I contacted Barker Door to place my order for custom drawers for cabinets I built, and told them I would pick them up rather than have them shipped. I live locally so why would I pay the rediculously high shipping charges (half the price of my order) they wanted to charge me when I could pick them up myself? It seems they make a large portion of their final quote off of the shipping: BEWARE! Regardless, they told me picking up my order was not an option and that they ship all orders. I ordered from another local company, and got SOLID birch doors with dovetail joints AND FREE SHIPPING for $50 less that what Barker wanted to charge for plywood drawers. IKEA pricing, custom quality. This is a review of my initial, but surely not last, experience with Barker Cabinet's (AKA Barker Door) dovetail drawer box kits. I wish I'd known about this product years ago. As long as one remembers that one can't optimize for speed, quality, and price, one will be very satisfied waiting three weeks for great quality at a low price. I bought two drawer kits of their cheapest grade: 1/2 inch Baltic plywood, dovetailed drawer box. Mind you, this is their bottom grade and the drawer sides are computer cut from 11-ply sheets. ELEVEN! Try finding that at your local box store. The drawer bottom is a full 1/4 inch thick of around (I can no longer see the edge because it's enclosed by the rabbets) and was around 5 ply. So many plys mean both strength and stability, as in staying flat over time. The drawers assembled with the same ease that the little 5-minute video shows: spot of glue, thump of mallet, let dry. If DIY is too scary, they have an assembled option too. The only mildly difficult part was attaching and aligning the excellent quality Made-in-USA Knape and Vogt (KV) drawer guides. I used the measuring and installation instructions on the Barker Door web site and it just worked. The drawer slides are full extension, which means the inside back of the drawer can extend to the edge of the counter. The drawer guides cost more than the drawers (because I ordered such little drawers) but they are worth every penny because they are so well made. In sum, I'm looking for another place to add some cool drawers. read more

I placed my order on January 4, 2022 for TWO cabinet doors, made in maple with primer. On the top of my order, it stated: Current LEAD TIME at time order was placed (estimate, not guaranteed) Cabinet Doors: 1.5-3 weeks (add 2-3 weeks for painted/stained doors, add 1-2 weeks for PRIMER ONLY). So 3 weeks for production + 2 weeks for primer = 5 weeks total or an approximate ship date of February 9. Granted, this is an "estimate and not guaranteed", but when I inquired after 3 weeks (the cupboard doors SHOULD have been made by then) at the end of January, Gerardo told me to wait until mid February for my order to ship (Putting the total time at 6 weeks rather than the 5 weeks promised). That would have been acceptable, especially since my painter was lined up waiting to paint these doors. Of course, in mid February, the lead time suddenly increased by 3-4 additional weeks, and I was told to look for my shipment the first or second week of March. I have no idea if that will actually happen, and am left waiting for cupboard doors to finish our project (and I will have to bring my painter back to the job to spray the doors at that time). I sure hope the finished product is worth the wait, and I thought I'd add this experience to the mix listed. Clearly the many reviews listing the slow delivery are accurate and the "estimated" times they list are very INACCURATE (the company could revise their estimates to be more accurate so people can plan and decide if they should order with Barker Doors in the first place). That is my experience so far. I will continue to wait and hope that Barker Doors produces my doors very soon and ships them. Hopefully the quality will be good (no crossgrain scratches and router marks as Andy B. listed) and worth the LONG wait. read more

