Staff is always friendly and helpful! I could spend hours in this place. They have a great selection of random finds as well as books of course. I actually got a large amount of Christmas gifts from here, toys, books, journals.. you name it. It's one of my favorite places! (that's the bookworm in me talking). My only complaint is the bathroom is kinda shoddy, one sink didn't work last time i was there. And there was paper towels all over the floor and i do wish the store itself was larger. Stopped by here since I was going movie to grab my favorite refresher the dragonfruit with lemonade well when I first tried it I was like not bad then I quickly realized it was more ice and lemonade juice than the actual more and hardly any dragonfruit. The service was okay the value was disappointing $7 something with taxes for a Trenta but the actual Starbucks location it's high $6 for final price fur a Trenta. read more

Don't judge a B&N by it's cover. Yes, although this is a smaller bookstore than most of its counterparts, it's big on customer service and comfort. In every nook and cranny, I saw people cozied into chairs reading and working on their tablets. The Starbucks café was full of java drinkers and bibliophiles. After we ordered our drinks, we perused the magazine stands nearby and loaded up on reading material. We chose everything from home décor to entertainment to architecture. Hark, our names were called and we picked up our drinks. I must admit to ordering a PSL, which seems early in the season but we were in the north and it was chilly up there! It really hit the spot, hot, spicy and delish! Hello fall! We meandered around the sections, and I found some nice books. As a B&N member, I received a 10% discount which was a nice perk. The card and gift selection was varied and we also stocked up on cards, tea, and a coffee mug. This was a perfectly pleasant experience and I'm just so glad that the printed page is still relevant in this digital world!! read more

Love going retro every once in a while! With the snow falling (pre-Thanksgiving!), the warm shop with the smell of Starbucks coffee and new books was very welcoming. Although everything is available online, it was really great to and there's nothing like being able to touch and feel and see before buying. I have been going to this place for years, never had a bad experience. The people are always willing to help, very kind, and passionate about what they do. They have a huge selection of books as well. Although books are somewhat expensive these days, it's worth it. The selection of Bellzi stuffed animals is amazing too. Something compels me to leave a review for this store today. Maybe it's the because I just spent an hour here on a holiday morning with my family, feeling nostalgic for a time in the early aughts when I was a teenager who practically lived in the local B&N. I could probably count all the times I've visited these stores over the last 20 years on my two hands, but now that I'm the parent of a young child, I appreciate it in a new way. We spent an hour in the store letting our toddler safely wander the aisles and came out with a stack of children's books, many of them on sale. Overall selections are modest but decent the store is smaller than typical, and I've never been in a B&N that didn't have a lackluster poetry section--but you'll find the recent big-publisher hits & classics here. Good magazine selection. I'll still peruse my local indie bookstore first, but B&N has its own special ambience that I appreciate. I'd much rather support them than Amazon anyway. I'd say get a premium membership if you anticipate spending $200+ on books, gifts, the cafe etc. in a year, and it includes fairly quick free shipping to your home for things not in the store. read more

Come here to buy your books and reading material the old fashioned way. You know before technology and all. This location is one of the very few Barnes and Nobles remaining that you can actually sit down and enjoy a good read with some coffee or beverage of your choice. I miss these so much. They are become less and less existent. Please be sure to visit and help save the Barnes bookstores. This is a nice Barnes and Noble, but I had to knock a star off because it simply doesn't compare to some of its competitors in state. We have young kids and love locations with a separated children's area that has some seating, sometimes a stage, and often a train table and possibly other toys to play with. This is a great incentive for me to choose a location over another. While they have a toy selection, other locations have greatly expanded their selections. And while they have a nice area for children's books, it isnt separated off and it doesn't have any play areas. Sure, it's a bookstore, not a library, BUT, I am able to peruse at my leisure when the kids are occupied, or I can read them a book I'm interested in while they play. Both these things increase the likelihood that I'll make a purchase. The Barnes and Noble cafe featuring Starbucks and Cheesecake Factory offers just as much as any other location, but they don't have any comfortable seating and the atmosphere isn't as nice. I prefer locations that have couches or armchairs with ample outlets. The ones with some gating or barrier separating from the bookstore also tend to create a cozy atmosphere. This location is nice and clean, and their book selection is fine, but because of the points made above, I think some other locations are better. read more

First, let me say I USED to love this Barnes & Noble. They had great displays of my favorite book genres, such as old-time vocabulary books & encyclopedias. Best, these displays were right up front & easy to find. But no sooner does one see these displays, and they're changed all around again! Each time I come in the store now, I have to hunt for what I want. The selection of books also seems to be getting smaller with each visit. I also enjoy their 'Last Chance' book cart, and even that is showing a dwindling selection. Lastly, I used to love to peruse my new book or magazine with a beverage or dessert. The lack of comfortable seating is a minus. But the worst was yet to come.....for when, on TWO separate visits, I found a long strand of hair in my desserts! I was so disgusted I decided to never buy them ever again. I wish B &N would work to make this store great again. read more

