Hello, We had the most professional excellent experience at Building Materials Resources today. I highly recommend them for any of your building and door needs. We were in need of a replacement exterior fire door made by Masonite, and we're at our whits' end trying to locate one locally. After Home Depot and Lowes we searched on Marketplace, and BMR came up in the search. I sent them a request and received an almost immediate response and then made the trip out. We are in Vancouver they are in Sherwood. Believe me, it was worth the drive. The entire staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, walked out with the exact door we needed, and here's the bonus. What a great place to buy lumber! The prices of wood have skyrocketed in the last month for whatever reason. I was able to purchase a sheet of siding for 15 dollars less than Lowe's. Not only are the prices lower here but the customer service is unreal. One of the worker saw me struggling to get 10 sheets into my trailer. On the first sheet he stopped me, got his forklift and moved the pallet of siding to my trailer! If that wasn't enough, he proceeded to load it for me! I am mostly disabled and this was going to be a real issue for me. He saved the day. Didn't even have to ask. read more

People who give this place a poor rating must come from a different universe. The availability and prices of wood products alone is worthy of five stars. Anything but wood might be a crapshoot if you are looking for something specific but it is fun to browse through what they DO have and the select of lumber alone has taken me there many times. read more

After seeing the craigslist ad for their "low" door prices we made a plan to visit the store. Before making the long trip, I called and spoke with a gentleman and inquired as to the availability of a door with 2 sidelights and that it must be pre-hung, he assured me there were many to choose from and even quoted me a price of $800 average including the sidelights and framing it. He also said there was no delivery or install options but we wanted to see the store anyway. So we made a plan to drive the 130 miles, each way to see all the wonderful things they show in the craigslist photo's online. First off, it is not easy to find, we missed the sign the first time as it is behind a cat rescue building. What a disappointment, the sales person directed us to the 1 (yes one) pair of matching sidelights they had with about a dozen or so mismatched ones. Then they said the door would be about $800, another $350 for pre-hung, another $$$$$ for the sidelights, blah blah and so forth coming to more than double the prices from the big box stores. So we go to Jerry's in Eugene on our way back to the beach and we have a door with 2 sidelights ordered in less than 15 minutes for $1100. Very happy with Jerry's. read more

I was having a terrible time trying to purchase a great door at a reasonable price until I started working with Olivia at BMR! Not only did I purchase a couple of exterior hung doors, Olivia gave me the idea to finish the front fiberglass door with stain. I could only find one other person that agreed this method could be successfully completed. I am happy to report that my great door turned into a gorgeous stained door that I am very happy with! If you are building an outbuilding, home or even a fun project like a playhouse for your kid check these guys out first! We built a very large chicken coop and were able to get the door and windows from them and PT ply for the flooring and loft. Also picked up a used sink and some of the other wood required. You may not find everything for your project but what you do find will reduce your costs greatly or you will get more bang for you buck like we did by finding 3/4" PT ply for the cost of 1/2" non-tested ply. We also purchased a wire wheel for our animals to play on. The Meranti they sell has also helped us complete many projects. I use it for trim and rungs on ramps for the chickens. Milking stands wood was all from them. read more

It's totally not worth it to me to save $100 bucks. REVIEW:-------------------------------------- PRICE: Meh - I found prices to be cheaper, but the savings are not that much. You're saving maybe 20% but you have to deal with bad service, no delivery, poor selection, long drive, not the best boards (they all have some sort of character) SERVICE: Terrible - I called to inquiry about something I was unfamiliar with. The guy on the phone told me "Read the whole ad before calling. I am very busy". Than hangs up. I was thinking - maybe they get phone calls all day and they are very busy. When I got there, they were not busy. A customer was waiting at the counter and I was behind him. He was trying to get help - We can totally see 3 employees sitting in the back chilling and not caring to even acknowledge us. Me and the guy just looked at each other and kinda shrugged. I waited 10mins before I left because no one was even bothering acknowledging us. GOOD FOR: I think its good for people who are doing small projects. Like a bird house or garden boxes. I can't believe there aren't already reviews for this place! I guess that's because everyone who shops there is too busy building awesome things with their finds. I've been going here a few years, and they have everything...old and new things, building supplies, lumber, light fixtures, trim, tiles, sinks, doors, windows, plus a whole lot of quirky fun things to look at or take home and upcycle. The prices are way better than Home Depot type stores, the service amazing, and the selection impressive. Check it out, and write a nice review. Daniel and his crew deserve it. read more

