There is truly no place like Barfield! I began my dance career there when I was nine years old. Not only did they give me a lifelong love for dance but they encouraged me to pursue dance as a career path. The women that own, direct, and teach there work so hard to create opportunities for their dancers to learn and shine in a safe and healthy environment. Dancers there are not just another student but a member of the dance family. I formed many lasting friendships at Barfield and I truly would not be the person I am today without the guidance and support from the staff there! After teaching in FL for a few years I was ecstatic to be able to come back and rejoin them as a fellow staff member. As a parent of two daughters who danced there for 16 years each, I have had a lot of experience with BSD. Both my daughters were on the competition team for many years. When they were little, BSD was a warm, welcoming, nurturing home away from home for them. They learned and grew as dancers. When my oldest joined the competition team that had just been formed, I was able to compare and contrast what they were learning with other studios. This is when I realized that the quality of instruction was just barely par. They wanted to stay because they had deep relationships with the other dancers. Fair enough. Things changed after my oldest left for college, and my youngest was one of the most senior dancers. Although my oldest had found proof that the director had flat out stolen competition choreography and presented it as her own, the other parents opted not to speak to her about it. This was the start of the owner and directors revealing themselves. We were repeatedly overcharged, and when we requested itemized invoices, they did not even add up. One of the last statements had overcharged us $1500. My youngest became critical of the director and lack of professionalism. Likewise, she found that she could not trust her because she would tell lies to make up for her shortcomings. Weekly, my daughter would come home from the studio crying because of her experience at dance. Trying to talk with them yeilded no relief. The injury that really damaged our relationship with the family and the owners / director is when they secretly inlisted the teen and junior dancers in a local competition and intentionally left out the senior dancers. When confronted with this, they lied and denied that it was a secret, although none of the other senior dancers knew about it until it was over. Worse, they attempted to put the blame on the senior dancers. All was downhill from there. Some of the best and most dedicated dancers left. But my daughter opted to stick it out because the end of the season was nearing. She danced in the recital, but only a few weeks before she was to compete in the nationals, they cut her and another dancer who they deemed were troublemakers I suppose because they complained about being mistreated over and over again. They cut her from the team by email and would not accept a phone call or a meeting. Our family had been with that school for nearly 20 years, but they never even would show us enough respect to have a conversation about it. I even designed their new studio for them and never sent them an invoice. We were dedicated parents and supporters of that school. Even though that was months ago, my daughter still cries when she looks at her old dance bag. "They loved me. Why did they treat me so badly? Why won't they even talk to me? I dont understand. They taught us to be strong, independent women, and to stand up for ourselves and each other, but when we did they kicked me off the team without even a goodbye or an explaination" is what she just said to me through tears. As a father, this breaks my heart. Not because they mistreated, misguided, misled, and treated my daughter so poorly, but because they also crushed her spirit. If you send your daughter there, dont be fooled by the chandeliers and the sweet smiles. Those women will stab you and your child in the back. read more

My daughter really enjoyed taking dance here. The location and studio is beautiful. The staff is always reachable, approachable, and super friendly. The recital was spectacular and wasn't long (lasting most of the day) like other studios. Great place for dance lessons! read more

First off, this place is GORGEOUS!!! Ok, now on to the review..all of the instructors and the owner have been extremely understanding, nice, and welcoming! Our daughter has only been going here a month but has fallen in love (we recently moved cross country and she really missed her old dance teacher and studio). Our only complaint is the cost is a bit high for costumes. But they are professional and a cut above the other places around that we researched. We love that they are encouraging and uplifting in their choice of songs and routines! We can't wait to see the end of the year recital! We also wish they would do a Christmas performance of some sort. Overall though we are VERY happy with them! read more

