I can't talk about Smyrna's Malco Cinema without making one thing crystal clear from the very get... I have lovvvedddd, loved, loved, loved Malco's exterior esthetic from the moment I laid eyes on it! At night, the entire front-facing portion of the building is illuminated by what I refer to as multi-colored "tube lighting" (highly resembles that popular wall lighting you see a lot of in 50's-styled diners ‍). Anywho, the theater has been very well maintained in the 6-7+ years it's been open... always quite clean. Also, they recently installed some awesome seat upgrades. The upgrade includes full leather ('pleather') seating along with footrests that electronically extend/retract to each patron's liking! Love going to see movies here. read more

I normally don't leave negative reviews, but I felt this experience deserved to be addressed. My family and I came to see Toy Story, and before the movie even started, we noticed the auditorium had not been properly cleaned from the previous showing. There was popcorn and trash scattered throughout the floor, and several seats still had trash left in them from previous guests. As we entered the auditorium, the overall appearance was disappointing and unsanitary. What made the situation more frustrating was that I immediately notified an employee before our movie started. He acknowledged my concern and appeared to communicate it over a radio/talkie. Assuming someone would come address the issue before the previews ended, I returned to my seat. Unfortunately, no one ever came to clean the auditorium. For the price families pay for movie tickets, concessions, and the overall experience, basic cleanliness should be expected. I understand theaters can get busy, especially during popular movie releases, but an auditorium should be cleaned THOROUGHLY and prepared between showings. Guests should not have to sit among someone else's trash and spilled popcorn. The movie itself was enjoyable, but the condition of the theater took away from the experience. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves cleaning procedures between showings so future guests can enjoy a cleaner and more welcoming environment. read more

Went last evening to the 715 pm showing if Oppenheimer. The woman at the ticket booth was fine, the theater was clean and decorated pretty for Christmas, the chairs were cushiony and reclined; big plus. I only am reading now that they have a heat mode. I wish I had known that when there! They clearly didn't have the heat turned on in the theater (#2) and it was freezing!! I had on a thick sweater, jeans, boots, a down winter coat, and still so uncomfortably cold that it made it difficult to enjoy the movie. We didn't dare try and drink a cold soda. I guess they decided to skip the heat because there were only 4 people total there? It actually felt like they were blasting AC very cold. My friend commented that his nose felt as cold as ice. When we walked out of the theater after the movie, it was significantly warmer in the hall and lobby. Paying customers should be able to assume they're going to be in a heated theater when it's in the 30's outside, even if there are only a handful of them. Also the volume of the movie was incredibly loud. I mean deafening loud! And that must've been the case in other movies also because we could hear and even feel rumbling from another theater. Theater was fine enough. But after spending 30 dollars for 1 popcorn and 2 slurpees we needed to get a kids cup of water for our one and a half year old and the fact they got it from the back sink( I watched) and would not give it to me till I paid 85 cents in beyond unacceptable and inconsiderate. I would like to blame it on the boy serving us Cody but the fact 5 other 15 year olds that worked there were standing around till I paid I guess it's company policy to pay for SINK water for a BABY? That is baffling to deny a toddler ( sink water) and until this is changed we can not attend this theater again. Stop charging baby's water especially from the sink. read more

I made two visits here after work last week. The ticket person was friendly and the employees at the concession stand even more so, trying to strike up conversation. Some of the main things that are important about the movie theater experience are: picture quality, sound quality, and cleanliness. Digital projection was clear and no issues with the video or sound. One of the theaters had some gum along the edge of the theater seat but overall the facility was clean and had no sticky floors. read more

Unfortunately, this theatre consistently has issues with their closed captioning devices. This last visit we had, none of their devices were functioning and even though they were aware they weren't working... there was no notice online. In fact, not only does it show that they have closed captioning online, they also had signs on the door and movie signs showing that they provided closed captioning. Then, the management only offered us movie passes instead of a full refund. We wouldn't have any use of the passes when they don't provide the closed captioning. Until they're held accountable, I'm concerned they'll continue to treat hearing impaired customers this way., read more

