Jeff is so kind and genuinely cares for each dog as if it was his own. We have dropped our doggo off for multiple night stays a few times and are very happy with the care he received. A few different places were suggesting that we bring in our dog 2-3 times before he could stay with them. That seemed quite excessive. Jeff recommended once, which is all that was needed. I found Bark Side of the Moon while planning my first trip away from home since 2020. Lil Ricky (my senior chihuahua) is a special flower, and 2 years of being home with his family made him (and I!) particularly nervous about being separated from his humans and his home. But Jeff at Bark Side made sure Ricky felt safe and cared for. I appreciate that, unlike some doggy daycares, Bark Side has a more mellow, chill vibe, which is perfect for my older, smaller dog. We LOVE Bark Side of the Moon. Our dog, Tula, goes there for daycare each week and boarding when we are on vacation. She is ALWAYS so excited to go to Bark Side (see the pic of her on the way to daycare) and is always a tired and happy pup when we pick her up. I have sat on this review for a very long time. I will start out with a few disclaimers. This is a review on day care only. I have never owned a dog before on my own. I had childhood dogs, but the dog I have now is the first one I've ever been soley responsible for and yes, it is just me here so day care is crucial for me to keep a job. I am a project manager for a living. I am organized and I appreciate when my questions are answered especially when they are reasonable and concerning a living creature that I am responsible for. I called ahead in an attempt to get to meet the owners, take a tour, provide paperwork, etc. This seemed to be the standard at all the other places I yelp-ed in the city (I live in 60640). Immediately I was brushed off on the phone - I'm busy and I can't talk now. Ok, no worries. I understand. Is there a time to call back or come in? No. That was that. Ok I thought, maybe just a rough day? I call back the next day and ask some of the same questions and got basically the same responses. (Don't ask me why I kept going at this point when ALL of my sensors were telling me not to). Finally, he gives in and allows me to come in. I said that I won't have much time in the morning so anything I can do ahead of time would be great. I had taken several days off to acclimate my new dog and get a good schedule down for her. I was trying to be flexible. I show up and he basically kicks me out again saying he is busy and I came at a bad time which was the time we agreed upon so uhhhh ok. Once again, I don't know why I kept going at this point but I did. I figured all the good Yelp reviews couldn't be wrong and everyone is totally allowed to have an off week or day or whatever. I show up at 7 on the dot on a Monday morning. He isn't open yet. Another gentleman and I are waiting outside, no biggie at all. Out of no where this woman walks up and takes my dog out of my hands and says sorry we're late today. Once again, no biggie. However, this is when it goes really south. She keeps walking with my dog and I never even see where she goes. The dude basically says "I'll see you later." Uhhhh, do you need my papers? oh yea...sure...i guess. can you leave them? once again, why am i still standing there?! I finally had to ask, do you know which dog is even mine? he responds OH this one and points basically to the ground. I can't see the ground dude so you could be pointing to nothing, to a dog that isn't mine, or hopefully actually my dog. At this point he once again tells me he is busy and has to go. Maybe people like this sort of thing. Not knowing where your pet is going. Will they get fed? Do they have a little corner to sleep if need be? Will they get water? Will she be in a room with GIANT dogs or will she get to chill with buddies her own side. I know I'm a little crazy, but these seem like reasonable questions. He never gave me the time of day. I had to send my aunt over there before work because I was scared and couldn't get out of my meetings for the day. Icing on the cake? When I went to pick her up the lady scolded me for tattling on her and kept repeating that they had been in business for 20 years. That's fantastic, but this is one lady who will never step a foot nor a paw in that place ever again. I love my dog and I need to know she is safe all day. Plain and simple...if you want that. Such a great place! The owner is a very sweet and nice man! I can tell he truly loves animals. I was a bit nervous leaving my dog for the first time at Barkside of the Moon but there was no reason to worry. When I picked him up, I could tell he had a great time. Plus, this is the most inexpensive boarder I've used in the city and surrounding suburbs. It was $35 over Christmas instead of the $50 I paid last year at another boarder. read more

