Bargain Box is the best thrift shop in the area. Excellent quality and prices at this fully volunteer driven store. The biggest selection of clothing is women's, although there is a small children and men's area. The shop is in a lovely former private home which also houses the offices of the Assistance League. There are plenty of housewares and decorative items and I often purchase greeting cards there for 75 cents each. The icing on the cake is that the Assistance League was the first nonprofit, non-sectarian, non partisan organization started in the western United States. The League's origin goes back to the great San Francisco Fire and Earthquake when Anne Banning, a Los Angeles society woman, and some of her friends, assisted victims of the disaster. Years later, in 1919, the first chapter of the league was formed and the work continues today. The money raised by the Assistance League goes right back into the local community and supports the arts for youth, among other things. You can drop your donations off during the hours the shop is open. read more

All the volunteers are so nice and friendly, it is always clean and all the merchandise is all in very nice order, I donate everything I can to them because I know the money goes to a good cause. We lived within walking distance of this little thrift shop and I can't believe that we didn't shop here more often! UGH!! Part of the problem though was their hours of operation. Each time we did shop here though, it was amazing the stuff that we bought. We mostly shopped for clothes which were of good quality and some of which were even name brands at a great price. Sometimes they had a sale on top of those great prices!! Occasionally they have special events so keep an eye out on those dates ( they have a flyer ) for example there was a day when we went where they had a lot of gently used prom dresses for sale. Such a bargain!! Besides clothes, they also sell shoes, toys, jewelry, dishes, purses, and many other household items. Small parking lot, but plenty of free street parking. I'm not very experienced in thrifting, so I decided to just go to this nearby thrift store. I found that most of the clothes they sell are more appealing to the older populatation (maybe 55+?). The prices were a bit more than I expected, but still reasonable (I don't think that they exceeded $15). However, on the bright side, there are two dressing rooms with mirrors and places to hang your clothes, and all the clothes looked clean. In addition, I found some brand names (such as Tommy Hilfiger!!!). There were other items other than clothes too. The store closes at 1, and I came at around 12:30, so make sure to come earlier so that you have more time to browse. I thought that the selection size was a bit small, but I haven't had much experience in thrifting so I can't really compare to other stores. Some of the other reviews on Yelp for the customer service are bad, but I think that the customer service was fine. Overall, it was a pretty good experience but it could've been better. read more

Hit and miss. We donate a lot of stuff here too. What they cant use they donate further. Found some unique miniature house items. i saw the comments about the staff but please remember these ladies are volunteers, and they are working not gossiping over you or on their phones like some paid workers at supermarkets. read more

This is one of my favorite thrift stores of all time. The ladies are volunteers so you most likely won't ever see the same one twice. But they are always friendly. The place is clean and uncluttered. They have a nice selection of vintage, new, and designer items. I come here often and always find something. They only have 2 fitting rooms and if you come on a busy day, you'll have to wait. SHOCKED at the RUDENESS and HORRIBLE customer service!!!!! I came here with my parents who were visiting from out of town. We had just walked in when a lady approached us and let us know they were closing in 10 minutes. I smiled and assured her we would shop quickly. Immediately another worker came over and expressed concern that we were there, and wanted to make sure we knew they were closing. Again I smiled and said we would shop fast, and mentioned that it was the first time I had been into the store. In about 4 minutes, I looked at three clothing racks. I found a couple pairs of pants I liked, and stepped into the fitting room to try them on. Loved them. I must've been in there about two minutes when they shut off the lights on that side of the store. Yes, you read that right. THEY SHUT OFF THE LIGHTS!!!!! So I'm standing there in the dark with my pants off, now worried about my elderly mother who walks with a cane and is legally blind. I peeked out of the curtains and saw that, thankfully, my mother was already up at the register at the front of the store where the lights were still on. I got dressed, came out, and walked up to the register. The lady rang up my pants and shoved them into a bag, not even folded. While she was running my credit card, I glanced at my iPhone. It was 4:02pm. So we had kept them an extra 2 minutes past closing time. I wanted to say something about as I am a business owner myself, and I would want to know if my clients are unhappy. But I think I was just so shocked at the behavior of these women that I was speechless. I read the other reviews and apparently the women are volunteers. I appreciate that, and understand and respect both the value of their time and the closing time of the store. I'm sure they had plans and wanted to leave on time. However, from the moment we walked into the store, it was obvious that they wanted nothing but for us to LEAVE, and they made it abundantly clear that we couldn't get out of there fast enough. That is truly poor customer service, and very tacky. And it is especially unexpected in a town like LaCanada where the clientele come in with money to spend, and an intent to support charitable efforts, even if we do love a bargain. I spent over $40 in 12 minutes. My hope is that this review will be read by someone in authority who cares about the reputation of the store and the customers who come in to support this worthy cause, and will help educate the workers on how to properly treat customers. read more

One of my favorite thrift stores to go to regularly. They have a good turnover of stuff. Prices are pretty cheap, however they do look up internet prices for certain items (like old books or vintage stuff) and will sell those a bit higher. The ladies are all volunteers and are very sweet, however because the clientele tends to also be older ladies the lines can be long and slow, but that's the price you pay. read more

Small shop that's open for a small window on most days. Stopped by recently and was pleasantly surprised. Scored a pair of high end vintage flats for $10.00-SCORE!!! Volunteers were sweet and helpful. Sign says Cash and credit card only-no debit. Debit cards with visa or MasterCard logos still seem to work. This shop will def stay on my list. read more

I rarely go to thrift stores, but this one always has quality items (even some vintage items) and good prices. The ladies there are volunteers and are helpful~despite the fact that there is a lot of business going on at all times as the business hours are so short (10-1). Nice little community thrift shop. :) One can find some real gems in here. It is small though. Don't expect a Salvation Army type shop. My family has donated sooo much stuff here over the years. This thrift store has great items and a good turnover. Their prices can be kinda steep, depending on the one who priced that day. In most thrift stores all pants of a certain kind have a fixed price but here the prices very widely. Sometimes it's exagerated. Most of the people working here are friendly but some ladies are really snooty and depreciative. I go to a lot of thrift stores and at this one, I always watch out: or for the price or for a bitchy lady ;-) read more
