Reading is popular worldwide but how it is viewed and practiced can depending on cultural value of towns to town's. La Cañada - Frintridge has a lotta of cute bookstores and they need to survive that pls check it out if you got time! Written history are generally more reliable than oral one from Thorah to Quran. My gal pal and I have a yearly tradition during the holidays that brings us to the city but we never come early enough to explore the surrounding neighborhood shops until today. We both squealed "bookstore" and immediately looked at what time they closed so we can stop by after dinner. Just a delightful, charming, slightly eccentric (in the best way) little local bookstore. A much more intimate and gentle shopping experiencing than schlepping to Vroman's and fighting for parking. The staff is always so friendly, they do excellent (and free!) gift wrapping, and they are happy to order anything that they don't have in stock. I try to support them whenever I can. read more

This bookstore is super well organized and has a great variety of books and also little knick-knacks and toys. You can roam around for hours in the bookshelves looking at all the different assortments. The aura of this shop is super cozy and warm. The shop is well maintained and very clean. Went in the other day to get some books for my Dad's birthday, had no idea what to get him but with the help of the cashier Annie, I got some great picks! She came over and asked if we needed help, my sister mentioned a popular astrophysicist she couldn't remember the name of, Annie immediately knew who she was referring to and pulled out some really great options written by him and recommended one by another astrophysicist, giving quick descriptions of each. She also showed me a few other items in case I was interested!! I ended up buying a couple books for myself as well! All her recommendations were intriguing, it was hard to choose! Read a review saying they had political pins here for sale. I didn't see any. But I did see books by Kristi noem, Liz Cheney and so on. So it's not a traditional countercultural bookstore. It's more to cater to the right wing people that live here. Lots of sci fi and fantasy too, along with military books. So I'm guessing they are a conservative bookstore catering to conservative people. read more

I was in the neighborhood so I decided to check out this bookstore. It is filled with everything a reader would want, including journals, jigsaw puzzles, candles, and magnets. It's not a large store, but they have a little bit of everything. I spent over an hour browsing and came away with some great finds. I love supporting independent bookstores! read more

NO!!! That's what my wife and I yelled last night when we made our annual pilgrimage to Flintridge Bookstore only to find out the place is closing down. So sad, but this is happening all around the city. Greedy landlords prefer their properties sit vacant for years rather than give the business owners a break on rent. Like I said, my wife and I loved to visit this quaint, wonderful establishment around Christmastime each year. We live in Westwood so we can't come often, but we make sure to buy a lot of stuff when we do. We like to sit in the lovely cafe for hours. And all the patrons seem to love the place too. It's a real destination for tutors and their students. I'm really sorry to see this place go away. It is a neighborhood gem. So many independent bookstores are sliding away into oblivion due to Amazon. I always use Amazon to research the books I want to buy, and then seek out an independent bookstore to actually make the purchase. I wish more people did that. read more

I initially went to Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse for a friendly lunch. Then, pick up some research material. They ran out of sandwiches like completely. So they're a popular place for coffee, tea, pastries and lunch. I love the place. Thought my friend would too. However, we had to go elsewhere. Friendly customer service everywhere around the store. When we returned, I ran around the store seeking..... And I found out a La Canada-Flintridge writer (Nicola Yoon) sold two of her novels into the Hollywood film scene. Interesting news indeed. I've gotta say, I was surprised by my experience here. Not once have I ventured into a small bookstore and felt unwelcome or like a burden. I came in looking for a specific new release, spent three minutes or so looking for it until I even saw an employee. I didn't get so much as a cursory glance from him. After exploring for a few minutes more, another employee ventured out and spent time gossiping loudly with him while venturing through the stacks, getting uncomfortably close to me multiple times - in the time of COVID. Unacceptable. I paid list price for the book and got the heck out of there. Next time, I'll go to Barnes & Noble. read more

After my third bad experience buying a book from Amazon (bought new, arrived used and damaged) I decided to buy it from my local bookstore. They didn't have it in stock, but they were able to order it for me, and at a lower price than I had been prepared to pay! Yes, it took longer than 2 days to arrive, but it arrived in excellent condition and I was able to support a local business. They also gift-wrapped it for me beautifully at no charge. Everyone in the store was following social distancing guidelines. I'll be buying my books here from now on. read more

Great quaint bookstore that carries a lot of cute children's gifts, trinkets, and a large selection of junior books. Not a whole lot of help from staff or much greeting, but didn't need it since the store is so small and have no problems locating items. Parking in the back or one hour street parking off to the side. Happy reading. read more

Coffee Shop Review ONLY. I mainly come here to study because there is a lot of seating compared to other coffee chains around here (cough Starbucks cough). Also, the prices are not as ridiculous either! I really enjoy the tea selection, so delicious. Only complaint is that one of the baristas isn't too friendly, haven't seen her crack a smile yet. I have worked at a coffee shop and usually baristas are eccentric and enthusiastic, not to mention happy! Overall, I will come here when I am in town ANYDAY over competing coffee chains. read more

I was early today, so I finally decided to check it out.. ordered mocha ice coffee, to my pleasant surprise it was like a frappe ..Wow! Seriously this is wayyyyy better than Starbucks! I was really underwhelmed by this place. I love bookstores, and coffee so I thought this would be the perfect melding of the two thereby making it my new happy place. But it wasn't. It felt more like a thruway RestStop than a quaint bookstore-coffeehouse. The book selection was blah, and there was a hodgepodge of gifts that I didn't really understand. The coffee was fine but no better than what you could get at a 7 Eleven. However, their children's book section seemed decent and well populated by families and giggling children so maybe I'm just the wrong demographic for this shop. I didn't have a terrible experience by any means, but I found this place very disappointing especially given the glowing reviews it has. It's like a hallmark store meets Barnes and Noble (one with a Starbucks), and if that's what I was looking for I would've gone to the Americana. read more