In response to Chad's complaint, Why would Yelp hide favorable reviews? Furthermore, Chad appears to think it reasonable that after all that hassle I endured to receive cabinets that passed initial inspection, for which I was never compensated for, that today they are split crap that I have to replace to sell my house. Advice to all, find a good custom cabinet maker that gets paid when the cabinets show up/ installed and are beautiful. You'll pay the same price without the frustration. In response, take 2. I never insisted on a refund, I was never offered a refund, and I never received a refund. And if Barker hadn't try to appease me I would have sued them in small claims court. That said, the laminate cabinets today are split crap. Barker definitely has issues with manufacturing quality laminate and unfortunately its the costumers that pay the price. Initially, the final shipment passed my inspection, but the laminate gradually separated and today, only 2 years later, this door need replacing. Just installed new Barker Cabinets in my kitchen. I paid for upgraded maple doors. I drilled through one of the panels to install an outlet in my island and it was made of MDF with wood veneer. I emailed thinking this was a mistake and they said no that is normal. I feel like they should be a little more transparent with their marketing. I ordered 41 cabinet doors and drawers from Barker. It did take a little over 3 weeks to receive them. When they finally arrived I found them to be very well built. The workmanship was extremely high quality. I have been in construction 38 years and have not seen tighter and cleaner joints in cabinet construction. I can't say enough about the packing they came in. I had many concerns about how they would arrive using Fedex shipping. I thought the vulnerable corners would be damaged....Someone at Barker wrapped the corners and boxed the pieces with such care as to prevent damage. I needed a pair of doors to complete the installation of a new wall oven which was about one inch too tall for the old cabinet. Cutting down the cabinet was a breeze, but not the doors. There are a lot of websites purporting to offer replacement doors, and if you're not fussy, they are cheaper than Barker Door. When I found they wanted lots of detail about the size, style and careful measurements of everything, I knew this was the manufacturer for me. The success of this project was a result of my careful measurements made twice, so they didn't make anything that needed to be done over. And of their care in being sure they understood. They do careful work, and it took a few months till the doors came. The new doors fit perfectly, and match perfectly. I switched the hinge hardware and knobs, and I was done. read more

I purchased 4 drawers (2 different sizes) from Barker Door and the quality is excellent!! I purchased the Dovetail Drawer Box - 5/8" Baltic Plywood, unfinished and not assembled. I received the shipment within 2 weeks and the drawers were super easy to assemble and fit snugly. Dimensions were within 1/8" or less that specified. On the spot in timing. They note 2.5 weeks and my 2 drawers arrived exactly then. The material we chose was great. Its on my honey do list to replace the broken drawers this weekend, so cant say if they're going to work yet. Cross fingers as the old ones were particle board that came with house. I gave it a 4 as there was no receipt of instructions, just a post it note with name. I figured it out, but I'm not wood or craft savvy so pictures or simple instructions ok ns goes a long way. We intend to use wood glue to keep parts in place but a dry fit shows stability too. read more

After noting the 5-8 week production timeline, I was happy when I received an email at 5 weeks that part of my order would ship. It took a total of 4 weeks for my 10 packages to be shipped across the country to me, at which time I noticed that 3 slab drawer fronts were missing. When I contacted Barker, they took a week to determine that the drawer fronts were never made, and that it would be another 3 weeks in order to manufacture them; putting final production time at twice the length of the estimated manufacture time (14 weeks). When the slab drawer fronts finally arrived I discovered that rather than being made from one solid piece of wood, they were glued together "butcher block style" with one drawer having 2 very obvious glue seams in under 4". In addition to the inaccurate timeline, the quality is not what I would expect from someone touting "high end" cabinetry. One door was drilled with hinge cups that weren't desired. There are drips/runs in the finish. Lastly, every 5 piece door has glue leftover in the front corners. Speaking as someone who built custom cabinets for over a decade, these mistakes are amateur, and can be easily rectified if caught during the production cycle. The drawer boxes that came already assembled were not straight and square, so I had to break down, disassemble, straighten, and reassemble 5 out of 7 drawer boxes. It makes me wonder why I paid extra for them to be pre-assembled and clear coated at the factory. The only thing I would considerer to be "high end" is the use of solid wood and the accuracy of dimensions. These doors are too expensive for the quality you receive, the company is difficult (bordering on impossible) to communicate with, and they don't seem to have any sort of urgency in fixing their manufacturing oversights. I cannot recommend Barker for price, quality, customer service, or expediency. read more

