This is one of my favorite Barnes & Noble in the area. Also, I'm especially partial to B&N with a cafe so I can browse my selections with something from the Starbucks cafe inside. The kids section is plentiful and I just generally like the layout of the store as this is one of the spacious Barnes & Noble. I am member so I enjoy the additional perks and savings. There is also lots of little nooks and crannies to find a seat throughout the store as you thumb through some of your literary picks. This is a really nice Barnes & Noble. I like the location - near to other shopping, and not very far at all from the brand new Federal Way light rail station. Nice big parking lot. For some reason, something to do with the layout, I think, this B&N is very entertaining and diverting. You can spend a long time browsing all their different categories, from books to gifts. And of course there is a cafe included with ample seating that you can also use to sit and read or what-have-you. Our only disappointment was that the holiday items (of holidays that are over) were not marked down further - none were priced low enough to tempt us. Staff was friendly. We get into store an hour n change before closing. We love coming here. But after today hell no. I went straight to the bathroom it was closed for clean. I stand there waiting . Lady comes out said be 30 mins I go look books etc come back 40 mins later. She walk out. Ooo the floor wet I can't let anyone back there. By that time it's deal breaker I need to tinkle bad bad. I'm an older lady people. I go up pay for my book tell the young lady at register she acts like she don't give a crap nor does the young guy let down from her. I had to have my husband drive me to petco . They were so sweet n let me go in thee to change my pants. Cause unfortunately as soon as I walk out the door of this store I lost my bladder . You know how embarrassing that is. I pee all over my self n the sidewalk. I will never ever come this store again, that ridiculous. My boyfriend and I came here on Friday evening for a date to check out some books, enjoy a drink and hang out with our fur babies in one convenient place. As we entered inside, we were able to look for some books to purchase with our fur babies with no problem. The staff here were very accommodating and checked in on us to see if they could provide any help. Once we got some books, we walked over to the cafe and got a cold brew and passion tango iced tea lemonade which was made to perfection in a quick manner by the friendly barista. The prices for the drinks were same as getting them at another Starbucks. They also offer deals with a BOGO 50% cookies or if you buy a drink after buying a book that they are selling at the ordering counter then you would get a discount which I thought was neat. We sat down and read for a little bit and after about an hour so we were pleased with our selection and decided to head to check out. We found out they were running a sale for paperback books which was awesome as we had almost the right amount but they had books at the counter to select from that are top picks from Barnes and Noble. The prices for the books dropped and made the purchase even more cheaper than we had intended which was a nice surprise. Additionally, on your receipt they have a $1 off grande or larger size drinks for your next cafe visit! Today i just experienced the most disgusting thing i have ever seen at an establishment. I was about to ask for the bathroom code, when i see two workers talking to eachother and one of them is wearing no socks, taking her shoes off and scratching her toes on the carpet. When i asked for the bathroom code she looked like she had seen a ghost and she immediately put her shoes back on. Before I had seen her nametag and walkie talkie, i thought she might just be some homeless woman speaking to the other employee. Not only does she act disgusting, she looks disgusting. Me and my boyfriend who witnessed it informed the manager and he clearly did not care and just thought it was some prank. Hire better employees. read more

What's not to love about Barnes and Noble?! They have all the books! I really enjoy getting lost in a corner and taking my time with picking out a book or even deciding on a game. Usually there's a coffee option in the store as well. I like the option of a discounted section and the customer service is always up to standard! Poor and borderline rude service. I kindly inquired about the availability of East of Eden by Steinbeck and was only met with it "should be in fiction" when it clearly wasn't. (I already checked in classics and fiction). She didn't bother to check. I had to ask another kind employee, and he was competent enough to check in the system and told me the book was out of stock. However, when I asked the other employee to check in the system and he said it's likely out of stock, the initial/ unhelpful employee replied, "it's a surprise people even read anymore." Unsure if that was directed at me or at society, but it added to my unpleasant and unfriendly encounter with her. read more

Love this store. Love reading books and the touch and feel of a real book is comforting and familiar. My granddaughter loves to shop there with me. Her daddy has instilled his own love for reading. She just completed 3rd grade and will be spending more time in her books and off the internet. The team members are well informed and make themselves available for recommendations should you ask for some. A real brick and mortar store has become a unique treasure. I've been coming to this Barnes and noble since high school! Im talking 2005. It's been awhile! I've never had any issues here. I've always found what I was looking for and have never felt mistreated. I now bring my son here and we sit in the children's area finding and reading books. This is his favorite bookstore due to the children's area lol. They have GREAT deals in their clearance section and I love the arts and crafts objects they have as well. The only thing that I don't like much is that there isn't a large selection on African history, African American history, or historical African people. That is the 1 downside and why they received 4/5. Other than that. I totally recommend. read more

This Barnes & Noble is in the middle of a strip mall, right next to H Mart. There's a large kids section in the back, which is why we went. The only thing I'd say was a bit lacking is seating in the kids area. Similar to other Barnes & Noble's, there's a Winnie the Pooh stage, a Dr. Seuss area, and ample books for kids. Overall, a great place to take your kids to read and find books they like. There's also a Starbucks inside of this Barnes & Noble for the adults. read more

