The employees were aloof and unresponsive about it. when they gave him to me he was shaking and upset for hours. He has never been the same for grooming since this event. Horrible place! Don't take your dog here unless you want to see it abused! Last visit there cost me $170 in vet bills and a very sick dog! Over 2 weeks to recover from there cutting him! No apologies!! Just rude! It's not the first time that I've had issues...but this last really cost me a lot! My other dog got an eye infection after his grooming appointment. I thought he may have gotten a hair or something in his eye, but he ended up needing a script for eye drops to clear it. The vet said they scratched his actual eye! they did an absolutely amazing job! They did exactly what I asked and even gave him good puppy cut legs. Soooo happy with how he turned out. Unfortunately the two times he has been here he comes home with extremely itchy skin and does a lot of butt scooting since his appointment. I asked the groomers not to do any anal gland releasing of any sort and I feel like they low key still did because he has a very sensitive butt and is now scooting and showing signs of irritation in that region. The only groomer I go to in Rochester! I have a shih tzu and let me tell you, he is a pain to groom. His hair grows so fast, he mats easily, and I didn't do the best job training him to stay still, so it is a struggle to do myself. I first took him to Petsmart for grooming and he came back SHAKING. The next time we went (for shopping, not for grooming), he got nervous immediately when we walked in. He is an anxious dog, but I decided to take him to another groomer because he clearly had a bad experience there. So I looked up local places and this one had great reviews. I've been taking him here for the past year and a half. Every time he goes to Bark Avenue Dog, he is calm and comes back looking and smelling amazing. I even walked in once before they finished with him and he didnt bark or start fidgeting when he saw me, he just calmly let her finish. I know my dog very well, and that was impressive! BEST HAIRCUT i've gotten my dog in the 3 years she has been in Rochester. I am so disappointed I didn't try Bark Ave sooner. The cut came to $47ish dollars and I left a $10 tip. I have a 4 year old Maltese and the groomer did just as I requested. I showed her several pictures of Marti after being groomed by my favorite place in San Diego. Dont do it. Manager/Owner is nasty. Don't see much of the original staff there anymore...my groomer used to bring my dog out to me, then suddenly doesn't. I will say my dog always looked good, but who's ever managing that place now, whew.,.needs to bring it down a few notches. I brought my two golden retrievers In for a full grooming and de shedding and they came back looking beautiful! They needed an oatmeal and tea tree skin conditioning treatment because the last groomer didn't wash all of the soap off of them and their skin and fur were dry. The storefront is small and not fancy, parking is a challenge, but I could tell they did a very good job. IMPRESSED! I have 2 Great Pyrenees - at 100 lbs each and triple coated, grooming them is a lot of work! I've groomed them myself for years, but it's just too much. Not only because they aren't well behaved while being groomed, but they are BIG and STRONG. If they don't want their butt feathers trimmed, nails clipped, or matts cut off their belly . . . then good luck. When I dropped them off this morning I explained the challenges and no one was intimidated. 3 1/2 hours later I got the call that they were done. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Bark Avenue! I am from NYC and my puppy had a horrible experience at a groomers so ever since then, I had major trust issues with taking him to anyone. On a recent trip to Rochester, I decided to give it a go and take him here, and I'm so glad I did. I adopted 10 year old pooch a few months ago. I am so obsessed with him it is absurd (see profile picture). I dropped him to Bark Ave for a hair trim and could not believe what I came back to! He looked like a whole new dog! He smelled amazing (like gingerbread...it was around Christmas) and had a sweet little bowtie on his collar. I could barely handle his cuteness. The groomers were so nice and really professional. They helped me decide on a hair length for Ewok for a solid 10 minutes with so much patience. They seem to have fixed whatever billing errors had occurred in the past. We have been charged correctly the last several times we have gone to Bark Ave. It has also been helpful scheduling appointments in advance (every 8-12 weeks) for our pups so we don't have to deal w/difficulties in calling them and reaching them during the day while they're busy in the back. The staff are also super-receptive to feedback. We thought one of our dogs haircut came out a bit short in April, so we let them know. The next time (in June) she had a perfect-length cut. The fur swatch at the counter is helpful if you're not sure how short you want to go. They keep a record of what they did last time so you don't have to remember what you did for each pup, which is super convenient. read more

