I first found about about Nero 3 months ago and have come back 4 times already! The cocktails are the best I've had in DC, and the food is just as amazing. You must try!

Found this hidden gem while looking for a nightcap after a comedy show at the improv. What a great spot w/quiant ambience and excellently crafted cocktails. Can't wait to come back and check put tbe speakeasy in the basement.

Nero is a must visit speakeasy in DC! The drinks were incredible and the ambiance was so cozy and also really entertaining. I loved the fire demonstration. The chai espresso and fig whiskey sour were excellent and so well made. Our bartender (who is also the manager) was amazing. 10/10!

The vibes at this place were amazing. Service was top notch. Some of the best drinks in the city. Quick service, very friendly and always on top of things. I highly recommend this spot.

Love love love this place. A new favorite. We ordered off of the happy hour and couldn't be more pleased. Good service and good food. We sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and took care of us. The restaurant is such a cool vibe. We took a peek at the wine bar upstairs...and I can't wait to come back to indulge in the self service wine bar. We went downstairs to the speakeasy.....obsessed. We got two cocktails that were delicious.

Went for a girls evening happy hour. We got multiple apps and a couple drinks. I had a rum and coke but friends had cocktails that they said were delicious. The ambiance was dark they had many candles . There is also a speak east down stairs but it opens I think at 7. The service was quick food okay.

This review is for Sabina, the speakeasy underneath Nero. Coming in was pretty cool, the door looks like a continuation of the brick wall. Once inside, the venue is intimate, quaint, and dark with loud club music playing. The staff was friendly enough and interestingly dressed... we appeared to be in a swinger's club based on everything we had seen and experienced thus far. Their cocktail list was rather small and they also didn't seem to have much in stock in the way of rum or other items we sought. Very few of the cocktails listed appealed to me, so I chose one on a whim and it was so sickly sweet that I actually felt sick after drinking it. We ultimately just were one-and-done here and headed out. The vibe was great, but that was about it.

I found this gem on instagram. I shared with my girls and we planned a date on a Friday afternoon at 5pm. We made two reservations, one for dinner in the wine room and another for 7pm for the speakeasy. Let's start with Nero. We were promptly seated at 5pm upstairs in the wine room. Our server was very nice and explained the menu. It was still happy hour so we ordered from that menu as well as the regular dinner menu. The mushroom pizza was delicious! I'm a big fan of mushroom pizza with white sauce. We also tried some of the wine. I wasn't a fan of any of their wine. However, my girlfriend ordered a bottle and enjoyed the Nero Red. Now, for the speakeasy, Sabina. Loved it! The signature Smokey old fashioned was delicious! I'd definitely go back to the speakeasy. It's small, so I suggested making reservations!

One of my friends and I went and had a great time. We started on the second floor for happy hour and then transitioned to the speakeasy after that. I wish I remembered everyone's name that we interacted with because they were amazing. I think one of the servers was named Olía. She was so helpful, explained the wine bar process, provided recommendations, and overall provided a great experience. The food was soooo delicious! The only hiccup was that the kitchen did not put the sausage on the pepperoni and sausage pizza so they brought it on the side. It was a nice and comfortable space to catch up with my friend and then the speakeasy was still good to chat but the vibe was cozier.

This review is for Sabina - the speakeasy located on the lower level of Nero and it gets 5 stars from me mostly because I LOVED the ambiance - the drinks were good too!! When you step inside, you're greeted to a very dimly lit space with low lights and candles all around, creating a warm glow that adds to the cozy atmosphere. I loved the reddish hue from the candles that added to the intimate and welcoming vibe. The space feels exclusive and personal with very limited seating so make sure to book your reservations in advance! I loved the whole vibe - it's perfect for date nights or a small intimate birthday celebration or get together with friends. The drinks were creative and delicious. I had a few of one particularly cocktail called the Ignis which had a mix of bourbon, black cardamom, demerara, peat, sandalwood, smoke and gold - yes gold. It was really good. While it's on the pricier side, I think it's worth it especially for a special night out. Just be mindful if you're watching your budget. I wasn't the biggest fan of the truffle fries but my friends devoured them. haha. Overall, I loved Sabina. It's ambiance and unique atmosphere made it stand out to me. I'll definitely be returning - add it to the top of my list!

Popped into Nero on a late night after a show at the Kennedy Center. I have a list of places I want to try and this was one. Had some pizza and truffle fries with my partner. Pretty good, would like to try other things on the menu as these two things were good but pretty standard however their kitchen was closing soon and we needed to rush our order so not sure if that had anything to do with it. The drinks were great, again, another thing I would love to come back and try. When we walked in, my partner and I loved the ambiance. It's dark and has a very lowkey date night feel. The place is a lot smaller than I imagined but has a cozy vibe. Im inclined to give this place 3 stars as the food we had was average and our 1 evening out as parents was disturbed by some girls sitting at the bar talking about their love lives at full volume. At some points my partner and I could not hear one another and we were sitting so close to each other at the bar that our knees were touching (they were LOUD). Which turned the nice lowkey date night spot into more of a college bar (y'all know what I'm talking about). I realllllyyy wanted to love this place and wanted to have more drinks here before heading out but I think I'm gonna have to be back to give it another try because our first experience was more annoying than enjoyable due to the other guests and we ended up rushing out of there. Side-note: I feel there should be a rule at certain bars like these that if guests 3 seats down from you can hear your conversation, the staff needs to tell you to please keep it down. Idk, is it just me? Anyway, we'll give it another try.

