I've been a loyal customer of A to Z Dog Ranch for a long time, but my recent experiences have been incredibly disappointing. The owner spoke to me in a rude and aggressive tone over a simple issue that could have been resolved professionally. Her claim she has given "many free things," is unfounded. She once changed my dog's food without my approval, then charged me for it, that wasn't free, and then left a voicemail calling my dog by the wrong name. How can she claim to know my dog's history if she doesn't even know her name? My suggestions get your story straight before calling. Unfortunately, I've heard similar complaints in the community and they have moved their business elsewhere due to her, the owner, Wendee, disrespectful behavior, which seems to be a pattern. In my opinion, there are other companies that provide better service, more flexible pick-up and drop-off times, and a kinder approach. I can now book flights that fit my budget and choose a care provider that values me and my pet. It's clear there are more affordable and reliable options out there for your best friends, and I'm relieved to no longer deal with the unprofessionalism at A to Z Dog Ranch. Happy trails! read more

If you need to board your dog, I would strongly suggest that you take the drive out to Spicewood and check these digs out. Yes, it is a little bit of a drive, but it is quick and pretty - and probably worth it. Before boarding, Wendee will have you bring your dog(s) for "pack play" to make sure they get along with other dogs. Our appointment took about 30 minutes for this. During this time, she also shows you around the ranch. Pro's: - Wendee is an **excellent** communicator via email and phone, and this works well with my busy schedule. - She is a true pet lover and also seems very knowledgeable. She seemed to pay close attention to their idiosyncrasy's as she mentioned how she saw certain behaviors in my dogs that I know they exhibit. - She also has staff that helps out. Your dog has personalized (not to mention supervised) attention. - If there is time and you ask, she might send you a photo of your pet having a great time! - The prices are in-line with other boarding options, however I would say that they are cheaper than *comparable* boarding establishments. - (right now at least) if you mention Yelp you get $15 off the service - The dog(s) will inevitably get dirty, so I was happy to see that the "Ranch Bath" was a deal at $10/dog. Con's: - (I am stretching here): but one of my dogs came back with a little gash on him - presumably from rough housing with one of the other dogs. We are totally OK with this, as we let our dogs play freely at dog parks, etc. So this can happen from time to time, and I guess it might be something you have to be prepared for. The upside of the A to Z Dog Ranch is that the dogs aren't kept in their kennels all day and that they are given time to play with other dogs. If you want your dog to sit in a cage all day and have no interaction, this may not be the place for you. Listen, you probably feel guilty enough having to board your dog. I'm willing to bet that after you visit the dog ranch, that guilt will mostly go away. I suspect that if dogs could talk, they would be asking when the next time you are leaving town is - so that they can go back to the ranch. read more

I can't say enough great things about A to Z. We brought our rescue pup there a month ago - shy and anxious. She immediately took to the dog-friendly crew and loved every minute of her time there. Over the past month she has changed from an anxious, shy dog to a confident happy dog and can't wait to see the crew at A to Z. I love that she isn't stuck in a kennel or in a room with barking dogs. It was out first time to board our almost 7 year old Bernese Mountain Dog. We tried them out a few months prior to an extended trip that didn't allow our beloved to travel along with us, so we tried the doggie-daycare first. It went fabulously. I got the "bye Mom" treatment when we arrived the second time. (In a previous city location we dragged him in for a play-day. He seemed so nervous, then we said, "no thanks", and left.) He had a fantastic time during his 16-day stay. The door to door service was really appreciated. You don't have to make the trip to Spicewood and it is well worth the additional fee. Occasional updates from the doggie-dude ranch was a nice treat for us. I would highly recommend Wendee and her staff. For me, the "bye Mom" treatment is what you want. read more

