Stopped by to get some work done around 3 on 3/24... guy working the cafe was very unpleasant. His energy gave off that he hates his job. He seemed stressed about getting other tasks done but annoyed by the customers. I was a sm at a corporate store and it's a shame to see the brand and experience be so bad, especially for one the only bookstore cafes in the area. Definitely not like it used to be. read more

Went here with my parents as part of our Vermont Vacation on August 28th 2023. Went here after going to a general store in Burlington, which was right next door to this place. Love actual bookstores, Barnes & Noble being one of them, as they have lots of books by both locally owned authors, and widely known authors such as steven king. I didn't buy anything, but spent an awful lot of time looking. This location also has a starbucks in which one can snack and read if they want to. They also sell vinyls, dvds, and cds, and found a few good movies and music that i would have brought. Even found a book that would have been cool to read. Store needs a bit more organizing via their genres. Overall, great stop if one loves entertainment and to read! would definitely go to a barnes and noble again, just not this one as we were just visiting Vermont. read more

0 stars. Had to put 1 or the app wouldn't let me post. We are on vacation in Vermont. I was excited to see they had a lot of books at this location that I couldn't get locally. We drove 45 minutes to get there and walked into utter disappointment. When we walked in, we found the escalator and elevator blocked off and no public restroom. We *could* have asked them to find us all the books, but they were literally lowering them down from the second floor in a basket with clothesline rope. Ridiculous. We wanted to browse, and not list off 20 something books to an employee. It's a missed opportunity for them; we would have spent a few hundred dollars. Terrible experience. So went into buy a book about traveling to Alaska. I usually go to Amazon but wanted it quicker. Plus it's tricky getting deliveries when you travel full time. Online it's advertised $23.92. Found it in store no problem. Took it to register. After ringing it up I'm told $31 and some odd cents. I'm like no it's says online $23.92. Guy says we don't price match. Dude its Barnes n Nobles website. Not another company. Well we can't honor it. What?? Okay so I bought it on Amazon even cheaper. No wonder you guys are going under. Shady! And who knew Barnes n Noble now sales used books? ***Update came back in Monday to give them one more shot before I ordered the book on Amazon. Guy that rung us up super friendly. When I showed him the lower price on Barnes & Noble website he said no problem and changed price. I didn't catch his name. Great customer service. This Barnes and Noble always has a great selection of pre-owned books at rock bottom prices. It's clean and has ample reading areas as well as a (more than) full service Starbucks with larger than norm food options (read: loads of desserts). Parking is ample and the location is well situated. The employees are friendly and overall selection is large. I deducted one star only because the layout of the store leaves something to be desired (placement of genres), but otherwise it's great. read more

What a treat to be able to stop in at a Barnes & Noble. This store is pretty large with two stories and a cafe. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cafe staff were also great. Today we picked up some tea and a tiramisu while waiting for our child to pick a few books. Overall a nice place to shop and conveniently located right off of the highway. read more

Just came here to say that the employees are so rude it's ridiculous, except for like 1 person who works the cafe. I've been coming here daily to do work, get out of my house, and because they're open until 9, but I'm probably not going to come back unless I *have* to. The other night, the down escalator was out of order and unless you're familiar with the layout of the building, you wouldn't know there's an elevator pretty much hidden in one corner. There were these two men who went upstairs and then they were trying to walk down the down escalator to get back downstairs, and this one employee literally stood from the bottom floor and proceeded to yell at them to use to elevator in the most irritable, disrespectful way possible. The two men clearly didn't understand what the employee was saying because I assumed they didn't speak English well given that they were speaking another language and the look of total confusion on their faces.... They paused and then continued to try to walk down, and the employee kept yelling at them and making this huge scene. I felt embarrassed for the men that they were being yelled at by the employee who didn't care enough or was just plain ignorant to the fact that there was obviously a communication issue. The men finally gave up trying to go down and walked in the direction the employee was waving his arm in, totally resigned. It was really painful to watch and totally inappropriately handled. Also, I usually park on the side of the building because there's never any spaces in the front. I leave at closing, and usually use the side exit to walk to my car because it's the most direct route. When I went to walk to my car tonight, however, this guy employee, who was wearing the biggest d-bag shirt that was unbuttoned way too far down, stood in front of the door and ordered me to go out the front with a huge attitude because the side door was locked...Seriously couldn't just turn the freaking deadbolt and unlock it for me so I could go out. I mean, it takes 5 seconds and clearly I'm going out that way for a reason. I had this very situation happen other nights as well and it's never been a problem for someone to just unlock the door. But nope. It wasn't even just that it was inconvenient, it was the way he said it in the rudest way possible, like I was the most annoying person in the world for thinking I could go out that exit. How dare I, right? But yeah, lets just make this woman walk around the building by herself at night/ in the dark in -6 degree weather because we can't simply unlock the deadbolt to let her out quickly... Oh and the real kicker, after I got to my car and was sitting in it about to leave, another employee lets someone out the side entrance I wanted to use. Needless to say, I'm extremely unimpressed. It was also really fun to walk inside one night and have this sketchy dude carrying a whole freaking bong, dump the nasty bong water all over the sidewalk while leaving his open duffel bag full of paraphernalia and reeking of weed just sitting completely open on the ground in the vestibule, and then come back in to sit with his girlfriend and all their crap. Lastly, the cafe can get extremely crowded, mostly with people doing work or reading because it's a book store after all, but whenever there's the occasional super loud person or someone who decides it's fine to FaceTime their friend just to chit chat and be oblivious to the fact that they're not the only person in the area, no one does anything. The employees catch an attitude and yell at people for no reason, but not for the overtly obnoxious crap. Not to mention, everything is crazy expensive. Time to find another place to do work. read more

