Visitation Rights: I've been to this park many times. It has been my home court when I play pickleball after work. Location/Parking: Located on McPherrin Ave. between Harding and W. Newmark. Parking can be found along McPherrin or other surrounding streets if you can't find parking. Entertainment: The city usually hosts a decent amount of festivities for the community at this park. Current Events: From May 7 - 10, they're celebrating cinco de mayo (5/7/2026 :5pm to 10pm and Monterey Parks birthday (5/7/2026 to 5/10/2026). Barnes Park Offerings: 1) Pickleball Courts (6) /Tennis (1): 2 month's ago they repaved and installed permanent pickleball nets. There's only one tennis court now... haha Pickleball is taking over! Pickleball courts are closed starting 5/4/2026 to 5/12/2026. Will reopen on 5/13/2026. 2) Baseball/Softball Field 3) Community Center 4) Gymnasium: Indoor basketball and pickleball courts (7pm - 10pm) 5) Restrooms: They're available. Not really clean though. 6) Teqball table: Don't see people use this table to play. I guess I'll watch this on youtube for now. Hopefully, one day.... I'll be able to see this sport in real life. A nice city park nestled in a cozy Monterey Park neighborhood. Although I don't usually make it a point to visit regularly, I do visit at least annually when I volunteer at the Cherry Blossom Festival. It has always been a well-maintained park with plenty of offerings, although the pool is currently closed. Plenty of parking in their lot (on the south side) or surrounding streets although parking can get tough when there are major events. read more

Big plus, they have 6 dedicated pickleball courts, which is clutch since most parks still make you share with tennis. The courts are well-maintained and the runs can get pretty competitive depending on the time of day. That said, it gets packed. Like, expect to wait during peak hours, especially evenings and weekends. If you're trying to get consistent games in, coming earlier in the day is the move. Parking is mostly street parking, so you might have to do a lap or two when it's busy, but it's manageable. I never thought I'd be reviewing a park on Yelp, but here we are. I've recently started coming here for the pickleball courts, and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by how nice this park is. There's dedicated parking, and the space is always lively with people actually using it, which is exactly what a neighborhood park should be for. That said, parking can fill up pretty quickly. I did knock off one star because it feels like some people tend to linger in the spots around the park a bit longer than necessary (possibly vehicular residents?), which can make finding parking a challenge during busy hours. The park itself has a great community vibe. There's a gazebo where I've seen older adults practicing choreographed dances and hosting small celebrations. Kids are often running around the playground, and it's nice to see families enjoying the space. The bathrooms are decent, clean and stocked with toilet paper, which is always a win for a public park. The pickleball and tennis courts look fairly new and well-maintained. There's also plenty of lighting throughout the park at night, which I really appreciate. It feels safe and welcoming, even in the evenings. Overall, it's a solid 4-star park for me. Clean, active, well-lit, and a great place to get some games in. read more

Overall, I love the park's central location and the hills allow for a decent cardio section. This is a popular spot for pickleball/ tennis and has lunch benches as well. There is also a seasonal farmers market on Thursdays as well. I usually would come here just for a cardio workout. While my preference as a primarily solo-runner/ walker is usually Almansor Park, the area is overall safe. I have run into a time when someone kept driving around and following me, but most days I am unbothered during my daily exercises. read more

Outdoor area: The outdoor area is nice. They have a few tables. The swing needs to be higher or maybe one lower set of swings and one higher up set of swings would be nice. The walk trail is nice, but too small in my opinion. The walking trail should be longer. Dirty walking trail: It is also dirty in this park due to people walking their dogs! Please bring your own dog poop bags and clean your dogs pee! The park needs to wash the floors of this park. It is not the parks fault, but the people bringing their dogs here to poop! read more

Fun, safe and accessible park for littles. I love that it's made for younger kids and had a fair amount of shade. This playground is geared toward younger children, which is great because so many playgrounds aren't. read more

I arrived at the park around 11:00 and the Fire Department #61 had all of their trucks in the street and had an event going at their station. Their station is located on the Northwest corner of the park. They had lots of stuff for the children. I had went here for the Vietnamese festival, I had asked several people about the festival, but nobody seemed to know about it, or they didn't understand me. I went walking to the other side of the park and the Police Department is there along with other city offices. From a distance I could see something happening on the South side of the park. There were several canopies up, but only a few of them had really great tasting food. The only thing is who ever was running the food area didn't know what they were doing. They should have had 2 to 3 people outside of the booth area taking the orders and another 5 or 6 people in the booth preparing the food. There were over seventy people in line waiting read more

