Eugene's biggest book store is most excellent. Small local family bookstores are great but Barnes and Noble is filled with much more than books. Yes the shelves are overflowing with the latest and hard to find titles but along with a terrific coffee shop, a wide selection of creative games, gifts, cards and toys you will be greeted and served by the most knowledgeable, customer oriented and efficient staff in any Oregon retail establishment. I've started coming in here more often since I refuse to patronize Smith Family Books, and have spent quite a bit of time in the last couple of years. I came in with my husband yesterday, as I needed to return a book I bought at Christmas, because it was a duplicate. One of the things I've noticed is their customer service. I rarely need help and much prefer to wander on my own. But when I do need help, their employees are always helpful. Sometimes even just a quick chat about a book or a recommendation. The store is always clean and well organized. It's pretty easy to find what I'm looking for. I love wandering around in here, looking at books, and it is a relaxing place to spend some time. I do wish they had more chairs to sit and check out books, but that's literally the only complaint I have. Would I return? Absolutely! I've become a regular face in the store, and I love it. Easy to find and the store is quite large. They've got basically anything you like to read and the prices are very reasonable. They've customer service is stellar. As soon as we walk in we a greeted by someone behind the registers or the staff out on the floor. The staff out on the floor are very knowledgeable about the books you're looking for. You could not remember the name of the book and if you describe it, they'll steer you in the right direction. With easy access to handicapped parking and wheelchair ramps it's very accessible for everyone. I could keep going on and on about the business, but if you're looking for kids, teens or adults, I'm sure they've got something for everyone. read more

Short: Standard Barnes and Noble. Customer service is hit or miss. Decent selection but changes organization styles throughout the genres. Pricey. Visited week of Sept. 9th 2022. I arrived with a friend and we ended up spending a few hours browsing around. We weren't greeted and we weren't asked if we needed any help. Despite walking around for at least 2 hours. [Lol!] I do not mind this, since I understand the book store atmosphere and I usually do not want to be approached in such a setting. However, this time, I am sure, I did look lost. I had an issue with the section called "Classics". There were Classics scattered everywhere around the sale section and throughout the fiction shelves. I also found it peculiar that they did not have in stock famous authors' most famous books or 2nd top selling/awarded book. Such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, they literally only had "The Great Gatsby". Not "This Side of Paradise", his debut hit novel. Just an example amongst others. Again, decently stocked, and the sale selection was pretty diverse. Such as self help, journaling, picture books,coloring books, coffee table books, cooking recipe books, puzzle books, classics, maps, you name it! I was pleased to see that, and it was really tempting. From my browsing, it started around $8 through about $30 [in the sales section]. They do have a large manga collection that is well stocked. Barnes and Nobles, to my surprise, has in stock a handful of non-book things. Such as K-pop merchandise, DVDs/Blu-Rays, Vinyls, Music CDs, Funko Pops, LEGOs,Puzzles, journaling supplies, and amongst other things that were really geared towards children, such as crafts kits. There is a starbucks inside the cafe, which I believe used to be just the Barnes and Noble Cafe. I ended up purchasing a k-pop album [$32, but a B&N exclusive] and 2001: A Space Odyssey [paperback;$17!!]. Overall, it was a standard Barnes and Noble store, however I did have a few pleasant surprises and disappointments. I am grateful it is in the area, and would like to visit again soon! read more

Finally got to order and then waited, waited, waited... The staff seemed extremely slow and disorganized. They finally told me they were out of decaf espresso beans so couldn't make an Americano. Instead, they were making me a pour-over decaf (but had started without asking me). It sat there and sat there. They finally finished it, they stated it was probably too strong. Yes, it was and worst of all, it was barely lukewarm. Never again. read more

This store has to have the friendliest staff working here. We visited with our grandkids and the lady working in the kids area was extremely helpful in guiding the kids in their selections. She also introduced them to their summer reading program, which is fantastic. The shelves are neat and orderly, the displays eye catching. There's also a coffee bar to purchase coffee and treats. Barnes and Noble...not just for books. We love Barnes and Nobles, the books, the games the toys and especially for Japanese toys, games, papeecraft and puzzles. We came during COVID-19 and it was CLEAN! All staff properly wearing a mask, cashier's wearing gloves and wiping down everything. I would definitely shop here again. Today we weren't looking for books. We came for a toy. An Alpacasso from Japan as a get well present for a sick pup. Pup had been wanting this toy badly for quite a few years so it made the perfect gift. If you are in Eugene and looking for Japanese toys at a reasonable price and don't want to try your lick winning them at Round 1 come to Barnes and Nobles. read more

