PRICE/DESIGN: My husband and I bought our first home with an FHA 203(k) mortgage, rolling in the costs of renovating the horrible kitchen. I contacted Barker to get a temporary license for Cabinet Vision and used the program to design an L-shaped kitchen with an additional run of cabinets all the way up to the ceiling in a pantry area next to the fridge. Our kitchen is about 15'x13', with 9' ceilings. We loved the ability to customize down to 1/4", and to get extra tall upper cabinets to really take advantage of our high ceilings. Cabinet Vision takes a little getting used to, but I thought it was super fun, and we needed professional looking elevations of the new kitchen plans to include with our loan application and we definitely didn't want to pay a designer. We chose alder cabinets in the New York Inset design, w/MDF panels. All of the cabinetry came to about 5K. The lowest bid that we received from "custom" places in our area was 8.5K. So, wow, the price is a big deal. The quality of the cabinets that we got is much better than the local competitors, too. Their cabinets were made from .5" plywood and soft close hardware would have been an extra charge. SHIPPING: Some people have complained that Barker is a little slow. We didn't do a finish, because we're painting them a custom color, so maybe that's why ours arrived a week early. Or maybe summer is a better time to order? Either way, we were pleased with the amount of time that it took, which fell into the shorter end of the 27-32 business day estimate they provide. Considering that everything Barker makes is built specifically to order, that is not slow at all! The packing job was absolutely amazing. As we unloaded the freight box that arrived, we just kept saying, "Holy cow, these guys are PROFESSIONALS!" The cabinets shipped all the way across the country, and nothing was damaged at all. ASSEMBLY: Assembly was easy once we watched the YouTube video. We hired a handyman for installation, and he was incredibly impressed with the quality of the cabinets. He said he'd never seen RTA cabinets that he was confident could hold a stone counter top without additional support, but that these ones should have absolutely no problem. HINTS: There's a couple things that we wish we'd known ahead of time, so here's a couple of hints. First, if you have an old house, like us, expect some difficulties with installation. If your walls are out of square and/or plumb, the incredibly perfect squareness of the Barker cabinets will require additional fillers and lots of shimming. Apparently some less well-constructed, non-European style cabinets give more "play" for dealing with these sorts of issues. Second, if you're looking to paint yourself, the MDF is great, but DO NOT use water-based paint! We found this out the hard way. After about 5 rounds of sanding, we managed to get the nice smooth surface back. read more

Superb. First class. Choose your superlatives. First the math on why Barker Cabinets. Initially I considered cabinets from a large Swedish store that yes are much better then they used to be but are still...Then I realized: by doing the work myself my total kitchen remodel budget was already only a fraction (where I live, Washington DC, try say 35%) of what I would pay a contractor. Then consider the day I want to sell. Do I need prospective buyers to say wow that's a great kitchen I want the house or I want the house but we'd have to redo the kitchen ? Put those big picture takes together and I realized that the place you don't skimp on the remodel is the cabinets. Which by the way at Barker are still like less than 50% of what you'd pay an installer for similar quality (maybe even cheaper when you factor in the design time). Add in the web site and the videos on how they build and I was sold. The design process: they have it right on the web site. Although the CAD program takes more than a bit of getting used to, no way would I have been able to do everything on paper. So many variables, such fine measurements - you need to take the time to learn the program. One big word of warning though: obviously Barker aren't big enough and you don't want to pay for it, but the design is on you: much as a design review service would be helpful I can see why they can't do this. Second: when you finally get all the design right you have to know that the design software doesn't speak to the web ordering software (or maybe it does but I just couldn't figure out how). So you have to check and recheck every cabinet against the design because what you can be certain of is what you order will be what you get because the order software clearly talks directly to the manufacturing software. So yes despite my best efforts I got one cabinet wrong, ordered it without a toe kick. I improvised and cut my own was just left with buying a new door. Not bad given I ordered 25 cabinets. Barker did miss two pieces (of 50+) on their shipping but they immediately corrected the error when I told them, missing items were at my home within days. Next the build: if you are contemplating assembling your own cabinets then you are good enough to recognize just how well made these cabinets are. The plywood is better than I've seen anywhere. Super quality, engineered product. The labels on the pieces. Details: like the pull out drawer hardware is split into a bag of right hand pieces and a bag of left hand pieces - why ? Because someone at Barker took the time to figure that that was just a neater thing to do. The drawer and door hardware: engineering marvels, with a clunk and motion like a BMW. Just great. I am a homeowner in the process of remodeling my den and wetbar. I ordered a total of 8 cabinets (den: 4 floor; wetbar: 1 sink, 1 floor, 2 wall). Some I ordered finished and some unfinished. My only previous cabinet experience has been with the cheap Home Depot cabinets; I have never worked with RTA cabinets. The website for placing the order is functional. It would be nice if you could modify a cabinet after you add it to your cart. My work around was to create a spreadsheet with my cabinet specifications, modify it as need be, and use it to make the order via the website. Fabrication and delivery times are clearly discussed on the website. My order arrived as I anticipated, based on the lead time and freight shipping time estimates. The order arrived on a (well-packaged) pallet. No parts arrived damaged. Unfortunately, some parts were missing. When I contacted them about this they were prompt in their response. The missing parts were tracked down or re-fabricated, and shipped to me free of charge. The quality of the cabinets is outstanding. I found only a few, very minor workmanship flaws -- nothing outside my error tolerance. One board was missing a pilot hole. I contacted Barker about this, and asked for the pilot hole size. In their reply, they told me the bit size and they offered to send me a replacement. I declined the replacement and drilled my own pilot hole. Assembly was straight-forward. Assembly instructions and diagrams are provided. However, if you are not familiar with the parts of a cabinet carcass, I suggest you do some Googling to help you be better able to follow the instructions. You can also check out their assembly videos on YouTube. Extra hardware (screws, hinges) is provided. And the hardware is very high quality. I especially like the soft-close feature of the hinges and drawer slides. When you install the door hinges to the doors, pay close attention to getting them perpendicular with the door edge. I found that putting a straight-edge up against the back of both hinges helped align them properly. When I installed the doors to the den cabinets I found that three of them were warped. I believe that this was due to the doors being relatively tall. I contacted Barker and they asked me to send them pictures showing the warpage. I did so, they agreed that the warpage was unacceptable, and they fabricated and sent me replacement doors. Overall, even with the issues with my order, I would give Barker Cabinets 5-star rating as they promptly addressed every issue to my satisfaction. Moreover, my new cabinets look fabulous. When I eventually get around to remodeling my home office, laundry room, and kitchen, I plan to use Barker Cabinets. read more

