Barb's is everything you look for in a diner. It's local, small, and the food is straightforward. You have to get the mess platter, with everything mixed together. That's what the locals say! I got the Stateline platter - eggs, toast, bacon or sausage and home fries. It's about $5. Somehow everyone knows everyone at this diner, and if you don't know them yet, you will by the end of the meal. You should definitely go for breakfast or if you're just passing through town - it's worth it! read more

Very nice little old time diner with delicious home made food. First time there we only had the hamburgers and waffle fries and they did NOT disappoint. Great tasting burger and fries made exactly as we asked. Waitress was very friend and efficient. They had many specials including stuffed cabbage which I cannot wait to try. This is what a greasy spoon diner is supposed to be. Friendly staff, good food, constant coffee refills and it looks like a strong wind could blow the place down. While the food is good, it's nothing to write home about. What made my experience so enjoyable was the people. These places tend to have a base of regular customers that they cater to, often at other/new customers expense. Not this place. Even those regulars give you a "good morning" and seemed genuinely happy to see you. Not sure what all the rave is about. It's just ok. Place looks like a dump on the outside (which sometimes is an indication the food is awesome). The inside is a little dirty and worn. No one greets you when you enter and we stood at the doorway until one of the patrons told us to seat ourselves. The employees were behind the counter and saw us. They weren't busy so I'm not sure why they didn't say anything. As soon as we sat down one of them came to our table to take drink orders. When she came back she told us the specials and asked if we were ready to order. We knew we wanted soup (navy bean on special) but not sure about what else, so she said she'd get the soup order in. She then sat at a table with her back to us. We were ready to order and had to motion to the other employee so she could tell our waitress. I ordered a BLT on toasted white and my husband ordered a Rueben with onion petals (not rings- ). Petals apparently are onions cut in half. Meanwhile the guy behind us got his food, which was a breakfast platter and I saw his toast was so burnt it was black. He was a regular so maybe he likes it that way, but I was a little worried my toast would come out these e way. The soup was gross. It was a broth filled with fatty ham chunks. And that's what it tasted like. It was a nice flavor but not one associated with a navy bean. I saw maybe three beans. Thinking I was getting a spoonful of beans, I almost gagged when I realized I'd swallowed a mouthful of little pieces of fat that had fallen off the ham. The sandwiches were just okay. My toast was done perfectly and the tomatoes and lettuce were fresh. Nice amount of bacon. But there wasn't anything wowing about it. The Reuben was mostly sauerkraut, and the corned beef was a strange reddish pink color. My husband said it was just ok, and he only are half. The onion petals were different. Not sure how else to describe them. The batter was good, but there was a ton of pieces that were just batter. All the pieces were about an inch long. But they were good, so I do recommend them. Our waitress ended up being friendly, and we joked with the other employee also. There was just two other tables so it was easy to converse with them. The 3 Stars is because the food was average. Would I eat there again? Maybe. There aren't many places to eat and we were traveling, so we wanted a quick stop. But I definitely would forego the navy bean soup. read more

Stateline is exactly what a diner should be - affordable, friendly & tasty. I have many good memories from coming here with my friends from college! It's a great little place with pretty good food. The waitresses are super friendly, attentive and always come bearing more coffee. I usually get a hamburger and a milkshake but everyone I know loves their breakfast foods, especially the Stateline Mess. They always have a lot of special dishes and apps that are listed over the breakfast bar area. I haven't ever had room left for dessert but the cakes and pies look delicious. This is my favorite place for lunch and breakfast whenever I'm in my hometown of WEIRTON, WV. Whether it's pancakes, eggs, home fried, or a cheeseburger, it's the best in town and for a price that you can't beat. I'd highly recommend trying this place if you've never been. read more

The only positive thing I can say is they got my order right. I've had Hospital food that was better. The place stays busy but I cannot understand why?!?! Really BLAND food. In my honest opinion the hamburger patty used in my sandwich was overcooked, dried out, and tough to chew. Most likely started out as a frozen preformed hamburger pattie. Will always ask from now on if hamburger is frozen or made from freshly ground chuck and I will request it to be cooked to no more than medium doneness. Advised waitress to let cook know not to overcook the burger next time and she said ok. Chocolate peanut butter pie was slightly dry. Coffee and sodas were great! Service was more than could be expected. Diner atmosphere was perfect. Restaurant was clean and tidy! Bathroom was also clean and tidy! No cigarette smoking is definitely a plus! Regular customers were noticed ordering and enjoying the dinner specials. Food priced well. Will give a second chance in the near future! Might just stick to ordering breakfast! read more

For a really decent price I was served a huge plate of omelet and home fries mixed together. It was called the something or other mash and it was amazing. Plus it came with delicious biscuits. The place is a diner so don't expect soy milk or raw sugar, but expect good service, liberal refills of your coffee, and three different kinds of jelly. All the waitresses were way to friendly for a Saturday morning and if I were in the area I'd go out of the way for a second stop here. Note: The nonsmoking section is in the back and seemed dimly lit. We sat in the smoking section in front next to a window. It was bright, cheery, and not really smokey at all. I love going to the stateline restaurant for all meals, whether its breakfast lunch or dinner, I always have a great meal. My friend and I always go on bike rides and we stop in to eat. This restaurant used to be the best in area for home cooked meals. It's been several months since we ate here. The food was a big disappointment. Ordered an Italian hoagie.
