I just found out that the original Barking Bad was purchased and reopened. I dropped Astro (boxer pit mix) and Jenny (BorderCollieBlueHeeler) at 7:30 this morning in the able and loving arms of Chris. They were finished and ready for pickup by 9:30. My dogs were so calm and CLEAN when I retrieved them...I was shocked! Astro can bark...bad. I highly recommend this groomer. I'm very satisfied and happy to have rediscovered them. 11/16/22 - The previous people who ran the shop were far superior to current management. They didn't return calls and made conflicting appointments with me. When I brought my cat in for grooming today it was one of the worst customer experiences of my life. Right from the start the groomer in charge did not seem to enjoy her job. She told me "when he's done I'm done" and spent the entire time telling me how she refuses to get scratched or bitten. As soon as my cat expressed unhappiness with being groomed (very common) she just stopped what she was doing and said "that's it, I'm done, it's not worth getting scratched." I suggested maybe a pair of gloves? It seems like a poor career choice for someone who is afraid of getting injured by an animal. She did such a poor job she didn't charge me. This was my favorite groomer in town but now I can't imagine ever going back. Avoid at all costs. read more

Cool name, unprofessional business. I had an appointment at 10am. No pick up time given. Just one girl couldn't remember my dog's name . Kept my dog for 6 hours for a basic wash. They keep the dogs in windowless boxes. Its not very clean. My dog was clean but it seems they cut some hair, which I specifically said not to. He has a weird spot which appears to be cut on his head. Overall, find someone else. $80 for a bath is a bit much read more

We went back to Barking Bad (now Dawg Gone Good) grooming because the groomer Tanya had done a good job 18 months ago with our late Sheltie Buzz and before that with our late Berner Daisy. It was time for our young 23 pound Sheltie Jessie's first grooming. We were given an estimate of $55 for bath, nail trim, teeth clean, matt trimming behind the ears and trimming private areas. Tanya said that with a 2PM dropoff, Jessie would be done by 5pm or 5:30 at the latest. *Poor Communication* It was difficult to communicate with Tanya - she didn't pick up her phone to talk when called, and wasn't very responsive with text messages. When we arrived at Tanya's location on San Antonio Road at 1:45 - she's sharing space with Groomingdales, but isn't otherwise affiliated - we were unable to reach her via voice or text at either of two phone numbers. When a Groomingdales staff member came out for another client, she asked if we were waiting for Tanya, and went back to get her. When she came out, Tanya told me it might take a little longer than she'd previously said. *Poor Care* Tanya walked into Groomingdales with Jessie at 2pm. At 4:55pm I received a text stating Jessie would need to be rebathed and redried because she'd pooped "in the slow blow". It took Tanya another 15 minutes to respond to my reply asking when Jessie would be ready and requesting the cost. She replied with a vague "It's going to be awhile" and $65 for cost. I again texted requesting if we should hold off on dinner or if it would be before 6pm. She replied it would be after six for sure. She'd had Jessie since 2pm - over 4 hours for a small 23 pound dog. Finally when I texted again for a more exact latest estimate, she called me back after a few minutes. I told her we'd be by in 15 minutes to pick Jessie up, and we'd dry her ourselves. *Unprofessional Behavior* When we arrived, Tanya brought Jessie out. There were a number of unmasked small children and unmasked male guardian with them running around the entrance. There seemed to be some relationship between them and Tanya, as she said one of the kids could come in to go to the bathroom. I paid, got in the car with a clean, mostly dry but stressed and panting Jessie, and my wife drove us home. *Work Not Done* On the way home, I found a matt behind one of Jessie's ears. For a couple days after grooming, Jessie had a problem with diarrhea and soiled herself. In cleaning her, we didn't detect any trimming around her anus or private areas. *Summary* OK, let's summarize. We were charged too much for a bath and brush plus removal of dead fur. Behind the ear dematting wasn't completed and private area trimming wasn't done, even though it was previously agreed to. This was after Jessie was there over four hours, some of the time apparently unsupervised judging from Jessie pooping on herself and needing to be rebathed. (Jessie has been toilet-trained with no accidents for many months now.) Tanya was unprofessional in her conduct, very difficult to reach in a timely fashion. We will NEVER return to her again. I suggest you stay away as well. read more