I bought an iced tea with sugar and asked that it be brought to my table. An employee brought the iced tea with no sugar packets and no receipt. I requested some sugar for my iced tea whereupon the employee brought some some Splenda packets. I simply remarked that Splenda is not sugar and repeated my request for sugar packets Another employee then brought a clearly excessive number of sugar packets, laid them on the table, then loudly rebuked me in front of my guest and other customers at nearby tables that I had been rude to the employee who did not know that Splenda is not sugar. I objected to her decision to rebuke me publicly whereupon she doubled down and again rebuked me for being rude. I had great difficulty getting a refund because I was not given a receipt. I do not recall ever having been so unjustly humiliated publicly in my 74 years. read more

Bookstores - like the environment - will be something we miss when they're gone, but are too inconvenienced to actually save. Most of us are on a budget and busy, and Amazon makes it possible to save money, get what we want, and never have to get dressed. I include myself in that. That being said, few actions are as cathartic as browsing aisles of books and smelling the crispness of unopened pages. (Indulge me, I romanticize so little else.) If we buy our bestsellers online, the very least we could do is shop here for bargains - of which there are more than one might think. Books priced from $6 to $10 are quite abundant. You'll find them on tables throughout the store. And for that bookish friend or intense artist (or the hipster friend who is neither), the journals and art supplies make wonderful gifts. Specific to this store, the selection is adequate, the shelves orderly, and the staff appropriately quiet. read more

I checked their hours online and then called to confirm the hours. Their message said: "Our hours on Wednesday, December 14th are 9am until 10pm." I drove across town to pick up two books for my kids' school's holiday gift drive because families pick up their gift boxes tomorrow and got there at 9:30pm. The doors were locked. I called the manager John and he said they close at 9 and there's nothing they can do. I'll stick to Amazon next time. read more

It's a book store with a coffe counter. Not a bad place except the wifi can be torturously slow. Couple that with the elevator music and the overpriced books.... So why do I come here? Came here for Harry Potter Yule Ball tonight. It was slightly disappointing. They should have disclosed it was for the younger crowd. Lots of kids. It wasn't really a "ball", but a dance recital for the youngins. It seemed like a great time for the children though, which is great. I'm happy to see the Harry Potter world continues through generations. read more

Went here while we were in town for the Eugene Marathon. Found the (brand) new Guy Gavriel Kay book and was very pleased they had a copy. They have the full on B&N Cafe, which is pretty decent. I got a coffee cake and a (Cheesecake Factory) slice of cheesecake. The staff was helpful and friendly when I couldn't find the book I was looking for. Plus, I got 5% off because my brother (who was with me) is a B&N club member. Sweet! read more

Yes! My favorite store EVER! I've taken notice to people giving it low ratings simply due to "bad WiFi" or "not-so-great food". Well, first of all.. did you come here to get on your phone or laptop? It's a book store! You're here to read -- no need for internet. It's just a genuinely very nice Barnes n Noble, and I've been to BN's ALL over the country. This one here in Eugene is absolutely great! It's large, has a huge book selection and the employees are INCREDIBLY nice! Easily 5 stars, more stars if I could! read more

Some of the employees here are not honorable. I'm here writing this review, and if there is a percentage off sticker on a book that is in the "bargain" section, these employees will not honor a mistake price sticker that they put on the book. The example that happened was there was a 40% off sticker on a book in the bargain section, and when asked how much the book was, the employees will rip off the bargain price and not honor a mis-priced product in their store (mis-prices because they hadn't done their job properly). If you can help it, don't shop at this location. Shop on Amazon or on their website. Until demonstrated otherwise, some of these employees are not honorable. read more

I come here regularly! We used to go to Borders for our books, but then they went out of buisness. At the time when Borders was around I NEVER came here, but as they were going out of buisness I realized I was going to start shopping here! This is the only Barnes and Noble in town so I thought I would come here and check it out and see if I could find any good books. This place is large with a Starbucks inside and even a section of vinyl and DVDS. Of course you can get books cheaper on Amazon or thrift stores but sometimes you just want a certain book or need to look through it in order to decide. The reason I gave it three stars was because the energy inside the store was pretty depressing. The employees don't seem happy and when I asked where the restroom was (it's all the way in the back corner without any apparent signs and book cases blocking it) I heard the employee I asked say to another customer, "I'm tired of telling people where the bathroom is a hundred times a day". That to me was really rude and first of all part of your job and second of all maybe you should have a better sign in such a giant store so people don't have to ask "a hundred times a day". Besides that, it's your standard Barnes and Noble. They have a huge parking lot and it's easy to find right across from the Valley View Mall. read more

If you're looking for a popular, mainstream author (Grisham, Picoult, etc.) you're in luck as that seems to be the mainstay of their over-priced inventory. Used their very poor website to find a title, went to this store only to find that it was double the price! Staff member explained that to pay for the "brick & mortar" stores they had to charge these inflated prices! ...and one wonders why Amazon is so successful. This place is a joke! read more

I had no idea what the Q was, so I asked if I could just use my phone #. In a superior tone, she told me that was what the Q was. Yep, I'm an idiot, because I don't know their jargon.
