Clean, large, large sized cafe, friendly service at this newish Barnes and Noble. While I like the idea of supporting a local business instead of a chain, B&N still feels better than an Amazon. When you walk in, you get a good feeling based on the store layout. There's adequate selection and recommendations throughout, as well as sections to browse in and plenty to catch your eye. The departments aren't super distinguished from each other which likely helps to maximize the number of products displayed. The cafe has quite a bit of seating so it's a good place to hang out. We finally visited the B&N on Route 17 by Fashion Plaza. My husband and I stopped inside after work two weeks ago. We started off walking around together, but split off and got lost walking through the store and checking it all out. The space is massive and has high ceilings. Plus, it's very bright and light inside. All the sections are organized and feature good visual merchandising of new arrivals and/or books on sale. There's a nice cafe area towards the back with ample tables and seating at the back left of the store. Throughout the store, there are also lots of comfortable chairs to sit on if you find interesting reading material that you want to preview or flip through. My husband said it best when he said, "Wow, there's so much to find - you could never get bored here!" I know that we will be back. read more

Upping my review to 5 stars. This has become our preferred location. The store remains large, well-stocked, and clean with helpful staff and an abundant selection. Most times, books I want that cannot be found in other locations can be found here, and I believe this is due to their sheer size in this location, being able to house more books. The staff are remarkable. Kind, helpful, patient, courteous, and they take their time assisting you. This is a great touch. They offer promos and sales, so be sure to catch those. The premium membership makes things worthwhile. Their selection of vinyl far surpasses other locations, and I often find myself disappearing into their music department as a result. Huge Barnes & Noble location. This was a former Toys R Us location, so if you know that former brand, you already know the size their stores used to be. With Barnes & Noble taking over the building, you have probably one of their largest locations. It's definitely the largest I've been to and I've been to a lot of locations. This is also one of the more modern Barnes & Noble locations on the interior. This particular store seemed to be a bit newer than others I've been to - almost as if they just opened more recently. The entire store was clean, neat, and overall looked great. Most Barnes & Noble locations carry similar stock overall, though the actual selection can vary whether it's number of copies of something or whether they have it in store or not. What they don't have in the store, they can order it for you. This location seemed to have more than most others, but it's probably due to the size of the store. Those still looking for blu rays/DVDs will find a pretty good selection here. Any staff I encountered were friendly, accommodating, and pleasant, which goes a long way these days. The parking is plentiful and all around the building. Located in a busy shopping area on the busy 17, so use caution with the traffic. Being from NY, this is not my local Barnes & Noble location - but I do wish it was closer to me. If in the area again and in the need for a Barnes & Noble, I'd surely pay this place a return visit. read more

This Barnes and Noble location is my favorite one to visit in north Jersey! It's a relatively new spot and the layout of it is super clean and spaced out. I get lost in here because there is so much to look through and see. Their inventory is always well stock and they organize the books so well. They have plenty of seating around the store in case you want to read through a book you picked up! read more

The new Barnes & Noble really hit it out of the ballpark with its new location. The organic modern design is top notch and the layout of every inch of the interior is vibrant. Every section of the store is well organized and there are large signs to guide you through the many sections. There is an on site Café, which has plenty of seating, with patrons either enjoying their selection and/or studying. Please, take time out and check out the new and improved Barnes & Noble. You can definitely tell the store is clean and newly built when entering. It is stocked well, and you have all the different genres of books one would expect. The staff is friendly and approachable and popped by to ask me if I needed anything several times. They also have a great discount section if you are looking to save. We were able to take advantage of a buy one get one 50% off. However, there are a few drawbacks to the store. It is so oddly laid out as others have mentioned. It is like a maze, and there is no rhyme or reason to the layout. It took me quite a while to even figure out how to navigate back-and-forth through the different sections, and I had to pay close attention to the signs. You will have fantasy next to romcom woven next to art. Due to this maze like effect, you really can't easily figure out where to go unless you are familiar with the store. The other qualm, and just my opinion is that the café is not what I would hope in a bookstore setting. It is less café and more of a food court vibe. When I think of a bookstore, I like the idea of grabbing a coffee and sitting and looking through a book in a nook. That said it is definitely designed so people can easily access Wi-Fi and work from the store. I think I'm just missing the old school comfy vibe. Location is easy location to get to right off Route 17. You cannot miss it! read more