Ordered $11k worth of kitchen cabinets and doors in early 2021. 14 week backlog. They actually delivered in a little under that. Had some issues getting responses to questions in beginning, but eventually company owner Chad replied and took care of everything. Really really nice paint grade solid maple doors throughout. plywood was 3/4 prefinished, and looked to be high quality American made. I thought I would have to sand the unfinished doors. they had already been hit with 220grit, even corners and edges. as could be expected, a few issues (damaged panel, missing door), and a panel that I forgot. These were very rapidly corrected (1 week Fedex instead of 14 weeks). some panels misdrilled, but on a hassle scale of 1-10, this is a 1. (who doesn't have a drill) decent amount of extra hardware, which was good Blum stuff (not their top line, but their good stuff). for the more expensive things like hinges, etc, there was usually an extra one in the pack. drawer system was good. needed a little fiddling, but blum undermounts on dovetailed drawers. drawers were prefinished very nicely and all almost perfect. panels all assembled with good confirmats. PZ3 head. rock solid after tightening. Only one Pozidrive#3 bit (Barker, please include more....you don't know how hard it is to find one in BFE....even in lake tahoe area that uses them for ski screws). or better yet, convert all screws to Torx. Also, they're not 100% committed to standard 32mm....my Canadian friend and I noted that the hinges were drilled as 32mm, 35mm back from edge like normal, but shelf holes were drilled in another line. some other things were on custom drilling. but overall, very very happy with everything. My Canadian friend now wants to order kitchen, but the 14weeks is hard. read more