Sadly, last week I moved away from Andersonville. Among the many drawbacks of moving away is that I now have to find a new walker and sitter for my dog. After moving from Ohio and leaving a wonderful doggy daycare facility there, I was on the look for a place just as good for my high energy goldendoodle. After reading reviews on Yelp, I took him to Bark Side of the Moon once, and haven't looked back. I take my dog there ~2 times a week and he loves it. He gets so excited as we pull up, as he knows a day of fun is in his near future. Jeff is great, accommodating and so easy going. After 5 years of having help from parents when I went out of town, I was no longer near the convenience of having pup go to "grandma and grandpa's" as easily. I had never boarded my dog, and I was very nervous. I knew my pup would do just fine, it was me that I was worried about. I chose the weekend of Lollapalooza to board him for the first time. I would be in the city in case something were to happen. From the moment I dropped my dog off, I had a sense of comfort all weekend knowing that my dog was in Jeff's care. He stayed all weekend and there were no issues. I will definitely be boarding my dog with him again, and continue taking him to daycare on the regular. Jeff and Bark Side of the Moon have been a godsend. We have a rambunctious Saint Bernard who needs some daycare or she will go NUTS (she loves ALL the dogs). We tried out another place, but after some mishaps with that business, it became clear we needed to find another spot for Lucy. I stumbled upon Bark Side of the Moon through yelp, and I echo all the other five-star reviews. Jeff and his staff (Friends? Staff?) are GREAT with the dogs. Absolutely great. They know all the pups and treat them like they are their own. Lucy goes two days a week, and our usually-apprehensive dog loves him (she is afraid of most people, even if she has met them before). I also love that he will board dogs, but it's not typical boarding. It's like she's going to a sleepover - no cages, just hanging out with her dog friends. Great place - would highly recommend if you are looking for a doggie daycare. read more

I wish there were more stars to give Jeff at Bark Side of the Moon! I have 2 ultra-tiny Pomeranians (2 and 3 pounds), and I was very worried about leaving them with just "any old dog boarder" when we went to Mexico for a week. Because of how quickly little dogs can go downhill if stressed out or not given enough attention, I researched a lot of places, and chose Jeff because of his Yelp reviews. Jeff was so friendly, easy to get a hold of, accommodating, informative, and just generally nice. He gave my babies special attention like he does all the dogs, and when my boyfriend and I got back from Mexico he let us pick up the pups even though it was an inconvenience to him and the kennel was closed. We couldn't thank him enough, because we felt we couldn't go another minute without seeing them! My pooches were well cared for, he looks out for all the dogs best interests, and you can tell he is a genuine animal lover. Thanks, Jeff! We'll definitely be using you again!! read more

Bark Side of the Moon is such a wonderful place to either take your dog for daycare or to board overnight. Jeff, the owner, is very attentive, takes requests at the last minute, plays guitar for the dogs, and just an overall pleasure to do business with. In the last month I have taken my 3 month Golden Retriever there daily for daycare, he gets walked up to 5x per day, is now able to sleep through the night for 6 hrs straight, and has been trained to get along with other dogs, as well as, cats (mine). Jeff charges $20 per day for daycare (hours are from 7am to 7:30pm) or $35 for overnight boarding. He only has about 15 dogs daily so providing attention to the dogs isn't a problem. Jeff also lives above the daycare as well which is quite convenient when your running late. read more

Our puppy absolutely ADORES Bark Side of the Moon. As many others have mentioned, our pup is actually excited to go visit Jeff, and is always very happy and (thankfully) very worn out after a day of playing & jamming out to Jeff's tunes at Bark Side of the Moon. We're moving away from the city soon, and SO sad to be losing this absolute gem of a place. My prior doggie daycare provider went out of business and so my dobe Louie and I started with Barkside a couple months ago...such a tranquil environment. I brought my dog Jack into Bark Side of the Moon for the first time and had a very pleasant experience. After shopping around to find the best price I decided to check this place out. We were greeted warmly when we walked in the door by the owner Jeff. This place was really cute, and did not have that "smell" that other doggie day care centers often have! I discussed my apprehension about leaving my dog overnight and Jeff comforted me which helped qualm my anxieties about leaving Jack. I paid the few dollars extra to have my dog sleep in bed with Jeff that evening!! The dogs all seemed genuinely happy there, playing and listening to Jeff play guitar! We have taken our dog here 3x (weekend-2 weeks/holiday) and she has come back to us healthy and happy each time! Jeff gives all the pooches one-on-one attention and walks them multiple time a day. He's got a great set up (multiple locking doors/gates) to prevent breakouts. Just peek in the window and you can always see dogs hanging out on the recliners, lounging around or listening to Jeff play them music on the guitar (he's a big music fan if you didn't get that from the whimsical name of the place!) At Barkside of the Moon she is allowed to play all day with the other dogs (always supervised by Jeff) and returns to us with tail wagging (as opposed to when we used to board her at Petsmart!) I've recommended Barkside of the Moon to all my friends as Jeff is trustworthy, reliable, flexable and affordable. I will continue to take her to Barkside of the Moon. read more

Never seen the kids happier! Having three dogs with three different temperaments is a lot to handle. What I find amazing is that Emma, Joe and Jack were all obviously happy to be at Bark Side of the Moon. Never saw them all so happy to go stay at a location outside of our home. Even Jack the Jack Russell was calm when we came back to get him - now that is amazing!!! It could be that the owner Jeff plays guitar for the kids which seems to calm them down. Maybe he sings better then I do. Anyway if you have a dog I cannot think of any location I would rather leave my kids at - check it out. read more

