Barnes & Noble are currently the 'king' of the Big Box stores in the books and literature field. It's a great place to hang out for a bit. They have a wide assortment of new books. Plenty of journals, multimedia and other entertainment products as well. They also have a cafe in-store for patrons to rest at. My only gripe is that the workers there aren't exactly the nicest. I've been to this store many times and several of those visits including rude customer service and abject apathy. read more

Open floor plan is easy to navigate for all patrons, including in wheelchairs. There's an endless selection of options for everyone. It's not just for book readers. There's books and magazines of all genres, movies, games, toys, greeting cards, journals, a Starbucks to sit and relax in, a children's area, special events and so much more! Prices can be about average for most items, some in a higher price point and others (especially on sale) are great deals. It's best to price compare prior to hitting the registers. The layout can be altered frequently which makes it seem difficult to find specific items- but the staff is always there to support and provide guidance. I love that they will personally escort you through the maze of aisles directly to what you're looking for. They are knowledgeable and professional. My biggest complaint is the unkempt restrooms. The trash cans are frequently overflowing onto the floor and it's always advisable to check stalls for toilet paper availability as there are many times that it was necessary to find an alternate stall due to unkempt and poorly stocked stalls. read more

First time in a long time recently, and I guess like the Bee Gees once warbled, B&N continues to Stay Alive. Having seen one of their newer concept stores in Florida last year, I can firmly say that I hate the new design and while stores of this age certainly are dated, they simply make more sense. As many others have mentioned, it comes down to having more of a "cozy" feel that invites lingering and perusal, versus the newer design which is far more of a borrowed minimalist idea from the college bookstores that B&N manages, which is to get in and get out. Nope, this one still has the huge magazine racks, nice seating along the front windows, wide ass isles, and most importantly having more inventory/older catalog titles from authors versus the new stores which at best only have the most recent release. Past that it's a promise to have it shipped to you or they'll redirect you to the website. Thanks, but no thanks on those two dumb ideas. I think B&N has proved resilient enough and I know there are enough people out there that like to hold a physical product versus a stupid e-reader to make this chain viable far more long term then I ever expected. Now, in what form will they exist? Will it be redesigned older legacy store like this, or will it be the newer stores that are 1/2 the size of stores like this? Time will tell but either way, I'm still a sucker for the chain so I'll be there. read more

I had one horrible experience this morning while ordering a small coffee (no less) in their cafe. The barista guy was incredibly rude and down right obnoxious towards me! And what's worse, the store manager who was involved did absolutely nothing about it! What a way to start your day! I would suggest not to buy any of their books or products of any kind. Let's show this company that it's customers will not tolerate being treated in such a s disrepectful way! And if their manager will do nothing, then we'll stop buying from them! read more

The people here are very friendly and if the prices weren't so expensive I think I would be here more often.

Weird, hipster doofus girl is always at cafe( probably the manager or lead) is super condescending, pushy and always questions your food and choices. Yes I know what I want! Do not ask me for the 10 th time if I want cold brew. She annoys me and some people I know. Also they do not keep enough different brewed coffee on hand. Not everybody wants Pike Place or Cold Brew. Desserts are ok. Some of the employees are nice it's just the one ...if I can find her name I will call to complain about her. Just a smug, pushy person who runs me the wrong way. We have had a love/hate relationship with this Barnes & Noble since Day 1. I believe they go through special training to learn how to lose customers and chase them towards Amazon. When our kids were young and wanted to buy books/use gift cards, they were treated like sub-customers. Today was the "cherry on top" of worst-ever experiences. We decided to give our local store our business instead of traveling a half-hour away to another store. Mistake #1. We ordered our drinks and snacks and found seating to enjoy writing and reading, and the store became filled with the loud roar of vacuums. Every. Where. We even tried going to the children's area. Mistake #2 came when I asked the manager why this was being done during store hours instead of after since it made it hard to enjoy being there. I was told they HAD to do it because of a carpet cleaning, and it ONLY happened twice a year. Okay. Maybe an apology for the inconvenience and/or closing the store an hour early would have been more thoughtful? Or maybe I could just get my books from Amazon and enjoy the peace and quiet of a park instead? Both will be around much longer than this bookstore chain. read more