They have a good selection of books. If you are in a pinch and need a book today, you can typically find it here. However, you will pay for waiting last minute. Usually finding it online somewhere will be cheaper but you have to wait for it to ship. I do enjoy the little coffee area. It is peaceful and a great place to sip, study, or read. Overall it's still a decent bookstore but know that you will typically pay a bit more. read more

I like Barnes & Noble. Big chain bookstores have their purpose just as indie bookstores do and this one serves its purpose. The children's section is nice and I often see kids in their reading and/or playing with the book related toys. They also have a pretty good selection of toys and with the closing of some of the area's kid stores, is actually one of the best places to pick up a gift for a kid. The size of the store is a huge plus. I like being able to wander and I like not having to trip over people to squeeze into an aisle to look at books. I like that I can look for a book online first and then have them put it aside for me. I like that there is a "Starbucks" in the store even though it is just a Starbucks-related cafe and not an actual Starbucks. One area where this store could greatly improve is the checkout process. They have a huge counter with many registers yet only one or two are ever open regardless of how many people are waiting. I also don't appreciate the interview process in which I have to partake every time I purchase something. I don't want to join the store. I don't want to donate money. I don't want to give you my email address. I don't want a Barnes and Noble credit card. Can you please just give me a badge I can show at checkout indicating that I've been asked these questions? read more

As a longtime employee and supporter of independent bookstores, it's hard for me to willingly go into chain bookstores like Borders or B&N. But we decided to check this one out today just to see what it was like. "Also," I told myself, "the people who work here love books as much as indie bookstore employees do, and are probably just as nice." [FOREBODING CRASH OF THUNDER] They have a used book section on their first floor. There doesn't seem to be much discretion in their buying choices, so it's a lot of old, outdated, irrelevant stuff with some gems sprinkled in. The used fiction section was 90% titles from 2001 or earlier with a couple of slightly more recent books. Lots of discounted bestsellers and sale/remainders for decent prices. A lot of floor space is devoted to their e-reader demo displays and sales posters. They have a very small gift section with stationery, candles, etc. and a pretty wide selection of magazines and newspapers. (I noticed that they marked up their New York Times with a $3 price sticker over what I know is $2.50 on the cover.) My boyfriend chose a used Clive Cussler and we got in line. The lone cashier was trying her darnedest to get her customer to sign up for their rewards program, with four or five people waiting in line. Only after several minutes of the customer asking questions, resisting signup, and finishing the transaction did she call for a backup cashier. The second cashier opened up his register and waved to the next person in line, then - as the next person was walking over to him - turned to answer a question from a dude who had just walked up to the counter. Everyone in line grumbled. Then, when my boyfriend's turn came and he presented his used Cussler for purchase, the cashier chuckled and said, "Wow, you have no shame, huh?" SERIOUSLY? If I can spend 3 1/2 years at my indie bookstore not making a scathing comment every time someone bought Fifty Shades of Grey or Twilight, surely you can exercise some self-control and show the barest minimum of politeness too? I guess not. We paid and left in a hurry, and will henceforth only ever shop at Crow or Phoenix. I should have known better. read more

Need a book? Come to B&N! The location of this place is pretty nice! Across from the mall in South Burlington? that's pretty central to most of VT. Easy access for parking and from the bus if you don't have a car. The store front is HUGE! Sections are huge and they also offer a good size clearance room! They offer computers and staff to help you look for certain titles. The service here is just good. Simple as that, as it should be. Check out is easy and the employees get you out quickly. If they don't have a certain book that your looking for they will always offer to order for you! Free shipping to the store. This is pretty standard is most book stores. The music and DVD section is a good size too. Just over priced! For music and movies just go to Best Buy or another local store. The Cafe is nice too. Starbucks coffee shop...So its what you would expect! Pricey but good. Quick service and nice for a quick coffee or snack! Over all anytime I have gone here I have enjoyed shopping here. They make it easy and fun! Sometimes we spend WAAY more time in this store then we thought we would! Great 4/5! We continue to return! read more

