I visited this amazing coffee spot twice while on vacation in Endenada. I bent over backward to avoid going to Starf*c*S, and I'm glad I did. I hate the cliche term everyone uses now, "hidden gem," but this place is a bit hidden and a pleasant surprise. It's got a nice, rustic, modern feel. It's super busy with a team behind the counter. Both times I ordered the maple and salt latte, with whole milk. The flavor was unique and different. Good stuff. The young lady behind the counter was super pleasant to talk to. I didn't catch her name, but then I never do. She mentioned she has spent time in LA and helped me figure out which whole-bean coffee to buy for espresso. I wish I had let her fine-grind the beans for me. My coffee grinder nearly caught on fire trying to get it fine enough. Anyway, blah blah blah. The place is great. If you're there, get it. read more

Updating because I seem not to have written that I returned twice to Ensenada since my original review. And when I say twice, that's at least 2-4 times to Barra D' Cafe each visit to Ensenada. Pour over in the morning and sometimes also pour over or latte in the afternoon. I don't normally drink so much coffee, but...get the good stuff while I can. I've tried everything on their coffee and food menu. It has never disappointed. Still one of my top 3 favorite pour overs anywhere (that's including Tokyo), for every reason...flavor, value, vibe, and staff. They've recently shared some sad news about the loss of a (staff member?). With everyone being so wonderful there, it really is a tragedy. My heart goes out to them. read more

There's bench style seating on the inside or abundant seating outside in the shared grounds. it was the late afternoon, so I expressed my desire for just one shot of espresso. Jess recommended a classic cappuccino or an iced latte. Given that it was a warm-wish day, I opted for the latter. You have your choice of non-dairy milks if you so desire. I went in on oat milk. Then with flavor here's where things get really interesting - they have a white sage option! Very unique, with distinct notes of smoke and an overall earthiness. Absolutely delicious and memorable. Every place I go I search for the best matcha. At this place it's already sweetened and tasted very good. They serve them in 8 and 12 oz. I would definitely come here again for their matcha. I come to Ensenada two or three times a year for events and I almost always end up stopping for a latte at Barra D'Cafe. This café has the traditional coffee, teas and espresso drinks. I almost always get a latte or a cappuccino. The pastries and baked goods are great as well. I recommend the chocolate chip cookies. This complex also features other businesses as well. There is a mezcal tasting room, a restaurant on the top floor and of course Santo Tomas is nearby. The bathrooms are toward the back of the building. If you're in Ensenada and want a caffeine charge I recommend you try Barra D'Cafe. read more

I always enjoy and appreciate hip/creative establishments in areas where they may be few and far between. This is one of them, you can tell that the owner has a passion for high quality coffee experiences. I ordered the maple y sol latte with an extra shot of espresso which was VERY flavorful and delicious. My husband ordered a regular latte, and although he enjoyed it, he was very jealous of mine. We chatted with the baristas and she showed us some tips and tricks on how to decorate with the steamed milk. The coffee shop was on the smaller side, but it had an adjacent room for more seating. The staff are friendly and helpful and one of them spoke English which made it easier for our group to order. The coffee bar is pretty small, but there are two separate rooms where you can hang out and enjoy your coffee. I was incredibly fortunate to stumble upon Barra de Cafe last week. Ensenada offers many culinary delights, but I didn't expect to find a coffee shop here that offers single-origin beans and roasts them on site! I know next to nothing about beans originating from Mexico, and Alonso explained the various origins of the beans and what flavor notes to expect from them, and how their roasting technique highlights the sweetness of the beans. As I watched him make my pourover coffee and listened to him talk about the process, I couldn't help but notice how passionate he, and the team behind the bar, was about the entire bean to cup experience. I was there for over an hour, enjoying coffee, a fantastic little salty cookie, and great conversation. By the way, there's no pretension here.
