This is located near the Apple Store and is easy to park. In fact parking is free if you get them to stamp your ticket. I usually come here when charging my car and it's always great to browse the books. I never had any issue with the service while buying books and I think things are decently priced here, though hard for me to compare considering I don't buy many books. One thing to note is that the coffee store is not a Starbucks so don't expect to get Starbucks treatment. I went around 6 and they refused to open a bag of beans because it was too late. I don't think opening a bag of beans would have made a difference but ends up I had to drink coffee that I didn't really want. read more

As the number of physical locations dwindles (no more store in Washington DC at all), I make a point to go to the brick and mortar locations when I can. This store is convenient to the Clarendon Metro, about a 10 minute walk from the station. The store itself is huge, two stories, along with a cafe inside. They carry a large selection of books, along with the usual Barnes & Noble staple of a huge discounted section of remainders of printing runs. They discount new releases and books on the bestseller lists, with additional discounts if you are in their membership program. They also have a large section of games and toys on the second floor, and a media section with DVDs and CDs. The layout is organized and the shelves are kept neatly which is always appreciated. The staff is always helpful without being intrusive. They've ordered books for me, provided recommendations, and helped me find a book at another location when they didn't have one in stock. Kudos to them for making a positive experience even better. I also patronize independent bookstores along with Barnes & Noble. I want physical bookstores in areas vs just ordering everything online. As Barnes & Noble is one of the last bookstore chains in the country and in many areas the only bookstore available, I try to do my part by patronizing them. Off my soapbox now. read more

I still prefer a local bookstore over Barnes & Noble, but as far as big chain book stores go: this one is awesome. This Barnes and Noble is located in a great spot, with lots of other shops around. Staff members were very helpful in helping find a book on gluten free way of life. I want to also give a shout out for the cool Star Wars display, which I hadn't seen in the Barnes and Noble in RVA. Also, young parents can come here and read a book or two, and get a well deserved coffee. There is a really nice playground conveniently located right in front of the bookstore. The kids section is located on the 2nd floor, and so are the restrooms. read more

I like this location because they taken the middle peace of the security. I can get my wheelchair in the door with out getting up. As always the have limited seating. With Starbucks coffee. With there free wifi. Food sales and also there soup of the day.They have special tea they sale but Starbucks don't. They have a lot of book for sales but having a nook and Kendle Fire I download my books. But there book are not downloadable. Great customer service. Alway ready to help. There a club card that I don't use that much and I don't what to pay $20.00 for a card. If I what to go to a Barns and Noble go to here or Tyson's Corner Mall. Are you sick of your Kindle? If so come check out this place. I prefer old-fashioned books don't ask me why. I guess because I grew up with a large library at home. Books were always my happy place. This Barnes & Noble is staffed very friendly helpful people. If you can't find what you're looking for someone will assist you. They don't have the book you want there happy to order for you and call you when it comes in. This Barnes & Noble is equipped with the café at carries some Starbucks items. Their cheesecake is amazing. Don't miss out. In the winter and fall they have pumpkin cheesecake that is to die for. I always buy a few slices for later. This location never gets to terribly crowded. Finding parking can be tricky sometimes. But if you can't find anything on the street there's a garage nearby,use it. I've seen books range from $5-$150. The expensive ones are usually the huge wonderful coffee table books. Nice rebuy your favorite author will probably be about $14. I've also found some obscure books at this location. They proved to be an excellent read. This location also has a great magazine collection. The topics range from art science technology architecture and more. Next time you need to study check out Barnes & Noble's and grab a drink at the café. read more

With no Barnes and Noble stores left in DC proper, this might be the nearest one. It's conveniently located close to the Clarendon metro and the 38B busline. The selection of books is good. I enjoy browsing the cosy mysteries, science fiction, pet books, women's studies, and social science books. You never know what you will find among their quality remainder books. The few times I have asked for help, the staff has been very nice and helpful. On my last visit, I had checked to see if they had a book I was reading for a book group. It said it was available on the web, but I couldn't find it in the two subject areas I thought it might be in. I asked and it turned out it was back in the staff area, waiting to be shelved, so make sure to ask if you can't find something. They might be able to find it for you. read more

