What an incredible experience! Easily the highlight of my trip to Barcelona. I booked the Spanish cooking class and tour of La Boqueria. Lalo was an extremely knowledgeable, warm, and funny chef and guide. Other than having a great time and eating delicious, I picked up practical knowledge that I can apply in my own kitchen (not to mention you get to keep the recipes and instructions to impress your friends and family back home). I am also a vegetarian and Lalo and staff had no problem adapting the recipe to my diet (aka I got a whole paella pan to myself). If tours weren't all booked up, I'd do it again before I leave! read more

Taking a cooking class from Chef Stefano at Barcelona Cooking was one of the best experiences in my life. He really taught us the importance of having the right ingredients such as the spices, the freshness of the produce and seafood. Wow -- awesome experience! Excellent time, food, and instructor/chef. We took a trip to the local market (La Boqueria) and did some browsing, buying, and tasting. Afterwards we went back to the kitchen and got to work making several Catalunyan delights. If you have a few hours in Barcelona I would whole-heartedly recommend this -- it's a MUST-DO! She knew her way around La Boqueria and made what could have been an overwhelming place feel very accessible. Back at the kitchen, we made so much great food. Wow. This place. Wow. It was possibly the highlight of our Spain vacation !! Best ever. Brought our daughter, our son and his fiance, and a couple of friends as well!! We had Ross, (as in Friends!!) as our chef. She was amazing. First, all food was waiting for us to prepare!! They buy everything from a farmers market. We all had our specific jobs.... we sliced, diced, chopped, de-veined shrimp, cleaned the mussels and clams, all the prep for the amazing meal ahead. We took the Traditional Spanish cooking class which allowed us to prepare and eat the Spanish Tortilla, Gazpacho, Bread w/tomato, creme brulee, but also, of course, seafood paella. It was the BEST, so much fun, the wine was poured AFTER the knives were out of our hands!! (yes, we noticed that!!)..(smart move!). I can't say enough about this class. We have already referred others who are going soon. It's a must do if you're traveling to Barcelona. IT'S A MUST DO !! This was a great way to learn about the local cuisine. The class, which is 65 euros per person, commences around 6:00pm and goes until about 9:00pm. You not will only learn how to cook some of the local fare, but you will also get the chance to sample some of the local wines. Some of the dishes we learned to make included Tortilla Espanola, Pan Con Tomate (which was so easy to make and yet so good), and a paella. Nonetheless, a great dinner option and a wonderful way to spend the evening. read more

I was disappointed with the "Spanish Cooking Class" offered by Barcelona Cooking (mid-October).. The instructor/chef was aloof and uninterested in student input. I pointed out that a few of the mussels/clams purchased at the market were dead. (You don't have to be a 3-star chef to know a dead mussel -- they are partly open, don't close, and don't open when cooked.) He sniffed that he knew shellfish. When the paella was done, he served me last and gave me a dead mussel. The group contained a range of nationalities, and the class was conducted in English as promised. However, one participant spoke good Spanish and the instructor/chef spent at least half an hour talking to her in Spanish. He gave restaurant suggestions and other travel tips (I believe), leaving the rest of us with limited Spanish to twiddle our thumbs. read more

We spent the beginning of the class with the Chef exploring La Boqueria Market where he taught us how to pick the ingredients for the recipe. Then, we went back to school to prepare the recipes. We recently experienced the Barcelona Cooking class and words can't describe what a wonderful experience it was -- even for our 4-year-old son! It started with a tour of the Bocaria Market, which was eye-opening and informative (and quite a beautiful site). Back at the sleek, clean kitchen we prepared a 4 course meal, which Chef Candido managed to include my son in every step of the preparations. At the end, we drank wine and ate our delicious creations and i couldn't think of a better way to spend 4 hours of our day (because we were late and the chef was so accommodating to our lateness, the class actually lasted 5 hours). The next morning our son awoke to exclaim, "i loved cooking class!". Definitely a testament to both the experience and the quality of the food. We would definitely recommend and also will be returning at some point during our month stay here in Barcelona. read more

