Fun pub to enjoy a traditional dinner in. I would highly recommend making a reservation since it's a very small pub. They serve traditional food so I got the catch of the day which was cooked in a butter caper sauce and hubby got the lamb which was very good but fattier than what we were used to. It's a one man show so he takes your order, busses your table, makes your drinks and brings out your food. He's good but don't be afraid to flag him down if you need something. Super chill ambiance. Seeing good ratings for this place, my wife and I popped in on a Thursday night around 630pm to snag the last open table. With the handful of outside tables taken, we were shuffled inside by the bar to a two topper. The table wobbled badly but then my wife saw a plastic window shim nearby on the floor to level it up. Problem solved. Inside, there is a great deal of history on the walls including numerous original works of art that are rumored to have been payment for meals from starving artists. The sound level inside is loud due to the compact space but not an issue for us. From their extensive menu, my wife selected a sirloin with fried potatoes, green beans and a brown gravy. I went with a brown gravy as well but with roast pork and red cabbage. To wash it all down, we got a half bottle of red wine from South Africa. My wife's steak was prepared medium rare (cook's decision) but to her liking. The green beans were well prepared while there was just too many of the square cut potatoes for her to have any hope of finishing. My roast pork was yummy and once smothered in the brown gravy reminded me more of turkey. All I needed was dressing instead of cabbage. Not a fan of the latter, I did enjoy it but also was unable to eat it all. Their portions are quite generous. I would have liked a piece of bread with the meal but other than that quite tasty and satisfying. We chatted up a single diner next to us after we were done eating who was a regular from the 60s! He interestingly enough was the only person served his/her meal on a placemat. I can see why he's so loyal as our meal was quite good along with the service. read more

Fun atmosphere and interesting, colorful decor. Food: extremely limited selection, very "meh" flavors, nothing at all memorable or out of the ordinary. Both things we ordered (fish and roast pork) were just OK. Service can be hit-or-miss, but everything did take a long time. People at the table next to us got tired of waiting for someone to take their order and just left. We were not in a hurry so stuck around, but didn't feel the food or the history of the place were worth it. We had MUCH better food in Copenhagen, and were sorry that we ate here. One of the best places we ate in Copenhagen. We got the fish, the chicken tarts and the beef with potatoes. Everything was outstanding. A great place to go for authentic Danish food from a restaurant that's been around since the 1800s. There was also a live pianist who was great. It was time to finally have some authentic to semi-authentic Danish food. Skindbuksen has been here since 1728 and it looks like a pub. It's rather quaint and smells rustic and looks great. Our server brought us menus and each of snagged a dish. I opted for the "Danish Burger" - they've simplified it for us non-Danish speaking folks, so I don't know what it's actually called in Danish. It's basically an open faced burger, with grilled onions and a nice fried egg over it - yes, it's of the runny kind (yolk porn, yo!). The sides consisted of boiled potatoes, beets, and a tomato wedge. There's not a lot it but the flavors and freshness of the ingredients are all there. The meal was fantastic. I washed it down with a glass of Belgian Ale (on tap) and that was terrific. Give yourselves some extra time, because each of us ordered an individual dish and it probably took 20-30 minutes for everything to come out. The dishes were piping hot, too, but this is definitely not fast food. The only gripe I would have would be that of service. Our server was lovely, sat us down, took our order and never came back until it was time for the check. Even when the dishes came out - it was a different server that gave them to us. That was quite odd. I could have gone for another drink but since she never came back to ask if I wanted a refill I didn't have one. This is why I love being in a country where you don't have to tip. 1-star gets knocked down for not-so-great service. read more

For the last dinner with my parents in Copenhagen, we picked this place and oh boy! We enjoyed it so very much! My mom asked me to take photos of the meal and to leave 5-star review and I couldn't agree more with her. We had the deluxe plate and a veal liver, it was awesome. Was in Copenhagen for a few days in business - asked the hotel for a few recommendations and they suggested the area around this restaurant and a few "trendy" restaurants - I looked at their suggestions and they did look trendy but I want something with more character. I stumbled into this restaurant by accident. Walked down the stairs as the restaurant is in the 1/2 basement and entered in to the year 1757! No tourists ! Great ! A relatively small place with a guy playing on the piano. Was greeted by the friendly barman and sat down at a nice little table facing the bar. Everyone speaking Danish around me - paintings on the walls and hanging on the ceilings .. Started with a pint of local beer (of course!) then asked for a recommendation - he recommended a typical Danish dish with porc, potatoes and cabbage - how can you go wrong ! It was delicious ! We found Skindbuksen through the Yelp app, in search of traditional Danish cuisine. The staff there was so lovely and the service was prompt. We ordered fish and a stew (which was recommended to me), skipping starters as we heard the portions are plentyful. And they were. The best part however was the atmosphere. There was a guy playing piano and the locals who dined there joined in signing what in German would be called 'Schlagermusik'. Everyone was just happy and relaxed. Last day in town and we wanted to go for a good traditional meal. It was raining and cold so warm and hearty dish sounded perfect. Ordered schnitzel, pork roast and open sandwich with liver. It was a bit heavy but totally worth it. Pork roast was on dry side but had a nice crunchy skin. Yum..Me and our 1 year old could hardly let it go... As we are walking through Copenhagen, we happened upon this restaurant/bar. It's a small cozy place it looks like it has lots of history. We were warmly welcomed by the bartender and seated. The menu was full of traditional Danish food. The bartender made great suggestions and we chose a combination platter to try everything. My mother was from Bornholm, Denmark. When the bartender found this out he had the bar sing us the traditional song from that area. When we received our food it was made to perfection. Pretty amazing for such a small pub type bar. However, it is really a gourmet restaurant. The food was excellent to say the least. My wife's pan fried cod included chopped up potatoes, capers, and hazelnuts, all in a brown butter sauce. My weinerschnitzel came with peas, roasted potatoes, and capers, also in a brown butter sauce. Both entrees were prepared perfectly. Our server, Emily, speaks three languages fluently, was very friendly, and provided great service.
