I can safely say this is my first experience of this caliber. Minibar has a Michelin star, and this is the primary cocktail version of that... Can I count this as my first Michelin star experience? I would argue yes, but let me know if you disagree. My friend made a reservation and when we all arrived on time, we were guided inside and led to a high table that could hold 8 people. It was 4 of us, so we were giving the option to either pick the left or right side. We immediately received Waters and were given the cocktail menus. They do have snacks as well, but the focus is definitely cocktails. We were told about the flight, and it was almost overwhelming how many different cocktails there were for each spirit. It's worth noting that the flight has exclusive cocktails that you cannot order individually, so that's incentive right there. We decided to all share the flight while ordering individual drinks. I... Can't even describe how diverse, artistic, and creative the flight was. It had its highs and lows, and one cocktail even came with a snack. It changes a few times a year, but it's an adventure I would recommend to anyone. And I would not recommend any one person get the flight unless you have your Uber already scheduled XD. Drinks aside, we ordered the mini waffles and they were fantastic. It was a combination of sweet and savory. They are small and pricey, but that's what you expect here. The quality was peak. Maybe this is a hot take but I thought Barmini was just okay. Clearly excellent on technical execution but everything leaned too sweet for my palate, and ultimately this felt like gussying up fancy ingredients & cool techniques and missing the quality and nuance of the actual drink. I came on a Saturday night for à la carte drinks after dinner. Reservations will certainly help if you've got your heart set on coming here or want the tasting menu. I actually had intended on trying this spot when I was in town a few months ago but had to cancel due to work commitments. Their cancellation policy is kind of annoying to me - you still have to pay the deposit unless it's greater than a week's notice. I feel like industry standard is 48 or 24 hours, and it was annoying to have to pay $50 when I cancelled 5 days in advance. I did three drinks à la carte (was curious about the tasting menu but that was more drinks than I could reasonably handle.) I opted for: 1. Eilxir of Long Life: gin, clarified green chartreuse, maraschino, clarified lime. Basically a clarified last word. Very cool technique but this was way, way, WAY too sweet. It took all the nuance out of the cool drink technique. 2. 2 Stops to Montilla: genever, amontillado, höjicha, sesame oil, lavender bitters. My favorite of the night though I found the gold leaf gimmicky and it messed up my lipstick/got all over my mouth. This was really awesome taste-wise, still a bit sweet for me but doable. 3. Big in Japan: japanese whiskey, dry vermouth, salers, drambuie, wakamomo. Their version of a dry manhattan. This was good but nothing that knocked me out of the park. Loved the wakamomo though. Ultimately I really expected more of a cocktail bar my friends raved about as the best in DC. Was it better than your average craft cocktail bar? Yes. And the service was Michelin-level, super friendly, approachable, helpful without overdoing it. The truffle grilled cheese was also awesome, a must order. Maybe the cocktail flight would have been more to my liking? They are doing cool things here (I enjoyed watching them make a set of cocktails with liquid nitrogen for the pairing) but the overall taste of cocktails consistently fell under fancy cocktail bars I've had when I travel. I had a really bad day and just got away from being held hostage by someone talking my ear off for hours (trying to sell me on stuff business meeting type stuff) over at Penn Social. When I finally got out of there I walked down the road and saw BarMini logo on the building. I thought it must be a sign! I called and spoke to someone to see if they would accept walk-ins on the random weekday night. They said they had room and I could go in to the bar area. I've been meaning to check out barmini for the longesttt time. As a cocktail lover, I had really high expectations for this bar. Overall, I'd say most of my expectations were met. I can't say it's the best bar I've ever been to (Silver Lyan right across the street still holds my heart for the best bar in the U.S.), but all the cocktails were pretty good and the presentation of the cocktails was fantastic. Cocktails: - Old fashioned-style cocktail: 100/10 (don't remember the name exactly, but this cocktail was my favorite. Lovedddd the fire show and I absolutely loved how smoky yet sweet the cocktail was! It was really well balanced cocktail.) - Cloud cocktail: 9.5/10 (loved the presentation and loved how the smoke added depth to an otherwise