Lady at the register, Sabrina, was an absolute space cadet today lol. She had a backup of a line all the way down the marked off area and took about 20 mins. She never called anyone for backup even, like first thing you should do when there's a bunch of people in line. Then she didn't enter my phone number right for the rewards, and said I didn't have one. I know I do lol, I get emails and am logged into it in the app. So she tried email but typed that incorrectly too. Nope, you don't have an acct sir. OK here let me as the customer get out my phone, open the app, find my rewards section, and pull up the literal barcode for her to scan. Oh gee you do have one! Wow! Then she put some of my products into the tiniest bag possible and said some of them didn't fit and just stacked them to the side. I went oh do you think you have a larger bag maybe. She said oh yes we do. Whattttt how slow are you today that the customer did all the work and had to literally suggest to you that more items means a bigger bag. I just laughed my way out and prob won't be back anytime soon if the customer service is that braindead... read more

Service is nice, someone asked if we needed anything and we were good. Selection is vast from all sorts of genres and Lego kits. Seriously it is hard to walk out of there without buying a book or toy. Value is spot on. Not the cheapest but not out of control like other retailers. I love looking at books and Lego and this place is the mecca for it. read more

The worst customer service ive ever received here! Let me start by saying that there was no greeting when comming into the store and when i was ready to pay the girl MANDY didnt even say hello or anything to me i had to walk up to her. She was just being lazy sitting down not even looking up. Then she just rung me up with my total and didnt ask me if i had a number for rewards with them. I had to tell her i had a number and knowing that i had $15 to apply to my purchase she still didnt ask me if i wanted to use it. I had to tell her i wanted to use it. She didnt even thank me for comming in or anything, she needs some training on what good customer service looks like, she's in the wrong business. Around 6 pm, there was a long line of people and 1 woman working the registers. There was another employee named Ally with glasses that was next to the registers fixing shelves and things- I approached her and asked if I could ask her a question- to see if she'd be able to show me a product behind the registers on the shelves to look through to buy (while I wait for the line to die down) She seemed really annoyed and said she would not stand with me while I went through them. Understandable, she was doing something and I didn't think it would be an issue because she would still be right there. but I get it, maybe she doesn't want to have to keep an eye on me while she's doing other things. I just told her I understand and if it would be better to just wait in line and ask the lady at the register and she scoffed at me and said "you can try" before rolling her eyes at me. Now I already had stuff to buy with me and waited in line, but she was still next to the line and I could see her look at me while I was waiting and still visibly annoyed by me which made me uncomfortable and I put my things back and just left. Ally, perhaps you're having a bad day, but maybe next time when someone comes up to ask you something, you can take a step back to put on a facade of friendliness at least. read more

I love every moment I come here. There is such a great selection of books and journals and lots of other fun trinkets. They have a great selection for Japanese characters like sanrio and gudetama and Pusheen. I like that they sell more than just books. It was an easy decision for me to become a member here. This location is robbed every weekend of every other weekend. My partner and I came to this location to find a book I have been wanting to read and when arrived, there were cop cars outside. As we make our way inside, I found my book and purchased up front. The cashier who helped us out told us somebody stole something and that it happens every weekend. Apparently management or the owners do not want to hire security which is wild to hear. So, be careful. I wouldn't recommend this particular location. read more

While living in Salinas, I made numerous trips to this town, and always found myself browsing the many shelves of numerous books. I stopped in at 10:30 AM on a Monday and every trashcan in this place was overflowing and the bathrooms were disgusting. It seems extremely strange to not clean the store and the restrooms before opening. I assume this is left over from the previous day since there was hardly anyone in the store when I was there. Cassandra and the ginger hair associate caused this negative review. What is the point of working a job you hate when you signed up for it. Attitude was off the roof over legos that my boyfriend wanted to check out. He felt very racially profiled. Doing way too much over $5 legos. Made him feel like he can't return to shop at this location since Cassandra and the ginger haired associate made him feel this way. Disappointing and very unnecessary to treat people this way. He's been a premium member for 2 years and this is the first time he's felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. Not racially profiling someone and doing the bare minimum and being kind to others can improve. read more

I usually don't leave reviews, but I had such a lovely experience! I grabbed a little brunch here at the cafe the other morning, and got the iced pumpkin chai latte. SOO GOOD. The barista Haley recommended it to me, and she is just such a sweetheart! I'll definitely be back again soon. read more