The local, large-ish bookstore in the area. Flintridge bookstore is awesome. It has a great coffee shop with beautiful espresso drinks including affogatos (vanilla ice cream with espresso on top) for less than $4. They are starting to carry more foodstuff like Italian meat and veggie sandwiches and salads, on top of the pastries and bagels. The bookstore has a pretty nice selection and is as well organized and clean as your larger variety chains. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They occasionally have 'for sale' tables in the middle with some good deals. The kids section is small but nice, and they have story time and kid activities on Saturdays and Thursdays (call to ask about it); there is a calendar as well as these are themed. I work from coffee shops with wifi so work from here regularly, there is plenty of space and a few of the tables have outlets. Support this shop, it's awesome! UPDATE: Still one of the best cafe's in the area, and I come here regularly with my daughter. There is a great kids section. They are starting to carry more games and board games, so although it's nothing like a game shop such as Emerald Knights or Game Empire, they are starting to have a better selection of stuff. They are carrying role-playing games (table top rpgs), including stocking all the new D&D 5th edition roll outs. Also, they have their own printing press, where local authors can come in and get their own books printed! read more

This is one of the last great small local bookstores left as many others have faded away. Great books, selection, and a very unique and wonderful children's book collection too! Everything is easy to find. Coffee is great and other pastries as well. The only reason this local bookshop didn't get a 3 star rating was because of the attitude you get from the teens working there. It's not blatant, just under the surface. A slow burn, a condescending look or the slow, bothered reaction you get back from just asking a simple question. My Grandmother would have simply told them to 'get off your high-horse and help me out down here, Missy. " Perhaps more customers would return and frequent this shop if the employees had some refresher training in good ,courteous customer service? Just a thought. read more

Looking for a place to get a good cup of coffee or espresso. We accidentally came here because we went to another coffee shop and they didn't have what we wanted. We used to like Starbucks but since they burn their beans it tastes bitter so it's rare we go there. We decided to go to Coffee Bean and there was a parade so we couldn't get through. Decided ask Siri for suggestions for a coffee place near by and this place came up. We didn't know what to expect. Looked like they were closing. We asked and were told they were closing in an hour. My husband had a cappuccino and I had an iced blended mocha. Let me tell you that we are coming back here. Forget Starbucks and Coffee Bean. This is our new favorite place. And the girl helping us, Quinn, was excellent. read more

The bookstore was well-stocked and organized. It has lots of stationery and gifts and such. But the service was non-existent. My husband and I walked in around noon today (a Sunday) and were the only people there. The young man behind the counter said not one word to us. I can't stand officious service, but an acknowledgment is expected. I got an extremely unwelcome feeling as if I were interrupting something. I hope it wasn't the owner I saw. Assuming it wasn't, staff need to be trained to be friendly. That's not a big ask. We won't be back. read more

SUPER RUDE!!!! I was sitting at a table with my average coffee and the place was empty when a lady who worked here kicked out a 12-13 year old girl sitting next to me trying to study geometry for not buying something! The girl had got a water glass and was quietly sitting when this employee told her the place tends to " get too busy" and the seats require that you buy something. The girl then asked if she could sit at an outside table and the employee repeated her speech about "paying guests"only outside too. I felt so bad I asked the girl if she wanted to join me since I'd already bought a coffee but she was shy and understandably embarrassed so she waited outside for someone to pick her up. There are literally 12 empty tables right now. This employee has ruined a seemingly average place by being so unnecessarily rude. The coffee is average and the wifi is slow, I will not be back. read more

Barnes and...who? I've gone to this bookstore twice in the last month or so. Both times the bookstore (which judging from the outside and the stereotypical, local mom and pop store name, isn't nearly on the same grand scale as a Borders or Barnes and Noble) had the books I was looking for! The first was "A Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde and the second was for the first and second book from the "A Song Of Ice and Fire" series called "Game of Thrones" and "Clash of Kings." The staff was extremely helpful when I called on the phone as well as in the store. Thank god for Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse for not only providing the same degree of variety (or very close!) and saving me a trip to Glendale or Pasadena. As a long-time resident of La Canada Flintridge, our family supports local businesses including yours. We have been a huge fan of your bookstore as it is convenient for us as we have two children who attends the local schools. As I was picking up a book for my daughter today, I noticed some little trinkets for sale near the cash registers that appears to be political in nature. I think it is appropriate for stores to carry or sell such items keeping in mind to remain neutral as to not offend and alienate some of its patrons. Although, your store has every right to choose a political side, it is not smart business to alienate your loyal patrons by being partial to one political party. We will not be back at your store and will make sure to share my experience with families and friends. -a very disappointed patron read more

I absolutely love to see independent book stores in today's Amazon and B&N era. Not to mention, the bookstore smell is great, especially when it's mixed with the smell of an in-house coffee shop! Flintridge bookstore is a great place with decent selection. They also have a small "gifts" section in the back that is stocked with random, awesome odds and ends! Easy parking: Private lot behind the building. Large drink under $5: Yes Friendly staff: Yes Indoor seating: Plenty to let you relax and read your new book. Outdoor seating: Some tables by the coffee shop exit. Decor: Minimal decorations; the books do all the talking.