GREAT travel section! They've always had the books I've needed to get for vacation and learning a few words in a new language. The upstairs is where this bookstore really shines. B&N keeps the current affairs/political section fresh with something new and interesting always popping up on the shelf. Parked in a tiny underground garage nearby at a predictable price. We couldn't walk 10 feet without tripping over a staff member staring at Tom's rugged good looks and asking if she could help us (really, him). Language book selection was okay and they were quick to look up outdated book series for us and offer branch ordering. Travel guide section a little sparser than expected, but at least the magazine rack had a decent spectrum laid out. Skimmed my usual fiction shelves and no heavy complaints there, but I wasn't shopping for anything in particular that day anyways. read more

I've had a B&N membership for many years, and while I no longer read as much as I used to, I still renew it year after year because of its benefits. My family uses my membership too and all they have to give is my phone number. During this visit, I learned that the Starbucks cafe in this B&N accepts the membership card for discounts as well. I don't think the cafe advertises it but the barista who took my order happened to ask me if I had one. I think he was surprised when I produced my membership card for him to swipe. I guess not a lot of people take advantage of this discount. The lady working the information center was helpful and located a book for me. At checkout, B&N understands impulse buying as there is a plate of quarter-pound cookies for $1.95 each. This site might not be as big as other B&N sites, but it still provides the same atmosphere that makes it a Barnes and Noble. read more

While waiting for my new tires to be put on, I decided to wander around Barnes and Noble for a bit. After finding an awesome trivia book on the discount rack, I made my way upstairs to check out the real literature. I had over an hour to kill and noticed a bunch of big comfy-looking chairs facing out on to "scenic" (hah) Clarendon. I picked up a Christopher Moore novel and settled in, only interrupted once by an employee coming by to see if I'd like to sample their new peppermint mocha. Sean C.'s review pretty much sums it up... even with two floors, it feels really small. I live in Ballston and B and N is my closest bookstore. That being said, if I ever need a book I will always head out to a Borders instead, even though both in my area are farther away. I mean, the selection isn't paltry, but it steers heavily towards bestsellers, so whatever you're looking for better be on the NY Times bestseller list. Their DVD and CD section isn't the greatest either. That may be a B and N thang, 'cause every other one I've been to has a much smaller selection than Borders. That's why I like Borders better. Even if I can't find a book I want (rare), I'll usually be able to find a new album or DVD to add to my collection. Plus their computer terminals are relatively well-hidden and deceptive. I was looking for a particular book while trying to kill some time before an appoinment nearby, and used their computer system to see if I could find a certain book. Huzzah! It was in stock, according to their system. So naturally I'm a little surprised when I can't find it on the shelf. Could someone have bought the last copy in the past few minutes? No, I discovered: it turns out "in stock" just means it's in a regional B and N, in this case, New Jersey. Makes perfect sense, right? At Borders, they're easy to find and generally accurate as to inventory. Plus this particular B and N is in a section of Clarendon that pays homage to all things yuppie (yeah, I'm being redundant, huh?), and I'm about as comfortable in such surroundings as a vampire at High Mass. Today's forecast calls for scattered khaki storms with an occasional sundress flareup. The verdict: Borders. 'Nuff said. read more

In the midst of Clarendon craziness B & N seems like a sanctuary of quiet and knowledge--you know, like the library, but nicer cuz the books aren't all sneezed on, etc. Each time I come, I always lose track of time. It's a great place to take a break, browse some new titles, or even grab a beverage to mull over. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's also a good place to wait if your friends are running late--sheltered from the weather, temperature controlled, and reading material-= nice. read more

