Stopped here to buy ice. Their ice freezer was well stocked with bags large and small. The small was 7 lbs and $3.99 per bag. The store had a coffee/deli area were you can enjoy a cup indoors. Mt Mesa Market is a local market. It seemed everyone knew everyone. The grocers were greeting people by first name. I read some reviews, seemed legit. Nothing to be worried about. I was visiting a friend whom just moved here from Los Angeles county. Their grandmother moved her recently. We got a large pepperoni, sausage, and onion. This pizza is phenomenal. Seriously one of the best I had. And that includes all over LA, SD, and OC. Loved the vibe. The customer service was friendly too. I got some small snacks. Typically we get charged $.10 a bag in LA/OC county, I didn't really want them to waste a bag but the cashier was so nice and friendly she insisted. The people that work in the sandwich/ meat counter touch raw hamburger meat, and then continue to make sandwiches without washing their hands, very unsanitary/ and against health codes , I will be calling code in forcement. First time driving through this mountain town and decided to stop into this market that's a block from our motel. It's a small, well-stocked market. We were greeted warmly as we entered and made our way to the deli. The guy working the deli was super adorable, helpful and friendly. He helped us pick out a couple of deli sandwiches. My roast beef sandwich turned out to be one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The meat was flavorful, the bread was soft and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. Perfect. There is a couple of older female employees that have very bad attitudes. The one has worked there for a long time so I don't see them getting rid of her anytime soon. The prices are super high, the meat looks old and dried out, and there is a long wait if you want something from the deli. After thirty minutes of waiting the female employee was making me a sandwich, some one walk up and asked her to get them some ground beef. She stopped making my sandwich, dug her bare hand into the raw ground beef, and without washing her hands proceeded to finish making my sandwich. It took and hour from getting there, to having my food in hand. read more

We stopped here for lunch and were really impressed by the sandwiches. I am glad I got the small smoked turkey sandwich. I still couldn't eat it all. I think the large is over a foot long. The bread was delicious and the employees were friendly. We were happy we stopped there. read more

The only real full-service market that's family-operated in this locally unincorporated town/bedroom community. Grocer/manager Jim Wyly has made efforts to expand and improve existing footprint of the market over the past couple of decades. Market entrance originally fronted Mtn. Mesa Blvd. and Hwy 178 with limited parking spots out front. Expanded parking lot and new store entrance on the east end of building now faces McCray Road and the Shell convenience store and Mtn. I've been visiting the Mt Mesa Market since I was a child and though I now live out of state, i stop by at least once every time I come home. The sole reason for this is their killer pastrami sandwiches! they're the best pastrami I've ever had and the price and size are amazing! its only $12 for a generous foot-long (not subway foot-long) sandwich with a soft and chewy bread-roll. We love this market and the staff. It is family owned and run, and we get excellent service. The meat department is the best. We buy all of our meat from them, and order our Thanksgiving Prime Rib all seasoned up. Mt. Mesa Market's sliced deli meats are also excellent and are a staple in our refrigerator. We buy deli sandwiches, pizza and baked chicken from there. As well, we purchase our vegetables, ice cream, bread, chips, and much more. We like to support our local market so that we have a local market. Vons is only our backup plan when Mt. Mesa Market doesn't have something we want. read more