Brought my Golden Retriever in for a trim. She usually has long beautiful fur, and has never had any problems at the groomer. Was extremely disappointed when her entire body was shaved down to her skin. Called the groomer to express my concern, and he had no education on why Golden Retrievers can't be shaved. We will not be able to take my dog outside during the hot summer heat as she is at risk for sunburns and sores. There is also a risk that her fur will not grow back evenly or as full as before. I was super happy with the service I got here!! I took in my dog last min for a clean up. He was so dirty from playing in some mud from a rainstorm the night before and was covered in dirt! Barking Bad came up for me in a search while staying near the airport on my road trip across country. My beagle was especially dirty from traveling the interstates. I decided to just drop in (rude of me, honestly) and see if they could fit him in. They were so nice and accommodating and were able. Incredibly friendly people there and I am so appreciative that they could get him bathed and nails trimmed on such short notice. I had some pretty bad separation anxiety myself (being so far away from our normal habitat) but these are definitely people you can trust with your good boys and girls. I don't know if they can always just take a new client off the street like that (don't be like me, call ahead - it's just courteous) but I am very grateful that they could do it for us today. I'm terrible with names but I believe the man's name is Alex (judging by the text I got letting me know my doggo was ready), and I want to mention how great his customer service skills are. I leave Bob, my dog with her and had a great lunch at Scalo Northern Italian Grill, which I highly recommend. I took my Dog, Iris, in for general grooming and recommendations on she's control. I didn't really have much hope that it would make a huge difference but after meeting Alex & the team at Barking Bad, I changed my mind. Clean ears, clean teeth, clean everything! They did a great job!! Alex recommended a reverse shave to control shedding. With fair warning I was worried that she would look silly shaved, as I understand can sometimes happen but, she looks GREAT!!! I've never gotten my pup groomed before. She's a little chihuahua mix, she really doesn't need to be professionally groomed... but her nails were getting long, and I couldn't bring myself to cut them. Having just moved to Albuquerque, I started looking for groomers, and decided to give Barking Bad a try. Because, well, it was 5 minutes away and I'm a huge Breaking Bad fan and couldn't resist the name. I called for an appointment, and it was somewhat hard to understand what was being said just because of the echo-y and dogs in the background, but it got booked with no problems. I received a reminder/confirmation text from Lindsey the day before as well. I dropped Sunny off, and Lindsey made sure to ask questions and went over everything she would be doing for Sunny, especially seeing as it was her first time getting groomed. She ended up getting a bath, teeth brushed, ears cleaned, a de-shedding treatment (which has been A GODSEND, for real, thank you, girl), anal glands expressed, and even a complimentary blueberry facial. I think Sunny had a better spa day than I usually have! Lindsey was great with the pups, and texted me about 15 minutes before Sunny was ready to get picked up so I could head over there. She was extremely responsive to the texts. They even gave Sunny a cute little bow to wear on her harness! I tried to get a good pic of it, but 13 month old pups don't tend to sit still very long. The place was a little hard to find, and they had way too many doors (ha, ha, I tried like 4 different ones before finally picking the right one). But it's smack in the middle of Nob Hill, so plenty to walk around and explore and eat/drink while your pup is getting groomed. I thought their prices were extremely fair, and Sunny seemed to have a good time (considering). I will definitely be going back to Barking Bad next time Sunny needs a spa day! read more

If you have a long haired dog I would not recommend taking it to this groomer. They do not know how to cut or trim long haired dogs. I took my long haired dog in and said I needed a bath and a trim. I told him we like his long hair we just want it trimmed which equated to him saying "I'm thought you wanted us to shave him like a bush" which is exactly what he said when I picked up my dog. I am not sure how trim equated to shave. I guess I should have heeded the warning have another long-haired dog review that said they they did the same thing. so this was not the first time for this groomer. I went home and found videos of how to groom my long haired dog so I never have to take it to another groomer! I feel that I should send these videos to them so they can learn how to trim long haired dogs. You never shave them you cut them with scissors. His hair is never going to grow back the same as it was because it ruins their hair when you shave them! read more