There's playgrounds, a baseball field, tennis and pickleball courts, an outdoor gym, picnic tables, grills, a ping pong table, and a large field where there's usually some sort of recreational sport happening. It's very well maintained, well lit, and feels safe. I love stopping by to walk my dog and enjoy the fresh air. They have doggy bags too in case you forget. I recently signed up for a pickleball tournament to help fundraise money for a special cause at a high school. Well, I've never played pickleball in the past, but I did play tennis in high school, ping pong at home, and badminton in college... do you see a trend here... all net sports LOL. Anyway, my co-worker was kind to lend me his spare pickleball set. He recommended Barnes Park where I can learn and practice pickleball. Thank you my friend! I came here this past weekend and got a chance to learn pickleball, got some hits in, and played my very 1st game. My tennis arm did come in handy LOL. I just need to get more acquainted with the rules. I have to say, pickleball is a combination of tennis, ping pong, and badminton... it's right up my alley! They say pickleball is an old people sport... well, I say it's an all people sport regardless of age. Schools should incorporate pickleball in their sports itinerary. I met some really nice people at the courts who are great pickleball players. What a fun and exciting morning! I will definitely be back for more pickleball play. And what an amazing park! They have a huge softball field, tennis/pickleball courts, swimming pool, children's playground, picnic area, library and city hall within the same vicinity, and much more. There are street parking along side the softball field and tennis/pickleball courts. By the way, the pickleball nets belong to the city... I was informed they are provided in the morning (not sure what time) up to 2:00 PM on the weekends and then removed afterwards. Hence, you may want to bring your own nets during non-provided times. I've been a long-time San Gabriel Valley (SGV) non-resident visitor for over 40+ years and this is my very 1st time visiting this park. Yeah, I visit SGV primarily for the foods and not so much for the parks if at all LOL. Now I know where I can picnic when I'm in SGV. Very nice community park in Monterey Park indeed! read more

The playground rules still apply as adults. Barnes Park is a public green space that measures approximately 17 acres, and is located at the heart of Monterey Park. It seems this park was newly remodeled and upgraded. This park features a community center, basketball gym, amphitheater/memorial bowl, sheltered picnic pavilion, Olympic size pool, lighted softball field, tennis courts, and children's play area. Plenty of parking spot. Furthermore, this park has close proximity to the local police department and the Boys and Girls club. Most park goers were kids, adults and young families. Basically it's quite diverse and multicultural. I dig it. There were no homeless person lurking around when I visited so that's bloody great. Overall, this is a great park with excellent features. DO NOT RESERVE OR PAY TO HAVE PARTIES HERE!!!!! My sister in law had a party she reserved and paid for only to have older Asian women intrude and rudely disrupt our party. I understand this is a public park but be respectful of others parties. These ladies were circling around each of our tables taking our unfinished water bottles and drinks and recycling them without asking and then kept pestering us to give our drinks when we were done they also tried to take our decorations and asked us for food.... They even took our used plates, washed them and took them. Please watch out for these ladies they think it's funny and it's really disrespectful. I told them many times to leave and they did not. This park is full of homeless ppl hanging around! Don't waste ur time planning a party here read more

Even though this park is very small, there's a huge sense of community here. It's very close to Garvey Ave. and surrounding the park, there's Boys and Girls Club, a library, city hall, police station, and the fire department. I would call this park a part of the heart of MPK. They host a lot of events here like the farmers market every Thursday, festivals, and concerts. Everyday, there's always bunch of ppl of all ages taking their daily walks. There's old ppl doing tai chu together in the mornings or dancing in the evenings. It's a smol, but great community park. read more

This park is vibrant at nighttime as we came here to celebrate a buddies birthday with an apple pie. People were walking and talking and kids were playing and a bunch of noise was heard from all different directions. The park was still lit and I felt pretty safe in my huddle with friends. Not sure if there is a spray but mosquitoes were sucking on my blood while conversation broke out and laughter ensued with a birthday song and apple pie being sliced and served. Overall the park is cool and there has been many events at this park that I've attended. You have tennis, basketball courts, baseball, swimming and an amphitheater. I haven't been to this park for years, since I worked at Boys and Girls Club way back when. I came back since there was walk up COVID testing and was reminded of how great of a park this is. Nice park with many tables and a playground for kids to play on. There are birthday parties hosted here almost every weekend, and they usually reserve in advance. I have also seen storytime/classes hosted here, too. They have a public sink for guests to use. During special holidays like Easter, they have an Easter egg hunt for kids and a winter festival during Christmas. Events are free and open to the public, so it gets very lively. The playground equipment is well maintained and many families bring their children to come and play. They have multiple benches for adults to sit on. Seniors come to do tai chi, sing, and dance. The library, police station, and city hall are right next to the park so it is pretty safe for all ages. Definitely would come back! read more