sweeter cocktail. He was so fun and knowledgeable! He is the mastermind behind the soup du jour cocktail. It tasted like French onion soup. Deliciousness - 5/5 Happiness - 4/5 I've been wanting to go here for some time and finally took the plunge (my official apologies to my bank account). That said, this definitely lived up to both the reputation and my expectations, making it a super memorable and ultra boozy date night. The bar is full of fun, eye catching decorations, and expertly laid out so that nobody's conversations intrude upon your own. They take you through a menu of drinks with a shared theme (currently, drinks inspired by Jose Andreas' hometown in Spain) and each drink is served like a mini show while made in front of you. You definitely can get silly (sliding liquid nitrogen across the floor for a fog show) and messy (one drink is poured from a spout into your mouth), and of course, classy. I hadn't really had anything like each of the drinks served, and the craftsmanship was so fun that even if a drink wasn't necessarily my favorite thing, I had a good time experiencing it (I know that sounds snooty, but it's true!). The food was magnificent (note: they only offer small plates, if you want a meal you have to go to the attached Minibar restaurant). Hands down, the beef tartare was our favorite. I've never had better. The wagyu beef was expertly prepared, and it was laid on a crunchy wasabi chip that enhanced the dish and changed the flavor as you chewed. We also got stuffed waffles (one had foie gras with peanuts, another steak and a cheese foam, and a third with mushrooms) and while not quite as good as the tartare, was still scrumptious. We ended with a key lime popsicle that was a bit too sour for me, but my wife loved every bite (and it was a great mouth cleanser at the end of the night). The service was a bit overzealous (at one point they apologized that another couple came up and spoke to us. We were totally OK with them chatting with us). But I do appreciate that they make a concerted effort to make everyone in there feel special. This is highly recommended for a milestone celebration or all-out date night! read more

My husband made a reservation for my 40th bday and it was a great experience! We were seated at a couch towards the back (discovered that way that there are secret rooms, I assume, for those willing and able to pay $$$$$). We had two hours to drink six cocktails. There was so much creativity with the cocktails--a pineapple pizza one with Parmesan foam for example and a cocktail where they made sorbet out of liquid nitrogen and poured bubbles over it. One thing to know is that if you don't like any of the six cocktails, they will quickly and happily bring you a replacement. There was a smoky whiskey one that my husband loved but wasn't for me and they brought an awesome daiquiri. It is pricey -- we finished all six cocktails which is a lot for two hours. All the cocktails had a different taste profile and loved hearing their food counterparts from Jose Andres. Barmini considers itself a cocktail lab so doing the cocktail flight is a must here. When we came, each of the six cocktails were based on the themes of their other restaurants and were completely unique - most as a typical cocktail, but one served as a form of sorbet and another that focused on the smoke presented with the drink. The Magic Carpet Ride was incredible. Even though you come here for the drinks, they also have great small plates for order to compliment your tasting experience. The two bigger winners for us were the grilled cheese and the mini waffles flight. All such simple concepts but made with such flavor power that they are well-worth it. Service here is incredible. I've been to Barmini before and my experience was an 11 out of 10. My experience was SOOOOO good that when I saw the teasers of what they were doing for Negroni Week on Instagram I booked my flight right away and flew back in from California . The entire Negroni week menu was amazing, I especially loved the Negroni spheres soooo interesting. I was a huge fan of the Negroni Gummy Bears that came with every drink, what a great idea . The service is always top notch, I love having small talk with the incredibly skilled bartenders. My favorite is asking what is everyone's favorite drink so I can steal the answers for my future drinking! I've been to some of the best bars from all over the world and this bar holds a special place in my heart. Easily in my top 5 favorite bars in the world!!! Oh my GOD. Make the res. If you've been on the fence about going or if you always look for a res too late and slots are filled, set a calendar reminder. It's worth going. I don't like the taste of alcohol, but barmini has a great menu of non-alcoholic (NA) drinks. I'm tired of places not catering to the NA crowd. For whatever reason, we don't wanna consume