I bought a nice Bible there for my son. When I got home, I learned he already had purchased a Bible. I don't live close to the store, so it was about 29 days before I got back to it, certain that I would be able to return the Bible for a refund. The person at the register, and then the store manager, explained to me that it was their policy not to give cash refunds after 14 days. They would only give me store credit. I pointed out that the Bible was in perfect condition and they would easily sell it again at it's original price. They still refused to give me a cash refund, insisting that I must take store credit. They said their 14 day policy exists because they sell a product that people can take home, use, and then return. I pointed out you could visually inspect the Bible to see that it had not been read, AND THAT IT'S A FRIGGIN BIBLE. Did she think that was my little scam? Reading the entire bible in a month and then returning it for my money back??? No use. How do these guys stay in business with that kind of robot-response customer service??? Amazon has a 30 day return policy, and all of my business going forward. read more

I like that they have a Starbucks - don't like that I can't use my Starbucks card there. I don't like that they always try to sell that darn member card to me. I buy like one book a year, people; I do not need to pay you for me to maybe save money. That being said... (I actually hate that phrase), it is a nice store with plenty of room. Pretty clean, but a standard Barnes & Noble. They have a fairly large selection of magazines, so if you're looking for a more obscure magazine they may have it here. The cafe is a Starbucks, if you're into that kind of thing. Compared to other Barnes & Noble stores I've been to its well organized (even the Children's Area). read more

A coworker and I called ahead for a movie - The Illusionist. They said they had it in DVD, Blu-ray, and a combo pack. They saved it for us. ^_^ The price was pretty good. About $8 or so for the combo pack. The store is like a normal B&N, filled to the brim with DIY books, religious texts, recipe books, comics, etc. I drifted over to Starbucks while my coworker looked around for " --- for Dummies" books and ordered a venti iced green tea latte with no ice and it was made perfectly. There wasn't a tip jar around, though...?? I was a bit miffed because I was standing around for a few minutes at the music station and Starbucks before someone noticed me (but reeeeally at Starbucks because the girl working the counter had her back turned doing something and the guy cleaning tables). I got over it soon enough, though. Fact: No in-store Starbucks accept Starbucks cards. There is not a single Barnes & Noble Starbucks that does, so don't get your hopes up. read more

I enjoy visiting Barnes and Noble, and I'm glad our area has one. It's my oasis. The cafe is very good but a bit pricey, so it's usually a treat to sit and enjoy things there. They sell unique gifts as well as books. I've purchased many of both. The staff is always polite and helpful. read more

I hang out here a lot and I love how they don't mind if you stand (or sit) in the aisle while reading. B&N understands that a bookstore is more than a store, it's also a place to hangout (probably why they also have a cafe there). My only criticism is that I wish they had more of them (as it stands I have to drive for close to an hour to get to my nearest B&N). read more

This is such a good place to go and buy and read books. Sometimes its a little noisy. When it's noisy you cant really read. I feel they should have sections to read. Its all open which I think causes the noise. But overall its such a good place to go and read. The employees are super nice and helpful. read more

My son ordered my wife's birthday gift through B & N. They had a terrible time finding it and when they did, the manager said it was part my fault because of the way it was ordered. My son made the order directly to the manager over the phone. He took no responsibility for not looking hard enough. I went to the Wyomissing, Reading, PA store today and as the cashier was ringing up my order she had trouble with the gift certificate I presented. She apparently entered it the wrong way and the register froze. She ended up restarting her register and after the wait she attempted to re-ring my transaction. Guess what? Now my card shows NO BALANCE. !!! I said Well, you know the card was used and that you have the money - couldn't you just cut me a new one or give me store credit? I came just for the book set I was purchasing - the last set. I drove 40 minutes to get there. Nothing they can do. I was told. I shou;ld try again tomorrow because it will take 24 hours to re-credit my card. Why couldn't we complete the sale since you already had my money? I am not coming back. If I ever get my money back I will re-gift the card and never have to be disappointed like this again. Never again. No reason for turning me away. read more
