My only real critique isn't about the store itself, but more about how Amazon's pricing power can make it difficult for small businesses to compete, making this store feel prohibitively exspenive for a college student (especially for one who has free access to the Paterno Library).

My husband can never pass up the change to check out a book store so we stopped in and were greeted by a friendly cashier and quite a large selection of books. Very clean and bright, its a quiet but quaint store that offers best sellers, value books, and a surprising amount of Japanese/high quality notebooks, stationary and pens. I did hear several people asking about what books they carried and the cashier was able to pull books for them or offer let them know when the book was in stock so I imagine they're still getting a feel for what stock to carry. I picked up 2 books from the recommended wall that piqued my interest and look foreword to reading them. Price wise they sell for retail price so on par with the big box stores, so I'd rather support a small business. Its also eerily quiet inside so I'd like some soft background music otherwise I was able to hear every conversation around me. Other than that its a cute small book store in the heart of state college. A nice addition I look forward to visiting on our next trip up

But also like many independent bookstores like this, you can the feel for the down to earth community where people just are. I came in for a morning coffee and to browse the books. I was impressed by the young barista's skill in making a latte to my preferences, and it was really nice to weave my way around the shelves to see what an algorithm recommendation would normally miss. Not sure about the food, but the book space and coffee are on point.

This store is supposed to be one of the smallest in the chain, but doesn't show it. Large selection of books, comics, DVD/Blu-ray's, and toys/collectables. If you don't know about 2nd & Charles, most of the items are used trade-ins from other customers, so you can never be sure what will be in stock. We had several questions about prices of items behind the counter which were quickly answered and the employees were helpful. Had a good selection of Manga but a smaller selection of Anime DVD/Blu-ray's. A large selection of comic longboxes were available, but per other 2nd & Charles their organization was not the best. Overall, store was clean and organized with an on-par selection of items compared to other stores. I would return here again.

I have been touring local booksellers in Cumberland county, and I was delighted to discover the…read moreBook Junction. I went to Shippensburg University and worked in this town for seven years, and never once did I find my way into this shop, but I am so glad that I found it now. It's hidden back an alleyway, and while there's a small sign out front that you can see from the street, you need to know where it is or you'll miss it. The selection available at the Book Junction is truly the best in any shop I've visited. I walked in looking specifically for one book (Neuromancer by William Gibson), and not only did I find it (seriously I've visited 8 other bookstores including Barnes and Noble and none had it), but I also found books five OTHER classic science fiction books I'd been unable to find elsewhere too. Paperback books are generally priced half off of whatever the publisher's price was on the book, which is pretty reasonable. The owner told me this mom and pop shop has been open for 23 years this year. Do yourself a favor and go check the Book Junction out. It's one of the absolute best I've come across and you won't be disappointed!

While shopping at the DuBois Mall, I stopped in at Bradley's Book Outlet which also has several…read morelocations in Western PA and Youngstown OH (Southern Park Mall). This store carries new current books and magazines, and plenty of publisher overstocks and remainders at 40%-60%-80% & more off, plus 20%-30% off current New York Times paperback & hardcover bestsellers, 15% off all special orders and 10% off all hardcover new releases. They also stock Melissa & Doug items in the back of the store with infant & toddler books. There are $1 books and special items too. I spent a good amount of time at this Bradley's Book Outlet browsing through the various travel books (some a few years old) which were all deeply discounted. There were several Europe and Florida travel guides on the shelf and they also stock discounted "For Dummies" business books too. I picked up a few travel journal books for light reading, which were less than $5 each. I also purchased an Urban Dictionary and a Roadside Americana book for under $10. I would keep returning to this Bradley's Books and their other locations to browse the changing selection of discounted books. You'll never know what you'll find here!
