Jim Barlow did not work of any kind or is simply withholding it from me -- he held my $3,000 retainer and had no work to show it. He had his lawyer send me a nasty and what they imagined to be an intimidating letter, "denying all allegations," insisting I get my own attorney and other inappropriate and rather bizarre comments that indicated I had no right to expect work to have been done despite the contract I signed that describes what he would do for the $3,000 he was paid up front for doing what turned out to be little or nothing. I was provided no records of his interactions-if there ever were any though in previous calls and emails he'd said he "was on it." If he was on something it certainly wasn't on his task as a CPA. I've reported both him and his sketchy attorney to the relevant professional associations and intend to sue for damages. read more

I met with Jim Barlow a few weeks ago to review my income tax preparation for 2012 as I had been with an accountant further away (Canton) and wanted someone close by. Now my tax needs are not that complex but I always felt more comfortable using an attorney as I do have a sole-proprietorship and got married in 2012. Jim took the time to review my 2011 return, make some suggestions and then told me that he could charge me and he'd be happy to do my taxes, but it made more sense to just go do it on TurboTax or another tax software. Wow! He could of easily charged me $200-300 and I would of happily paid, but instead he showed integrity and pointed me in a smarter direction. I'll keep him in mind for sure! read more

Lost my paperwork after years of being a faithful client. Sent numerous referrals and couldn't help me after they lost my paperwork. If you want to get into exact dates, they filed an extension on my tax in March (because they were too busy),and didn't contact me till October 10th asking for documents that we were told they had since March. We had given them the only copy of the W2's like we did every year. Once they told me that it was missing I had to wait for my previous employer to mail out a copy which I kept in constant contact with them about. I tried calling a few times and left voicemails and didn't get a phone call back either time. They sent back the paperwork because they were done with taxes at the end of October even though they dragged their feet on my taxes for over 7 months. After 7 months they finally let me know that they didn't have all the paperwork? Sounds like poor organization on their part. read more

Having Jim Barlow handle my 2014 tax prep is the best decision I've made so far this year. After years of using TurboTax for comparably simple returns, it was high time to use an accountant for a more complex year of buying property, stock transactions, freelance work and all that good stuff. I found Jim on Yelp (thanks to the other reviewers for looping me in!) and was so lucky that he could fit me into his schedule at this busy time of year. I couldn't have been happier with the outcome - and the taxes I owed were WAY less than my estimate using Turbo Tax. I like what I see in their website. But seems it is nearly impossible to make a schedule. After a long waiting time, I got a call the day before to reschedule 3 weeks later. So I waited. And two hours before the appointment, I got a call again to reschedule, and again 3 weeks later. It is not acceptable. read more
