I used to be a huge lover of books... but Barnes and Noble prices have never been my friend. I haven't been in one of their stores in ages. But we were over the avenue, birthday shopping at World Market, with a friend and he wanted to check out the new releases, so we went inside. And WOW I LOVE the updated look! It looks cleaner, less cluttered. The whole store seems more spacious, and I didn't have to look out for other shoppers in aisles that I wanted to peruse - I'm hyper aware of the space I take up in my wheelchair. I love that the floor plan inspires customers to wander and explore. I found something delightful around every corner. I couldn't afford anything, so I left empty-handed, but I don't regret going inside. It's beautiful and well-lit. read more

In addition to local bookstores, Barnes&Noble will always have my heart! I love this location. Such a huge variety of books! I love to read romance, mysteries and thrillers, and the selection is always in abundance. I found a new romance series to get into and I'm loving the book so far. I took some time to sit in one of the comfy chairs and started the book before deciding to buy it. The cashier was super nice and made for a seamless transaction. read more

I'd like to say at the outset that is a very biased review (aren't they all, though?). I worked at a Barnes & Noble in Dallas in high school, another in White Plains NY in college, and have shopped at Barnes & Noble stores my whole life. Anyone who knows me knows that I love reading, books, bookstores, and buying books (more than I could ever really read). And I do love supporting our local, independent bookstores, too. I shop at them, and I order from them. While you can (and should) order books from independent bookstores (there are so many great ones in Baltimore), they tend to range in size from small to tiny (down to almost closet-sized). That means that browsing at an independent bookstore just isn't the same experience as browsing at a Barnes & Noble. I visited this location a few weeks ago when I was looking for a book to give as a gift, and it made me so nostalgic. You can browse for hours, you can sit, you can grab a coffee. It's just such a special place in my heart. And this location is just how I remembered them in our pre-Amazon killed the bookstore industry days. They've upgrade their look since the days I worked there (2005-2008), and the store is bright and modern and open. I just couldn't believe how big it was, how many books it had, and I wished I had time to really browse. I'll definitely be back for another nostalgic book buying experience soon. read more

One of my favorite stores. I miss all the bookstores we had in the 80's but thankfully this store will do. Conveniently located at The Avenue. A huge store with endless amounts of books and a section for records and games. There's a nice cafe off to the side serving Starbucks. A great place to sit and read a book while enjoying a cup of coffee. The prices for the books are very reasonable and the place is nicely organized. A great place to go and unwind. read more

Nope nope and nope. Worst customer service I've ever experienced in a bookstore. Out of popular novels. Staff has zero sense of urgency. Gave the Cafe a try and again poor slow service. About 10 minute wait on a peppermint mocha. Would love to support a book store instead of buying online but probably would have better choices and service there. read more

Came in to look for books for my god-son. I wanted some books that he can identify with himself. I didn't know what to look for but wanted easy reads that his parents could read to him. I did find some but they were too political for my taste. I did seek help since I could not find any books for boys. But with the guide of help and a quick search on Google, I was able to find several books. read more

I went to Banes and Nobels today and the new design is awful they remodeled the whole thing into a maze it's hard to find you way around they changed the location to the bathrooms also it seems like they just trying to compete with the Starbucks with looks the whole place just sucks then it would be noisy because they are adding a diner next door furthermore they changed the area to there bakery/snack section sometimes you can't find a worker just wouldn't recommend these new modernize locations. read more

The Good: This place has a gargantuan selection of books. It has nearly every gene you could think of from history and fantasy to psychology and theology. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing with café where there are plenty of people drinking while either reading or typing away at their laptops. I am half tempted to come down here with my WIP. Every time I frequent here, it is always clean and orderly The staff is always pleasant in my experience. The Bad: Nothing comes to mind. Judgment: Flawless. read more

I love to come here! They have a huge selection of books and even magazines. There aren't many books here that I'm interested, but you can have books ordered for you in store instead of having to do it online. You can also order movies and CDs, but I'm not sure if the same goes for magazines, collectibles, and audiobooks. What makes me upset however is that they're starting to cut back on movies. There was a completely empty aisle in the movies section behind where the $5 movies are. It's very disappointing to people like me who loves to look at all of their movies. read more

This review is for the café, which has overpriced food and seems to be understaffed with barely courteous employees. The food is all right, but not much quicker than sitting down at one the area restaurants. I don't know about the rest of the store except what I have read in the newspapers--and heard from employees in other stores. Barnes and Noble is a bad place to work if you want any kind of job security. Earlier this year, with next to no warning, the company fired a substantial number of employees to cut costs. That kind of action obviously hurts employee morale. And poor morale negatively influences the customer's experience. read more

I just love the Barnes & Nobles on the Avenue at White Marsh. My kids can run amuck shopping and I can kick back and sip a Star Bucks coffee and either read a book for free or do my homework. Thank you Panera, because you offer free Internet to your customers, Barnes & Nobles and other places have stopped charging for Internet service and started to offer it for free too. I bet they sell more coffee and snacks now!!! It is well worth the money to purchase a membership for their everyday 10% discount. But to top this off, B&N is constantly emailing me with coupons for additional percentages off. A hint to all you students who buy your books from your school's online bookstore, which is probably a B&N, write down your ISBN numbers and log out of the school storefront, and log into the regular B&N site, the books are cheaper. Last semester I saved $300 on medical/nursing texts for my practitioner's program doing this. read more