There is this employee that was rude on one particular day, a middle-aged caucasian male barista at this Barnes & noble pressured me to upgrade my coffee size from small to medium. As I was ordering, all I asked for was a small coffee. He then chuckled and said pretty loudly "what that's it? And are you sure you want a size small? it's such a tiny cup." As if to say I'm poor and can't afford a bigger cup or that he is assuming all I can afford is a cup of coffee and no food. But I wasn't hungry or anything, all I wanted was a cup of coffee to sip. Idk he might need some sensitivity training because some people may be budgeting or some people think they can swindle a few more cents out of people- which is bad practice and screams cheap. However, the interior and set up was pretty nice, with nice furniture. I just think it's creepy that you can get cornered here pretty easily with all its nooks and crannies. I like the old set-up better. This "new" set-up is copying NYC-style bookstores. read more

Who doesn't like Barnes &Noble!?!? Service is what I would expect and more than adequate and I do not need to be served but assisted. Except the coffee bar area which usually the servers are nice and make better drinks than Starbucks. Selection is vast and I like how it has become more Borders (RIP) like in genre organization over author organization...Makes it easier to look for goodies. Overall better than it used to be. Value is spot on, with the internet killing books, I will be happy to buy a physical copy any time no matter the price. I bought Silmarillion with no hesitation. Plus, when buying books it will always be more but it is ok. Their discount section is nice and you can find some interesting reads. I love Barnes & Noble and now that they are the only shop left, I like it even more that I joined their membership program. Also, they have toys and Legos which I have bought as gift for others. This location is nice...Just wish it had a little more Star Wars goodies and bobble heads like my location in CA. read more

This is a beautiful new space, but it's a downgrade from the old location in Ridgewood due to the elimination of the used book annex. Sad.

I'm happy that the new location is finally open, and I know I'll be here a lot, and the selection is great, but I have some complaints... 1. The lighting. It's track lighting with super bright-white lights pointed in all directions, rather than diffused lighting. This may seem like a weird thing to complain about, but I feel like no matter where I am, so many of the track lights are pointed directly in my eyes. I'm currently in the cafe, and I have to use my hair to block the nearest light so that I can sit on my laptop and focus comfortably. It's crazy how harsh the lighting is in here and how uncomfortable it is. If there was ONE thing I could request from the managers of this store, it's PLEASE find some way to diffuse the lighting in here. It's really really really harsh on the eyes and blindingly bright. The lighting alone changes the whole vibe of the store. 2. The cafe. I'm happy there are a lot of spaces to sit, eat, drink, and work, and plenty of seating, but it has a bit of a fast-food feel rather than a cozy bookstore. I was really hopeful this would be a cozy, relaxing place to work, but something about it feels more clerical and stiff and I'm not sure if I'll spend as much time in the cafe as I was hoping I might. The furniture is stiff, uncomfortable, and characterless. 3. The layout of the store. It's a maze design, and it's really difficult to navigate. I love simply spending time in Barnes and Noble, but to find anything is almost stressful. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, I couldn't really figure out a rhyme or reason to how some of the books are organized. This doesn't bother me enough to stop coming, but the other two issues do. I want to be here all the time. I just feel good inside a Barnes and Noble bookstore. And this location is now closer to my house, so I'm just a couple of backroad turns away which I love. And I'm not even against the idea of updating the aesthetic to be a little bit more modern. But I swear the crazy lighting and uncomfortable furniture will probably keep me from hanging in the cafe every day while I work remotely. Super disappointing, since the other location felt a lot cozier and more inviting. read more

Barnes & Noble in Paramus is a huge store with a vast selection of books, games, and toys spanning all interests. The associates are knowledgeable and ready to help. This is a great place to relax and look at books you are interested in purchasing. I love Barnes & Noble in Paramus! So glad that the store is finally open! read more

The place looks amazing and bright, but their Starbucks coffee is very very very watered down!!! I love Starbucks coffee but this B&N Starbucks coffee is made to make a ton of money using the Starbucks name to price them up high while serving a very very very diluted coffee. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The parking lot is a mess and the store layout is even worse. Their once-mighty used section is now completely gone. Half the genre sections were missing letters and this place hasn't been open more than, like, three months. At least the staff was helpful in letting me know that teachers no longer get discounts. Unless this place gets a complete redesign (not likely), avoid like the plague. read more
