I love coming to this Barnes & Noble location. Their staff is great and this location always has the books I'm looking for. Their cafe is also really great. Friends and I were in the shopping plaza that this Barnes and Noble was in. We stopped in to use their bathroom, but also checked out some of their books and offerings. Spent a lot of time at the manga section, and it's very impressive! I haven't really been in a Barnes and Noble since high school, so it was kind of nostalgic to be in one again despite me never being to this specific location, haha. It was cool to see such an expanded manga section, and that they even had more obscure titles and webtoons on offer. For the most part everything was clean and orderly, and fairly quiet too despite all the people. Didn't make a purchase myself, but a friend of mine walked away with two mangas on our visit. read more

I was very disappointed with the customer service I received during my visit today around 2:00 p.m. Unfortunately, I did not get the cashier's name, but the older woman working the register displayed what I felt was a very unfriendly and unprofessional attitude. When my Apple Pay was not processing correctly, instead of offering assistance or patience, she appeared visibly annoyed, rolled her eyes, and made me feel as though the issue was somehow my fault. Technical issues can happen, and customers should not be made to feel embarrassed or inconvenienced because of them. I understand that everyone can have a difficult day, but working with the public requires a certain level of courtesy, professionalism, and respect. My experience today fell far below those expectations and left a very negative impression. I probably won't be coming to this location anymore or simply avoid this employee. read more

The grand daughter works next door to this store so i dropped in looking for some books on different topics. With such a huge selection of books it was easy to find many books that caught my interest. I especially had fun in the bargain books section. So many good buys. The bookstore itself is fine and the lady who helped us very friendly. As a parent, I did not appreciate some of the displays of books they had. Because children's section is all the way in the back, it requires you to pass through the front section and when purchasing the book, you have to stand in front of the magazine stands. I love book stores in general. But there's one particular staff member who may be the manager who is just the kindest! I apologize as I don't remember his name. He is always pleasant to my kids and very helpful when I have questions. This location is always clean, even online order pick ups are easy and I usually find what I'm looking for. I have held my membership with B&N for over 15 years and have been a frequent customer for the past 25 years and have never had an issue at any location. Until last Tuesday when I visited the Chino Hills location with my daughter. My daughter was casually testing out a Bluey drum set before purchasing placed on the lower shelf when we were approached by "Jess" a B&N employee. Jess loudly exclaimed, "She can't do that she will break it; and we can't sell it." I was appauled by the lack of professionalism by Jess. My daughter was not smashing or kicking the toy she was simply pushing the drum set with an open hand. Keep in mind my daughter is 2 years old and her hand barely fits around my thumb. Jess later stood near a bookshelf and stared at us making me very uncomfortable while everyone in the store was looking at us after her approach. I spoke to the assistant manager on duty named, Ceci and she was very professional and apologetic about the situation and explained she would speak to Jess and fellow associates to properly handle situations. I feel discriminated and harrased because there were several teenagers laying around the bookstore blocking shelves on their phones and nothing was said to them. I discussed this with the ASM and she agreed it was also inappropriate. My daughter was discrimated solely on her age. I have contacted corporate and will not let this go until there is proper training in place and to ensure no other family has to be publicly humiliated by the lack of customer service. read more

