Some people are like kids in a candy store. My brain feels that way every time I visit Barnes and Noble. I enjoy the selection, the organization, the variety, and the people that you meet in this vast bookstore. Older people and children show their excitement as they pick up their favorite cooking books and fantasy selections. I especially appreciate that they have every genre you can imagine. I tend to gravitate towards non-fiction but occasionally a good author will entice me with their fiction craftsmanship. The staff is always willing to order any books that they don't carry and/or suggest similar books that they do have. Remember, the more you read, the more you know. This is the best Barnes and Noble store there is. My daughter and I love to go and just browse and then sit at the cafe and talk and read. Every worker there is so friendly and helpful. As soon as we open the door and smell that familiar lovely smell, it's like coming home. We love it! read more

My old book group used to meet here. I have spent many a cozy evening at Barnes. This particular location has an amazing selection of books and frankly I think it's a gr eat store. They have tables with plenty of space and sell food and drink as well. It is a great place to get a snack while your talking about your favorite book. I really love book stores in general but there are hardly any around anymore. This location is nice with plenty of parking and quite spacious and nice inside. You are not going to find a nicer book store in this part of Connecticut. read more

I am reviewing this place as an eatery and as a bookstore. They are the " last man standing" in terms of retail bookstores, and personally I buy my books from that unmentionable online retailer. Occasionally I come here for a gift book, but mostly I come here to read magazines. The magazine selection is huge and I might spends two hours reading. But I usually get coffee, which is very good, and a sandwich, which are good as well. The sandwich in the picture is chicken on ciabatta, warm and toasted. This is a nice, big, clean, fully stocked BN. They have a Starbucks sit down cafe inside. They sell Godiva chocolates, and oh yeah a plethora of various reading/audio material and a bunch of other miscellaneous items, help you part with your $$. Each "department" (topic) of reading material has quite a variety of items by various authors. The only department I thought that was rather small, was the audio books dept, they didn't have anything I'd personally consider listening to, but then again there's many departments in here I personally am not remotely interested in. Any way I came in to just look at a couple of books I'd seen online and did end up making a purchase. The staff seem ready to help, without being too pushy, thankfully so! I mean this is a kind of place, you can walk into, and after what seems like a relatively small amount of time, you've realized, I spent how much time in here!? The prices are printed on the books from the factory, I always wonder, how do they decide how much they'll charge for each book? I mean the books I was looking at, I was obviously interested in, but the prices are a bit steep..But I guess that's another story. read more

What do you do with kids on a rainy day? I have found it easy to spend at least 2 hours here. We sit in the children's section and read and we usually buy a book or two. Then we have something to eat and the kids love the various sweet tasty things and I can get decent coffee. The selection of adult titles is decent but they can order me anything. And the sale table allows me to buy gift books for sometimes absurdly low prices. read more

Brought it back to the counter and the clerk says, "What, do you want me to refund you for something you already ate?" I love this bookstore. The prices of their books and magazines/craft kits are very reasonable. They always have the latest novel. The big sofa chairs will put you in the mood to read a cozy mystery on a rainy or snowy day with a cup of tea. The cafe is the best! Cafe Manager & workers go above and beyond to make sure the customer is happy with their order. I come here to study for Uni all the time. Best place to set up your MacBook with a delicious latte from the cafe and work. Also, B&N has every magazine you can think of. Nice friendly people ... safe and cozy place. read more

Starbucks - the 2 ladies at this location at 540pm were so rude. Everything was difficult and a hassle. I stood there ignored til I asked for help. I asked for a Coffee and Quiche - simple. My name on the cup was an issue even though I said to spell it however. The Coffee needed to be brewed so I decided to just have Quiche. This turned into having the menu explained to me complete with brewing techniques of espresso and definitions. I decided to scrap the whole order, it just wasn't worth the hassle. I sat to read in the crowded dining area where the 2 employees publicly shamed me for cancelling my order. They called me rude, went on about my attitude, I should have compassion, they don't want to deal with people like me, etc... I was shamed in front of a crowd because I wanted a no hassle drink and bite? I was so embarrassed I left. read more

it's a good bookstore with a good Starbucks. What kept this review from being 4 or 5 stars was the consistently disgusting state of the men's bathroom. If there was an award for "Most Urine on a Bathroom Floor", this store would dominate the competition. Have you ever stepped on a sticky movie theater floor because it was covered in dried soda? Just like that, but it's not soda. While peeling your shoes from the floor, you have to avoid a half dozen or so, balls of toilet paper tumbleweed blowing all over the floor like some sick restroom version of the Wild West. After all of that, you can't even wash your hands without getting soaked by gallons of water that rests on the counter around the sink at all times. Aside from that, it's a great place. read more

Very strict return policy!! I just wanted to exchange a Thomas train that I bought my grandson! For $12.99, a superior had to come up! I was over the 14 days-but because I'm a member, they allow 30I had the receipt, the unopened package. All I wanted was to be able to exchange it! I think they ought to be a little more accommodating if they want us to shop there-versus having books, etc shipped free to our door from Amazon. read more

They have a wide selection of magazines including music mags from the UK that I didn't realize were available in the US. I was glad to find a Barnes and Noble around here, where I could go and get some studying done and grab a coffee. This location is very nice and quiet, with lots of parking. I just wish there were more power outlets in the cafe. While there is sufficient seating in the cafe, the only power outlets are along the wall opposite where all the tables are. a newish b&n in the area.. bigger than the one that used to be down rt 1, and this one is closer to 95, closer to the post mall. a lot more books and magazines and usually pretty well organized - last time i was there it seemed they had fewer books than i remembered though, like someone took every other shelf out of the place. starbucks in here, couches & chairs, lots of people sitting around reading and not buying books. read more

Barnes and Noble used to be a staple of my childhood. Sipping a nice latte while browsing books, movies, and CDs. Those days are long gone. Yes, you can still buy a tasty latte here, but that warmth and coziness is a thing of the past. Now, in an effort to stay afloat, Barnes has become a toy store with a diminishing book selection. This wouldn't be such a bad thing, except that Barnes still hasn't been able to adjust their business model to stay current with the times and their obvious competition. If I can rate negative 100 I would. This is the worst store I've ever been in. The customer service is terrible and I was told they are trained for "Customer Service". The old lady in particular has the most terrible attitude I've ever encountered in my life. I had a book preordered and ordered the wrong type and I have no choice but to buy it because if I preordered the right book, it will not arrive before the holiday. read more

The reason why we're giving it one star is customer service. The Starbucks is nice, and there is a nice selection of books, but on numerous occasions I have noticed many people sitting around and not buying. I'm almost positive this is due to the fact that on numerous occasions upon entering this store the line for books is extremely long and there are never more than two people on the register. Worse than that, the people on the register don't seem to know what they're doing. When the cashier says "Oh, please, help me," it's not a good sign. Reminds me of Mrs. Wiggins from the Carol Burnett Show. The cashier next to her was slow, slow, slow, overcharged us $50 for our books, didn't apologize, and when his manager came to help, he informed us that it would be almost impossible to get our money back. We asked him to simply void the transaction, and he wouldn't. He kept pushing a gift card, and basically said that if we didn't take the gift card, our money would be held up for weeks. Managers from other Barnes and Nobles thought this was ludicrous, and didn't understand why he responded this way. Do yourself a favor, and STAY AWAY. read more