My Dog had only been in a kennel one time in her 10 years. And it was not a good experience . But I've heard and read about Jeff and Bark side of the moon. I've had my dog Annie stay there 11 days. Picked her up, she looked great. Didn't even smell like she's been with other dogs . And most important she was not stressed out . No side affect, like diarrhea. I started taking my black lab mix, Coal, here a few months ago and he absolutely loves it! I've never seen a dog get so excited when dropped off at the kennel. The first time that I picked up Coal after being out of town for a weekend, I was afraid that he wouldn't want to come home with me :) Jeff is wonderful and I could tell immediately that he loves his job. He is so good with the dogs here and really gives them the one-on-one attention they deserve. I have heard nothing but good things. Jeff is such a sweet guy! Petunia, our very anxious beagle, has a hard time being away from home and it is really nice to know that we have someone in the neighborhood that can take excellent care of her. Jeff is so easy going and you can tell it has a very positive impact on the dogs. We have taken Petunia many places before and we always have a lot of trouble when we pick her up because she takes a couple of weeks to get back in the swing of things. Jeff Hallead has recently reopened a local Doggie Daycare Center in the Andersonville Neighborhood. The previous daycare closed because Jeff's business partner moved away. I was so excited to see the facility reopen. I have an Italian Greyhound (small/delicate dog) so I wont leave him with just anyone. Jeff did a great job taking care of my dog. He gave me updates and did a follow-up call after I brought my dog home. I would recommend Bark at the Moon to anyone needing doggie daycare, overnight services, and/or walking services. My dog runs (not walks) to Bark Side of the Moon. She adores the owner, Jeff, and I can tell she is being treated with all the love and care she needs during the day while I'm at work. Jeff is very attentive to the dogs and he has even fed her when she was too excited to eat in the morning. We live close by and we have to watch our dog because if she sees Jeff through the window of our house she throws a fit until she can go out and say hello to him. Thanks to Jeff, I now have a dog who is very social and loves to play and she is WORN OUT when I pick her up in the afternoons. I don't know what we would do without Jeff. We have been taking our 3 year old lab "Tucker" there since he was first brought home. Jeff is so accommodating. Every so once in a while we need a slightly earlier drop off or a slightly later pick up, no problems. Everytime i walk in the water bowls are full and so is the lazy boy. When we first visited this place, we were a little concerned that our pup may end up a pothead if we took him here. It's such a chill vibe, we weren't sure what to think. So we visited the huge doggy daycare down the street. Thank God there was too long of a wait list, as we ended up taking our pup to Barkside of the Moon, and we love it! Our pup adores Jeff, the "living room" environment has helped potty train him, and he's always happy and healthy when we pick him up. Looking back, our dog gets way more love and attention here than if he was stuffed in a room with 100 other "small dogs", forced to pee on the floor all day. We really couldn't be happier. Sometimes when I go there to get my dog I don't want to leave. It is a cheerful environment where dogs really enjoy themselves. If I'm lucky I can catch Jeff playing his guitar for the dogs. It calms them down when things get real active. Not to mention he's pretty dang good! I'll never feel guilty about leaving my dog here.In fact, I'm a little jealous knowing my dog is having a much better time than me. I don't know why I haven't written this review before but it's time I did! Jeff and the crew at Bark Side of the Moon are nothing short of Amazing. I have a rescued miniature poodle mix who can be somewhat skittish but loves spending time here. I've never used their daycare services, only overnights when I'm traveling and Jeff is always extremely accommodating (often on very short notice). I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to rest assured that their pet is being well taken care of while you're away. read more

I used to take my dog to Jeff when she was a puppy. She would go to daycare 2-3 days a week. Jeff was so good to the dogs and flexible with his hours too. He's a good guy and I always trusted him with Anna. She loved going and pulled me into the door every time. She couldn't wait to get inside with Jeff and the dogs. It was good for her at the time because he had just opened and only had 4-5 dogs a day. it didn't seem overwhelming for a puppy to enter the space and feel like she was cornered. It took her 1 day to be comfortable and lovin' it. I've since been using Erin, the dog walker extraordinare, but sometimes I need to take Anna to daycare. I tried a new place in the neighborhood. It's wonderful, the people are fantastic but Anna never wants to go inside. I don't know why other than perhaps two many dogs are at the door waiting for her and she's scared. I think I'll go back to Jeff for the personal attention and the relaxed atmosphere for the dogs. I don't think dogs get as much personal attention at other day care facilities as they do at Jeff's. read more

We've been taking our dog there since it was first opened--under a different owner and was called "Schnortzville." That was not such a great operation; however, one of the employees who remained (after the previous owner skipped town), Jeff, decided to reopen it and start over with Bark Side of the Moon. We are SOOOOO glad he did! He is a natural dog lover and really cares about creating a good, relaxing, and fun place for dogs. We take her to doggie day care several times a week and also board her there when needed--she LOVES Jeff and is always excited to go to Bark Side of the Moon.