We decided to hang out here for a while before our flight home to South Carolina. My goodness, what a great store ... and great staff. We had several good laughs with the team making our coffee and snacks. It's always nice to see people who are obviously enjoying their work. It was also fun to wander this huge store. Not a bad place for browsing, it's two-level with plenty of windows for a relaxing shopping environment. The magazine section could use a bit more space. I LOVE the used book section. I typically head back there first. Be prepared to deal with the heavy-handed selling display for the new Nook ebook reader. They have used about half of the first floor to show these things. I kind of miss all of the great travel and computer shelving they sacrificed when they did this. Hopefully it's temporary for the holidays. They will special order just about anything and I've been able to get books shipped to store within a couple of days tops. Staff is typically helpful and friendly but don't expect IMMEDIATE attention as they all seem wicked busy all the time. read more

I love this place. Pretty good DVD selection, bright welcoming space. Cafe gives 10% discount to B&N members. The membership has almost paid for itself in two trips. We live out in the country and bandwidth is scarce, so it's nice to have a source for movies. read more

This Barnes & Noble is placed in an extremely convenient spot, what with Small Dog Electronics and a camera shop right on the other end of the lot- and a mall down the street. Employee wise, they are VERY helpful, and can direct you to anything you're looking for. And if by chance that they don't have the book/CD/DVD you're looking for, they will order it for you and it will be ready for pick up anytime between 2 and 10 days. (Depending, of course.) They are very well stocked, so it's very, very likely that any sort of book, magazine, CD, DVD or manga you're looking for will be there. read more

Will not be returning. My son is two and fell in love with a very obviously handles and loved Cars book...with push buttons and sounds..... I asked the clerk in the children's department if they had any more since this copy was very worn, she looked for me and found they did not. She suggested I ask for a ten percent discount at the register. First of all ten percent....uhhhh...ya. I was told no, they could order me a new one. Not a concept my two year old was up to understanding. So I left with a used condition book that I paid the full 20.00 for. It is in worse shape than most of the books I have bought from yard sales for a dollar.....but expecting a two year old to want to wait and have it shipped?? Ya right. Customer service = minus! All I asked the manager to do was look up a magazine to see if they had it in the store. I knew the name of the company but not the exact title,it was a special on knitted toys, she rudely responded that she needed the exact title to look it up. Which I knew wasn't true, I've had workers on the floor look titles up for me in the past. My partner and I brought in a sandwich to eat before we browsed for books and were met with a loud woman who told us we couldn't bring outside food. It was understandable, however the woman was loud and rude in her delivery. I ordered a cupcake later after buying a few books and was met with mean looks. I don't think I'll be coming here again out of feeling uncomfortable in a hostile place. I have been in this location before and had never felt this way. Rotten Customer Service Don't sell books back to Barnes & Noble unless you READ THE STUPID DISCLAIMER that will only allow you to use your money memo ONLY ON THE DAY they purchased your books. This never used to be the case, as I have sold back books to them before and there was never such a ridiculously narrow window of time to use the credit. They absolutely refused to give me the credit, so basically I DONATED those books to them and they made quite a good profit. I am pissed off at their lack of customer service and told them I would shop at amazon.com from now on...and I buy a lot of books. I guess they think they are too big to fail...remember Borders?! read more

I can never step foot in this establishment again. I was hired to work here and was excited to start my new job to help me get through school but I was treated with more disrespect than I have ever experienced in the workplace. I was hired to work in the Starbucks onsite, and on my first day of training I was left alone for TWO HOURS. I have never worked with food before, so I didn't know how to make anything. People would come up to the counter and ask for complicated frappucinos and I would look them dead in the eye and say, "I'm sorry, this is my first day and they haven't taught me how to make anything. Your choices are coffee, tea, or anything from the food case". I would get an uncomfortable laugh and sometimes even a sympathetic apology, but I was furious. I was also scheduled to work until 9pm but kept me until 11, without first asking me if I was okay with overtime, which I'm pretty sure is illegal. I left the store that night frustrated and cried in my car for half an hour before pulling out of the parking lot to go home. This was my first and last shift at Barnes & Noble Starbucks. When I went in the next day to quit, the employers tried arguing with me, as if they had any say in whether I was quitting or not because at the end of the day I could just not show up and they can't do anything about it. They told me to come in tomorrow to talk with the HR rep about everything, but instead I called because I honestly felt like they didn't deserve my time and energy. This HR rep started yelling at me over the phone, as if that's an effective strategy to get an angry employee to stay. I simply told her I wouldn't be in for any of my scheduled shifts, and hung up. When I received my paycheck for that one shift in the mail, it was expired. Thank you for your time, I hate it here. read more

I didn't go to the starbucks so it doesn't apply but it was larger than the one in my hometown. I was really happy with the huge selection of used books on history/politics in the back. Let's just say I didn't leave empty ended, but had to put down a few. The books put in the front were great and I loved how much choice there was in every category. My book rang up at $38. When I presented the associate with the $25 online B&N price her response was "what are you asking me?" Seriously? Based on my reading online it is quite clear that this is has been an issue for this chain for years. Learn a lesson from Staples; honor the nationally advertised price.