I ordered 4 drawer slides for my wife. I only received 3 of the 4 slides. Although I do have their phone number, no one answers it. You leave a message and they NEVER return your call. Their response went from, " Shows delivered" to "I'll look around for it" to, after contacting my Visa company, "We found it and will ship". The slide quality is amazing and the prices are fair for what you get. The customer service is HORRIBLE!!! I have a nice 25 year old kitchen with gorgeous hardwood everywhere in view. The problem is that the back structure and drawer boxes were made from plastic film coated sawdust and glue GARBAGE. Over the past few years, drawer boxes would literally fall apart upon opening, and the base sawdust and glue structure was impossible to repair. So, after searching for a better drawer box option, I ordered a full set of custom Baltic plywood drawer boxes from Barker. Nothing fancy. Just real plywood that should last several lifetimes. I'm so impressed. Even though plywood is Barkers' cheapest option, the wood is beautifully made. There are no visible voids at the edge faces. The finish veneer faces are blemish free if you choose to stain. Even the bottom panel is real plywood, not cardboard, and the blemish free facing side is identified. They even offer YouTube how to videos... The CNC work is also perfect. I measured exactly to avoid rail fitment issues, and I was delivered perfectly cut components. Assembly was easy, tight, square, and gorgeous! These are the drawer boxes that should have been installed in the first place.... It did take a few weeks for my order to be filled, but I understand the nature of custom machine cut cabinetry, and I don't deduct so much as a point for that. The bottom line is that I will be back for more, and I will not hesitate to buy even high end hardwood cabinetry from them. read more

This is my fault, according to Gerardo. I'm super busy, as I know most of you can understand. I just need to order online, and move on with my life. I thought it would be easy to order with Barker because of their easy-to-use website, even though final quality of the doors would be questionable as is evidenced by the below reviews. Unfortunately, the customer service is horrendous! I responded to the email from Gerardo to correct an error in my order. He gave me 3 options to correct one errored drawer measurement in my list of 9 correctly measured items: a. Cancel that one piece. b. Go with a smaller door (which is a silly option, really. I mean, who is like, "I'll take a mini-door to go over that huge cabinet. That'll work fine." c. Pay more for the correct size. I wrote back immediately that I'll pay more and he should go ahead with the order. I also requested a new invoice so I can know the higher cost. In his next email he seemed confused, though I can't figure out why. I thought I'd need a moment to figure out what else he needs from me. But I was at work until late at night. He emailed me once again the next day while I was at an all day event. Then, instead of asking me when to call, he just surprise calls me the following day when I was at an all-day (and night) work event. I emailed saying just tell me the extra cost but please go ahead with the order. He emailed me the following day saying I was not communicating and he canceled the entire order! It seems that customer service at Barker is limited to the hours that work for the salesperson instead of the hours that the customer actually has time to talk! He didn't once ask me when I would have time to talk about it. He never gave me any indication of how much more this would cost, which is all I was asking for. Now I'm really out of luck! I can't move into my new place, and with hours like mine, it's hard to find an easy solution. I'm going to hire a contractor who will show up at times I'm available. It'll be far more complicated than just ordering online, but Gerardo left me without an alternative. Edit: I now just began reading all the other negative reviews about customer service. We're a contracting company doing 20-25 kitchens a year. We were excited to find Barker Cabinets, and had high hopes. The products themselves are well built, nice products. Our issues come with the company and their processes. Barker Cabinets and Barker Door are NOT the same company. If you want to say, reface your base cabinets and order new wall cabinets, its two orders, to freight charges, two completely separate customer services etc. We were literally just a couple hundred dollars short to receive free shipping on both orders, where had they been combined we would have been well above the free shipping. Be aware, they allow NO change orders. I understand if a cabinet is built, you can't change it. But its not uncommon to have a change a few days later. We attempted to add an additional cabinet, and were told that we had to open a completely new order, and pay yet another freight charge. It was easier to just build it from scratch. Also, we had a couple doors damaged in shipping. Again, no direct fault of the company. However they treat the replacements as a brand new order. So its another 6-8 weeks to receive a replacement. When trying to complete a retail job for a customer, these delays are too much. If you a home owner, and can afford to wait 2-4 months for a complete order, they may be an option. If you are in any type of remodeling profession, consider the other vendors in the market, and Barker will likely leave you with an angry customer, and stretched budgets. read more

