Have been using Barkingham for 10 yrs. Since new ownership customer service has declined immensely. My dogs did not get one of their meals, their nails did not get trimmed during their bath and now they want you to tip. We use to bring our food in a bin, now you have to bag your food for every meal. Asked to have our bags back, they through them away. Needless to say we will be using someone else to watch our guys. read more

I am so disappointed with Barkingham Palace and will NOT EVER take my cat to them again. They present themselves as trustworthy and reliable cat sitters which they fail at horribly. 1) I was told to bring my own cat food - which wasn't touched. My cat came home very hungry and especially very THIRSTY. I did not see any water in his very tiny room. 2) I was told to provide feeding instructions which were completely ignored. 3) At checkout my cat had been paired with my sister's cat. There was much confusion as to where my cat was and where my sister's cat was. 4) I was told there would be play time which I really questioned. 5) My sister's cat came home with a nasty sore and had to be taken to a vet. My poor cat had to endure 5 days at this place. I don't want to think how bad it was for him. NEVER AGAIN. read more

I would not recommend Barkingham Palace. The process started out very well. We were moving to Marble Falls, and in preparation we began to email. The owner was very communicative and responsive. Upon setting an appointment, we showed up and the check in was thorough, and everyone was very nice. Additionally, they offered a tour, and everything looked great. Fast forward to our pickup, 9 days later. We were asked to pick up after 2 o'clock since we had requested a bath. My wife showed up at 230 to pick up the dogs. It was chaotic with other guests, and after paying my wife went outside. At that point, she recognized our smaller dog's eye was almost swollen shut. Additionally, both dogs were dirty. She went back inside to determine what had happened. They were unaware of ever seeing it, said it if was a trauma it was from our other dog, and to them it looked like allergies. However, once again, they had zero clue when the problem began, never noticed it, and suggested we find a vet. Additionally, the owner became very animated yelling for the staff to get a camera to document the dog's eye. After discussing the eye, it was mentioned the dogs were dirty. We were told that was not possible. When pressed, the groomer was called in and indicated they were told to bath the day before. Additionally, the owner went outside to our car to truly make sure the dogs were dirty. She agreed and reluctantly offered to refund the bath. Our late afternoon involved calling veterinarians in the area to get our dog in. We were able to find a vet an hour and a half away, and made the journey, barely making closing. Upon examination, no trauma was found to the eye. Through taking a slide and evaluation under a microscope it was found the eye was swollen due a staph infection and would have been evident on the dog's eye for more than a day. We are long time pet owners, and we know things happen. However, here are the things that are not acceptable. 1. The dogs were not adequately looked at daily. 2. The vet indicated the staff infection would be a result of inadequate cleaning. 3. When presented with the situation, zero empathy was demonstrated, and the owner wanted to fight about every point. 4. When a new client left, after paying a large bill, with a sick dog, crying you would expect a call. Zero follow up occurred from the kennel. Of course, we will not be back. read more

We will NEVER board our cat at Barkingham again, and thankfully he only stayed 4 nights. Here is the list: 1) When we went back to the "condo" to get him, I noticed vomit in the back corner of the room that was dried and had obviously been there for some time. 2) When we picked him up, he had a large, oozing sore on his upper right leg at the neck. When the man handed him to me, he said "Did you know about this?" My question was, "Why didn't you?" The next day when we took him to the vet, he was running a temperature and the sore was quite infected. After an antibiotic injection and something for his temperature, we brought him home to keep him in for seven days. 3) We were told that we could bring his own food with feeding instructions, which we did. The food that was in the bowl when we picked him up, however, was not what we had provided. When they returned our food, none of it had been used. It was clear that they had not wanted to bother with his feeding schedule, and had simply filled his bowl with theirs, hence the vomit. 4) When we arrived home, our cat was starving and extremely thirsty; and could not seem to get enough to eat or drink. If there was less than 1 star, I would have used it. Trust me, Barkingham is NO Palace!!! read more

WARNING!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO BARKINGHAM PALACE IN MARBLE FALLS, TX! I took my 3 miniature schnauzers to be boarded from noon on Friday 1/23 to mid-afternoon on Sunday, 10/25. While dropping them off, I double checked that they each had their correct collars with their name on them, and showed the name tags to the attendant. I also told her that if for some reason their collars came off, that they could be identified by their microchips. She and the woman entering information on the computer verbally acknowledged the ways to identify each dog. Rita, my 7 year old female, is DIABETIC and takes 8 units of Insulin twice a day, as well as a human antidepressant to prevent urine leakage. Belle, my 12 year old female is EPILEPTIC and has liver cysts. She has been on Phenobarbital twice a day for 10 years to prevent seizures. She also takes 2 prescriptions to keep her bile thin to prevent liver failure. Rita's diabetes and Belle's Epilepsy were completely under control when I took them to Barkingham Palace. Since my dogs are on prescription food, I did as Barkingham's website suggested, and pre-packaged each meal for each dog, very clearly labeled. I also gave specific verbal and handwritten instructions to the 2 attendants. Each dog was to be fed twice a day - 1 pre-packaged and clearly labeled ziplock of dry food mixed with 1/3 can of the RX food. All medications were clearly labeled with specific instructions. I also gave clear, specific instructions verbally, as well as handwritten, to both attendants. They were also provided with 3 telephone numbers where I could be reached with any problems or questions. When I picked my dogs up on Sunday afternoon, I asked how everything went. They said "Rita" would not eat, so they finally gave her a couple spoonfuls of canned food before giving her insulin each time. Rita always eats well, but I had verbally and in writing told them that BELLE might not eat well. ALARM!! I asked them which dog they gave the insulin to, and they said "the small dark on". Belle is the small dark one!! Upon further questioning, I found that they had taken their identifying collars off as soon as the put them in the kennel and never wrote down any identifying descriptions of the dogs. Both females were listed as "salt and pepper females". They gave Rita, my diabetic dog, 4 doses of Phenobarbital and 4 doses of liver medication, but NO INSULIN! They gave Belle, the epileptic, 8 units of Insulin twice a day, with very little food, and NO PHENOBARBITAL or liver medications! They did NOT mix the canned food with the dry food at any meal, so at best, each dog received only HALF as much food as they needed. The unopened cans were returned to me! When they brought my dogs out to me, Rita was dripping from head to toe with urine! The guy behind the counter said "oh, that's water". It was clearly urine and was flowing out of her urethra! When we got the dogs home, Rita's blood sugar registered "high" on the meter, which means it was over 600! She was trembling and clearly very ill. Belle's blood sugar was 60, and she was weak and trembling. I have no way of knowing how many seizures she may have had while at Barkingham Palace, but she was most certainly in withdrawal - wobbly and lethargic. I can only imagine the torture my poor dogs were feeling. We have stabilized Belle, and hopefully, she did not suffer damage from her blood sugar being too low to support her organs. Rita had to be taken in as an Emergency to the vet for IF fluids and Insulin. She remains in an unstable condition at the vet, receiving IV fluids and blood glucose monitoring. She has so much fat in her blood from trying to survive without insulin, that the equipment is unable to run her blood chemistry to see what other damage has been done to her little body. She is also at very high risk for Pancreatitis, which can be fatal, due to the high amount of fat in her blood. Both females lost weight. All of this damage to my dogs happened in just over 50 hours at Barkingham Palace. If they had been there any longer, they likely would have died! read more