My little 3 pound maltipoo looked so cute and I asked for a trim and was extremely Specific that I wanted no shaving nothing besides a tiny trim on the body and a little near his eyes. I said it a million times that I wanted no new style because I was so nervous they would not listen and guess what! They decided to completely ignore what I said and justified by saying "but this is always what we do to dogs" in referring to shaving the middle of his face. He doesn't look the same at all. My dog Lucy has been here twice since we moved back to Roc from NYC. They do a wonderful job, are pretty quick, and really reasonable pricing. They keep track of how they cut your dogs hair each time, so you can either ask for the same cut, or let them know what you want to be different, and it is done correctly. They also have a large piece of fake fur to demonstrate what the diffferent lengths are -- really handy! All together great little doggie salon, they treat your dog very well, and do a wonderful job. After being a loyal Petco customer for 7 years, I had trouble getting my dogs in fit an appointment and had to find a new groomer. I had driven by here many many times and always wondered if they were good and reasonably priced. One dog needs a bath and deshed and the other a bath and full cut. I called and was quoted a very reasonable price, which actually beat Petco's rate. Upon entering it smells clean and is tidy, they could have run a broom around the lobby to get up some hair, but it is a dog groomer after all. They were quick to attend to me and my dogs. Even when one of my dogs had a nervous accident the staff cleaned it up quick illy and thoroughly without any sense if frustration. They took my dogs in early and gave me a return time far shorter than I had ever received at Petco! The lobby is cute, simple, and contemporary. The doggie boutique could use some more merchandise but I'm not big on doggie fashion so no loss on my part. The bathroom was small and needed cleaning...and the microwave on the floor near the toilet was a little strange. However, this is a dog focused business so I digress. When I returned a little early the dogs were ready! The price was just as quoted. The dogs were happy! The cut was outstanding! I am very very pleased! A great experience, I will absolutely be back! Bark Avenue always does a great job haircut wise. A while back my dog was cut on the eye and they picked up the bill and were very apologetic. We haven't been back since (maybe a year or so), but I decided to take her back last week because our other groomer was booked. I was asked to take off her Seresto flea collar before I left her (no big deal), HOWEVER... almost immediately when we arrived home afterwords my dog was itching and biting like crazy. I put the collar back on her in the car (I carried her, so no, she didn't get them from outside) and found that she had fleas. I called to speak to a manager the next day and still have not gotten a call back, even a week later. I will not be going back after this experience. Took my dog for a full grooming service and was very satisfied with the overall result from the trim. However, they took twice as long with my dog which started having me worried, and didn't care to apply any kind of "perfume" to his coat. Now I know that might be a preference thing but if you're paying $70 for the service, I would expect to be asked beforehand. read more

We had really positive experiences with Bark Ave until our recent visit where our dog was cut in three spots during her grooming appointment. We were told about one spot after the visit but discovered two more places where she was cut when we got home. I called immediately to let them know what happened and two weeks later, the cut has still not healed, and we have contacted the vet. They claimed to not have any responsibility because they didn't know that they cut her during the visit. They did not apologize either for cutting her. Terrible service. My friend just got her dog groomed and they went too short on one of her nails and made her bleed :( after her appointment she was extremely shaky and scared. My friend called to explain to them that she was very dissatisfied with the service and they told her it was from the concrete why would you send a dog out of the door bleeding ? At least have the audacity to communicate with the owner about what happened instead of the lm finding out when they got home.... so sad. read more

I called early Saturday morning for a dog groomer locally and learned that many are discriminatory against large breed dogs. I don't blame them, Floyd, my 160lb Newfoundland is a big boy with lots of hair but my entrepreneurial mindset made me think that people should just charge more for large breeds; not shy away? Anyways, I called Bark Ave and the woman who answered the phone didn't have any openings but took my name and number and would talk with the other groomers to see if they could squeeze in my Sasquatch sized dog. Sure enough, she called back within the hour and was able to fit Floyd in their busy schedule. So I hopped on the back of this slobbery purebred and rode him down to the city for a grooming. As soon as we walked in, Floyd heard all the action in the back and wanted to play with the other dogs. The groomer was so good at making Floyd feel at home. Me and my wife love Bark Avenue, but the true tell tale sign are my 2 dogs Shye and Gizmo, when we take them to Bark Avenue, our dogs are happy campers. They don't have that afraid feel and love the staff there. I just read that review by Fay A - and I'm guessing she is probably a friend of the competition, because that would be only reason someone would write a bad review about this place. Shame on Fay. Is it possible that we could get someone at a cheaper price ? maybe but I guess you will get what you pay for and I would rather let my dogs get treated extra nice each time they come to Bark Ave, to me the dogs are my #1 priority. :-) read more