I came in w my daughter 15mins before closing and she was getting a book. But I just needed to use the restroom, I asked the lady with dark long wavy hair if I can get the code for the restroom and she says "oh it's closed " . It surprised me because I didn't know the restroom closes at all. So I told my daughter to grab her book and let's go. Since we still have a long drive ahead. I understand if I wasn't a buying customer then I get it. But the least they can do is let their buying customers use it. read more

Stopped today and gosh darn I love a nice big book store. Bathrooms were very clean and tidy. Service was good. They were moving stuff for Halloween and Christmas so they were busy and there was some stuff blocking some walkways but not a big deal. Great visit today and we'll be back! read more

Very lazy staff and incompetent to boot. Yesterday I saw that they had a particular item in stock in store for pickup so I called to confirm. I gave the name and item number to employee and waited on hold. Employee came back online phone to tell me that yes they had it but it was not on the shelf as they were doing a reset of that area ..and everything was boxed up in the back but they would be happy to call me in two days after the reset was done. I told them no thank you I would just look elsewhere. After I finished my other errands in the area I thought might as well pop in and see what they do have in the area of my interest.. and what do I find but a entire stack of said item. I took one to the counter to purchase and told the employee about how I had called and what I was told. His response was " I'm sorry but that's not my department " not even a 5 cent apology. I like that this Barnes & Noble is so close to H-mart! Whenever I'm buying groceries, or want to go for a random walk it's literally down the street. Very conveniently placed. I love the kid's center they have in the back, it's relatively easy to find books depending on your child's age. Another bonus: it's also pretty clean in there, even during the evenings. I love bookstores! It gives off a motivation to find the right book and start reading even if you don't like reading. This Barnes and Noble is like any other B&N. They're slowly closing more and more, so it's nice to still have one around. My favorite part about these bookstores is the little present and nit-nacks that are around. There is a perfect present for somebody in these stores. This place is also nice cause of the Starbucks cafe to work on any work. I have come here many times-- ALWAYS have had good if not great service and interactions- today was both great and horrible within 15 seconds of each other -- first I asked them if they could find a book I wasn't quite sure about-- she figured it out, don't carry it, and gave me a printout with numbers and options- GREAT!!'-- then it seems I had the audacity to ask why they didn't carry any Christian based calendars but clearly stalked ones with "witches", "satanic symbols", and "astrological" content-- she then said something to the fact of- we carry feel good calendars- I explained feel good is not a Christian calendar and she said but they also have feel good with positive quotes-- WHAAAAT??? A Barnes & Noble store that is still open? Say it ain't so! So pleased when I was in Federal Way today and went to this shopping center and there was a actual book store there! This B&N is very well stocked, and pretty much has everything you might think of for a book store, the prices are fairly good, they have a awesome selection of magazines- the calendar selection at this point of time- not so great. But generally dont go here for those anyway. I love how casual this place is, and that they have plenty of spaces you can grab a book and sit down and do some reading, and they dont seem to mind that! It's a Barnes & Noble and it is everything you'd expect from a big chain bookstore. I was able to find the book sections just fine. The store was clean and tidy. When I had trouble finding a particular book, a staff member was friendly and lent a hand. Unfortunately, they didn't carry the physical book and she basically recommended the big A to buy it online. Haven't been here in years..............but now that Borders is gone, when the need arises to go to a bookstore this is the largest bookstore in my neighborhood. I tend to buy all my books,etc at Costco, Scholastic Warehouse (in Auburn) or online at half.com. Found a calendar for my desk and for my mom - both at 50% off. Not perfect, but will do the job. This B&N is a small store with a cafe and is located in the Pavilion Centre next to H Mart. The large magazine selection is a big bonus for me. I am an artist, and there are magazines available here that are hard to find. It's cool that they have some seating areas to read. I didn't see any movies or CD'S for sale here like at other locations. They either don't sell them or were out of sight. The signage in this place needs improvement. It was hard to find the genres I was looking for, and I had to ask where the restrooms were since I couldn't see a sign. The restroom was in really bad shape. I asked for a manager so she could get it taken care of right away. It smelled horrible, with water and wet toilet paper on the floor in the stall I used. I saw it was like that in the one next to me too, and the paper towels were multiplying in the trash cans onto the floor. There's plenty of free parking available. I would like this box chain more if they didn't charge for their membership card. Amazon charges $99 a year for Prime but you get thousands of free ebooks, movies and 2 day shipping plus 1 day shipping on some things now. B&N is charging for a membership to get a discount off some books, that's it. read more