The staff is always wonderful and our dogs receive great care. We have used them for many years and it has always been a good experience. The owners live onsite and are very attentive. Also if you need training they offer this service. If you want extra play time or extra accommodations they will do it. They are a good place if you need to board your animals. read more

Barkingham is a great place if you need someone to watch your puppers for you. They allowed us to bring our senior dog his food and made sure he got his medication. They even gave him a bath before we picked him up (it was requested) our furbaby will be spending next week with them again as we travel. We have taken our boxer to barkingham palace at least five-six times throughout the last year since we moved to the LBJ area. The couple is super sweet and they are very knowledgeable about dogs. We have felt very comfortable leaving our Bella with them, and have had no concerns at all. She seems excited to go every single time. They have even giving me tips on training her, which have been greatly appreciated.After having read the two negative reviews, I can't help but wonder why someone with outrageously ill dogs would kennel them anywhere... I would never leave extremely high needs dogs with anyone except a highly qualified veterinarian. We are going to leave her tomorrow, in fact, and feel very confident. read more

I have boarded my dogs here on two separate occasions. Today I was picking up my three dogs and it was 835am, the gate was closed. I saw one of the owners come out and jump in the ATV and start driving. Since I wasn't sure if he saw me or not I tapped the horn. He came to the gate with extreme attitude to the point that I had to tell him to step away from the car. He hesitated an inappropriate amount of time before stepping back. This is not the first time I have experienced rude behavior at this establishment but I can guarantee it will be the last. I don't believe they like what they do. read more

I live on the road of barkingham palace for two years now. In the two years I have seen two dogs out with the staff. It appears that the dogs that are housed there never get out of there pen. I would think in two years And all the seasons of weather, with the beautiful space they have, somebody would care enough to let the animals run a bit each day. If you are OK with your pets staying in a cage the entire time than this place may be OK, but not from my animal. read more

I went there a few times with no problems. I called to get my two dogs in in a emergency run up to Oklahoma after a tornado. I was told when I got there their was a small cough going around but not to worry it nothing. When I got home my old dog had a very bad cough. I took him to the vet to find he had Bordetella. We moved to this area in June...had been taking our dogs to the same boarding facility for many years where they knew us well and understood: our dogs are our family! We visited several places in this area and after meeting with the owner and touring the facility, we chose Barkingham Palace for our boarding needs. This past week we used them for the first time...of course we were a bit worried but let me tell you all that went away when we meet the young man who checked us in...he was very focused on getting all our instructions into the system...he wanted to get it right! We drive from Austin to Marble Falls to board our 2 pitbulls at Barkingham when we have to go out of town because they don't breed discriminate. Our dogs love going there and we know the friendly, knowledgable, professional staff will take good care of them in our absence. Their facility is very clean and they have everything you could think of to make your pet comfortable! We appreciate Barkingham Palace very much and they will continue to be our dog's home-away-from-home!! read more

The worker that I talked to was very unprofessional. She called me to inform me I could not board two out of three of my dogs there because of them missing some vaccines. I understood and told her to still keep my reservation for my other dog she said she could board. She then called me back to tell me "I would be happier if I could keep all my animals together and to try some one else in town". I asked to keep my reservation for my dog and she refused to take her after telling me that was her call. This place was very unprofessional and rude. I WOULD NOT LEAVE MY DOGS THERE and WILL NOT BE EVER CALLING THEM BACK. Now I have to make other reservations when I'm leaving town in three days. read more

This is the most awesome place ever!! I tried several different training facilities that had awesome ratings but turned out to be horrible. I know I sure did not want to walk around smelling like a hot dog just to get my dog to come to me. Chuck and his staff are amazing they are always available to give advise over the phone and in person. We selected to put Sarge into the inboard training and my 6 month old German Shepherd came back as a well behaved member of the family. My husband and I were so shocked in the difference and we continue to go for additional training. I could write a book of all the positive experiences Sarge and I have had with Chuck but you just need to go out and see for your self!!! Sarge clearly bonded with Chuck in the DVD that Chuck sends home with you Sarge is loving on him and continues to get excited when he realizes where were at!!! read more
