The atmosphere and location are the best things about this place. Beautiful inside and out, like your favorite sister. The food was three stars. I got the fish board and while many of the flavors went together, the textures were off (soft bread and soft fish = mushy mouthfeel). Stopped in for dinner on a chilly night. We sat in the courtyard which was covered and somewhat warmer than out front. Our server was friendly and explained the menu to us. 6/27/24 - we ate here out first night. There are many places to eat almond the water under the umbrellas the total cost was about $120 US dollars. We ordered calamari which was overcooked, the rest of the meals were ok. I liked the meat lasagna. The drinks were very good. We avoided the entire area after this due to the high cost of the food. I'd been traveling for weeks when I randomly chose a restaurant on the quay in Nyhavn; ordered the seafood pasta and a glass of Pouilly-Fuissé, and it was the most delicious meal I'd had in weeks. Don't know how the Danes do it, but they seem to have reinvented cooking, and the flavors were quite off the chart. I also found the servers in general friendly. Long story short: Barock has wonderful food but horrible service. It's apparent that Barock favors the locals more than the tourists- many of the those who were not native were given terrible service. It's truly a shame because the food is wonderful. Seating is as you please- a waiter came to us nearly 15 minutes later, after we clearly saw him standing around twiddling his thumbs. Not good. The food was fresh and delicious. We sampled the salmon, herring, chicken salad, and assorted vegetables. While we were upset about the slow and nonexistent service, the food made up for some of it. It was nice that we were at least given quality food despite terrible service. If you are visiting Copenhagen I would consider somewhere else- the location is pretty and the food is good, but in the end, it's not worth the terrible service. read more

BEST DINING EXPERIENCE SO FAR IN COPENHAGEN ! Up until we ate at this restaurant, we were pretty disappointed with dining in this bustling city. We happened to find this hidden gem while looking for a quiet place off the beaten path. You can find it on the side street off of Nyhavn ( the extremely busy street by the canal) . The atmosphere was perfect after a tiring day of walking. Our server Jawad, is the FIRST server we have encountered in Copenhagen with any personality. He actually took the time to visit with us and kept things lighthearted. We shared a cheeseburger and frys and it was more than enough food. There are a few tables outside, but we ate inside. I was worried that it would be a tourist trap as some have already reviewed however we did not find it that way! Very pleasantly surprised. We had Christmas dinner there and we sat up upstairs. We ordered both the 3 course Christmas dinner and also dishes off the a la carte menu. The calamari and burrata were fantastic!! So fresh and delicious. The Christmas dinner with a smoked salmon soup starter and then roast pork and duck with red cabbage were excellent. The lobster soup had very nice flavor but no sign of any lobster meat, just so you know. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that the serve is quite slow so if you are in a hurry don't eat here and the server although very nice and professional forgot some things and had to be reminded. read more

For being a bit more on the pricier side and on the water this place was extremely mediocre. The fish and chips I don't recommend. It felt like frozen fish that you could heat up in a microwave. Compared to the other places I've tried fish and chips here in Copenhagen this place takes last place. My friends had lunch plates these also said mediocre and we expected a better food taste and quality for the price. Also my friend's plate came with bread and the butter given was open and USED. We had a 20 minute wait until the next boat cruise left and they told us we could bring drinks on with us so we walked into the closes place and asked for two Irish coffees to go (it was rainy and cold and the morning ). They were totally puzzled with this traumas didn't even have to go cups!! Hot coffee in plastic cups?! A fairly reasonable place to stop and eat. The place is seat-yourself and had a pleasant ambiance outside. Our waitress was attentive and food came out in about 30 minutes so we weren't waiting too long. The food itself was solid and tasty, if not spectacular. I enjoyed my bacon cheeseburger and it had a bit of a wasabi-esque sauce that gave it a kick. I think this is lower than 3 stars. But maybe I was just turned off by the price. It seemed high. But this strip is extremely touristy and I don't think there is any avoiding that. If I went back I would choose to only have a beer and save my meal for a better restaurant. That's my advice. But it's a good place to sit on the street and they also have a little quiet passage/garden for a more intimate dinner. But be AWARE they will charge a 25% fee if you use your credit card. Insanity. First off...for anyone complaining about the high prices of food in Copenhagen, this must have been their first place at a sit down server place bc we had been here a couple days already and found this place to be as reasonably priced as any other place here. And esp in a more touristy location like at the end of Nyhavn and in front of a canal tour. I thought it was actually quite fair (for Copenhagen). After a very cold ride off the canal we ducked in for some warmth and found the servers to be quite friendly and attentive (for those complaining about long waits and slow service, have u been to Europe before???) My son and I both ordered the lunch steak and tho the steaks were thin it was a good cut (I'm thinking thin ribeye) and cooked just to our own right temp. The side salad was small but had good flavor. Chips were really tasty. It was the perfect sized portions for us but we are of the smaller US variety ;-) All in all a very good lunch, friendly service and reasonably priced for Copenhagen high tourist zone. read more

Great place to stop for Irish Coffee on your way back to the hotel. Bartenders are great. Bar has a really speakeasy feel to it.

Very good seafood and reasonable prices for a tourist trap location. I could not resist the ambience of Nylan canal and outdoor seating. There was even a band playing on the square for additional entertainment. The seafood was excellent. I had boulabaise which had chuncks of fish including salmon and several mussels. We also had pan fried lemon sole which was excellent. It was cold out but they did have blankets for us and there were heaters under the tent. Not sure about the 25% added fee for credit card but the total bill was about $120 which included 3 meals and a bottle of wine, not bad. read more

Don't eat here! I sat down with my family and asked for tap water to drink. "I'm sorry, we don't have tap water." So we ordered our food, my daughter ordered an overpriced "cheeseburger with chili fries". She received a bacon cheeseburger with regular fries. When I asked why I was told you didn't sell tap water when the table behind me ordered tap water for their child, and was served tap water as well as given a bread basket, I was told that it was because their son was very little and that it was illegal for them to sell tap water. Also, apparently fries with chili are fries with chili powder on them. ?? I call BS. I feel taken advantage of and lied to because I am from America. read more