MY FUR BABY LOVES THE RANCH!!! As soon as we turn on RO drive Chloe starts her wiggle booty! She loves Aunt Wendee and the ranch crew (I think her favorite right now is Hank). She is always worn out when she gets home which for me is a good thing because she can be a handful! We love this place and so does our dog! When we pull up to board he's so excited his tail starts going so fast his butt can't keep up. If he's being picked up at our house to go there he can't get to the gate fast enough, especially if Wrangler Jason is getting him. I love how they work with the dogs and keep them in the different groups. Our dog is not good with little dogs and has a lot of energy so he runs with a group similar to him. It's nice he's not set up to fail or get in trouble. The yard they are in is really great with hills, rocks, trees and a creek. Everything is very clean and organized compared to other kennels we looked at. We had boarded our dog at a different kennel on 71, that had good reviews and was recommended by friends but it turned out he was on a run inside all day and he was lethargic when we picked him up. They had given him sedatives without our permission. Finding AtoZ has been such a blessing. We never worry about him when he's in their care. They are strict on their policies but it doesn't bother us. We read them before we decided to bring our dog and have no issues following them. read more

Can't say enough good things about A to Z. We had boarded with someone else but feared they weren't getting enough exercise and were just sitting in a crate for 20 hours a day. Not the issue with A to Z. If anything our dogs need a day or two of sleeping to recover from all the fun they had at the ranch. The entire process from eval to boarding was smooth and painless. Extremely disappointed in this place for being completely unaccommodating. I'm getting married March 21 and need a place for my two amazing dogs for a couple days. Heard this place was legit, so I scheduled them to stay. A-Z makes you do a test run ($10) where you basically bring your dog(s) out to see the property, see how they interact, etc. Makes sense...long drive from Austin (45 min), but ultimately fine overall. Today was my visit and I had a company emergency so I couldn't make it. Emergencies happen. Not my fault. Soooo...I let Wendee know thinking I can swing em by this weekend and she emails me back saying she can't set up another appt for 2.5 weeks, and therefore my dogs can't stay there while I am at my wedding in FL. So wait...you don't have time to walk a dog around your property for 10 minutes? Net net, had to cancel my dogs' stay and now I'm forced to scramble around to find another place. Lost customer. Bad Yelp review. Bad experience. Thanks A-Z...for nothing. Your quirky references to humans and canines don't make up for your lack of simple accommodation. We love the ranch! I've toured many "kennels" and never found a place I thought my dog would love. I'm fairly sure my usually shy dog did not want to come home from A to Z dog ranch. The staff was so nice. I was shocked when I picked her up that the staff was able to give me a detailed account of her stay. They knew and remembered the days with my dog. This really tells me that these people love dogs. Wendee and David have really put their lives (and blood, sweat, and tears, too - I'm sure) into making The Ranch a great place for your pets. Why? Because they want to. Because they enjoy it. They aren't just working for a paycheck, and when it comes to family pets, what more could you want? I trust my dog to A to Z completely. I love, Love, LOVE this place. We took our dog, Bob, here only two weeks after we adopted him (we went on vacation). I was worried at first, since he was new to our family and wasn't away from us. Let me just say this, the dog actually became more obedient and better socialized after we picked him up a week later. I'm not sure what Wendee did or the magic formula or aura which surrounds this great place, but I wanna go! Bob and Chuck will be going back. My only regret is that I wish it was closer to us, but I will definitely make the drive just to make my boys happy...and happy they are! They have plenty of room to roam and play and it's well organized, clean and accommodating for any dog of any size with most any personality. I have seen many a doggie daycare and my 2 older dogs have adjusted to each new place/new pack as needed in recent years. But A to Z is my idea of what dogs playing SHOULD BE. Room to roam, a safe and clean environment, lots of dogs to play with, humans to love (and supervise when necessary), and fresh air! I love this place so much I want to go hang out there (and have)! I cannot say enough good things about owner Wendee, her contractor husband David, her always dirty but smiling staff (remember, dogs are playing here - humans will get dirty too), and her own pack Addie,Nala,Zeta,Echo, and lovey boy Parker. Plus, Wendee usually has a foster or two that I must meet. My dogs, now 3 of them, look forward to their Saturday play days at A to Z. And many photos confirm it - they each get to do what they love best. Cody (age 5) patrols the perimeter, Zella (age 4) finds the nearest ball or nearest dog with a ball, and Finn (8mos) finds his playmate for the day. Poor customer service. First we had to schedule an evaluation 3 weeks in advance because their times are not accommodating. The paperwork slipped my mind, and instead of giving a quick phone call or sending an email reminder they canceled the evaluation 2 days in advance. I do realize this was in the email they originally sent, but a reminder email is just as easy to send as a cancellation. They clearly do not need new business and act as such. read more