It's Mr Speakeasy at another Speakeasy. Nero is a nice, relaxing bar that deals with specialty drinks, wine and more. Bridget, ori, crystal and ashley had fantastic customer service and made sure we were taken care of. Definitely a fun experience.

Now, the food. The housemade sourdough with eucalyptus honey butter is dangerous, I could have stopped there and been happy. The roasted carrot salad with hazelnut dukkah and garlic toum was one of those dishes that makes you rethink a vegetable entirely. The garlic knots had no business being that good... crispy, layered, almost croissant-like, deeply garlicky in the best way. For pasta we had the pappardelle with spicy roasted pork ragù and fennel breadcrumbs, and the canastra cheese ravioli with wild garlic pesto and brazil nut pangrattato, that stunning deep green dish topped with chive blossoms looked like art and tasted even better. Both pastas were perfect. Then the Brazilian budino with coconut caramel and toasted coconut came out with a little candle tucked in. I nearly cried. The Cheeseburger Americain was a standard 3.5 out of 5 American cheeseburger that beats the average suburban chain restaurant burger with its double patty and sesame bun, but isn't gonna knock your socks off like a steakhouse burger. The poutine kept my socks on too (I was particularly excited about the poutine and ended up a tad underwhelmed). The biggest disappointment was the mozzarella sticks, which...... I'll just get to in the service part. Cocktails were mid. All interesting concepts, but most missed the mark. the Polar Express was a little too sweet, I forgot what the name of the riff on an old fashioned or Manhattan I had but that was okay, and the Fleur de Citron tasted like when you ask for a Sprite and they ask, "Is Sierra Mist (now Starry) okay?" and you reply, "yeah that's fine," but then what you get is actually a flat 7-Up. Skip to the Assessment/Plan if you don't want to read this novella retelling of our evening. Service - Relatively early for the dinner service, we were the largest and one of only a few tables in the restaurant. I counted 3 other tables seated (small parties of less than 4 each) and a few patrons at the bar. It took about 20 minutes before we first got our menus and the guy who handed them to us didn't say a word just dropped them off. Then it took another 20 minutes before he came back to get our drink orders, and 1) seemed like he was having a bad day, which... fine, but 2) was rolling his eyes when some of us were a little between some options and wanted a recommendation, which... alright my guy let's chill. We weren't talking loud, we weren't drinking before and being obnoxious, we just wanted to ask about what some of the drinks were like on a very cool menu of cocktails we haven't tried anywhere else. Upon returning with our drinks, he accidentally spilled a not insignificant amount on my friend sitting across from me, and while we reacted and started handing him extra napkins, he just glanced at him, finished giving out the drinks, and walked away. No "oops", "my bad", "oh let me get you some paper towels", nothing. So at this point, we're all staring at each other like "Did we do something? Do we smell?" Whatever, friend's birthday, we've been talking about this cabin weekend for several years and it's finally happening, let's just vibe. Now another 20 minutes went by and we were getting antsy because we wanted to order our food but it looked like there wasn't a lot of staff, and we didn't want to upset anyone by hurrying them. Another man came over who we thought was going to take our orders. Nope. He starts picking up our menus so I say, "Oh, hey we haven't ordered yet." To which he replies, "OK, but I need the menus." Alright cool, yeah, that makes sense if he needed them for other tables and can leave us with a few to share. Nope. He just took them and placed them back at the host stand. Awkward stares across the table again. Whatever, we had enough, I guess. Tick tock, tick tock. A third guy came over, and when he smiled and asked, "Hi are you all ready to order?" I was like "Oh finally a human being!" Food took another 20-ish minutes while we nursed our drinks and really had no interest in ordering another round (not that anyone asked us). We ate. We chatted. We had an okay time. We were super ready to get out of there. Oh right, the mozz sticks. Le Mont'zarella sticks. They had one order left of four sticks for $18. We were one of the first diners. You can imagine after all the above, that's just a major facepalm emoji. Assessment/Plan: Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for Le Mont Royal to improve their service, now and at the hour of ASAP, because the place has so much potential, and maybe it was just an off night, or the staff just finished arguing with each other in the back so they took it out on us, but dearly beloved Lord it was like we offended nine generations of their ancestry from the moment we walked in. With "a 22% service charge has been added for your convenience," I thought we were getting Punk'd. The always-changing French-Canadian menu is a cool and unique concept, but it's a lot of bark with very little bite. It didn't make the disappointing service worth it. Once seated, we decided to order some starters to share: +the Warm Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese Ball - with honey and red wine caramelized onions +Chicken Liver Mousse - with white wine gelee, apricot, pickled veggies, and an onion marmalade +Baked Camembert de Normandie - with confit garlic, thyme, and honey +and, an Onion Soup for the hubs - prepared with beef broth, croutons, and Gruyere For our entrees, I went for the Steak-Frites, which came with a hanger steak and shallot sauce; you can sub the usual fries with truffle fries, which I recommend! My counterparts enjoyed their Long Island Duck Breakfast (with seared asparagus, cumin carrot puree, cippolini onions, and port sauce), the Maryland Rockfish (with artichoke barigoule, carrots, brasied fennel, and noilly prat sauce), and the Local Roasted Chicken (with English peas, carrots, baby potatoes, and truffle jus). If you want to sop up your sauce with bread, don't forget to order the breadbasket! Staff were friendly and checked-in on our party throughout our dining experience; the place is cozy and vibrant, and seems to be pretty popular. I'd be curious to try their HH on the next visit! +French bistro eats +shareables +friendly staff & service