Fantastic quality of Ready to Assemble, semi-custom cabinets. We bought a 100+ year old farmhouse and are working to turn it into a bed and breakfast in SW Virginia. Whatever cabinets were here (only 3 uppers and 3 lowers) were very poor quality and we have been keeping most of our stuff in storage elsewhere. I finally bit the bullet and ordered the uppers and a pantry from Barker Cabinet. I was looking online and needed someone who could easily change the depth of the cabinets. A 24 inch deep base just won't work in this old house in many areas. I found the order process on Barker to be very easy. There is a wait period for the cabinets but that's because they are making yours custom to your specifications. Really, it's no longer than the wait for my 28 inch bifold door from Lowes or my 48 inch Five Star all gas range. Although Barker Cabinets are across the country, the shipping on my order was free, so I figured I would order 1/2 of the kitchen cabinets I needed and see how it went. My husband and I were both nervous about putting together cabinets since neither of us had ever done it before. The videos that are online were extremely useful and I printed out some info as well. I put the boxes together mostly by myself in less than a day. It was very easy and I am confident that they are well-built, not those turn and lock things but actual screws! The only issue I had was that a couple of filler pieces weren't in the order and I didn't know until I had separated everything and checked each piece in. They were very understanding when I emailed them about this and I had the pieces, which had been forgotten in shipping, in a couple of days. I ordered on 7\12\19. 2.5 weeks was lead time on website at that time. Was told by email after the 2.5 weeks had gone by they all were to ship the WEEK of the 12th. On 8/9/19 I received all the cabinet doors and all but two drawer fronts. Packaged very well but two doors damaged very slightly (must have been during manufacturing). Repaired quickly so no issue. Doors although were the same height as ordered were not the correct width (some minus 1/8" so had to trim the drawer front to match). Hinge pocket location on doors were not the same on all the doors. My drawer boxes are still missing in action and was told they would ship this week. I do not feel like they are being dishonest just not organized shipping wise. The shipping details for the packages where very vague. I have no idea what was in each package. There was no packing slip. There no way of knowing what happened to the missing drawer fronts. Odd to me they would be missing from order. Suggestion: Packing list that shows what items are in each shipment so your customer can use the tracking number to follow up instead of emailing you and waiting for an incomplete answer. Would I use them again? If time is an issue (over a month?) or it being predictable lead time then I would say no. 2.5 weeks approximately lead time they said...coming up on 5 weeks now. 2.5 to 3 weeks is normal lead time from the other door manufacturers although I do not think the sanding was as good as Barkers. The sanding on the doors was awesome and they look well put together. Might be a good place for Homeowners to buy from but difficult for Contractors to schedule around this. read more

To anybody looking to upgrade and replace your kitchen cabinets After looking at home depot and lews I also researched different online cabinets retailers , I focused on barker kitchen cabinets main reason is that they offer you a semi custom cabinets size configuration meaning that I could design my kitchen layout and I could order those cabinets as wide as I need as tall as I need and how Deep ,the main problem that everybody have is dealing with storage space every wall kitchen cabinet comes in a standard 12 inches depth I personally find this so annoying I was able to order from barker kitchen cabinets wall cabinets 18 inches deep and it makes a huge difference in storage room , anyway after placing an order on 9/13/12 then within four days I e mailed chad barker to make a few Changes to cabinet sizes I got a prompt response , my cabinets was shipped within Three weeks it was delivered in a crate very well packed easy to Assemble the quality of those cabinets are exceptional very impressive every part was there nothing missing every part was marked for easy assembly Inside and outside of this cabinets amazingly well finished in polyurethane clear coat All the drawes are dovetailed ,tracks that works great ,hinges self closing cabinets doors are solid wood perfect squared all cabinets are very well manufactured I praise mr; chad barker and his company for being honest and producing an exceptional product , I will come back soon to order more kitchen cabinets as I have a two family home here in Brooklyn. We were able to go to the Barker showroom a couple of times and allowed us to eyeball the cabinets in person. Very impressive. Just an FYI... cabinets are drop shipped at the nearest available place in your driveway. Not a Barker deal but make sure you are available to move them inside in case of weather. Saw the complaints on assembly. Watched the videos and realized it was a duh moment as they were very easy to put together. Another note... make sure you have the correct bit for the large screws that hold the cabinets together. They strip easily especially as you try to set them flush to -1/32" for no interference. I probably stripped out a dozen but they included enough screws to do two kitchens. I then bolted several of the cabinets together to form modules prior to install. Helped to keep them level. As it was a remodel, I shot the kitchen with my Bosch laser level, installed the cabinet at the highest point, shimmed the rest to match. My kitchen was off 1/2" and they came out perfect. Another note; mark the studs on the walls so that you can see their location when inside the cabinets screwing them to the wall. There is an opening where the nailing board is so knowing where the stud is makes for a quick install. We ordered cabinets for a built in Sharp microwave drawer and the mixer storage cabinet with lift. Everything fit perfectly. My wife reviewed these guys and it ended up in the not recommended pile. She included pictures. Maybe Chad is onto something... Our experience was awesome and we love the finished product! read more