Wow -- you think you've seen great dog daycare/ boarding, then you try A to Z Dog Ranch and realize what you've been missing. In all aspects (staff, service, facilities, etc) it exceeds expectations. Over the past few years, we've sporadically boarded 3 dogs with them. One has daily meds for some health issues, another is older, and the third can be a handful on his own. But, we can rest assured that they're taken care of at the ranch. Even if you have to do a bit of a drive to get there, A to Z Dog Ranch is definitely worth it. read more

I just moved to the area, and I visited a lot of local daycares out here. Some of them are pretty good, but this place is by far the best! Wendee is awesome! My puppy can be a little on the shy side and they were really careful to make it a positive experience for him. A couple of weeks in and he absolutely loves it there. My wife went today and said that Wendee was really terrific with our dog. Of course our dog barked at her since is a little hesitant around strangers, but she handled him just right and he enjoyed the initial evaluation...He still needs to go back, so that they can see if he will do the other things he would need to do when staying there. Love A to Z. We board our dog Louie there whenever we go out-of-town. He gets so excited when we pull up & he's let through the gates. He doesn't even look back. Wendee & her staff treat Louie with love & care. The facility is lovely, acres & acres for the dogs to romp around & Louie has his own little indoor room, where his dog bed fits comfortably. My husband and I recently moved back to the Austin area and have never boarded our 2 most recent rescues. We have 3 dogs with very different personalities and we we were going to be gone for over a week on a vacation out of the country. I knew about the A to Z Dog Ranch but had never taken our pups there. We went out about a month before to take a test drive and see how our dogs would do and determine if this was a good place for them to stay. Wendee and her staff went above and beyond to provide us with about an hour where we could tour the property, discuss the specifics of each of our pups, and see how our dogs would do around the other dogs. As soon as we took the leashes off, our hounds were G-O-N-E - playing, sniffing and just being dogs. It was clear to see they loved the environment and wonderful to see them like we'd never had the opportunity before (since they're always on leash or in a small back yard). Needless to say, we decided to have A to Z take on "Mission Impossible" with our 3 dogs - lol. Wendee and her staff were fantastic. They posted pics of our dogs so we could see how they were doing, and the one time I contacted them, I got updates to let us know how they were doing. I only had to check once because they were GREAT. Anyway, we just got back from our week long vacation and for not ONE MINUTE did we ever worry or wonder how our dogs were doing at the A to Z Dog Ranch while we were gone. Our dogs were glad to see us today when we picked them up, but they weren't all that ready to come home. It was clear that they were loved, cared for, spoiled just like they are at home, and having a GREAT time. Tonight, our pups are all OUT - sleeping hard from a full week's worth of playing hard, having fun and BEING DOGS! It was an absolute joy to see them so happy. To top it off, they all got baths and pawdicures. They smell amazing - thanks to Derick too for making them pretty for their coming home today. I HIGHLY recommend the A to Z Dog Ranch for your pet. I couldn't be happier with the service, professionalism and most of all PEACE OF MIND that Wendee and her ranch hands provided us. What a true blessing to find such a wonderful retreat for our dogs. Our Australian Shepherd Titan has been going for play days at A To Z Dog Ranch for over a year now. He turns 3 in June 2014 and it's his home away from home. Going to the dog ranch really has helped him grow up and learn to socialize with other canines and humans. He loves it there and thinks he's working! We started taking him twice a week for play days to get him used to it so we could board when leaving town. We boarded him last Sept when we went to Baltimore for five days and although I was nervous he had a great time since he was already used to being there! The next time we boarded him I was so relaxed when out of town knowing he was having way too much fun! We highly recommend them! They are all awesome and take care of our pets like they are family! Our dog just returned from 6 days at the 'ranch' and loved it! What a great facility and so wonderful to know your pet is happy and well cared for while you are away. We boarded previously at the Petshotel (Petsmart) and A to Z is 100% better. May be a little farther to drive but your dog is free to roam outside and they don't charge extra for outside play time like other places. read more

