Found out that despite all attempts to make process straight forward and easy, we arrived at Cairns Airport and called the company to find out where to locate the office at the airport. Told we had to go 'downtown' to pick car up and if we wanted car at airport had to pay a fee??! Then same deal upon returning car. Hubby had to leave me with the kids and all the luggage standing at the entrance while he dropped the car off and got a shuttle back. Was not impressed to say the least. Not happy Jan. The lady at the office said 'yes it's a bit misleading'. Not disclosing this info at the time of booking is REALLY misleading.... me thinks....

Today when we dropped off our car, a staff member (Rebecca, a seriously angry red-head) aggressively approached us and almost immediately said 'You are going to be charged a cleaning fee!' When we politely enquired why, she rudely exclaimed it was due to sand (yes, there was some sand, but not an excessive amount and certainly not enough to warrant the $250 cleaning fee she was insisting that we would have to pay). She proceeded to point out the sand to a fellow staff member who rudely chimed in, 'Yeah. Ping 'em!' as if gaining cleaning fees was some type of sport. She continued to act in an inappropriate, rude, disgusting and angry manner to myself, and my husband in front of our small children. We travel regularly and hire cars constantly and we have NEVER been treated so poorly. We were her customers, yet her approach was as if we had stolen the car and crashed it into a ditch (not simply left sand on the mats). Additionally, this is the only time we have been charged in relation to sand. Every other car company doesn't bat an eyelash, since the cars get vaccuumed anyway. We will NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. And, we will ensure that our experience is circulated across as many channels as possible to ensure no one else suffers the appalling service and complete rip-off of a cleaning fee. Rebecca should be terminated. She is the absolute worst person I have ever encountered in any service industry.

One of the worst rental experiences we've ever had -- and we were stranded with a toddler. Our…read moreflight landed at 10:00 PM (only 15 mins late), and by the time we collected our luggage and called East Coast Car Rentals at exactly 10:30 PM, their office was already shut. No one answered, no instructions were provided, and we had no way to access the car we had booked. We had to scramble late at night with a child under 2, pay for multiple taxis -- to their office, then to our accommodation, and again the next morning -- just to finally get the vehicle. To make matters worse, when they called back the next day, the staff were completely unapologetic and rude, repeatedly blaming us and showing zero empathy. Then, when I called on the day of return to simply ask how long the car return process usually takes so I could plan my journey, I was met with one of the rudest customer service reps I've ever spoken to. He outright refused to give me any timeframe and wouldn't explain why I couldn't request an airport shuttle over the phone. Very poor operations. No accountability. No support. And absolutely disgraceful customer service. Never booking with them again.

The…read moretalk on the vehicle was brief, but self explanatory, and has a DVD which goes through all the issues or basic functions of the van. We had only one mechanical fault throughout the duration of the rental, this being to a loose Drew upon starting van, the mechanic was at the site within 10minutes of calling TA helpline, so obviously have extensive mechanic network. The only issues for feedback is toll roads. There was very little explained apart from if you incurr charges. Coming from somewhere where we don't pay tolls the system is hard, and a bit backward. More time should be explained as to what should be done to prepaying for tolls, and not this is what you do when you are fined and it's too late, but it's not our fault.