This Barnes and Noble location is tucked away in Clarendon past the Pottery Barn and Apple store which tend to sucker in the local shopping crowd. The book selection is always great and the sales associate are always very helpful and eager to answer any questions you may have and are very knowledgeable. Books, magazines, Nook's, stationary, and bit more. The Starbucks in the store is not associated with the chain in that you can't use your Starbucks's card to make a purchase but the drinks/food were on par with the typical chains. They have several tables set up and free wi-fi offered for everyone. I've found it noisy for focusing on work but others use it as a meeting spot for work/studying. Parking is not easy in this area, a parking garage is near by however charges to park on a hourly basis. I think I'm a bit spoiled with free parking in a lot of other areas around D.M.V. (DC, Maryland, Virginia) so I have a hard time paying for something when I know I can get it elsewhere for free. The Clarendon metro stop would be the closest stop to get off if that's your mode of transportation, bike racks are also located outside. read more

This place has been here a long time and a true staple of the Clarendon area. I've lived here all my life and they truly do have a nice environment to immerse yourself in books, music, and if you really need it, a decent selection of toys. For the people who want a beverage your'e in luck! There is a Starbucks cafe inside and if you buy something from the store there's a high chance they'll give you a coupon for a cookie in the cafe or something. Keep in mid that the cafe accepts payment from the Barnes & Noble gifts cards not the generic Starbucks gift cards. Seriously, there is one down the street if you want to use that Starbucks card. Attended Story Time last weekend at this location. Sadly there are not many bookstores in/near Herndon. Story time for this day/time was geared towards kiddo's under 5 I believe. There were quite a few kids/parents for a decent weather day. A dad said the place is packed when it's raining empty when the sun is out. We were pretty packed for decent day so I'm pretty sure this is a popular event. We noticed there were some regulars and the lady who read the stories knew a few of the kids and some of their favorite parts of the event. The lady was wonderful, she read the stories as if she were reading to her own kids. She tolerated the few wonderers, and even skimmed over the chatting. After 4 short stories, the kids were offered coloring pages, crayons, and some glue sticks for a craft. The sang a few songs and the kids interacted w/ other kids and the parents. Other parents were very nice and pretty much kept their kids close. We will definitely come back for more kids events in the future. Oh and it's free, even better! read more

I don't like parking in this area of Clarendon, so if I need a bookstore I'll opt Potomac Yards. If I'm in this area for another reason (like enjoying delicious ice cream across the street), I'll pop in here to see what's up. This is an OK Barnes and Noble. I've gotten good coffee in the cafe, the staff has been helpful finding books. The downsides - it is relatively small for a BNN, thus not as wide a selection as other locations. Also, this is only for those with kids who like to play with trains, it is a signature element of BNN that they have out a play table with wooden Thomas trains on it for kids to play with. At this location there are almost no trains. I think there are maybe 3 train cars and they are very worn. NOTE/UPDATE: Another Yelper has pointed out to me that the explanation for the lack of trains might be the recent recall on Thomas trains. I feel that my experience with the trains at this BNN predates the recall. read more

I love this place! In the center of Clarendon and has a very attractive view of the courtyard from upstairs. I frequent this location, staying mostly upstairs for about an hour or two picking out a book. I certainly wish there were more chairs upstairs for people to lounge, most people sit on the window sills which are very uncomfortable. It's not my favorite bookstore anymore but it still feeds my literary soul when I need it. There's a cafe which I never check out; a section that carries Nooks, and a a couple of shelves of sale books. I personally like the two floor layout with large windows, which makes it feel expansive. I give it three stars because I feel stressed out when I'm here. I come in to read and/or escape the Clarendon madness but then there's so much going on inside too. Plus, the sale books aren't that great. On the other hand, workers here are pleasant and friendly, very polite. Great job, B&N staff! read more

I am a Barnes & Noble fanatic, and I almost never leave a B&N without a book or three. However, I must say that the Clarendon store isn't my favorite. Despite the two floors, the store seems smaller and more cramped than other Barnes & Noble locations. Attempting to park in Clarendon is always a hassle. This B&N, like most of the other shops in that particular shopping center, will stamp your parking garage ticket for a 50% discount. Unless I am going to shop at the other stores in the shopping center, I generally avoid the hassle. read more

I love this Barnes & Noble location! It's my favorite one in the Northern VA area! Its in a great location in Clarendon. I believe it serves as the main anchor for Market Common Clarendon. It can get crowded here on the weekends. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. I like how this location has two floors.