I love A to Z and so does our 5 year old boxer. He has stayed at the ranch many times over the past three years. He's always excited when we get to the ranch and he's eager to get behind the gate and see his friends. And, he always comes home happy. A neighbor and our vet recommended A to Z to us when we moved to the area. When my daughter's french bull dog started going to the ranch, Wendee made sure the two dogs "bunked" together which was great. Wendee and her team are committed to providing a healthy, safe and fun environment. They always have the dog's best interest in mind. I made an early discovery before boarding & investing over $1500 with A-Z. I take issue w/ an organization that places its own well being above that of its clients. IMHO it speaks volumes that A-Z would charge $ for me to explore a relationship & take a required 15 min. tour of their facility. As a parallel, would you expect to pay for a tour of a college or boarding school for your children as you conduct due diligence? Imagine business owners demanding payment to market their products & provide prospective clients w/ a demo. I am paraphrasing but I was summarily told that in 7 yrs the owner had never had anyone object to paying for a tour and that she was taking time out of her busy day (away from the other paying clients' animals) to provide me with a tour. I expressed & explained respectfully that I was willing to pay but that I did find her entitlement to be somewhat offensive. That was when she went on the attack & belittled me. She spoke down to me asking if I could read as her assistant sent me an initial email (in fine print of course) detailing a charge for the tour. Not one of the follow up emails confirming my appointment contained this nor did she express/specify anything in the multiple phone calls regarding my appt. I have surveyed 10 other kennels locally and I can report that no one else is charging for tours. Normally I wouldn't even comment as I am not out to smear a facility, but when the owner is argumentative/difficult with clients about being paid for a tour only to be trumped by her clients that jump on at the end of our discussion yelling & using profanity (but can't explain why when asked bcse he was raging) then I'd think again about working w/ them. I'm talking about a very large man that is a big & scary guy screaming profanities at me & that is sad that an owner would condone that. I asked her if she supports this & her answer was that it okay he is just a guy trying to support her. Ahm, Okay. I wondered if he was going to pummel me (as he certainly was posturing like that) so I left quickly. Personally I would have asked the guy to leave. I was just fine with agreeing to disagree on the matter & going on my way, but when she attacked me then defended this guys actions I can only come to conclusion that thank God I was able to see the true colors of this facility before entering into a business relationship. I was planning on spending upwards of $1500 for boarding when we were overseas. In other words, I think I can sum this up by saying "Buyer beware; there are a lot of other equivalent or better facilities that have Management who will put your needs in front of their own." The scary part is that since experiencing this I have spoken to multiple experienced animal professionals that each have +25 plus years in animal medicine. Both are aware of this facility & have had similar experiences/reactions by others reported, but they expressed dismay toward the level of entitlement this facility projects by requiring dog owners boarding their pets with them to sign a waiver (which is actually a contract according to my attorney that looked at the document) that if your pooch has not received a Dog Flu booster cycle the waiver places 100% financial responsibility (esp. if it became a legal/civil matter) on the signer's shoulders if any dog succumbs to the flu at their facility. Note this facility is in Travis County. ONE case of dog flu has been reported & according to public records that case was the result of an animal boarded right after having gone to a dog show in Louisiana the week before. Perhaps A to Z runs a clean facility that is good for your dog. I observed cleanliness there, sure. They also appeared organized. I have read reviews on here that state that some folks are quite happy boarding their pets there. Great. I am only commenting to look at the culture of the facility with regard to customer no service. That was a first impression!!. I can only comment objectively that I observed cramped conditions in the kenneling space & that the facilities appeared to be pieced together after much thought post my tour versus my other non paid tours of other facilities that have well thought out living conditions with spacing etc. so that animals are not on top of each other except for when they are exercised. I live by a business mantra where I always put my clients first before my own needs as a business owner. IMHO, the golden rule applies where the client is always right if they object to anything I am asking of them even if I disagree as long as it is not to the detriment of my business. If you find any of my experience to be telling for the type of customer service you will receive @ this facility that if you are shopping for a new relationship w/ a pet boarding facility that there are simply too many other bus. that will put your needs as a client first,not secondary. Clearly we are in the top of a Bull market w/ the normalization of entitlement. read more