Solid theater. Decent prices especially considering the $11-12 "matinee" pricing from other places. I don't think they have any screens with recliner seats or reserved seating. But the seats are pretty comfortable and the stadium seating allows for minimal blockage from others even when they get up in the middle of the movie. I've recently seen movies in auditoriums 2 and 8. 2 was nice and clean, no smells. 8 was a bit smelly but only noticeable compared to 2. Parking is plentiful and the ticket counter staff is courteous. Though one staff member was particularly annoyed at having to wait until the end of the credits to begin cleaning. Uh... it's a Marvel movie. We'd be fools not to wait until the end of the credits. Oh and don't think I didn't notice she came in to watch the last half of the movie... ;) read more

This is my favorite theater. The recliners are great. Recliners are wider than AMC and you have your own armrests, unlike the shared armrests at AMC. Don't get me wrong I like AMC as well but Malco is my favorite. It's not super crowded and parking is easy. I've been there many times and it's always been great. read more

It has been awhile since I been to this movie theater. It was very clean, staff was helpful and professional. I had only one problem. When I saw the latest Star Wars movie. The volume was turned up so high, it shook my seat in the theater. I didn't mind it as first, but after awhile it was hurting my ears. I couldn't really enjoy the movie much because how loud it was. I normally don't leave bad reviews but the staff has to consider they have patrons who pay to enjoy a movie, not leave with their ears ringing. read more

The thing that bothers me the most about movie theaters is when they try to monetize water. Telling me I can't bring a water bottle into a movie theater is absurd, and is certainly not something that is practiced where I am from. To tell me I can buy way water when I told them I also intended to buy popcorn in addition to the expensive movie ticket I purchased is downright insulting. So let's do the math Malco management. 1 ticket- $10.50 1 popcorn- $5.50 or whatever crazy expensive price you charge for popcorn $15.50 in profit for your company. Instead? $0.00. Because I can't bring my water. Not soda, not alcoholic beverage, but water. Does that come across as a sound business decision? The theater itself was small...like...tiny. Maybe it was just the one we were in, as we saw a not so popular film. But, that said, the seats were still comfortable, try leaned back, and the arm rests moved up. The rest of the facilities was neat! There's a water fountain in the middle of he theater, a cafe off to one side, and an arcade off to the other. I kind of loved the old time small town vibe that this had, while still keeping up on everything and keeping it's character. It didn't feel run down, dirty, or anything like that. Went for a showing of Bruno. The aspect ratio of the film was wrong and required a brief conversation with the management to get resolved. The seats are quite comfortable, but tend to rock back very far, this may frustrated those who want a bit more back support. The theater itself is well maintained. Not a bad theater to catch a movie. Would like to see some upgrades to include reclining seats to make things a little more comfortable. Staff is mostly young adults, but all so far have been courteous and friendly. The snack bar isn't bad. The popcorn had a decent flavor once you add a pack of salt and some liquid butter. I live within a mile from Roxy. Yesterday, my best friend, Toni, and I went to see the much anticipated movie "IT". a bit of backstory: I have a dibilating disorder called Lipedema (increased weight gain, swelling, pain and weakness all from the waist down - are just a few of the symptoms). I have been fighting for many years to stay out of a wheelchair, but my condition progressing further each day. With my disorder, I can fall with no notice. Being 6 feet tall makes the falls much harder and brutal - the floor is a long way and taking that bump is devastating to my body. -- IT has always been my favorite horror novel. I read it at eight years old, saw the mini-series when it aired at 10. Since March I have had a countdown clock on my phone. And spent my nights discussing parts of the book we'd like to see in the movie, with strangers from the internet. -- Toni dropped me off at the door, while she went to park. I walked in, carrying my phone, trying to get my lock screen off.. I made a random joke to the teller, 'I had the confirmation, but of course - it's not working now...!' After a few minutes, Toni and I were sitting at the fountain taking a celebratory selfie. I, also, took an image of the tickets in my hand - "I've waited 27 years for this moment!" We stood up, walking a few steps, looking at the concession stand. As I stood there...suddenly it hit. Right knee buckle. Right ankle turn. I was falling. I grabbed Toni's 5'4" framed body in a panic...'Oh my God! Oh my God!' I yelled, shaking all over. She grabbed my arm, scared 'what what?!?!'. 'I'm falling! My legs my legs!' I screamed, tensing up all the leg muscles I could. She pulled my left arm over as quickly as she could, sitting me down at the fountain. The tears ran down my face as I became aware that I wasn't breathing. Toni pulled my face to look at her, "are you okay?!!! My God!" I shook my head, finally breathing through my nose & wiping my tears nervously with my hands. 'I'm not...i can't...my legs..' was all I could mumble. In my mind, the distance to the auditorium felt like a 100 mile hike. All of the excitement to see the movie was disappearing fast. I attempted to stand again. Only to fall back down. Legs crumbling. I let out a whimper as I sat on the cold concrete around the fountain. Looking around, I saw so many happy people walking around - I couldn't help but feel jealous. All I wanted was for my legs to carry me a few feet. The easiest thing in the world to most. I saw two employees come out of the auditorium after cleaning. A light bulb flashed over my head. I looked at Toni, who's concern could be seen, and said "will you go ask that guy if he can help me?" pointing to one of the guys with brooms. He was around 6'4 and had some muscle. She came back with him, Cody, and another guy who was a bit shorter, Jacob. "Please don't drop me. Ive been waiting my whole life for this." Cody smiled, reassuring me "we aren't going to drop you." As they walked me past the popcorn do-it-yourself station, I was shaking all over. My heart was racing. Suddenly, right leg buckles again. I yell in pain! Jacob, thinking fast says 'someone get an office chair for her!' They stand with me, all of my weight on Cody, as their manager Tara arrives with the chair. All three walked me into the auditorium, Toni in tow - carrying my wallet and a drink. As they situated me at the front row I say to Cody through my tears, "I might need you guys again." he smiles "if you don't see me, tell them - I'll get you." I sat crying and shaking. Not only from my fear but embarrassed. I called my parents and asked if they could bring my wheelchair when the movie was over. They said 'yes', then Toni attempted to distract me, 'We ARE watching this movie, Tamela!" --- When the movie ended, Cody and Jacob were already standing near the seats waiting to help. I called my parents who had just left with my chair. About 10 minutes later, my parents arrived and my "Roxy Team" of Cody, Jacob and Tara were able to move me from the computer chair (Jacob laughed 'its my chair now!' Tara yelled out his first and middle name in scolding play - all attempting to ease my mind) to the wheelchair. They wheeled me out and made me feel a lot better about the situation. -- I'm well aware that this is a long post. But, I had to make it long to help you understand how much it meant to me. These three employees went above and waay beyond in their assistance. I cannot commend them enough. You do not find many angels on earth, that help you in any way possible. I found three. Thank you, Tara, Cody and Jacob. Any words I might have would not be anywhere NEAR enough to express my undying gratitude. read more

