Always feel comfortable just coming in and picking a couple books at random to enjoy. No pressure to buy. Clerks are very nice, store is relatively clean. Compared to others. But I really wish patrons would have respect for the books.

The front is quite striking at night

Oh noooooo! A chaaaaaain!! The skinny: Really beautiful, grand bookstore with a ton of options, a full magazine section, really cool specials and unique book collections/collector's editions. They've also got a surprisingly good collection of board games and specialty clothing. My favorite perk? A coffee shop :) a lot of book stores have them now, but I really like this one. A pick me up and a place to sit down and enjoy that book really makes the modern book store experience. This one even has an outdoor patio portion. On the down side, it's worth mentioning that this is the most expensive way to buy a book (a brand-new, new-release from an honest to goodness book store). And, even at a store as thoroughly stocked as this one, it's always possible they won't have that specific thing you came in looking for. Not done reading? There's more! Let's tackle this - I love small, mom'n'pop, used book stores. I love those classic books, the collectible books, the old dog-eared books that have been loved almost to pieces. BUT, I go to those stores when I'm not looking for something specific or something new. When it comes down to it, when I'm shopping for a book, I usually have something specific in mind, and it's usually a new book. My first stop is, honestly, Amazon. So what does this store offer the online shopping doesn't? 1. Try it before you buy it. Flip through some pages, heft that book, see if it's everything you hoped :) 2. Instant gratification. No waiting for shipping, you can grab it off a shelf, buy it, then bury your nose in it over a cup of coffee as long as your heart desires and your schedule allows. 3. Really cool exclusive collectibles and Collector's Editions. The danger with online shopping is that you're not likely to find something you *weren't* looking for, not so with a brick'n'mortar! My last trip in here I found a copy of Dune with gilded gold pages and a swanky faux-leather cover. Seriously awesome find! So, those are the wins for me, in all their word-wall detail.

This location has really gone downhill. There is fecal matter behind the toilet that looks like it has been there for months.

Wow! This place is reorganized and has a nice gentleman staff member now too…read more There's a whole room on your left as you come in devoted to classics and award-winning books. There are even chairs here and there to relax on. The lower level nonfiction wasn't very impressive but I'll be back to check out the classics. (It was too crowded to go in on this Saturday.) They should really put a sign outside saying they've reorganized and cleaned up and have three levels of books. Otherwise people who stopped by when it was old and crappy won't even know.

I had a pretty tight timeline for getting on the road, but as I was on my way from the hotel to the…read morecar to leave town, I spotted this bookstore...and happily blew my itinerary by spending almost an hour here. It is a GREAT used bookstore and would be so in any city. + Handsome--hardwood floors and copious natural light + Four floors of stock + Tidy and well organized + Exceptional variety of subjects and genres + All books in good condition or better (most better) + Staggeringly low prices (to a Chicagoan) + LPs and DVDs Plus, they are operated by the Central Arkansas Library System, so I hope and assume that proceeds from the store benefit the libraries, which is always awesome. On top of all that, I finally found a book here for which I had been searching through dozens of bookstores in several cities for over a year. And although I would have happily taken a shabby paperback, what I found was a boxed, cloth-bound Library of America edition, including several of the author's other works--FOR ONLY SIX DOLLARS! That kind of bookstore good fortune is extraordinary.
