From the moment we entered, as Hispanics we felt as though we were being closely watched and followed throughout the store in a way that made us uncomfortable. We had no large bags or items with us--just a wallet--yet we were treated with a level of suspicion that did not seem warranted. At the same time, another customer (take a gander) in the store, who had a large backpack, which looked like it could fit an arsenal was able to shop freely without the same level of attention. The contrast in how we were treated was noticeable and concerning. Prior to visiting, I had already spoken with someone about purchasing a higher-priced item. However, due to the way we were treated during our visit, my husband and I decided not to move forward with the purchase. Instead, we chose to leave and spend our money elsewhere. We ended up going to a nearby business (Ss donuts) where we experienced welcoming and respectful service, which only highlighted the difference. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as no customer should feel uncomfortable or singled out while simply trying to shop.

HOW have I gone this long without reviewing Smarty's!?!?!…read more My daughter and I are Art's biggest fans. Every Thursday (which is when Art gets in his pallets of new inventory), she says to me "Happy Smarty's Day!" You just never know what you are going to find here. We have gotten the following items in the past year or two: a brand new Samsung dishwasher (a model that had only been on the market for five months, new in the box for over $700 off retail price!), a Ninja Creamy ice cream machine, Instant Pot lid that turns it into an air fryer, Dyson and Shark vacuum cleaners for hundreds off list price, deck boxes and hose reels for the backyard, a new microwave, an amazing array of plastic storage bins in all sizes for the garage/storage locker...and that's just off the top of my head! Going to Smarty's is our weekly treasure hunt. More than once, my daughter has bemoaned that she bought something elsewhere only to find it later at Smarty's for a fraction of the price. On the rare occasion that something we bought ended up damaged after we opened the box (which does happen from time to time, given the nature of the business of buying pallets of stuff from Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc.), Art has always made good and given us a full refund. I am almost loathe to tell people about this store because I want to keep these amazing, secret deals all to myself, but I also want Art to stay in business forever. Thanks, Art! You are why employees hate their job. Karen's at its finest. That "employee wearing wigs" has a name which I won't mention but she's amazing. She's run both locations like a pro and I've never seen her stop. I heard her one day talking to who I assume is a manager saying she was sick and was gonna lay down for her break/lunch. I would absolutely love to have her work in my department at my place of work. Kind, hard working, super sweet, and all of that while dealing with jerks like you two. Parking is plenty and this plaza is filled with worthy shops to get your shopping done. Inside, the store is organized and sectioned into relevant items, I would always make my way to the toys and knick-knacks. Sometimes, i would pick up a toy or two (like those Disney mystery blind box charms). One of my favorite things to buy are the dog toys, they change designs often and for $5, it comes with two squeaky toy that my pups love. I always look forward to see what design they currently have. Staff there are great. They are helpful and make the place nice. I had one time picked up a couple of items and had put the stuff temporarily on a random shelf to pick up a phone, i had walked away from the aisle for 2 minutes, realize that i had forgotten the stuff, went to find that the staff had already put them back to its original spot. Isles do not feel cramped when maneuvering with a cart. Parking lot/shopping center offers plenty of parking spaces. Prices are reasonable and affordable.
