I ordered a NAS record for my son online and visited the store on a busy Saturday, just before Christmas. I took some time to look for books on cloud computing, but I found the technology section to be somewhat limited. When I wanted to find another book, I approached the customer service desk, where a young lady was very helpful in assisting me. The checkout process took a bit longer than I anticipated, which was understandable given the holiday rush. I did feel that the prices were quite high, especially compared to what I usually find on Amazon. However, I would consider returning if I need to make another purchase. read more

While many times I have in the past have visited this location and received great service. Today was another story, the person taking our order was passive aggressive while performing her duties. she glared at us the entires time, as if we were interrupting her. We order two coffees and a cake pop. Each interaction was consistently worse, creating an awkward and unbearable moment. This location had a particular foul smell in it as well, creating poor experience. The Holyoke location has consistent better service. I drive to Hadley for a peaceful experience, not to receive this dismissive and rude behavior for a paid service. read more

Sometime in April 2024. Barnes and Noble Mountain Farms Mall, Hadley, MA. There's something about a Barnes and Noble. I'm glad they still exist. I haven't purchased much there but I do frequent there since my kids are at the school nearby. I might go in there from time to time waiting for them to come out after school. They can walk there and it's quite convenient. The cafe is usually busy and my kids enjoy perusing the LEGO section and Harry Potter section. I have to say one of the things I do there is to get ideas. I take a look at the CURRENT EVENTS shelf and find tons of books I've heard about on my podcasts and interviews. Some I might want to check out later on my Audiobook apps. One of the new books that came out recently was featured on the Barnes and Noble window with a huge poster and many books inside. I found it immediately at the library on Audiobook and have been enjoying it greatly with our son as we go back and forth to school and practice. I'm guessing the internet hasn't been extended to Hadley just yet, hence this massive Barnes & Noble manages to continue to survive, but we'll take it since we like to browse. That's the thing about bookstores now: without a price advantage, they either have to be big (to have lots of titles) or small and curated (the independents). The B&N here also has the usual café and enough seating, and it's air-conditioned. Nota bene they don't take Starbucks cards here. read more

The kids are huge devotees of B & N. I have been to most of them across the state but this one holds a fondness in my heart. Not sure if it is because it is in the happy valley or the caffeine from the Starbuck's drinks I get but I really enjoy it here. Like the other locations, they have a pretty good manga selection and the dude there told me they might be expanding it soon. I like being able to sit and relax while the kids shop and destroy, always knowing where I am - also, this Starbuck's takes your B&N card and gives you 10% off. read more

I loveeee book stores, so this being the closest one to my school is js awesome. They have a starbucks, that doesn't accept starbucks giftcards, BUT does take the barnes and noble discount so it's nice to just grab a cup of latte and sit down with a nice..book :). There are chairs and tables in the SB sections...and random chairs throughout the store. It's a great atmosphere, and I always have a great time just sitting there with my cup of coffee, i mean half the people there are just reading anyways. I can spend 1+ hours there just browsing. They have sale section at the front when you enter..and it's pretty big but it's hard to find books sometimes, but there are people everywhere to help you..especially at the info counter in the middle of the store. read more

Ok store with a good selection of books. The only the one downside is it politics section that leans heavily towards right wing pundits books that are almost spammed to market on a regular basis hogging most of the current events section in this manly liberal area of Massachusetts. So a number of good political books that would offer a great ranges of arguments are pushed out making the diversity of political books there to be desired for. While I welcome different view points of view, I don't like having sift through the all books by fringe political activists like Michael Savage, David Horowitz, etc. Barnes and Nobel needs to take regional tastes into account in their current events section instead of pushing books that sell better nationally. read more