My husband loves to cook so this was a surprise for him while we were visiting Barcelona for our wedding anniversary; I must confess I've never taken a cooking class in my life, but I decided to also attend--WHAT A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE! Chef Lalo was wonderful, making the class interesting for experienced cooks, while giving a novice like me great tips. He took us to the La Boqueria market first, showing us how to pick fresh fish (bright eyes and red gills), what to look for when choosing spices, and more. Then we were back in the kitchen, preparing the most delicious multi-course gourmet meal that we experienced while traveling in Spain! We learned how to properly cook mussels, how to make the Spanish version of America's "surf + turf", how to make Catalonia's famous flat bread and how to make the most exquisite dessert...then we were able to feast! Oh, and did I mention you get to enjoy cava, red and white wine throughout the class? Chef Lalo made this day an unforgettable experience and was the highlight of our trip! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Kindra. We prepped Catalon Crema, Paella, omelette and a Catalon Crema brûlée. We wanted to learn to prepare and enjoy SS traditional Catalon dishes and enjoy them with local wine. The school has a relationship with a local winery and their white and Rioja matched up and supported the food well. We enjoyed working with our new friend Claire from New Zelank. Kindra was our chef for the evening and she was a gem! She gave us great tips and I learned a few tricks to bring into my kitchen. The food seemed so authentic and had great, fresh flavors! I loved being able to make the food and then enjoy it. The wine was great and the food!-Paella, butternut soup, grilled onions and romesco, and a wonderful creme de catalan that we got to torch ourselves! My husband and I stumbled upon the Barcelona Cooking class while reading the LA Times a few months before our trip. I thought it sounded like fun - something different for the two of us. We signed up for the ,Saturday night Tapas menu. Emma is the Director, and she is warm and delightful and determined to makre the experience perfect. She is immediately responsive should there be any questions. The kitchen is perfectly located on Las Ramblas. It is a lovey space that is friendly and happy. Our charming and talented chef and instructor was Lluis, pronounced "You is." We made 5 DELICiOUS tapas and learned so many technique tips. The dessert was wonderful and surprising - individual coconut cakes with fresh mint syrup (we made from mint leaves) topped with vanilla gelato, strawberry reduction and topped with a shake of fresh pepper and a drizzle of olive oil which somehow brought out all of the flavors perfectly! We enjoyed good wine and good conversation with two young women from Australia while LLuis shared his philosophy about life. Perfect evening and one that cemented our enjoyment of Barcelona! One of our friends that recently visited Barcelona recommended Barcelona Cooking and we are so glad that she did! Barcelona was at the end of our two week trip to Spain and this was such a fun and special way to end our trip. We are not expert cooks by any stretch of the imagination, but our Chef Lluis made us feel at home in the kitchen. Not only did he have informative cooking tips that he shared along the way, but he shared a wealth of interesting stories and experiences that made the night so much fun! We really felt like we had a new friend by the end of the night. And did I mention the food was AMAZING? With Lluis' help our dishes turned out better than I ever could have imagined! It may have been our best meal in Barcelona. I usually don't like cold soups, but the melon soup that we made was out of this world and the healthy portion of iberico ham served on the side was divine. Lluis showed us how to make what he promised was the "best ever" Spanish omelette (which I had already fallen in love with over our two weeks in Spain) and he was right, it was the best ever! The Paella was delicious and fun to make (did you know that paella isn't suppose to be yellow - watch out for the tourist traps!) and we finished with a Catalunya Cream that I can only describe as an improved version of crème brulee (and I never thought crème brulee need to be improved upon). The wine was flowing throughout the entire class as well. The food was delicious and Lluis was so entertaining, I would highly recommend this this class to anyone visiting Barcelona. read more

My husband and I absolutely loved our Spanish cooking class at Barcelona Cooking. The location was perfect - very close to the metro station right on La Rambla and just steps away from La Boqueria, the famous outdoor market. Our instructor had a great personality and taught us so much about the market and the fruits, vegetables, meats and fish unique to Catalan. You must definitely take the option of the market tour - it was one of the most enjoyable parts of our day. The kitchen cooking area was bright, cheerful and professional, and the open windows overlook the busy La Rambla. At first, my husband was not sold on our spending 4 hours cooking, but once we got started, he was hooked. We drank wonderful wine and nibbled on cava soaked olives while we chopped and cooked. The chef/instructor seemed to really enjoy his task of teaching us, and he kept us laughing and asking questions the whole time. And he kept filling our wine glasses to make sure we were having a wonderful time. An amazing experience of Barcelona we will remember forever. read more
