As I was searching up info on Crystal Caves for a similarly named national park, I happened upon…read morethis one. The day I paid a visit it had just rained a bit in the afternoon then cleared out for the rest of the evening. Up above this hillcrest on any given day I suspect would be ideal for watching the sunset or perhaps flying a kite. There was a consistent light breeze which felt refreshing, free from the congested traffic down below. Among the offerings include a baseball field, a modern jungle gym, basketball courts, and tennis courts. Specifically, tennis takes priority over pickleball. Further up the hill there's a small Japanese garden with a gazebo which while a bit worn out has a lot of charm. Street parking was plentiful and it never got really crowded. One thing I noticed was that my mobile network became somewhat spotty, but 'tis a minor inconvenience. If I'm free, I'd love to visit more often.

Parking can be found along McPherrin or other surrounding streets if you can't find parking. Entertainment: The city usually hosts a decent amount of festivities for the community at this park. Current Events: From May 7 - 10, they're celebrating cinco de mayo (5/7/2026 :5pm to 10pm and Monterey Parks birthday (5/7/2026 to 5/10/2026). Barnes Park Offerings: 1) Pickleball Courts (6) /Tennis (1): 2 month's ago they repaved and installed permanent pickleball nets. There's only one tennis court now... haha Pickleball is taking over! Pickleball courts are closed starting 5/4/2026 to 5/12/2026. Will reopen on 5/13/2026. 2) Baseball/Softball Field 3) Community Center 4) Gymnasium: Indoor basketball and pickleball courts (7pm - 10pm) 5) Restrooms: They're available. Not really clean though. 6) Teqball table: Don't see people use this table to play. I guess I'll watch this on youtube for now. Hopefully, one day.... I'll be able to see this sport in real life. Barnes For Thought: Overall, it's a nice park. Pretty cool that they had enough funding to install permanent pickleball courts. Perhaps the next thing they can fix up is the restrooms.

It has always been a well-maintained park with plenty of offerings, although the pool is currently closed. Plenty of parking in their lot (on the south side) or surrounding streets although parking can get tough when there are major events.

It's got that whole sloped setup, so you can climb up, pretend you're earning your post-snack calories, and then chill at the top like you've conquered something. The view's nice, especially if you're holding a boba or street tacos like a true Monterey Park foodie!! At night though? That's when it redeems itself. The lights come on, everything glows, and suddenly it's giving romantic picnic energ even if the waterfall is still ghosting you.

More of, we live in the neighborhood and are so lucky to have this park, type of spot. No playground or even a lot of grass to frolic on. There is parking though if you do want to venture for a little scenic outdoor dining like I did. That being said, it's gorgeous! I could see this being a great spot to take photos or just enjoy a book on one of the benches. There are also some stairs so you could get some steps in if you took a few loops around. GRP features two lighted baseball fields, picnic facilities, restrooms, lighted tennis/pickleball courts, children's playground, a community room, museum and observatory and measures approximately 18 acres. Quite huge park, but you wouldn't know it from first glance. Very clean and well kept. Two parking lots are available. East side of the park on Orange Ave is where you'll find the picnic shelters, larger playground, community room, historical museum, basketball courts and observatory. West side of the park on Alhambra Ave is closer to the smaller playground and larger baseball diamond. As for the 1 full tennis and 1 full tennis + 4 pickleball shared courts, they are located on Orange Ave near the intersection of Orange Ave and Metro Dr. If you're coming from the north on Orange Ave, drive past the entrance of the park and go up the hill just a bit. The courts will be on your right. Very small parking lot in front of the courts. Street parking is also available. Lighted courts are first come first serve. For pickleball, permanent lines are available, but you'll have to bring your own net (BYON). If you plan to bring food/drinks, be careful of ants. They will find them LOL. Our work group had so much fun. We met some new pickleballer friends as well. Definitely a great place to play some amazing pickleball. Thank you GRP!

Makes you feel like you are in prison with the steel toilets. 5/5 Likelihood to Return I think we will add this to the park rotation when we are in the area. This time there's seals, a boat, dolphins, octopus, snail, and sea star. The downside is sometimes the slides may have been used as a restroom so you can smell it and might need to avoid those slides. They do have a restroom which is a smelly and dirty but useable. Other than that, great park with sand! So be careful!

This park is a great gathering and refresh place for the community of San Gabriel for leisure exercise nature walks for children and adults alike. There is a couple of playgrounds located inside Vincent Lugo Park, one of which is La Laguna playground with huge animal shaped installments for children to play & explore and a regular playground with swings & climbing/jungle gyms. For adults, there are outdoor exercise equipment, which I saw are located in two separate places.. There are more nooks & crannies for me to explore that I may find in my next visit. Picnic tables are found some shaded some not, bbq grills, too. Additionally, there are covered tables and chairs as well for the community to hold parties or any kind of celebration. Walking paths are available, both cement & ground (clay-like). I noticed that there were a few sets of people doing tai chi-a few of them brought their music to coordinate their movements. It seems like small park tucked away, almost hidden. It's like a nature trail for me. I figure I could cut across the Alhambra Wash path to walk to it next time. Restrooms available, ample parking spaces. Lots of trees, greens. I love this "discovery"

Date: March 3, 2025…read more Stumbled upon this super cute park while attending a Yelp event close by! It was nothing like I pictured because all the photos are from years ago! It's newly remodeled into a castle themed playground with wood chips instead of sand. They have three different picnic tables right above, two smaller ones and one big main one. Restrooms are right at the end of the playground and was fairly clean. Love that there is a HUGE grass space and overall very clean area. They have additional picnic tables as well by the beginning of the playground. Parking wise - the address leads you to the top parking (1/3) but the playground is actually at the bottom (smaller lot). The kiddos really enjoyed this park and love that it's gated. Perfectly sized with a restroom right there is so convenient, especially for a mom of multiples out by herself. So glad to have found this park!!

Very well maintained. Grass was very green. Trees were standing tall and proud offering wonderful shade. Flowers were gorgeous! Lots of people with their family and friends plus their furry friends spending a beautiful and sunny weekend at this park. Plenty of benches for parties and all. Children's playground is available. Libary of Books located at the front of the park. Great place to take a comfortable and relaxing stroll in the early morning or evening when it's cooler. Love to be back for more yoga and nice walks! Street parking is available, but may be limited when there are a lot of people. Come here early if possible.