I've been to this Barnes & Noble in the past and they have been helpful. There was even a point where I considered it the best B&N in the area. But sadly the last couple of years have not been kind to this place. The selection is still reasonable but they've trimmed down certain sections of the store. But the biggest problem is the help! During a special sale I called up to see if they had a few movies in stock. The girl I talked to said they had the ones I was looking for and got it together. I assumed all would be well when I got there. Boy was I wrong! When I got there I found out that the items put aside were only 25% correct! One item was there, one item was something they said they didn't have (had to go to another store to get it) but they apparently "found it" and put it aside, another was what I was looking for but it was a regular DVD and not the Blu-Ray version and the other they didn't have even though the site said they did! After hearing about this I asked if they could check the back room. I had some luck previously with that and thought it might help. I watched as the girl went to the manager inside of going into the back room and had a talk with him. She then came back and said that they weren't there. Talk about laziness! They didn't even go into the back room. If they had I would have at least believed they cared about my situation even though this store does a poor job of updating the inventory! (By the way, they sad those 2 movies I was looking for were at the store since March when they actually weren't. That's almost 4 months without updating the inventory!) Don't get me wrong. I love Barnes & Noble and have remained loyal throughout the years. I will still remain loyal to them. But I think I'll avoid this store considering they have employees who don't care about the customer. That even includes the manager. Try the Holyoke store. You'll have a better experience there! read more

Even though there is a good selection of books the staff, specifically the management, is extremely rude. On Sunday I arrived at 8:03 believing the store was open until 9 (due to an online error). Instead of politely explaining that the store closed at eight he rudely stated that "we closed three minutes ago; she made the announcement". I tried to apologized stating that I was informed of the wrong closing time but he didn't even let me finish my sentence. I've never been talked to so rudely. read more

Good store with awesome service! The guy who helped me find the books I was looking for was super friendly, had a great sense of humor, and knew great recommendations based on the books I had with me already. The lady at the cash register was similar, knew good recommendations based on my books and walked me through the membership process patiently and with a great sense of humor. It's busy enough to look and feel like a thriving bookstore and spacious enough to avoid feeling crowded. The political section leaves a bit to be desired in terms of diversity of opinion (lots of right wing pundits at the moment, contrary to the political majority in the valley) and the featured books on the ends of the shelves often don't match the genres on the shelves which I found a little strange but that could also be a personal thing. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the cafe has a lot of room to sit and chill while reading or working. A lot of kids come here after school it looks like but they don't cause any trouble and just hang out in the cafe. read more

This store plays the most annoying music that is not conducive to reading a book I might want to buy. I keep hoping it's just that day but today it was fast accordion music. It seemed bizarre to me for a bookstore. Can never wait to get out of there fast enough. read more

Begs to go out of business!!I swore Barnes & Noble and particularly the Hadley Mass location off,a few years ago due to; rude and abusive management /staff, the most terrible coupon & sale policies,the idea that they try to portray themselves as separate company all together from their own website when convenient in not honoring promotions, books and other merchandise being gross & damaged in-store(who's going to be expected to pay full price for a book of Rumi with coffee ring stains and greasy finger prints imprinted for a lifetime!! I could find better for a dime at my church rummage sale!!),this store rarely to never will have the exact item you want and certainly not when you have a coupon and are able to head down there, as you can see this store has an array of problems to which is it's own demise.Unfortunately for me,I had a lapse in memory and cut through yesterday(admittedly to use the restroom),and got caught up looking at Barbie dolls,(I have a friend who is a major collector),with amazement but also deep discouragement by the fact that they removed their best dept. (music & movies),replacing the entire back section with toys. As if this store wasn't already in the grave,I guess they figure a last -ditch survival attempt,offer toys &make an X-MASS killing?I am doubtful that's going to save this sinking ship!!As my eye caught a glimpse of a graphic novel in the new release's as I was walking out to leave,(graphic novels & comic books are my biggest weakness!!),an obnoxious sales associate made every possible effort to not only acknowledge me, but somehow got me into a conversation(which I wasn't in the mood for nor had the time & don't even like the place anymore),she was very flashy and car salesman type, it was obvious they are desperate for business if they are talking me up to that extent as it was clear I had no interest and was just passing through.They done me wrong way too much, too many times in the past.They never used to do this, so maybe I am not the lone voice complaining and they have realized that they better try and make some sane changes here quick to save their sinking ship, and maybe just maybe,the customer knows what we're talking about- the customer is right $$$$I respected her brave attempt and bold sales pitch, as she walked down to some tables with a 50% off sale happening,after I expressed to her that I was fine and didn't need any assistance and would never buy unless it was something I was dying for,couldn't get out of the library, and only if they honored a coupon if I happened to have one.Luckily a customer who was wanting her help, followed us and rescued me from her capture!I did not have the heart to just walk out, so I poked around a bit, just long enough to notice some hardcovers,nice looking books right on a front display, then comics, a children's table with some lovely stories,many beautiful books I must admit.Then the classics table where I escaped ,catching my attention was "My Antonia",(which is rare & been wishing to read it!),I wondered if it was a sign seeing''My Antonia'',and being delighted in general by the selection which was semi-appealing.I decided to stick to my plan,however,and left to think & contemplate.50% off still doesn't make up for all the past abuses,no matter how much I want a book,I live next to my town library which is FREE.They are also a lot nicer to me as a patron, and loyal!!Lessons Barnes&Noble could certainly benefit by learning & implementing!!I received an e-mail today,in which there was no coupon (all the coupon e-mails were conveniently not good anymore!!),but a ''FREE TOTE BAG with every purchase of 3 books or more'' was being offered instead.Of course,''My Antonia'' and all the other cute books resurfaced at the top of my thoughts.I liked the bag, and I figured it would be worth going out of my way back down there and purchasing some books on the half off tables.When I went to the register,I inquired about the free tote, and the lousy associate said ''we're out'',confirming it with the equally awful manager who couldn't have cared less.Honestly I was pissed!!The imbecile then hands me 6 books,like I am supposed to carry 6 books around to other stores in my miniature-sized hands!!The decent thing to do, knowing how disappointed I was and for bringing in much needed $$,would have been to offer me one of the million bags they had laying around collecting dust!!Yet this schmuck doesn't even give me the cheap plastic bag everyone is entitled to!!My punishment for dare I request what I so rightfully earned&was specifically e-mailed to me/advertised!!What'd they have 2 bags?You expect me to believe you sold out when nobody has been in here for days?They never had any bags,it was a lie,gimmick or trickery to get me down there.The books are being returned&blocking B&N e-mail!I'm ordering ''My Antonia''from Amherst Books& am happy to support them$$$$Get some CLASS Barnes& Noble Hadley!! read more