This Barnes and Noble, at 'The Shoppes,' in Chino HIlls--with the Barnes and Noble in Glendora--is one of the only few bookstores left within the local area. Like the Glendora one, there's also a Starbucks inside this one. Some people don't know this, but there's a lot of extra parking on the south side of The Shoppes, in the multi-level parking structure (somewhat adjacent to the post office--on the Trader Joe's side). I think other than this location, from what I can think of, the closest Barnes and Noble from the Chino Hills and Glendora locations are at Glendale Americana and Irvine Spectrum--which are over 30 miles away. Anyway, these bookstores are a throwback to growing up, when there used to be many more bookstores, including mom-and-pop ones, as well as the Borders bookstores. As I perused through this particular Barnes and Noble, I noticed that the politics section is now very small--which, given the times, is an important genre of discussion, I would think. When I was in high school and college, the politics section was an entire aisle! It's a little troubling the more I think about this. Same thing when you go to Target nowadays--a very small political selection, all of the reading skewed toward right-wing or equally shallow/superficial "safe" centrist ideologies. I'm a fan of bookstores so I'll be honest - the bar to 5 stars with me if you're a book store is a bit low. HOWEVER - this one was especially great because we went in and picked up 2 books that were "buy one get another 50% off" and didn't realize until after we'd left the store that the discount wasn't applied. We went back 5 minutes before closing and did not know what to expect, but the person at the door immediately guessed why we were there, directed us to customer service to avoid the line and even radio'd ahead to ensure they were ready for us when we got there. Took the kiddos here for some books. My son has been looking high and low for a particular LOTR book and didn't want to order online thru Amazon. Sometimes it's good to just go to a brick and mortar store and be present with items that you can physically hold and see. Welp, it's safe to say that they did in fact have the book we were looking for, and for a pretty good deal ! What I didn't know is they had a Starbucks inside, so next time the kiddos want to go look at books, the wife and I can take them and sit and enjoy some coffee while we wait!! I checked in today with my History Nerd Friend Travis and we both had such an Amazing time!! Both Travis and I haven't been to a Barnes in Nobles in YEARS and after dining at Rock N Brews in the same Plaza we decided to walk off our Calories at B&N and I'm so thankful we did!!! From the moment we walked in the Door the Cave was beautifully Arranged and organized like Joe Goldberg Paradise!!! The Temperature was perfect and cozy to complement the Cold Weather outside and all our senses were Magically Tickled by such a vast and heavenly Selection of Music, Literature, and Toys for all Ages!! The Guest Help Desk was conveniently located in the Center for us to ask where the History Section was, and the Team Member behind the Screen was so Professionally Kind, Pleasant, and Helpful! Travis and I happily explored the whole Cave and thought the painting of all the Literary Legends at the Starbucks Cafe inside was incredibly Charming too! He found a Super Fun and Engaging Book on Military History Weapons He loved in the Bargain Section and I stocked up on a new R.H. Sin Treasure to sooth my Heartbreak Blues as well as two History books on Mao and the Battle of Manila. On my way to the Checkout Aisle I found a Artistically Chic and Affirming Lone Wolf X-Men Power Book Mark for only two Dollars too! Michelle was the B&N Magic Guardian who rang me up and she made the whole Checkout Experience so warm and playfully healing too! Michelle kindly followed up on the quality of my Experience and let me delight on my Ecstatically Sexy Discoveries with her, and also shared with me the current Fictional Romance Book she was currently savoring as well! One of my favorite stores as my daughter and I LOVE to read and we are frequent shoppers. Everything about this store is great. The location, cleanliness, fully stocked, organized etc.. During my recent visit, two ladies were in the check out line and one was coughing and coughing. Everyone backed away from this lady while her friend laughed and laughed. "Is this a joke?? " was my initial thought. Both ladies were not wearing masks. I will not go on and on about mask wearing (or not!) bcos I know it is a touchy subject for some. The only issue I have is that if you have clearly, posted signs on the entrance doors stating, "masks are required", that a system be in place for those refusing to follow your store rules and protecting your customers following your store policy. I absolutely love this place! I consider this my second home. The staff is always so helpful and kind. Not only do they carry so many books, but they have board games for the family, vinyl records and music, movies (many unique and hard to find ones), as well as collectible trading cards for all sports. And of course, a Starbucks inside. This store literally has everything! I'd give 10 stars if I could. I hope they never leave or close like some book stores have done. I frequented 'Barnes & Noble,' as well prior to the Pandemic because I like 'The Shoppes at Chino Hills.' There are several stores and B&N I can make multiple visits to except till everything went apparently online based, even with Kindle off your Amazon Tablet. I'm shocked B&N is still alive here in Chino Hills whilst the entire chain of 'Borders' went outta biz which was scary and sad at the same time. Man.....I wished Borders never went outta biz though. Kudos to B&N still hanging on. It's been awhile but next time I drive back to 'The Shoppes,' will stop by. B&N makes a great hang out meeting spot with friends. I absolutely love this Barnes and Noble. Currently on maternity leave and I enjoy bringing my daughter and baby boy here for some out of the house time. We come at least once a week and our first stop is the Starbucks in Barnes and Noble. The last two visits the young lady that opens has a serious attitude problem. She just stands there staring at you with no greeting no smile just "what can I get for you?" In an annoyed tone. The last couple times she looks very irritated to be working which I find very awkward to even order. This morning we went in at 10:30 and she was in an irritated mood as I ordered. I feel that she realized how rude she came off cause she then told my 3 year old hi and smiled at her to try and make the situation less awkward but too late let me just get my iced matcha and we'll be out of your way. read more