I have been renovating my townhome myself for a few years and wanted to update the kitchen. The existing cabinets were in good shape with all solid oak frames... but the style was 80's Golden Oak...seriously dated crap. So I decided to replace all of the doors and drawer fronts instead of buying entirely new cabinets. Once I had moved some cabinets, and prepared and painted everything, I began looking at companies who could fill my needs. Barker Door sealed the deal with their reputation and their DIY information links. They explained how to measure and what to do to make an old cabinet new again. My 35+ year old cabinets are now brilliant white with custom Shaker doors and drawer fronts that... in part because of Chad Barker's tutorial on YouTube... now have a clean modern look and perfectly match my new design. Ordering is easy enough for anyone with basic DIY skills. The cost... compared to replacing cabinets with new is amazing. I spent about $800. Compare that to an estimated $5000+ for new cabinets. And that my friends... is a no-brainer. My new doors and drawer fronts came well packaged with no damage, and were EXACTLY what I ordered. I would have loved to have posted some before and after photos... but I'm still not finished with the renovations yet. I remodeled my kitchen using Barker Cabinets and couldn't be happier. The quality is absolutely outstanding, and the ability to customize sizes is exactly what I needed. It's been almost three years and every cabinet, door, drawer, hinge, etc, is still perfectly aligned, even my very heavily loaded pots and pans drawers. There were a few pieces of hardware that they sent the incorrect ones, but they replaced them immediately, not even requiring me to send back the wrong ones. Chad Barker personally handled the situation in short order. I did paint the cabinets myself, so I don't know much about their finishes/painting, but based upon the quality of everything else, I would not hesitate. As for assembly, I would suggest that these be used only by contractors or very experienced DIY-ers... this is not intended to be a quick, "throw it together" thing. There are assembly instructions, but they are not very detailed and you should already have some understanding of cabinets/carpentry; I had no problem assembling them, but I can imagine that a less experienced person would have found it overwhelming. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about Barker, especially given that finding high quality items is so difficult these days. read more

Barker Doors really worked for me. We are doing a modest kitchen remodel, and were originally just going to paint our existing cabinets, doors and all. But a designer friend pointed out just how dated our 70's era doors were (they were pretty ugly), and we decided new doors and drawer fronts were really necessary. I was ordering practically everything else for the kitchen online, and so I pursued an online option for the doors as well and came up with Barker Doors. It seemed a little intimidating, to make all the measurements and hope it would all work out, but the price was just too attractive. The website made it pretty easy and I placed the order for 21 Shaker style doors and 6 drawer fronts. I was prepared for the wait -- the website and reviews are very clear about that -- and they were shipped within the framework given (14-18 business days) and arrived all the way cross country (NJ) as scheduled and in perfect shape. The doors are great! We are having a local painter/carpenter business paint and install them, and they fit and look beautiful, even now with just primer on them. I couldn't be more pleased and as a hard core internet shopper, I can say that these were a true bargain. read more

Our Barker cabinets are fantastic. The look superb and they have the faintest aroma of good fresh wood. No bad smells at all (very important to me). We stumbled across the Barker website during an internet search for cabinet companies. After some time looking at the forums I was able to work out exactly what I needed. Ordering was easy. The order did take some time to arrive however, 10 weeks, but fortunately we were in no hurry. When the order did arrive there two problems. First, a few drawer slides were of the wrong length and second, a board was mis-cut. But the customer support was great. Clayton answered my emails within a few hours and he was fast and courteous and sent new slides right away and a new board (cut and clear coated) within the week. So kudos for the customer service. My credit card was not charged until 3 weeks after the order was placed. There was some sawdust accumulated on some of the panels, but hey, I can deal. I love the cabinets. To sum up, the cabinets are well built, they assembled easily and I am really really happy with them. 5 stars. read more

Would not recommend Barker Door to anyone. The website clearly states a 2.5 week lead time orders but in reality it's closer to 6 weeks. Told them to cancel my order if they could not get done in yet another week and they sent me a nice snippet listed under the warranty section? (of all places) "Barker Door strives for the quickest turnaround time possible by processing and cutting your order almost immediately after it has been submitted. Once the order has been processed and batched, the order cannot be modified, canceled, or added to. This includes combining newer orders with older orders to conserve on shipping cost." Especially lover the part about processing almost immediately, the deception here is that they processed your payment, not that they have processed your order. If I look on the website my order clearly shows processing, which correct if I'm wrong means it has not been processed? Correct? So I don't understand why they won't issue a refund other than they are shady as all get out, as you can tell by the real reviews listed here.. Tread lightly.." read more

I gutted a tiny kitchen and needed custom sized cabinets on a budget. I didn't want to sacrifice quality though. After hours of searching I found Barker Cabinets. There's a saying that goes something like, "You can get quality, speed, or price--pick two." With Barker Cabinets you definitely get quality and price. I had to wait for the cabinets (it took almost two months--cut, painted, shipped), but it was entirely worth the wait. What I got where quality cabinets that look beautiful. They went together easily. Though the very basic instructions didn't help (I have heard there's a helpful YouTube video) it isn't rocket science putting them together. The one problem I had was that a door was damaged during shipping. I snapped a photo and sent out and email. I was surprised to hear back VERY quickly. Chad Barker assured me they'd be sending out a replacement ASAP. Fantastic customer service! I am positive these cabinets will last and will hold up beautifully. I would recommend them to friends and family and will use them again if I need cabinets. read more