TLDR: the door hanging service at BMR is terrible. I purchased doors and had them hung by BMR. One door was a custom size and purchased new and fully framed from the vendor so I have a comparison of the quality you get from a new door framing vs what BMR does. The general quality of cuts is awful. The the door relief cut is out of strait by as much as 1/16. The hinge cuts are uneven depth and edges are frayed from a router that is clearly not tight. The screws are not installed strait and look terrible. One door hinge side had clearly been mounted the wrong direction to they just trimmed it down again and made the door a 1/8th smaller. WTF The frame gap around the door on the new door was about 1/16. The BMR framed doors ranged from 1/8 to 3/16. The frame material of the new door was smooth and the BMR were done with low quality joined pine which will need filling. I was clearly not happy about these things when I picked them up and made the employee fix one issue with the doors, but they have a "no returns for any reason" policy, so there was not much I could do. I just installed the doors and had to adjust several hinge locations to get them to hang strait. The final straw was looking at my last door to install the door handle and realizing that the relief cut in the WRONG F*#$(*&g DIRECTION. It looks just terrible with the latch clearly visible from the room. I will either have to cut the door down and rehang it or just buy a door from a real manufacturer. I've purchased plenty of things from BMR in the past while I built my own house, but I am done with them. If you want to see the pictures, look at my google review. read more

I give it two stars because it has a variety and some fun old stuff. I also give it two stars because I bought some boards here a couple of years ago and paid $5 per board. Went there yesterday to get a couple more and that same board would now cost me almost $18! No way! I've noticed prices creeping up but that's obscene. I'll stick with Rebuilding Center in NE PDX or Home Depot/Lowes. read more

I'm not sure why all the bad ratings? I have shopped here 2x now, both for replacing a deck in my backyard. The guy in the lumber area was friendly and helpful and the guy at the register was very pleasant. After going to HD to price lumber for the job it would be $3300. Here at BMR I spent just over $900 (I did purchase some items at HD that were not available here totaling $304). So for $1200 in materials I was able to replace my deck, opposed to $3300. The cedar boards are not as "perfect" as HD boards but I would rather save the $2100 difference. I would definitely return for future jobs. read more

Updated review after 8 trips to BMR: On our first trip here we had terrible customer service with the women but now since we've been here many times I need to correct it that!! We have had amazing help from one lady in particular who's helped order many doors for us. We ordered our front entry door and 4 interior doors here as well as buying all of our trim and deck railing material here. Many many hours were spent here and we always felt welcomed, unlike the first time! So if you had a bad experience like some said try again! An older gentleman here was super friendly and a jokester and great at answering our many questions. They went out of their way to help us find what we were looking for while being conscious of our budget and showing the many options. I can't wait to come back here and explore at a later date when we need more doors and material for our next project:-) read more

Everything started out great with very helpful staff and good prices on a door for a remodel. I paid Building Material Resource to have the door hung and bored for a Schlage lockset. I gave them the lockset so that it would be properly bored and mortised for the latch and strike plate. After installing & painting the door, I proceeded to install the lockset only to find one of the bore holes was too small and all four of the latch/strike plates were not mortised deep and big enough to fit the plates. Shame on me for not checking this when I picked up the door. I talked to the Daniel, the owner of Building Material Resource about the job. He said 'we have taken about 30 of these (doors) to have bored and mortised and have not had a problem. All you have to do is chisel and rebore. I told him I expect a job to be done correctly if I pay someone to do it. His answer was 'maybe you should take it to Home Depot next time'. Yes I will and would recommend others do the same. Unfortunately they get a generous one star for attitude, helpfulness and very poor customer service. As you can guess, I cannot recommend this business to anyone. read more