This is by far the nicest movie theater in Rutherford County. The last few movies I've seen have been here, and I live 5 minutes from the Carmike Wynnsong 16! The facility is always clean and has nice things you just don't see elsewhere like a fountain in the lobby. This theater is a few years old now, but it is maintained so well that you would think it is brand new. They have a nice concession stand, the prices aren't too outrageous (as movie prices go) and the traffic is never very bad getting in and out due to the great location. read more

Prices are a bit steep for an older theatre, at $11/ticket. Snacks are the usual over priced goods you would be used to at a theatre. Seats are pretty comfortable, stadium seating offers a pretty great view of the screen. read more

I try to come to this theatre every time there's a movie to watch because it is always clean, parking is good, and whenever there is a small issue (such as the lights not going out when the previews begin) they resolve it immediately! Wonderful movie theatre!! read more

I usually love going to this movie theater but tonight I had a HORRIBLE experience. My child got unexpectedly sick in the middle of the movie. Fortunately we made it to the ladies room on time her aim was good. As we were leaving I had my oldest daughter ask the girl behind the snack counter if we could possibly have a popcorn bucket in case my youngest got sick again. The girls pulls out a flimsy bag that is closed only on two sides. I explained I needed a bucket--not a piece of paper. I even reinstated what I needed it for. (Although it was rather obvious). She charged me 7.50 for an empty paper bucket! According to the manager (who saw me leaving and clearly saw I was SUPER PISSED) this is their policy. Really? Where's the compassion? I will never set foot in this place again. Wish I could give a ZERO star but I can't post the review unless I select a star rating. read more