I am autistic, I suffer from PTSD and childhood trauma. I mention this because I often doubt my social awareness and have panic attacks when confronted or abused. Recently I have been victimized by staff and management and they have made it increasingly difficult to consider myself "safe" there. First, the issues they are working to resolve: there is a lot of homeless people making this their squatting place. This is not usually an issue unless you have to deal with blood and needles in the bathroom, the single toilet stall being "occupied" for hours, the shoplifting, or violence from one of the more mentally unstable individuals. The issues they have failed to resolve in an appropriate manner: There was a customer who I, on multiple occasions, had to report to staff for watching child-pornography on his tablet in full view of other customers (at one point a group of pre-teens who had clearly seen what he was watching and had no idea what to do with what they had been exposed to. This can cause trauma and illegal porn addictions in children). Staff (Bryce) would ask him to leave but never involved the police. At one point I saw him in the children's section surrounded by unattended kindergarteners who were playing while he read a children's book... I would not feel safe leaving my child alone under these circumstances nor do I believe that this was handled in the best interest and safety of the customers. The second issue and the one that is destroying my loyalty to this company is that there was a new employee Alaina D. (Dahl?) whose face lit up with a brilliant smile every time I looked at her or waved. She clearly enjoyed my attention but didn't make getting to know me a priority. Remember I am autistic. I constantly spend time second guessing things. I stressed for a month while I tried to get a clear answer from her over if she was interested in me. The difficulty is that at one point in front of another staff member (Chris) I flat out asked Alaina if she was going to take advantage of her breaks to get to know me and suggested that she probably wouldn't. I was practically begging her for a "no, I'm not interested." So I could let the issue go. She responded with an "I might" not the "No" I was asking for. I was being led on. Two weeks later she had a manager (Christy) come and inform me that I was bothering her. I found out the next day from another manager (Carla) that Alaina claimed to have informed me of the fiancé she kept a secret from me and based on the initial look of hatred and then confusion on Carla's face Alaina made some horrible accusations about my behavior that didn't fit what the staff had witnessed over the last year. This explained why the barista James had lied to me about having to charge an extra flavor fee for every two pumps of syrup when I lamented to him about Alaina not making things clear which the café manager never held him accountable for. Alaina herself was supported for her behavior of lying and manipulating management into cleaning up the mess she created by being unfaithful to her fiancé. She was never held accountable either. Now with Covid19 running rampant the manager Christy is targeting me again by mentioning that she knows I wear gloves when I go outside but that I now have to wash my hands when I come back in. this makes no sense health-wise except to make things more difficult for me and to give them "validation" for getting rid of their victim. This rule is only for me (discrimination), the autistic guy who has already been victimized by staff and management multiple times. This is the behavior of an abuser trying I have contacted corporate twice, my first report was erased without resolution and at a time when management has nothing better to do than make phone calls the district manager chooses to ignore customer abuse. I have waited three weeks, so I am going public. read more

My daughter and I were at the Starbucks cafe on Sunday evening waiting for my husband to use the restroom. We usually get smoothies and coffee during previous visits, but we were all still full from dinner on this night. We were ask loudly by the female staff (barista) to leave because we didn't order something from the cafe immediately. I have been to Barnes & Nobles in Las Vegas and SoCal for years, and never been embarrassed like this before. Are people just more laid back in the Southwest? Make sure you order something from the menu they place on your table or you and your family will be publicly ask to leave the cafe immediately. If this is their policy, they should have a sign by the entrance letting customers know instead of embarrassing people. Go to the Tukwila B&N instead. At least that one provide chairs for customers even if your not allowed to bring magazines into the SB cafe. We recently moved to Washington and hoping it's not like this everywhere I like to shop. By that, I mean robot anal retentive employees. I def. miss Borders. They had better coupons, service and reasonably priced items. By the way Starbucks in B&N, the whole reason I went in there was to buy a bag of coffee when I was done looking at magazines. I was so pissed off, I forgot to do that. He didn't like my answer and kept asking questions about why I didn't want it. His last question was "How many books do you read in a year?" I didn't want to get into it with him so I quickly said "No thanks, none", hoping he'd leave me alone and just ring up my book...instead he replied "That's a shame" with disgust at the thought I didn't read. Hello. I love to read. You didn't get that I was being polite and didn't want your member plan. Total jerk. Didn't say anything to me the whole time after. This is a decent bookstore, overall, but I was horrified by the state of the bathroom and the smell. It honestly ruined the experience for me. Nice toy section for the kids, decent selection of books overall (though, for a Barnes and Noble, this one is on the small side), and good deals on clearance books. Nothing over the top looking for a certain book as a gift and some reference material have passed by here over the years but never had the chance to go inside. Well organized somewhat busy but staff seems to be on it. Still get looks by staff as if my safety work gear deters them to believe This individual can actually find reading materiel at my level. I have been here on a number of occasions and I have always loved book stores. I spent many hours of my teen years roaming through the old book stores in NYC (New York City) and still get nostalgic when I enter Barnes and Noble. Many times I get frustrated with the lack of help and limited selection of books - OK books I am looking for since they have thousands - but last night they had enough of a staff to help us and guide us in the right directions. They do need a buzzer on the information desk so you can get help. NOTE - We also enjoyed the Christmas music playing while we shopped - more stores need to add that. There are plenty of places to sit and brose through books and the place is open and aerie. Book stores are closing up all over the place so if you are a reader - please visit them and buy some books so our kids and grandkids will have a place to shop rather than on Amazon - which is very impersonal. read more