A few years ago, my wife was very sick. There were several nights that I would stay awake or wake later in the night so that I could give her medication. So, I started to read...a lot. In about a year, I read the better part of 40 books, most of which came from Barnes and Noble. It has become one of my favorite stores in the area. With a built in Starbucks, comfy chairs and stacks of books, the only thing it's missing, is a fire place. Of course, if they did have a fire place, I probably would spend to much time and money there. The prices are at or slightly above market as compared to Amazon.com but when you consider the service and savings on shipping, it usually works out to a wash. Besides, it's nice to be able to talk to someone especially when it comes time to pre-order or look for that hard to find book. Okay, here's my only hang up. Some people I think take advantage of the stores comfy-chair areas. There have been several instances when I've seen people sleeping, reading tons of magazines with absolutely no intention in buying. Today I went to purchase a holiday gift (Lego) at B&N online. The transaction would not go through after a couple of tries so I called the Hadley store which is where I typically go anyway. The staff person was fantastic. She located the item on-line, doubled checked with me on the exact item stating the Lego model #. She told me I had free shipping, helped get my membership straightened out and then applied the 15% discount. I had a gift card which I applied to the transaction as well before finalizing payment. She also read my address back to me to ensure it was being shipped correctly. At the end of the transaction, she asked if there was anything else should could help with. She was vey friendly and upbeat throughout the transaction. A pleasure to deal with her. read more

Great store, bad service. Went here to get a last minute birthday gift and knew they have a big sign that says "Free Gift Wrapping". Bought a $6 clearance book, $16 gift and $25 gift card. Asked if the book could be gift-wrapped and the woman working said "We only do that if there's no line..." What kind of gift-wrapping service is that? There was one register open and one customer in line behind me. What are the chances of there being no line at all? I gave her a funny look because that didn't make any sense and decided to go buy wrapping at Walmart next store, no big deal. But then she charged me $67... she made us get back in line and wait to get a refund, then still wouldn't gift wrap my book, and also didn't give us the member discount even though we're members and told her that. After all of this, she wouldn't put a refund back on my credit card, insisted on either cash or store credit (????). She gave me $19.34 in cash and I tried handing her 64 cents to get an $20 bill (simple math right?) and she refused. I'm sorry but if you can't understand simple mathematics maybe you shouldn't work on a register and deal with money? I'm a waitress and constantly do these simple calculations in the top of my head because it's courtesy (especially after you messed up someone's transactions.) This Barnes and Noble staff is inexperienced, rude and definitely not the brightest. read more