alcohol but that doesn't mean we want to miss out on the drinking experience of trying a variety of mixed drinks and appreciating the time and effort that goes into creating fun drinks. Barmini created a variety of NA drinks that I'd say rival the alcoholic menu in creativity and taste. We had a party of four, three did the drink flight. I opted for a la carte. I ordered the Nakamura and ticket to ride. Both were so so good, and if you order those drinks, I recommend them in that order. Nakamura was so refreshing and the ticket to ride was the right level of spicy for me. And the presentation was so great! The bar snacks are amazing as well. Foie gras waffles, truffle grilled cheese? Delicious. I'd say the portions are enough to keep you satisfied if you snackish or truly hungry. Portions are good for sharing or for turning into a solo meal lol. And the service? Y'all. From entry to exit, it was the most perfect experience. Staff were welcoming, knowledge, hilarious, and approachable. It really seemed like everyone there cared about making customer experience the best it could be, back of house and front of house. My bf and I forgot to get a photo of the NA drink menu, and I emailed barmini to see if they could provide a photo. It seems like they change all the drinks out by season, which is super cool. Incredible experience that I would recommend to everyone and a place I will definitely return to. My only complaint was we were seated at a small couch next to the door with no view of the experience. Door kept opening in front of us and I had zero view of the show including the decor. That was unfortunate, but everything else was so great that I still think my experience here was great. The bartenders were talented, educated and professional. The presents for all drinks were beautiful and tasted amazing. My favorite was the matcha tot-tea and second favorite was the winter haiku. It was so fun and exciting to try each and every drink that came out. Also ordered the grilled cheese, which was perfection. I could eat that every single day. With my bday coming up, they presented me a cute little dessert which was very thoughtful. I will definitely be back but next time request a different seat. That would've elevated my experience here 10x more! read more

We came here for a birthday bar visit as a group of four.... Getting in was interesting, almost "speak-easy'ish." Once inside, service was challenging, as we had one person in our party with a food allergy that was previously advised to the staff, but seems it was forgotten upon our arrival. The staff was somewhat accommodating. Attention to detail and us by the staff was next to zero (we ordered a small bite and an hour later when we askd where it was she immediately replied "I'll get it from the kitchen" then must've realized it wouldn't be very good hanging out waiting for a runner that long and said "I'll check on that." Then a few mins alter came back and admitted she forgot and just put the order in when we asked about the status of it.) The nice thing is they took care of that small bite, as well as a couple extra drinks, which is very nice, but in a "Michelin class" restaurant/bar, we shouldn't have elementary issues like the ones we experienced. As for the drinks, they were nicely done! But it was concerning that the server told us they were "pre-portioned." That's NOT AT ALL how a craft cocktail bar should operate. read more

Outstanding! Everything from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you exit was incredible. The food was creative and I was constantly surprised by the explosion of flavors that were popping in my mouth. The wine pairing was wonderful and they did not skimp on it. I walked out of the restaurant a bit tipsy :) I also want to give a shout-out to the chefs and staff. They were extremely professional and personable. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and allowed for a real inside look at the behind the scenes of a major kitchen. Loved loved loved this. Jose Andres is the true king of DC fine dining. read more

@barminibyjose was such a delight to check out this week. We tried their "tour de Jose" which consisted of a 6 course cocktail tasting. Went to Barmini this past Friday and was highly disappointed, It's not like it use to be before covid. The drink experience was extremely boring and sub par...not impressive at all. Before covid there were 6 interactive flights of cocktails, some telling a story of our childhood past, such as the nostalgia flight, this was worth paying $130-$150 per person. I wish Barmini would rethink their direction and go back to the table side presentation of the drink menu...much more fun and entertaining. Additionally, I think their food menu needs to bee explanded, to include more options, such as cheeses, olives, crackers and maybe pretzel cheese dip. Just a thought! read more
