Stopped in here one evening to get a "hard book" to read to put me to sleep during a week long business trip to Longmont, CO. I found something light - a collection of "FoxTrot" cartoons by Bill Amend. This location was well lit, well stocked and organized. I asked for help at the Information Desk - and the young lady went well beyond the scope of help! #BarnesandNoble

I'm in It for the Movies I still enjoy buying DVDs and Blu-ray Discs, but the brick and mortar stores are not what they once were. You can often find current films and TV series, but not so much on the random, older stuff. Barnes & Noble stores have a much stronger selection when it comes to movies. The organization and cleanliness of each store is superb. The prices are overinflated, but the discounts bring them back to reality.

Unfortunately they were out of chips and this was their best banana :(

Book store itself was beautiful and the staff were present. My colleagues and I decided to eat in the cafe for lunch. I was interested in the half sandwich and soup, however they were out of soup. I then chose the next best thing.... a sandwich (which comes with either chips or a banana). I chose the banana and was very displeased when I received it as it was nearly half black (I uploaded a pic yesterday to Yelp). I requested another banana and I was told that was all they had. I then asked if it might be possible for me to have the chips instead of the banana. I was told they didn't have any of the small bags of chips (that they give out with the sandwiches) but I was welcome to purchase the chips they had for sale. I was very displeased. My boss who also purchased a sandwich wasn't informed at the register that her sandwich came with a side. Unfortunately she was not interested in the over ripe bananas, or purchasing chips when they were to come free with the meal. I found the experience in the store pleasant, but the cafe was dreadful and will not eat at the cafe again.

The History they teach us in school is not the truth and neither is this book, but it shows you where all these ideas come from

But I know a few who do and wanted to check out this collection. I was created immediately by staff and we had a short and funny chat as like me, about 30 years ago, at the advent of the CD, we bought the new equipment and let go of most of our. Collections of records . In retrospect maybe premature as they are back. But I'm satisfied with what I have now but value the choices of others with room and time for both. If you are looking for something specific they likely have it here unless extremely obscure. The selection was huge and better organized than many similar retro music stores that I have seen in other cities. These seemed in very good condition though they have random bins of more worn items in the bargain bins on the sidewalk. Go take a look if you have equipment and if not, they may have what you need here too. The staff person told me so but I did not have time to look.

We found our way to Pearl Street mall and asked some shoppers where we could find a dessert place. Apparently Boulder people only eat salads so we were on our own. We walked a few blocks deep into the mall and didn't find anything so we headed back to the car. On a whim we walked past our car to the next intersection to see if there was some dessert place there. The only sweet place we came across was Paradise Found Records. I collect old vinyl and I'll usually stop into a record store to see if they have anything from my wish list. Sean, a bearded, long-haired music aficionado asked if he could help me find anything. I opened up the list on my phone and read off the first one. He went straight to the album and proudly showed it to me. I was shocked. These albums are still on my wish list because they are impossible to find. I named the next one. He walked like a man on a mission and quickly found that one also! He knew exactly where these antique titles were as if he was digging through his own record collection! I was elated, but a little suspicious. Do they have these albums because they're so expensive no one is buying them? I flipped the album over to see the price. SIX DOLLARS! That is unheard of! Years ago used vinyl albums in decent condition were going for $12 and the prices have just gone up from there. Recently I bought a used album for $18. I listened to all the albums as soon as we got home and they sounded great. Oh, why don't we live in Boulder?!

You can find it at businesses that carry other newspaper magazines that are free, like the Westword. The magazine is released monthly. The newspaper is based out of Boulder with a primary focus on the music scene of Northern Colorado... or perhaps the Front Range might be more accurate to say. They cover upcoming show information at certain venues all the way from Fort Collins to Denver. They have great write ups on bands and musicians that will be coming to the area and talk about a new album they are probably supporting since they are out on tour. The last one I read was about the band Ween as well as some other articles on local bands and what they were doing to help people who lost their homes to the devastating Fourmile Canyon Fire which happened this late summer. When I feel like I am not in the know with music I am always happy to get a hold of The Marquee... The Westword is also helpful too but I know I am good shape with this particular magazine. They have great coverage for when nationally known bands are coming to town and local bands. I really like that mix because it seems like other free music magazines are either too local in their concert listings or just cover the bigger acts to coming to town so I must praise them for having a fine mix of listings for both.