My favorite park of all of Monterey Park! We rented out 2 units for our baby's first bday party. Each unit has 5 tables each and there's a total of 5 units. Each unit has its own countertop with a sink and electric outlets. You have to reserve a unit ahead of time (online). It's $110 for residents and $120 for non residents (as of august 2024). A worker for the city will come at the time of your reservation to turn on the water for your sink and outlets. The city will also put "reserve" signs on the tables you've reserved so no one will take your spot! Lots of space for people to stand and kids to run around. You are allowed to have a caterer there. I would suggest bringing a standing fan to keep the flies away if you're having food. Perfect spot for a summer party with lots of shade and wind coming through. Big playground for kids and this park is right next to city hall/police station. The only downside I have is that the pool is permanently closed! read more

I grew up around here and used to frequent this park as a teenager. At the time, I took it for granted. As I've gotten older, I really appreciate this park so much more. It's always active with so many people using it in different ways. From baseball games, running and swimming, playground laughter, to Tai Chi and even Chinese karaoke nights! There is also a beautiful lookout point from the top of the hill with views of the San Gabriel mountains and the beautiful hills that surround Monterey Park. Really, really a gem. read more

I am here twice a week. I like how safe it feels, here. It is right next to a police station, and it is nice and open. They have several cool things here-- a pool for those hot summer days, a baseball/ soccer field, a track to run/ walk on. Every few months they have a free weekend festival, usually coinciding with a holiday. There are a lot of dogs here, and a lot of bugs later at night, so if you are prone to getting stung, bring your insect repellent. read more

I've attended the cherry blossom festival here before, it was good. The park is nice and pretty big, the playground equipment is in pretty good condition, and the kids have attended two birthday parties here. We've also been to a baby shower here, so it's nice because there's a lot of covered patio and concrete picnic tables. Kids have attended toddler classes here in the past, and the building's pretty old and small, but the program itself was solid. read more

Been here for the Cherry blossom festival and Chinese New Year festivities and Cinco De Mayo celebrations, so you can say this park is very versatile. There is a spacious outdoor pool that opens to the public, and tennis courts. Bathrooms need some work (and soap). This park is very nostalgic to me because I used to go here a lot when I was a kid. Monterey Park's City Hall and police center is right next door so I feel quite safe when I visit here. This is a great place to bring my toddler on a weekend morning. This place is clean with one of the more advanced playground structures in the area. Cute little park in the city of MP. Hubby's son plays basketball there, so we go watch him in support. It's got the community center right next to it, which seems to offer lots and lots of activities. I noticed there are all kinds of things going on there, and very diverse (OK, it's Monterey Park, I'm thinking Cherry Blossom festival). People seem to be mellow - both staff and residents utilizing it. Great programs for the youth. Seems to have everything there a person or residing resident could want. Basketball programs are good. I can imagine so are the other programs/activities they have. Kids keeping busy and smiles, it's a good place to be! Parking galore all around. I also give it a good rating for a place to walk. Park is getting better and better. I came here often in the past to play tennis (still do, just not as often). It does get crowded so keep in mind that people are waiting and do not hog the courts! They also have a swimming pool and an indoor basketball court that I have never played in since it always seems closed. Every time I come I see people playing softball or people training near the police station. This is also the location for the MPK Night Market which is not a bad venue size for the city! I grew up in Monterey Park and this park was my go to place to play around when I was younger. They have many more things than other park such as tennis courts, baseball, jungle gym, pool, basketball gym, an amphitheater, area with tables and bbq grills, a path to run/walk around the baseball field. Also its right next to the Monterey's Park City Hall. Generally people are really nice, sometimes we hit the tennis ball over and the person thats nearby would run and throw it over for us! But most importantly, theres 3 pokestops in front of City Hall that you can hit just by standing in one spot and theres constantly lures being placed. Lotta people around bring a chair! Its well patrol by the police. I had an encounter the other day and he was like "Just doing some rounds making sure everyone's okay, did you guys catch any good pokemon? I have lived near this park for over 20 yrs and in the last few years there are more homeless in the park and more inconsiderate people who play very loud karaoke and music. Also be very careful crossing the street , more drivers rush through the intersection not paying attention to you if you in the crosswalk,many times I've seen close calls and recently can very close to getting hit with my granddaughter in her stoller. read more