It's a BOOK store, guess what they sell.... BOOKS! is this thing on?!? No just me then? Okay, what do you go to a book store for?!? BOOKS! What do you want it to do, it's a book store!?!? I get in, occassionally I will sit on one of their comfortable couches and read a book, then get what I need and get out. In my opinion; I like to read, so it's a good match. Barnes and noble is always clean and the service has always been good. If they don't have your book then you can order it, but you probably shouldn't. I will personally buy books here over amazon to make sure this place is still here tomorrow. The people working here are always super friendly and are easy to find for help. What a neat surprise to find a Barnes and Noble in Gilroy! Book snobs that we are, we had to pay a visit and I had to get my coffee fix. Sadly, B&N only plays host to Starbucks so I got a very milky chai latte but hey, I got 10% off my order for being a member. Today, we were merely browsers and didn't end up buying anything. We scoffed at an author that we think has become the Thomas Kinkade of books because we saw his books all over the store. We checked out the usual relationship books because we like to laugh at the advice that they give to clueless couples unlike ourselves and we also found a great spell to ward off hurricanes in the New Age section apparently you should point a knife in the air, mumble a chant, and then thrust the knife into the ground. I would be tempted to try it but I'm afraid my neighbors might call the cops on me and I'd end up in some insane asylum. And all throughout our adventure, the speakers overhead played some pretty bad versions of old classic songs that sounded like something you'd hear in in a karaoke bar by a drunk singer. Oh wow, it was quite the experience but it was the same old B&N with its ample selection of books and clearance racks and all the good stuff we love about being in a bookstore. I've been to this location a few times; close to home. For the most part, I've never needed any assistance finding what I was looking for, until today. I needed some guidance with particular subject matter. Upon my entrance, into the store a young gentleman offered his services. I took him up on his offer. Customer service isn't what it used to be. However, he was courteous, knowledgeable, and quite helpful. The young man told me to go ahead and take the material, sit in their lounge to figure out what I needed, and left me alone. The staff at this B&N are always kind and helpful. I've never had a bad experience here! The inventory isn't as ample as of the main Bay Area locations, that's the only negative I can think of. I went to Barnes and Noble today looking for a gift of Tarot cards. Because of low life thieves, they were located behind the checkout counter. I asked the young lady behind the counter if I could see some of them- there were about twenty different options. I couldn't see the selections from my vantage point and she wasn't about to be helpful in the least! I really needed to buy the gift at that point so I did end up buying but if I'd had time to look elsewhere or order online I definitely would have! I was on my way to San Mateo to my friend's mom's 82nd birthday and had heard about a book I knew my friend might like. I also was reading a book that I wanted to share with my other friend and had made good timing and had about 45 minutes to spare so ran in this store for a few minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. In a day of Kindles and Amazon I find it nostalgic to go in a book store and smell the books. As Borders are going out of business, it kind of makes me sad. As a writer myself, I wonder did I miss the boat and wait too long to find my first novel on book store shelves? Are bound books a thing of the past? I hope not. And if I have to spend $50 to support nostalgia then I am willing to do it in a store with such great customer service as this one. I asked them if they had a computer where I could look up the books I was looking for and they told me with a smile that was what they were for. Not only did they find every book I was looking for, they found a duplicate in the back. The customer service was amazing... and they have it down to a tee. I don't think I ran into one employee that made me feel anything but welcome. Hey, by the way, I love Amazon too but I don't want all book stores to be something vintage that our kids tell their kids about. This store is pretty big. You can find pretty much anything you want from books, games, toys, even records. Yes you can probably buy books cheaper on Amazon, but they do have a pretty large selection here and if they don't have it, chances are they can order it. I was looking for a certain book and asked an employee, they didn't have it in stock but looked around at other local stores to see if it was in stock, and if not they are able to order it. The store was clean, the walkway were clean and clutter free. They also have a Starbucks inside. The downside is that they will not take Starbucks gift cards or let you use the Starbucks app. I don't know why. But they do have a huge selection of goodies. A normal Starbucks will have maybe some pastries and cake pops. This Starbucks had 2 fridge cases which had cupcakes, cheesecake slices, cookies, different bars, panini sandwiches etc. I ad the lemon bar and it was very good, not too sweet and not too sour. They have cute little min games on a turn thing near the registers. They also have Hallmark cards, which I was surprised to see those. read more

Very clean bookstore right off the highway. The parklot is large with close parking. They have Peets coffee inside with a separate door. The staff is helpful and welcoming. Fabulous book store. Huge selection of more then books and music. The small coffee shop inside is the perfect place to enjoy a few more chapters or do a little work online. They even have seats out front for nice weather days. The kids area is wonderfully inviting with a small stage to enjoy during story times, little tables and trains to keep little hands busy while you search the selection. The information desk staff is INCREDIBLE they pay amazing attention to customers. Each one can help you locate what you came for, order anything not in store and give recommendations for other purchases based on your likes. I am so glad this store is in town. read more

Although I love the technology of being able to buy books online I still enjoy the feel of walking into a bookstore and browse. I have always loved B&N. I love it even better when there's a Starbucks attached to it. Being able to sip a nice cup of Java while browsing for books is refreshing. My daughter enjoys going to the kid section while thumbing through the books at her reading level. Yes u can prolly find cheaper books online but having the old fashion ring ur purchase at a register is quite neat. I hope they stick around for a long time. read more

I miss the days of bookstores and bookshopping. Sure, many of them wound up on a shelf somewhere waiting to be read, but eventually they'll either be read or used to start a fire for survival during an emergency. Either way a worthwhile investment. Nonetheless, there's a special magic about a bookstore that you can't replace with a Kindle, Nook, etc.. With a market and consumer base that makes it practically impossible for an independent local owned bookstore to stay open, we're kind of stuck with Barnes and Nobles. They have obviously helped knock their largest competitor off(Borders) thus ensuring if you want that special book shopping experience, this is your only choice. Well, I must say that the store does do a great job of keeping that (litspirit tossed with sheer capitalism) spirit alive. They have a truly huge selection of material here. Plenty to choose from in every section. My personal favorite stops would be the "Bargain" areas because you can always find something fun to pick up for yourself or a gift. This store has an awesome and helpful knowledgeable staff who has looked up prices of books online to helpe compare(if I wanted to buy it in store or through their website) and often they were able to save me a decent amount. Most recently I saw this pretty outstanding art book which came to $160 and he let me know I could get it through their website for $100. Email coupons and other savings make shopping here worthwhile too and you can really save some money from other giants like Amazon. This bookstore could be a 5 star if they had a little more room to paruse through potential purchases, a slightly bigger selection of certain topics(art, architecture, philosophy), but overall a great place to stop and shop. read more
