Kernville was wall-to-wall people everyone enjoying the Mountains, sunshine, Kern, river, and America's 250th birthday. James store was busy as might be expected on the big holiday weekend. I headed to the meat department too many choices. I decided on 2 habanero and 2 black pepper chicken kebabs to barbecue and a 6 pack of carnation drumsticks for dessert. The store looked great decorated and fully stocked they were ready for 4 July holiday. Shelly my cashier was super, all check stands were open very little waiting. Our barbecued kebabs Saturday night were delicious seasoned perfect and the marinade just right. The drumsticks hit the spot as well. Happy birthday America

I am a new resident, trying to save money to fix a leaky faucet. (Plus I recently found out how…read moreslow yet pricey professional house calls are in the KRV.) So while i watched numerous YouTubes and got some condescending "help" from chain hardware employees in the area, my bathtub dribble grew into a stream. Not just wasteful but getting scary $$. I was desperate! So i tried Archie's to try to find the right kind of washer and tools. The guys on the floor sent me to Jill. She not only coached me and let me borrow tools, she CAME TO MY HOUSE and returned TWICE to swap out tools and the washers and fixed it herself. She knows her stuff and cheerfully gives it away! A 21st century miracle!!!! Please know that this is NOT a service you can demand at Archie's; Jill offers her skills at HER discretion - she told me that she likes to help out other women because she understands how tough it can be for gals in the DIY/home repair field. Nevertheless I am now on Team Jill and a loyal fan forever. And Archie's is pretty high on my list, too! Very community based, broad inventory and staffed at least one amazing woman who knows her stuff and is generous and compassionate to desperate dummies! Thank you!!

Well folks, turns out it's a "census-designated place" (not even a town, how about that!!) near Lake Isabella with a population of just 1956, as of the 2010 Census. If you're still lost, it's approximately 32 miles (That's ALL it was?) east-northeast of Bakersfield, up in the mountains. Now I'm sure you are asking "what were you doing there?" Yes I was wondering the same thing. LOL I went to look at (and buy) a vintage washing machine and this is where it was... out in the boonies! Also known as Kirkham's Hardware these days,…read moreDwayne and Sandy Kirkham owned and built this place for decades while also serving the local community tirelessly through Search and Rescue and the Sheriffs Department. Dwayne was always loved by all the high school kids as he served for years as the Sheriff Officer for the high school football games and other events. Dwayne was named Reserve Officer of the Year too many times to count, volunteering as many as 800 hours a year serving the community. He was also known for opening the store for spare parts when somebody would call during off hours and for letting customers just take small items like nuts and bolts rather than bothering with colleting a few cents per item. Dwayne and Sandy recently sold the store to the current owners but the Kirkham name lives on as the brand for the store. Good decision new owners! What a great place and testament to good old fashion values and service to community.

It really speaks volumes about the place, because in actuality nobody really knows where Bodfish is, or has even heard of it. The store as a drive-thru (something I've never seen at a convenience store, but is kind of genius), and the two employees working there were super nice.

If for some reason you require something special or out of the ordinary, they will work with you to draw up a set of plans and order it for you while you're there. These guys know this business well. The delivery and scheduling process was handled by Jose. Always with a positive attitude, he was very persistent in finding a time slot that worked well for both me and his many teams of installers. It was easy and worked out well. He called me the next day to follow up and see how things were going. What an asset to the business. The Installation was like clockwork. A team led by Josh and Chris showed up on-time and proceeded to scope things out before unloading the shed. As with many jobs of this scope, nothing ever goes perfect and we encountered a few minor hiccups. Not to worry, this team handled everything in stride with safety minded professionalism and in a timely manner. They did whatever it took to get the job done and make this a clean install. Watching them was really fun as these young men used their tools and experience to unload the unit and move it into place perfectly. While we were finishing things up, a Space X rocket could be seen in the night sky overhead releasing a slew of satellites! What a great way to wrap things up! A picture perfect ending to a Great Job! From start to finish, this was an exceptionally positive experience for us. A great product for a fair price and an excellent install.