I bought a Kindle because the phone customer service is so bad. I still shop at this bn for various items though.... I went here recently to get some Starbucks coffee and a calendar. They had a good deal on the coffee for members... The service has been getting lousier, and I feel like I am bothering someone when I ask him/her a question. My member card will expire in September, and I won't be renewing. read more

Hung out here for a couple of hours yesterday during a snowstorm. Basically, that's the only use I have for this place -- getting a Starbucks coffee and taking advantage of the free WiFi. Based on where it was located, my hopes weren't too high for this store, but I was shocked to find it was perfectly clean inside and quiet. Oh, so wonderfully quiet! No nonsense chatter and droves of people in and out the doors. What a treat! The cafe area is nice and big and spread out so I don't feel like I'm sitting on top of my neighbor while I attempt o read a magazine. The staff here was incredibly friendly and helpful. However, at checkout I didn't appreciate having to decline three different times to sign up for the rewards program. I honestly don't see the point in paying $25 to save maybe that over an entire year in purchased books, presuming I never saved a penny by buying through Amazon. Even with shipping it's often significantly cheaper. (Thus, why the brick and mortar is disappearing.) Overall it's a wonderful hidden spot on Universal Drive in North Haven. A bookstore? Wow, how retro! In the age of the e-readers and online shopping, I'm shocked that they can even keep these places going! Still, I'm an old-fashion kind of gal, from time to time I relish bending the spine back on a brand new book and taking a whiff of that "new book" smell. Nothing better. It's obvious that they go to great lengths to make this a "hang out" spot. I guess they figure you'll come in, have an overpriced Starbucks coffee, and buy a book or planner or whatever. Unfortunately, the prices are not competitive and the book selection is sparse. Usually I'll go in to peruse a book I'm interested in; if I decide I like it enough to buy, I head off to find it online for cheaper. Sad, but true. So, although I enjoy the geeky thrill of being in a room full of shiny new books and the convenience of examining books before I buy them (I can even do this online now too), I'm not willing to pay the inflated prices. read more

This Barnes and Noble is going downhill, in the Borders direction. Everything was organized enough, but the store was almost empty. The cafe section was full enough, but it was obvious that displays were missing due to the awkwardly large open spaces near the door. I saw maybe 2 employees while I was there, maybe 3. The service was eh. I'd rather support a local bookstore closer to me or go on Amazon. read more

I enjoy reading and I like to own the books I value. I'm a teacher, writer, and marketing/client service representative, so it's not a surprise how much I value books of interest. I can find whatever I want, and if not, have it ordered. I love the books about angels, and the magazines about Hawaii and Italy for example. This store is clean, well organized, excellent staff with being cordial, timely, efficient, and helpful. There's a coffee shop/bakery to hang out at. read more

This is a solid B&N location. Are there nicer, newer B&N stores? Sure. But trekking down to Boston Post Rd in Milford or trying to find parking downtown completely defeats the purpose of spending a few relaxing hours perusing the shelves of a bookstore. I love it here because it's quiet and it's not flooded with teenagers that just got kicked out of the mall in the plaza over. It's conveniently located, I've never had any issues with organization or inventory, and the staff has always been helpful and friendly. It's a great, quiet place to grab a cup of coffee and find some new reads. I have a Kindle as well as an iPad, but I far prefer reading a real book so I'm glad that B&N has managed to hold their own thus far. Sure, on occasion I can save a few bucks by ordering online, but I enjoy the bookstore experience much more. Star for location, star for ample parking, star for great staff, star for Starbucks. I worked at a Barnes and Noble (at a different store) for 3 years and shopped there for 10 years before that and this store falls far below the standards I think of when I think of Barnes and Noble. Even with all the changes going on in the company, this store's employees clearly just don't give a damn and were the most unfriendly people I've met since I moved here 3.5 weeks ago. THE WORST. I went in store to buy a book that they had on bn.com for $18. I was charged $26 and when I contacted Barnes and noble customer support they said they don't price match off THEIR OWN WEBSITE. There is a reason I have Amazon Prime and this just under scores it. I'm a sucker for B&N and this one has been here a long time, over the years they added a little coffee cart and that turned into a full blown starbucks counter that took over the front corner of the store, but still they have a great magazine selection and keep the books organized - the aisles seem a little narrow and cramped, but its all good - more books to look at. parking here gets crowded - even though the lot is pretty big. i think a lot of people go here before/after the movies next door. a lot of businesses in this slightly out-of-the-way strip mall seem to be closing, not sure if that's a bad sign. read more

Not sure what Kristen S.'s problem is (see above review) but I've been going to this Barnes and Noble for many many years, and the store is cozy and organized, the people are pleasant (employees, I will not vouch for fellow shoppers), the coffee is good. I've even worked seasonally for B&N, and will thus confirm that, yes, the employees are very nice people who care a lot about what they do. I'm amazed at all those rather negative reviews. I love this store. Going into a bookstore and browsing around is a completely different experience from going on line. The selection seems good to me - you can hardly expect any store to carry every book out there. The location is pretty far (12 miles) from where we live, but to us it's a great outing. I personally don't care about the coffee angle - it's all the books that matter. But it's great if it brings in more customers. read more
