Loved the people, loved the food, loved the un-fancy "we've been here forever" vibe and talking with the regulars. I had a *delicious* fresh spinach, mushroom, and cheese omelette and the home fries and talked to the owner/cook Diane the whole time. Two days later when I lost power at home, my leftover Peedees goodies were what I saved from the fridge.

This a great place with classic american breakfast food. I didn't get a chance to check out the bar or lunch/dinner food. Pee Dee's has community feel, good food, and you may be given the opportunity to get yourself a refill on the coffee. Prices are good usually about 7-10$

We started with the whipped ricotta and potatoes and both of those never miss. We also shared the house salad. Both sandwiches we had were delicious. Everything was so fresh and light. For some reason, I had a feeling that something was amiss regarding this dining experience. I made…read morethe reservation on RESY and we were set. We got to the restaurant, approached the podium, I expressed the reservation and was told that they did not have one for me. We were asked to sit in the penalty box until they were able to find a table. We were fortunate and were seated. Our server was great. Very personable, helpful with the menu, made recommendations, etc. We ordered cocktails, which were very good. We then placed our order for dinner. My spouse had the beans and greens which were found to be quite good. I had the house salad which was also very good. For an entree, Bo ordered CACIO E PEPE and I ordered, BUCATINI all'AMATRICIANA. This is where we started to descend into food limbo. The cacio e pepe was flavorless with as little pepper as possible. So few, in fact that you could accurately count them. The pasta was overcooked and mushy. My entree was another disappointment. In the description, it states: "Bucatini Pasta, Guanciale, San Marzano Tomatoes, Pecorino Romano" Now, can any of you, off the top of your heads, tell me what Guanciale is? Guanciale just happens to be, an Italian cured meat made from pork jowl or cheek. Its name comes from guancia, the Italian word for cheek. It is rubbed with salt, black pepper, and spices, then aged for several weeks, creating a rich meat with a high fat content that is prized for flavoring classic pasta sauces. In my entree they were small cubes, meat-like, and one side of each cube was burnt to a crips, solid black and real crunchy. It gave the whole dish a burnt taste. Not the best. For dessert, Bo ordered the Banana Sundae Cheesecake. I bet you thought it tasted like bananas. Nope. It tasted like cheesecake. I passed on dessert. My choice was determined by the quality of my entry. Atmosphere. There are some restaurants, these days, where you have to raise your voice to talk to one another. Here we had to literally scream but still not be able to hear one another. It's all too common now to forego a suspended tile ceiling and carpet on the floor, which absorbs the sound. This was absolutely the loudest dining establishment I was ever in. Looking around, it seemed that most people have bought into the notion that this is as good as it gets when it comes to dining ambiance. Look, I'm old school and this just didn't cut it for us. There certainly are a lot who love the restaurant and grade it accordingly. I'm just not one of them. Bon appetit!

This…read morewas highly unusual and before I go any further I want to give a huge shout out to Mary Ann at the front desk. We checked in on August 5th. It was a midweek reservation for three nights. We were assigned a room in chateau 2, room 2. Upon arriving in our room we were greeted with not only an overwhelming smell of smoke but also a musty unclean smell. The room was dank, the carpet was stained, the head of the bed was pushed up against some sort of cabinet on the wall. The light fixture in the bathroom had a bulb burnt out. There was a sofa that had seen significantly better days. There was also a cheap beat up box fan in the room. I'm not sure if perhaps they were trying to air it out at some point. To be completely transparent it was one of the worst rooms I've ever experienced in all my travels. It was gross. I didn't think to take photos I wish I had thought to but both my husband and I were aghast they would even offer such a room to anyone. We made our way back to the desk and apologetically asked for a better room in the lodge after explaining our concerns. (Though, we had no reason to apologize for being assigned such a poor room.) I don't want to be an ungrateful or entitled hotel guest. I know working in the service industry can be unbelievably trying at times. With all of the rooms at Oglebay Park Resort, there is no possible way Mary Ann could have known the state of that room. Mary Ann was so kind and understanding. She was able to adjust our room for us and issued us a card to receive complimentary breakfast the next morning. To be completely transparent, we have stayed at Oglebay in the past and were never so disappointed as we were this aspect of this visit. My husband has been visiting there since he was a child for yearly family vacations. We have been considering making our yearly family reunion with our 7 grown children and their families. It is my hope that Oglebay Park will refrain from using any room in such poor condition in the future. It is also my hope they will give Mary Ann a commendation for her excellent customer service.

So the larger your group is, the harder it will be for you to get a table. Parking can get tricky too. My own gaggle of friends has learned to carpool, and we accept that we won't always be seated directly together. Like any good diner, Dog House's menu has plenty of breakfast options, along with burgers and sandwiches. The menu is simple but solid, and the prices are reasonable. The French toast is my bestie's favorite, and I can confirm that their burgers and Belgian waffle are also quite good. Most recently I ordered the Chicken & Waffles; it was tasty, but I admittedly wish it came with more syrup. Also wouldn't have been upset if it came with one more tender since they were on the smaller side. The staff are very nice and they clearly work as quickly as possible. Of course, their speed is always dependent on how busy the diner is overall. I'll echo other reviewers saying that if you go in expecting to eat at a small town diner, you won't be disappointed. And my recommendation is to order a breakfast item or a burger to get the whole small town diner experience!
