I was going to go to AAA tomorrow when the office was open to get a map but then wondered if maybe Barnes and Noble had one? I walked in and went to the international travel section and saw travel books but not maps. On the off chance that they might have them, I went to the customer service desk. April quickly looked it up for me and walked me over to the other side of the same shelf, straight to the laminated map that I was looking for. Thanks, April! And thanks staff person in front who helped me out! I like everything about this Barnes & Noble, especially the people working there, but can management do something about the dingy old bathroom? My visit here was brief but pleasant. Good size Barnes and noble and I love visiting Barnes typically in search for new board games. I didn't have time to do so this visit but there was no unpleasantness when I came in to use the wifi for work and their values seem to be standard. I love the staff here... but of COURSE I do! I am a bibliophile and I must think that they hire fellow bibliophiles to work here. Although I am a HUGE fan of Independent bookstores. I acknowledge that B&N are also keeping people in our community employed as well as allowing us to have access to the main stream authors and book campaigns. I went in a couple of weeks ago with the intention to check on an earlier book from author Chris Whitaker and OMG... they actually had it on their shelves!! They have stepped up their stationary game, toys, board games, journals and this location has the movie and music section too. Entire staffing team rudely complained about our group "blocking" one of the isles when we were all looking to purchase something. When we expressed how that made us feel they made up some ridiculous story about how others were "complaining" about us blocking the isle. No one had came by the entire time we were there and if someone had walked through we would have had no trouble politely stepping aside for them to also browse. Do not recommend this location unless you want to be policed by the staff on where youre allowed to stand while discussing literature with others. Staff at Barnes is good! The staff at inside Starbucks is a negative they lack f as t clerks or baristas they take so long to take one order even in a line of 2 people. Visited on Saturday, 07/09/22. This Barnes and Noble store has been in existence ever since I was in elementary or middle school. This bookstore brings in so many nostalgic memories - I would purchase my books here for my AP English class back in high school and hang out with friends here. I am glad this bookstore is still around as it truly is a huge part of the Montclair Place Mall (formerly called Montclair Plaza). This bookstore has it all - I am a huge birdie fanatic, so to see so many books regarding birds makes me happy! There is a restroom inside the bookstore as well as a Starbucks (keep in mind that you cannot use a Starbucks gift card since the bookstore owns this coffee shop). Additionally, the pastries in this Starbucks is different than the other Starbucks in the ball next to JC Penney. This Starbucks offers cakes and pastries from Cheesecake Factory. Overall 5/5. You can literally spend hours here window shopping and reading books! read more

The cafe baristas are terrible. I order small coffee. Mind you to make it you only have to grab the cup, put it under the urn, pull the lever up till full then give it to me. That takes them 20 mins. They do everything but my 1 min order. read more

I love bookstores and I shop often at this store but today I was disappointed. The employees seemed like they didn't want to be there and if you walked towards them to ask a question they would walk the other way. As an avid book shopper and regular patron of your store I know where all the books are located but for shoppers who aren't familiar with this store having employees walk the other way as you are about to ask a question is downright rude. The bathrooms were gross. No toilet seat covers, trash cans overflowing, leaking faucet, toilet seat covers and toilet paper on the floor. I wish I could've taken a photo of the smell in there. It was DISGUSTING and smelled of urine. By the smell it seems like they haven't been disinfected and mopped in weeks. Maybe the health department should visit them. read more

The Barnes & Nobel in Montlclair is pretty similar to most branches, but I did find this one to be very clean, organized well and the customer support were pretty helpful. We went in to find a book and a a few other things. They do have a Starbucks inside the store as well. I like the way all the sections are broken down so its easy to find things, and the Montclair mall is a nice shopping mall as well. They have a lot of parking outside the store, and during this time they had some construction going on. I am not quite sure what that was for, but it was not a problem. Overall, been to many of the B&N branches and this one was pretty good. The only problem I have had with this store as well as others (Chino Hills for example) is it takes very long to buy things, even if you are only buying one item and even if it is for cash. The process seems to be slow, and again, not sure why. Something I have noticed is all. P.S they did give us a coupon discount for the Starbucks :) read more

This was my other go-to 'Barnes & Noble' Bookstore out in the IE area in Montclaire Plaza. It's so clever now someone named 'Claremont,' and 'Montclaire,' as being neighborhood cities. I used to hang out here too before the Pandemic~but since everything went online and 'Kindle' off Amazon tablets, I haven't gone back. But my next closest B&N would be the Chino Hills branch....please do keep these alive since we already lost the entire chain of 'Borders.' My favorite sections would be magazines and Classics. read more

Normally the store is always clean, books can always be found where they are supposed to be and there is also a big selection of them. Employees don't normally acknowledge any customers. I noticed this after like the 5th time we came in. Also the Starbucks is a huge no. They either don't have certain ingredients at all, or they have very limited amounts and will intentionally make your drink wrong so that the ingredients will last. You're my only hope when it comes to any reasonable boutique Blu-Ray selection in the area since the Barnes & Noble in Chino Hills gutted their Movies & Music section and replaced it with board games, toys & collectibles. Gonna be counting on you to stay stocked on your Criterion Collection Blu-Rays (especially during the 50% off sales in November and March). Do this for me, will ya?! Banned from the store 2 years ago during the byob (bring your own bag) time when they didn't have bags. He put the books he was paying for in his bag. My boyfriend was heading up to the register to pay for his books and the manager accused him of stealing. And I was banned as well. My boyfriend has high functioning autism. This location doesn't seem very accepting of people with disabilities. All my boyfriend wanted was to buy his books. We are both permanently banned. But another person stole something from the store and the manager said nothing to them. The manager is racist against white people. She kicked another white couple out as well. Do not recommend this location at all. You are better off going to Glendora, or Chino Hills. read more