Refaced my kitchen myself. Ordered all new cabinet doors and drawer fronts and two rolls of veneer to cover cabinet boxes from Barker Door. Everything came in the mail with no damage, dimensions were all correct and quality was beautiful. All doors and drawers were maple with a clear coat applied to them by Barker. First of all, after I finished applying the veneer and was ready to apply the clear coat, because veneer comes unfinished, I contacted them to ask what brand/product I should use for the clear coat and at first they couldn't even tell me. I explained that they are selling a product that needs to be finished, by the customer, it's their job to know what that customer needs to use to match the finish they provide on their doors/door. Just trying to get the answer to that question was so frustrating because the people with the more in depth knowledge will only communicate to you via email. They will NEVER TALK TO YOU ON THE PHONE. They finally answered the question via email but the product that they recommended by Sherwin Williams was not in any SW store, nor on their website. Called SW's 800 # and finally customer service found it under "Commercial Sherwin Williams" which is for tradespeople but on top of that it didn't even matter because the product couldn't be used in my state. It didn't pass state codes. Eventually I just chose a product that had the clearest coat possible by S/W. Lots of emails and running around town and time wasted to get an answer to a question they should already know the answer to. This is their job to know something as simple as this...but oh it gets much worse. Next I installed doors and drawer fronts and what I noticed, it's not subtle in the least, were that the doors, the drawers and the veneer were all three different colors. All drawers were like a white maple, the doors were a yellow or amber color and the veneer had an almost slight pinkish tone to it. So to reiterate here - the doors AND drawer fronts, that were all finished by Barker Door (ordered all at the same time), and they were completely different colors!!!!! It was bad but I figured somehow they would make it right. Knowing how difficult it is to communicate with them I decided to send an email immediately - it was after hours on a Friday. I didn't really expect a response right away but when I did almost immediately I was pleasantly surprised. Now here is where I almost pulled my hair out. Emailed the man dude - Gerardo and explained - all my doors are one color and all my drawers are another color but they all received a clear coat from Barker - instead of picking up the phone and talking with me he starts emailing questions: can you send photos - ok I did. He states, "well it looks like the drawers are raw and don't have a clear coat." Seriously, I'm like "what the f__k? I'm telling you that they all have a clear coat applied by Barker. Why are they different colors?" Then he asks if I can send a photo of the numbers on the back of each drawer etc etc. Then he emails me two links showing the color of raw maple and the color of clear coated maple. Nothing he said was remotely going to either solve my problem nor explain it. If he just picked up the phone the whole conversation would have taken place in minutes but then he says "I've got to go". Granted it was after hours on a Friday but there was no indication that he would get back to me or deal with this problem on Monday or any other day. He just left the computer and that was it. I was soooooo angry. It's one thing to have an issue with a product which happens with any company/product from time to time and to be expected, but to make your customer jump through hoops just trying to explain what the problem is and then not even come up with a solution is infuriating. Or even make a promise that it eventually will get solved. Basically these people think they can run a company and only communicate via email. Well, if you want good reviews and want your customers to end up with a great kitchen that reflects favorably on the company then they need to not just make the stuff and ship it out. You need customer service (real CS that can answer questions and solve problems) and you need quality controls in place. As you can see from the photo attached. Upper left is all of the drawers' color, lower left is all of the doors' color and right is all the veneer color. It has taken me about a week of continual work to reface the whole kitchen and it's very disappointing to end up with a product that doesn't reflect all that effort. I was so excited for Barker. I was planning to purchase about 16 cabinets with them and several cover and side panels for a high end renovation. I spent way too much time dealing with them via email and using their bare bones site. I first contacted on 11/1/18 and then on 12/31/18 they told me they couldn't help. I can't use them for 2 simple reasons: 1) They flat out refused to make me a cover panel for my wine fridge - a door with an opening in the middle to view the glass door. They told me I should piece together 3 different doors which makes absolutely no sense. So I literally can't purchase their cabinets because they refused to make me a cover panel for a standard wine fridge. You think that would be routine for a cabinet maker? So that tells me if you have any customizations then they simply don't have the skill to complete them - or are just unwilling to. 2) There is little to no customer service. They may eventually respond but it's a toss up and it will definitely take time. Between that and their lead time, it's much too long and longer than any competing company (Cliq, Mod, etc) Beware. read more

Outstanding quality, really helpful tutorials on how to measure, and exceptional customer service. You can't call them but if you send a text or email they get back within 2 hours. My husband did the measuring (about 6 times lol) and we got paint to match the doors, which he did as well. The installation was not bad, having the drills that he used, and the finished product is beautiful.
