Last week, my wife and I visited the newest grocery store in Carlsbad Village: the Barons Market. I had heard great things about the Barons Market from my friends in Temecula. So, my wife and I decided to check it out. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shemirani, the owners of the Baron's Market, were present there, greeting the customers. Mr. Shemirani guided us to some sections of the market we were interested in and made some good suggestions. We found him to be a personable, friendly and helpful gentleman. We ended up purchasing a few items like sweets (baklava and brownies), some fruit, a barbecued chicken, a large cup of freshly made New England clam chowder soup, etc. Everything turned out to be very fresh and tasty. The individually sold Baklavas were excellent. We particularly enjoyed the clam chowder soup. It was better than any chowder I had had in a restaurant. The barbecued chicken was excellent too; so was its price. Anyway, I would highly recommend this market to my friends and neighbors. I personally plan to shop there often. read more

Not open early enough for this to be a regular spot for me on a morning walk through the village. They need to think about opening at 6 or 7 am. 8 is too late. In spite of this, I'm glad we have this grocery option in village, especially in light of Smart & Final closing. Barrons has a Whole Foods/Gelsons/lazy acres vibe with a good selection of natural/higher-end grocery items. Seems like a Great place for picnic supplies, or a charcuterie board. No Deli, but nice olive bar & hot food selection. (I'm not sad as I'll keep going to Prontos next door for fresh sliced deli meats & salads & made-to-order sandwiches) Overall happy it's open, but I am going to have to train myself to come here. I also can't say exactly what will drawing me back to Barrons other it being a place to easily hit on foot. Once I hop in the car, Vons hours and selection will still win. read more

My thoughts on this cute little market is that it's just 'ok'. In my opinion, it's fresh, and new, and looks nice, however, it seems to be just another trendy small market that will appeal to the niche coffee house crowd. If you want to do some real shopping, go elsewhere. If you want a few specialty Olive Oils or balsamic vinegar, you could visit the already established Humble Olive Oil on State Street, or give this Baron's a go. Going here truly makes me miss Smart & Final that just closed up the street.... in reference to their produce quality, selection and prices. I know Baron's isn't a 'general' grocery store, it's a specialty, which works great for a lot of people. The produce is nice and the apples are waxed to perfection, but the prices are just too high for what you get. ($2.99 for a very small amt of green leaf lettuce). They do have nice self-serve food bars in the back, and a great selection, but at $12 per pound, it's just too much. Once you see where your self-serve weighs in at, you'll understand. One big positive is that you'll be hard pressed to find a better beer selection. It's amazing! Is that enough to justify looking around for that one open parking spot? Not for me. Again... all just my humble opinion. read more

Lovely grocery store that recently opened in Carlsbad Village in a busy shopping center. Beautiful floral dept, yummy looking baked goods especially the muffins. Nice salad bar and olives.... Extensive cheese selection & nice to see a loaf of marbled rye bread which isn't easy to find! Large frozen pizza section. Grabbed a Margherita pizza and it was good. Prices are a bit high for some things. Tidy & well organized Plenty of employees stocking & servicing their depts. Fun spot to browse read more

Very lovely up in here!!!! The employees were all very nice and you can tell they care about the community and the employees were so welcoming. I had to come here for their artisan olive oil and balsamic vinegar bar. It did not disappoint! I got some great fig balsamic vinegar and you gotta get the bread they have that goes with it. They also have a juice station I forgot to visit but I think it's only for orange juice. Not 100% sure on that but my friend said it's super easy to use. It's a lil cramped in there but nothing to be over dramatic about. It's like a better Trader's lol. Funny cus they finally have a Trader themselves now. I wish it was bigger but I love this lil cute grocery store for Carlsbad. It's not cheap and it is like Whole food prices but I came in here for some goodies and I found plenty! Thanks for coming to Carlsbad y'all. They also have a juice spot towards the back by the self serve food. I am not a fan of apple juice, grape juice, and their apple juice is amazing! Barons Market is fairly new to Carlsbad. I noticed it today while walking toward the village. It's on Roosevelt street. I went in to check it out. It has an outdoor seating area . The store is very similar to Whole Foods . It's clean , staff are polite and courteous and prices are decent. It has an Olive bar, Salad bar, hot food bar and soup bar . read more

Great location - a perfect fit for Carlsbad Village! Friendly staff, great salad bar, olive bar, amazing fruit selection! The olive oil & vinegar station/sampling area was so fun! If you are in the Village and need a quick item, they win for convenience. If I want to go food shopping, nope. As others mentioned, it gives a Whole Foods vibe, but it's not the Whole Foods experience. There are not the same unique cheese, a meat counter, the variety of products. The prepared food, well, it is priced as high as I could pick up at a restaurant, but not the taste. If I need a quick snack/meal/and especially a baked item, I will go to their neighbor Prontos. I can say that Baron's has a good fresh baked bread selection. After wandering around the store, I went to checkout. The high school/college age girl working there has a "I don't want to be here" look on her face. As she rang up my items, I started to bag. When I paused bagging to find my credit card and pay, she just stood there and stared at me. I paid and then I resumed bagging my groceries, with zero offer to help. At a store like this, bagging should be offered. I am sad that this beautiful looking store doesn't deliver in enjoyment. read more