I met Tanya back when she was at Pepe La Paws which is now closed. I was a bit flustered and unsure what my lab needed as far as grooming needs go as my shadow was my very first dog. Tanya was a god send with her knowledge on grooming. I complained to her time and time again about all the shedding my dog did and how my whole life was just full of dog hair. When she moved to barking bad I was convinced to try the back/reverse shaving on my black Labrador retriever. I honestly thought she was going to look like a naked poodle. But honestly she came out beautiful, I joke with my fiancé and tell him how she's like him in terms of when he gets a fade. That's how the dog comes out feeling, nice and smooth. The only noticeable difference is that her glossy shines is less than usual. But I loved almost two months without her hair polluting my life. It is the most glorious thing ever. The only downside is that Tanya is further from me now so it's a bit of a ride. But that doesn't matter as I don't plan to stop seeing her. My dog is a nervous nelly and is always flying off tables and is scared of water. Tanya is the only one who has the patience and care to groom her. Barking Bad earned my Five Star rating fir the following five reasons: 1) My dog and I Like the shop. My dog likes going to Barking Bad and so do do I. My dog will not enter certain grooming shops where she may have had bad experiences like her nails being clipped too closely. Barking Bad takes very good care of my dog and uses a dremel as opposed to clipping nails like some shops do. I like Barking Bad because it's very clean and my dog seems happy there. 2) it's Locally owned and managed with multiple groomers yet not a large chain. I like that it's big enough to employ multiple groomers so I know that I'm not depending on one persons personal schedule and that my appointments will not be rescheduled as seems to happen in sole proprietorships or smaller shops. I also like that BB is not a large chain like PetCo that stacks their appointments . 3) I love the location in Nob Hill! While my dog is being groomed and taken care of I can go to local breweries cafes and galleries. 4) They give back to the Community. Barking offers full scholarships to challenges and underprivileged people abs trains them to be able to feel a sense of ownership and gain skills that lead them to have a vocational career track and be self sufficient. The groomers all make a decent wage and have flexible work schedules. They all seem happy in their careers. 5) They offer a good value. I'm ok with paying a fair fee and fully understand that dog groomers are underpaid relative to the work that they do ans the tine it takes per dog. Barking Bad charges the going rate and does not up charge just bc they're in Nob Hill. I always tip well bc I know how much work they do and how much my dog enjoys all the groomers at BB! My dig and I have been going to Barking Bad for over 4 years now since she was a puppy and I highly recommend them to anyone in Abq. read more

I have brought my dog in for a few groomings and nail-grindings. The services are reasonably priced, the staff is friendly, and I've been satisfied with the quality of work. They're much better than those big box stores! But, I gave 3/5 stars for a few little things that kind of add up: -There's no open/closed sign on the door, which is always locked so people don't open it and accidentally let a dog out (I understand that). But, you can't see in the window to see if anyone is there. So you're left awkwardly knocking for a few minutes and trying to peek through the dark glass. -No where to sit while you're waiting -They use a card payment system which requires you to press "no tip" several times to shame you into leaving a tip. When I'm already paying $30-$40 per hour for a service, a tip is not required and shouldn't be expected. I think it is tacky and a bit rude to do that, so I've started going elsewhere. read more

I have only recently moved to Albuquerque from Boston. Rocco had a great groomer that we both loved. I checked out the local groomers and Barking Bad has the best rating of anyone in the city so I thought I would give them a try. Barking Bad exceeds the praise that I have seen heaped on them on Yelp. Rocco is a good boy, and has always been good with groomers, but he is a big boy, so I brought him over to Barking Bad so they could meet him before I made an appointment. We met Alex and set things up for my boy to get a bath and have his nails trimmed. I dropped him off yesterday afternoon and a hour later got a text that I could pick the big guy up. Alex let me know that Rocco had been no trouble and also took the time to let me know that Rocco, who is getting up there for a mastiff is starting to have a hard time standing up for long periods. Alex seemed reassured when I let him know that I already have a vet appointment scheduled for the beginning of next month. Rocco looks and smells much better than he did, and I can also state that his nails looked better trimmed than they have in years. It was very reassuring to know that I can trust my older guy to a responsible groomer and that if Barking Bad notices anything worrying that they will not hesitate to bring it to my attention. I went to get my little elderly chihuahua's nails cut and they were so great! My dog is very squirmy and they took the time to sit down, make sure she was comfortable, and pet her until she was calm to start cutting her nails again. She was incredibly kind with my dog and patient. She even explained to me why she had to file my dogs nails instead of clipping them- because clipping them would push the nail fractures (if I'm remembering correctly) back into her cuticles, hurting my dog, and potentially ending in costly vet bills. They showed a genuine interest and care for my little old dog and they were incredibly polite to me. I recommend 100%! read more
