Barkley's is one of my favorite shops in town! I've come here for years with my parents to buy food, clothes and treats for all of our dogs. The owners are very sweet and I have to commend the male owner for his knowledge in the pet food department. My dog Lilly couldn't settle on a kibble that didn't disturb her stomach and he took so much time to explain the options to me. Really appreciated it! Overall though, it's reallllllly expensive. The clothing for a dog size small is one piece of felt and they charge like $30+ for it. So I don't come as often as I'd like. But great store, friendly, always clean :) read more

I am verrrry fussy about my dogs -- the quality of their food, grooming, health and accoutrements. Most box stores don't suit me -- so I primarily source via the internet. If I lived in the Flemington area, Barkley's would be my go to source for all my pets needs. Hands down! The owner (Andy) is more than just an engaged proprietor -- he is a knowledgeable dog aficionado -- and his well behaved pets roam the store while you shop and make the experience that much more personal. I was amazed by the sheer volume of his stock of super premium and premium products (including everything I use) -- at prices comparable to what it costs me online. Barkley's also supports the local economy by stocking food and products made locally, and organically. My dog loved the place -- he played nicely with Andy's two boys -- earning him a fresh bag of Australian venison treats. There is something organic about a small business like Barkley's in a small town like Flemington that suits me. It is more than just the Americana vibe (that I love); it is also the commitment of the business to do its level best by the customers, human and canine. I like that. read more

The owners of this store are VERY friendly and quite sweet. The store has a lot going on, so it is fun to look around. They focus a lot on dogs, but there is still a fair amount of cat stuff. The back of the place is all kinds of food, refrigerated, dry, wet, raw, freeze-dried, and the owner is more than happy to help you find what you and your furry friend need. They also sell trial sizes to make sure your pet loves the food! I got a trial Acana bag, maybe six or so servings, for $3. Since I live in DC, he even called a place down there to make sure I could find it without paying for shipping from them! That was great. I highly recommend this place :) read more

I love this store. I am a loyalist and when Fins, Fur and Feathers closed in Ringoes... I was glad to have a new go-to spot in the Flemington area. Barkley's Gourmet has the feel of a true down-town experience with unique items and a real put-together, polished interior / display. The products are top-notch. All of the food, toys, shampoos are quality and I don't hesitate to use the products with my two dogs; it's important to me to feel that my pups have the best - they are my non-human babies. That said, the high quality is priced right. I have compared (can't help myself) and the large box-type pet stores can not beat the prices at Barkley's Gourmet. I buy all of my wet/dry food, cleaning products (I've got a senior "spot maker"), shampoos, conditioners, cookies, etc. here and I love that it's down-town Flemington !! Let's rebuild the hometown main street folks!! I also appreciate that in this economy the prices are kept just right, competitive. The owners are very helpful and I'm hoping that locals will support their downtown area and while you are in town at Barkley's... there are so many options for a downtown experience, the Candy Bar... Where else can you go where they will help you fit the collar (some of those harness contraptions are tricky!) and carry the food out to your car? Also, we get delivery when we don't have time and there is no charge. They have the best quality foods and tons of selection on toys and other supplies. The advice is invaluable as well. read more

We live in the New Brunswick and every 3 weeks or so, we travel almost 45 minutes out of our way to Flemington to purchase our dog food. We've done this for several years now and it's because of the extraordinary service we receive from Andy and his staff. In some instances, our dogs have experienced minor issues and Andy has proven to be an amazing resource. Our Vet recently complimented us for taking the recommendations Andy provided. Barkley's has become a regular fixture in downtown Flemington because of the steady traffic of satisfied customers as well as the owner's commitment to the local community. I've had a very good experiences at Barkley's. The owners go out of their way to help you find the best food for your pet. I have a greyhound with a sensitive stomach and was able to switch her to a new food with no stomach upset at all, and she really likes the food. They provide excellent service, even calling other stores if there is a food you need that they don't have in stock. And, they do everything they can to promote pet rescue and adoption. Found Barkley's by accident, while looking for a local retailer for Lupine leashes and collars. Laurie and Andy genuinely care about their own pets and this translates beautifully into their care for their customers and their pets. We buy pretty much everything for our pooch there and if they don't have it, they will get it for you in most cases, at a competitive price too. The pup likes to play with their dogs and knows when I pull up in front of the store: he gets so excited to go inside and have fun. Four paws up from the pup! Downtown Flemington is a nice place to walk and there's plenty to see and do. Very highly recommend. read more

Andy and Lori are both extremely knowledgeable about nutrition, and are experts on the foods they carry. Barkley's is clean, well designed and jam packed with fun stuff, especially for dogs. Owner's are friendly, exceptionally helpful and they seem to truly value their customers - I have lost count of the number of samples they have let us try for our picky eaters. Their bakery treats for dogs are a big hit with our dogs but the "must have" is the beef jerky - our dogs go crazy for it. Lots of great toys and very cool collars/leashes too. Shocked to see all the good reviews. I've been in the store several times and decided not to go back. The owner was quite pompous and the last time I was there was downright rude. He made negative comments about how long it had been since I was there and then made a rude comment about my buying something that was on sale. They may be knowledgeable but who needs to do business with people like that. Plenty of others places to go where you can deal with smart and pleasant store owners.