Finally a local store with a decent salad bar. Very impressed with not one, but two full length salad bars and a hot bar. I hope they keep it stocked and fresh. Gelson's had a good one for a while and then they really let it slip. Baron's seems to have better prices too. A nice addition to the Village! read more

We stopped by Baron's Carlsbad on day two of their opening week, and all I can say is--wow! What an incredible addition to our community. The selection is outstanding, with so many unique and high-quality products throughout the store. We were especially impressed by the self-serve food bar. The hot food looked amazing, the olive bar was incredible, and the fresh salad bar had so many delicious options. You can tell a lot of thought went into creating a true shopping experience that's both fun and convenient. The store is beautiful, well organized, and the employees were very friendly, helpful, and excited to welcome customers. Thank you, Barons, for investing in Carlsbad, we needed you to be here in our community so badly! We can't wait to come back and make this one of our regular stops. It's everything you're looking for a local market. Super convenient since I'm so close. For me I buy lettuce and cilantro daily for my bunny, and meats and vegetables. Occasionally I'll run out of paper towels to I'll buy some here and other needed goods. But don't expect to come here and it be as stocked as Smart & Final, Walmart, or Target with useless items and miscellaneous products. It has beer, juices, snacks, but not a huge selection. There's a lot of pre-made ready to eat items, soups, rotisserie chickens, and a salad bar. I personally like how small and "healthy" it is, if it doesn't work for you then it wasn't meant for you simple as that. The only downside I can think of is how small the parking spots are. read more

What the heck? We were excited about this store. It seemed just what the village needed. It was going to be the only luxury market in the area. We went in and came out with nothing. Why is this place so different from every other Baron's? It's not a full service market. They have NO deli counter, no fish or meat counter like other Baron's, not even premade sandwiches or sushi. Even a bodega can make you a sandwich! No real service. They have shrink wrapped meat and fish, but at those prices, you want it cut to order and to know when it came in. You want service. They have a cold case--full of bread and tortillas? Why? A small produce section. Every kind of soda known to man. Every frozen pizza available. Wasted space. The beer selection is great and huge, but it's also redundant. An average salad bar and an olive bar and a few hot dishes like Mac and cheese and bbq chicken, but not really a good enough market to prepare a meal at home, OR take to the beach or to barbecue. It's all snacks and sides. Also, they use an insane amount of packaging, like single brownies in plastic shells. So, we got on the freeway and went up two exits to Frazier Farms, where we got fresh made sushi for the beach, ahi tuna from the fish counter and pollo asada from the meat counter to grill at home tonight, fresh bread, fruit, veg and desserts, for cheaper. They have everything Baron's has and more. Baron's Carlsbad should take a page from Frazier Farms or Seaside Market in Cardiff if they want to do the luxury market thing. Hell, Whole Foods has a sandwich counter and sushi in addition to meat and fish counters but it's further away. You can get away without a butcher or fishmonger if you are catering to tourists or picnickers, but you need a deli counter like Bi Right Market in SF. Baron's has picnic tables out front, for the salad bar, I guess? The truth is, even if I wanted to make a cheese board, or serve antipasti from the olive bar, Trader's Joe's is CHEAPER for all of that. So unless you really want it come from a premium store, it's way overpriced. I don't see what this store is trying to be? A high end liquor store? The parking lot was nearly empty on a Sunday, and people were checking out the meat and fish and walking away! You can get fish cut at Albertson's or Von's after all. Again, we left empty handed and spent over a hundred dollars elsewhere. One star because we could not find what we needed. read more

Barons Market - olive bar - Grocery Near Me - Carlsbad, California

Shoppers should pay close attention to the price being charged for each item you purchase at Barons Market in Carlsbad. This Monday morning, and on my previous two visits, I was incorrectly charged for different types of produce because the checker could not read the label correctly or assumed my peach, today, was a nectarine. This is unacceptable as consumers are being treated to increasing prices for all consumer goods and food items are not optional. Barons cannot excuse this poor employee behavior by saying they have not been open for very long as their employees should be well trained before they open the to the public. Also, as a retired Chef I am very disappointed with the lack of quality of most produce being offered for sale. As an example, the celery in the cooler this morning was a very pale green and should not have been offered for sale. Buyer beware and show your displeasure by not shopping or by buying fewer items at your favorite store. Also, when I asked about being charged for a nectarine instead of the peach I was purchasing, the young lady that was checking out my order was very condescending when she said that the next time I was in the store that she would ask me if it was a peach or a nectarine. This is an example of extremely poor and rude behavior in dealing with customers. read more