Alex did an awesome job This place is way out there, but I wouldn't mind spending time running around, and it looks escape proof. The staff is very friendly. But I digress. Took my whippet for toenail clipping and afghan hound for the full groom. He has never looked better, and was happy. The happy part is astounding, as he is as aloof as it gets, and hates chaotic grooming places. Alex said he stood up for her, let her do his feet and ears, no problem. His coat is perfect. John B. Great place for your dog(s) in my case two Great Danes, the place is out in the country, open range, shady, and always supervised by ranch hands that really love what they do! The owner Wendee, screens the dogs to make sure that no matter when your dog is there, they will have a great time, have fun and come back home worn out. The overnight spaces are very cool. They have an area for crates and individual spaces with their own doors for your pup if you want to not crate them. They use baby monitors, makes sense for my babies! to make sure they are doing fine. It doesn't get much better than this for your special girl or guy! Great job, glad I found them. read more

This place is fantastic! I took my 5 month old puppy there when I needed to be gone for 2 weeks over the holidays. I was super nervous to leave him anywhere, but Wendee made me feel so comfortable. She has 2 acres that are fenced in, and 5 dogs of her own. This means my dog was able to come into an established pack of very friendly dogs. Wendee only boards ten dogs max, which means lots of personal attention. The dogs stay in a separate house, right next to Wendee's, where she can monitor the dogs via video camera. The dogs are only outside when being supervised, which is most of the time. There is a creek and huge wood chip piles that the dogs love to play on. After about a week Wendee called to let me know that my dog had a little bit of green eye gunk, and that she had already called her vet and asked about it and was ready to take him in if I wanted. Great personal attention! I loved this place and will definitely take my dog back! read more

A to Z is a pretty amazing place. We are lucky to have found Wendee and her wonderful ranch to take care of our dogs when we cannot. We have had no owner guilt leaving our dogs in the capable hands of A to Z and the knowledgeable staff. The ranch is in a wide open space with lots of trees and shade for the dogs to safely run around and explore, while socializing with one another. It is well gated around the perimeter. During playtime the dogs are constantly supervised and well cared for. I am impressed with how quickly they all adapt and accept each other. Before a stay the dogs and owners are given a tour to make sure they are a good fit for life on the ranch. When I left my dogs, I saw they had already been readily accepted into the pack and the joy on their faces when I left. "Thanks MOM, see ya later!" My oldest dog needed a "little" extra attention because of her age (14) as well as a number of medications and lots of loving care. They were fully capable of handling this. It is easy to tell that Wendee and her staff care about the dogs as if they were their own. They know what they are doing and are extremely skilled. Of all the places we have left our pets prior to the discovery of A to Z, I'd have to say this place is far above all others and THE BEST. Not to mention it's very comparable in price to facilities that cannot match the A to Z Dog Ranch standards. read more

After moving out to Spicewood we didn't know anyone or anyplace we could take our dogs while we are out of town. This has been a huge hindrance for us, but I finally found a place that I can trust to leave me dogs. I have two large dogs and an older yorkie. Wendee is so thorough and accommodating whether it be for drop off times or making a special space for your somewhat special needs dog. She really loves dogs and it shows. My dogs all had a blast there and slept for two days when we picked them up! Wendee has you bring your dogs for a visit to access their personalities and to show you her around. We now plan on going out of town more often thanks to A to Z Dog Ranch and we will be bring our dogs back for a visit very soon! read more