The store at this location did have a wide selection as the building seemed a bit large. There was a group enjoy a coffee outside patio discussing characters such as the Gingerbread man from Shrek, Ariel from the Little Mermaid and Bella could have been from the Beauty and the Beast or Lion King. Borders was wayyyy better. The staff here is hit or miss, I guess depending on their mood that day. The cafe staff is atrocious and not helpful at all. Let me start this by saying when it comes to having your order shipped to your house they can't control the post office. Here's what they could've done. They could've tried to find out why they drove my order past my house. They could've offered to refund and/or reship my order (because last time I checked sending something expedited doesn't mean an entire week with the delivery date constantly moving further and further out. They could've had better customer service than transferring me to 3 different people all equally as useless as the first. Here's what they actually did. They transferred me to 3 different people finally settling on a manager (didn't tell her why, I basically had to tell the same story to three different people). All she told me is "I can't control the post office". Yea thank you I'm more than aware that Barnes and noble doesn't control the post office. I asked her at what point do I call and ask for a refund since my package has been sent well past my house at this point. Her response was there's nothing we can do until the post office marks the package as lost. Fascinating because they were more than willing to take my money in a timely manner but can't deliver my product. I will just be ordering my books from Amazon from now on. It was adequate. Barnes & Noble knows it will be buying its own book, "The Idiot's Guide to Filing Bankruptcy" if some serious changes to their merchandise don't occur. And it seems they've done so here. Since no one buys or likes real books anymore, they have a decent selection of games, cards, novelties, and other things that are far less cumbersome than taking hours to read a real book. Thankful this place still exists. In a world were you can access everything from your cellphone, it's nice to know that the ol' ink and paper stores can still turn a profit. I've been an ample reader in seasons of my life, but now enjoy quicker reads and magazines. I love that I can peruse both here. They also have a wonderful travel section, information section, music area, toy area and more! I come here often with my kids and they are able to play in the designated kids area and see some of their favorite books, while discovering new ones. Every time I am obligated to go to barnes and nobles, I am reminded of how much i LOVE borders :( This place gives off the facade that it is a good "study environment" but I disagree. I tried to study here before, and it is a fail. First off, it is connected to the mall. People use B&N as an entrance, and there are some really ghetto people here. They are loud and noisy and their kids run all over the place. Second, their tables are limited and they barely having working outlets. And even if you're lucky enough to swoop an outlet, you have to be literally next to it (on the couch -_-) or else they come over and tell you it is a fire hazard. And in order to even sit in this area. You MUST purchase a beverage from their joint starbucks. I am a fan of starbucks, BUT this location does not accept starbucks gift cards or my starbucks gold card. so it totally defeats the purpose of a starbucks. The drunks are usually flawed and somehow just lacking. To continue, the service... so horrible -_-' My most current complaint would be regarding the phone call I just made to barnes and noble. I called in at 8:59am and they COULD HAVE left me on the line for a minute if they were busy, but instead they picked it up, just to tell me they're in a meeting... and that I should call back during their OPENING hours -_- ohhhh one minute?? jeeezzz... ... ... way to be helpful being desperate since i needed a book for my comparative analysis paper.. i called back to be put ON HOLD -_-' ohh joyy.. .. .. .. still on hold ... weird background music throughout the "hold" process... omg now that she's back on the line.. she doesnt know how to spell Seneca!!!! A lot of very stinky people apparently frequent this store. Over Christmas I had the misfortune of standing in the vicinity of a homeless guy who really reeked. I am sorry, I know I am being insensitive, but man, it really was disgusting and I almost vomited from the strength of the odor. I could almost see a haze. I got outta there fast. Recently, I was there again, in Starbucks, and walking to get my order I smell something putrid, and again, the stench of unwashed bodies hit me full force. Someone, and I couldn't tell who this time, was seriously spreading disease. Pity the poor customer who sits in that chair next. Gag... Look, I get it, these people maybe have nowhere to go, but isn't it in the store management's interest to make the experience pleasant (not to mention SAFE) for the PAYING PATRONS? This isn't a homeless shelter but it sure smells like one. For goodness sake, BN if you are listening, you would throw out loud teenagers or vandals who were wrecking the store, why not have the bravery to protect your customers and have a chat with the stinky people? I was surprised to see only a few stars on this location. I have to say that for about 15 years they have been a huge support during my teaching career and throughout my own children's education. They usually have every book in stock, anticipate required reading from the local schools, and always offer to find the book elsewhere if not in their store. I love this Barnes and Noble! They have a greater stock of books than the other Barnes and Noble store around. The workers all seem to be avid readers and always have great recommendations! read more