Well as I indicated to the school's director, I'm disappointed in their customer service. I have to assume that Lizzy was having a bad week because who dismisses a customer for simply asking for information on the cost of the dance classes at their studio? Please note, that this information was not readily available on the school's website from what I could see at the time. I sent an email to the studio letting them know that my daughter is interested in enrolling in ballet and asked if they could let me know the costs. I received an email back simply saying to register online...no response to my request to know the prices. I responded back and said that I can't seem to find the prices on their website and asked if someone could either send it to me via email or point me to where I can find it on their site. I didn't hear anything back. I understand that some businesses don't post prices on their website because they don't want to let their competition know their rates. So I gave them that benefit of the doubt. I went ahead and registered my daughter in good faith because I have other kids that danced with the school over 5 years ago which gave me somewhat of a ballpark idea of what the expenses could amount to. Within the registration process, I mentioned my disappointment in their customer service since I never got a response on my question on the prices. Maybe that bothered the director because to my surprise and dismay, I received an email from her saying that she's sorry for my disappointment and wished me luck finding a more suitable studio. How petty of Lizzy to reject my daughter's registration because I asked about prices and expressed disappointment with the school's lack of response in providing that information after being asked multiple times. I call that constructive feedback. I wasn't rude about it at all. I still proceeded with the registration so obviously it wasn't that big of a deal. I saw it as an opportunity for the studio to correct the issue and provide the information. To say that I was stunned by the school's response is an understatement. What parent wouldn't want to know pricing information before paying a registration fee? Whoever is reading this is probably saying oh there must be some history there. I assure you, there is not. I'm almost certain that they don't remember my family because it was years ago that we had kids in their program. We obviously thought high enough of the school to return with our youngest even though there are other studios in the area to choose from that are probably less expensive (might I add). We considered Barfield first because we had history with them. We had no issues in the past to make them not want to do business with us in the future (no confrontations and no financial issues). This is a sincere review on a school that seems to have fallen off the wagon with their people skills (maybe it's due to the pandemic). If you're looking for a warm, friendly, and inviting atmosphere, look elsewhere, because clearly you won't find it here. To turn away a returning customer who had no issues with you in the past, and is trying to give you more business is a slap in the face. I can't even put my mind around this experience. This studio is the absolute best! I danced at Barfield School of Dance for nine years and could not have had a better experience. The teachers and Studio owner are wonderful and have truly helped shape me into the young woman I am today. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DANCE FACILITY TO ANYONE! I had an issue with the recital my daughter was in on May 28th. First, at the recital my family was asked if "one of your(our) people" could sit on the steps during a performance (which happened to be the same performance my daughter was in) so another parent could see her child perform. Mind you there were seats available on the first and second row. The lady went to get the director and told her my mother in law was being confrontational. I know this because I was back stage with the director when the other parent was speaking with her. They walk out and I proceed not knowing who the parent was speaking about. I walk into My mother in law pointing out the other available seats politely to the director of the recital. Some how it was relayed to the manager (Lizzie) that my mother in law acted "ethnic." Secondly, the recital "program" was paper! It was never specified that the program would be paper. I had several company's and individuals pay for ads in this program and were not satisfied with the amount of money the ads cost for such poor publishing. It looked like it was made on Microsoft the day of the recital. I was told by the manager today, whom it took almost two weeks to get in touch with after the recital, that the ads I sent in were "a mess and had to be fixed and no money would be refunded" Which was never brought to my attention before publishing the program. Proceeding to discuss my thoughts about the program and asking for the money back, I was insulted, undermined and disrespected by Lizzie, the manager of the facility. After about twenty minutes of listening to her tell me irrelevant information,cutting me off, and unwilling to listen to my concern to find a resolution that would work for both parties, I finally told her my daughter would not be returning to the facility. She then told me my daughter couldn't return if she wanted to because she's "ethnic" and part of the "ethnic behavior" that was supposedly shown at the recital. If you have kids that are biracial, from a different culture, or apparently anything but white, this facility is not for you. The only reason this place has one star from me is because it wouldn't let me post my review with out it! read more