This location is neatly organized and also has a Starbucks cafe, so you can grab a tea or coffee with your books. Barnes and Noble also released some classic titles (e.g. The Raven, Alice in Wonderland, The Prince, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Pride and Prejudice, etc.) in exclusive soft covers. I like coming to this store mostly because i love the mall :) This is located in The Shoppes Mall and i always come into here to check out new books of interest. I bought one of the Game of Thrones books (A song of fire an ice - #4). I find this store to be very clean and well organized. They have a nice central help desk. They have recommended books to me based on authors i like such as Thomas Harris and James Mitchner. I once got a book called Pillars of the Earth and turned out to be one of my favorite books of all time. The only ding I would give this store is that the check out lines are often very long and seem to take a long time for each customer. I am not sure why that is, but everything else about this store is great, especially the location! read more

Last of the many bookstores. I've always liked to have a physical book when cooking or doing crafts. Today I came in for a macrame book. I was disappointed that they only had two but that is no fault of the store because so much info can be found online. There was one service person and she was running here and there keeping up with the few customers. When I first asked about books she was unfamiliar so quickly helped by looking in computer. The store has a Starbucks (nice) you can read and sip coffee in comfortable surroundings. Only reason this wasn't a five is because what I came to find wasn't there ;) read more

This might not be the store's fault, but there are many self-centered people who use the children's area as if it were a library. They sit on the floor,read, and leave the place a mess, with no intention to purchase. This leaves customers having to step over people to find a book that ends up being not in new condition. The public library is just a short walk from this B & N! read more

This Barnes & Noble bookstore is located at The Shoppes At Chino Hills Plaza. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon, to just use the restroom since Icy-Licious further down does not have public restrooms (and you know caffeine makes you urinate). The girl at Icy-Licious actually suggested that I use the restroom here. Well as I was walking towards the restroom (at the back of the store), I saw a small section of Lunar New Year books on a shelf (this was a few weeks before the new year). What really peaked my interest was the bilingual (Chinese and English) baby book about the 12 zodiac animals. I thought that would be a perfect book for my nephew (who is now 2 years old). So after using the restroom, I picked up a book and headed towards the register. At the register, the employee behind the counter had highly suggested Pig The Pug book, which was on display at the counter. He said that Barnes & Noble is currently selling this book at 50% off just to promote the book. He had said that during story time in the store, children had repeatedly said how they liked this book the best of the books he had read. I looked over the book and decided to pick it up for my nephew too (I am such a sucker for dogs). The employee at the register was very friendly and answered my questions regarding joining membership ($25 a year with numerous of savings throughout the year). This membership is helpful if you purchase a lot from Barnes and Noble. Being the big nerd that I am, I ended up getting it and he helped enroll me. The employee also told me of numerous of events that this store has that is just for members and also just in general, that is for everyone. Weeks later, when I went to nephew's house for our Lunar New Year dinner, he was very excited for his 2 presents (lucky me I can still get away with not giving him a red envelop) and had my husband read to him immediately. He also had my sister in law read to him and my mother, especially the bilingual book. He really loved Pug The Pig book and am so glad I ended up buying it for him (quite a funny book for kids, in case you are looking for a gift for a little one in your life). My nephew is such a reader (takes after his nerdy aunt I suppose, lol) and plan on buying him books from Barnes and Noble in the future. read more

Things I love: - They still have tons of books for you to browse. I always like to look at their self-development section. They also have a large section of books for children! - They re-organize each section so that people could better socially distanced. - There is a Cafe in there as well. They serve Starbucks and also some cakes from Cheesecake Factory. Things that could improve: - The seating area in the Cafe is a bit dirty. I don't think they are wiping off the tables at all. - The people working at the Cafe were not the friendliest for some reason. - No seats outside of the Cafe. It seems like they could have position some chairs apart so that people could socially distanced and still be able to read a book there, but they simply remove all the seats in the actual bookstore section. read more

Ordered a signed book over the phone for shipping to my home and they charged me $5.00 shipping fee to deliver the book even though shipping should be free for members. I didn't even see that they charged me the shipping fee until after I received the book and receipt in the mail! Kamaryn refuses to refund me the $5.00 fee and won't even issue a courtesy credit back to me, even though 2 other bArnes & nobles I've used all sent me books under free shipping as I am a bArnes & noble member. It just doesn't seem right that other bArnes stores provide free shipping from their store on books but this Chino Hills store does not. It's something that can be rectified so easily yet they refuse to do so & erroneously took my $5.00. I'm disappointed in this store and the type of customer service they provide here.