Just visited this store 30 mins ago. I picked out a holiday gift that I needed to get and ready to checkout and go home. I waited in the line. There are 5 people up at the checkout. One of them is assisting a customer. There are 4? 4 grandmother aged associates talking to each other, trying to figure out a price of an item. Really? Takes 4 people to figure out a price of 1 item? I stood there for 2 mins at the line, they totally ignored me. I figure I'll just walk up to them and get their attention. Well, they pretended like I didn't even existed. I stood there for about another 3 mins, them more customers started to lined up behind me at their counter. They still ignored me, and started their personal conversations. I started to stare at them, to make them feel uncomfortable. Well, that worked. The older lady started to lecture me about I needed to wait at their designated line, until they call on me. How nice of her condescending voice tone. She made me return back to the waiting line. This is the best customer service barnes and nobles can muster? Sad. No wonder why I haven't been to this store in years, now it's all coming back to me. Of course, I will not return to this store or any barnes and nobles. No wonder amazon is kicking your backside on book sales. Farewell. read more

I'm crushed. I'm disappointed. I'm mad! Its sad what has happened to what used to be one of my favorite places to go and get lost in for hours. Unfortunately I can understand how and why I experienced the following .. - Where the hell are the big cush chairs I used to fall asleep in??? - The store is HOT. Sweat was rolling off me. - Two cashiers on a Saturday at 6pm. REALLY? WHY DID I EXPERIENCE THIS YOU ASK? - Had to take them out and reallocate the sales floor to accommodate the 27 different NOOK models that occupy 12 tables across the front of the store. - Cutting Costs - And Cutting Costs The internet is chipping away at another retailer. I found this spot on a whim after I attended a church service in the area. I absolutely adore this place; it's my little hideaway spot to get away from the day to day cares of life. This location is great for relaxing outside with a nice cup of tea a book and an open mind. I can tell however that we are slowing seeing the diminishing of bookstores due to the amount of books that they have in house as opposed to online. There's been a few times when I visited this location where the book that I've looked for was only available online. Unfortunately, I am somewhat of an impulse shopper and can be very Impatient in waiting for something to be delivered and prefer to have whatever product in my hand when I purchase it. read more

Yay! This is a really nice B&N. In the summer, while walking around The Avenue (exercise + window shopping) I'd pop in here to get some Starbucks, enjoy the air conditioning, and peruse books and magazines. Everything is well organized and the staff are really happy and helpful. And I like how there's tons of seating scattered throughout the store. The B&N near my house is always full of people sitting on the floor because there aren't enough couches and chairs. There's free wifi, which is great, but is kind of a requirement; I mean, how grumpy would people be if you had to pay for wifi?? read more

I am a Barnes and Noble member and came in to get some children's books during the day when the store was not busy. I go to the counter and stand behind the only person checking out with the manager also training the sales clerk. After about 5 minutes three other customers go to the opposite end of the counter. The person finishes check out and then the manager tells me, "the end of the line is over there", pointing to the opposite end (no signs on the end nearest the door). (Oct. 12) I complain about being sent to the end of the line after waiting alone for 5 minutes while there were no signs at the end closest to the front door. The manager shrugs his shoulders and says, "well, its just one of those things". This while he is training his new employee? I responded, "so this is how you treat your members?" This is the kind of treatment that is so disrespectful and insulting. It makes you want to hate a business. Fortunately, this is not my main store, so I won't write off the chain. But this particular store seems to have a lousy corporate climate and treats its own customers poorly. read more

I love this Barnes & Noble! It's always stocked, orderly, and clean whenever I pop-in. Friendly staff as well, that aren't pushy, yet carry a welcoming positive attitude. I was just recently there and was looking for a specific book, the employee working (older gentleman) was more than happy to help me and directed me right to where I needed to be. It's always a pleasant experience. Starbucks inside this store though...that staff is total opposite from the other side. Attitudes like idk what...the register girl charged me $1.50 for water. I was slightly caught off guard, yet was thirsty so went to my car to grab my wallet. Came back and it was a guy this time who looked at the previous cashier like she was out of her mind for attempting to charge me at all for a STYROFOAM cup of water (sink water). He gave me a fresh large water and apologized, but that one employee should rethink her job. read more

For those of us who still read (it's a lost art), this is a nice clean B&N just like most others. This one gets an extra star because of free parking. I feel that the White Marsh B&N is a bit smaller than the other B&N's I'm used to, and their computer technical selection is very small (I guess they don't sell here). I hope society keeps them in business. read more

While we love the B&N at Towson and Reisterstown, this place is pretty consistently unpleasant. Obviously that bespeaks a management issue. I needed help and went to the desk while the employee was on the phone-no problem-I expect to wait for such things. The conversation was rather lengthy and when at last it was finished, I started to ask my question. The employee stopped me mid sentence and told me he'd help me in a minute and proceeded to do some paperwork while I continued to wait. As annoying as that was, it was minor compared to the hideous and LOUD music. I complained to the manager and he just gave me a strange smile and said "really???you don't like it???" well, yes, that is right, not only do I not like it but my both my husband and myself couldn't wait to get out of there. It seems to me that if I wanted my business to thrive I would find a soft background music that would set the mood for people to want to stay. So, anyway, even though this place is much closer to our home, we will just bite the bullet and go over to Pikesville when we want to get some books. Customer Service at the White Marsh location is terrible. Not only will they not help you, they will speak to you as if you are a 2 year old. After our purchase, the cashier snapped at my husband and myself. We immediately returned our purchase and will never shop at this location again. Save yourself the headache and buy at Amazon.com. Stopped by Old Navy the other day and remembered that I needed some books for my niece. The children's section is decent. However, I was disappointed in the selection of books for children of color. I was able to find 3 out of the thousands, that were age appropriate. Got up to the registers and noticed that only one register was open. Really? On a Saturday afternoon? Sigh. They eventually opened another register after waiting for 10 minutes. After all that, I was irritated. I needed an adult beverage. But decided to walk over to the adjacent Starbucks instead. Caramel Apple Spice would suffice...I guess. You see what I did there? Hehe. read more
