Within the first week, we were greeted by name when we walked in. We sampled a variety of classes with different instructors, in both the regular studio and the hot studio. We focused on the beginner level and hot stretch classes. The offerings are diverse and impressive. Every instructor is excellent. Modifications are always provided for those that need them. We got our money's worth out of the one-month trial, attending 3-5 times per week. After our trial period, we decided to purchase the 8 sessions per month membership, due to our busy summer schedule. The memberships are month-to-month (no contract) and can be changed or cancelled at any time, so this flexibility is welcomed. I can definitely see us moving to an unlimited membership during the winter months when our calendar slows down. Since making a concerted effort to add yoga to our fitness regimen, we have noticed significant improvement in flexibility and mobility for our recreational activities that include softball and golf. I can usually tell within my first 10 minutes of a first lesson on whether the teacher/student relationship is going to work out. I've been fortunate enough to have been taught by some awesome instructors in most major cities I've traveled to over the past five years. I've also had my share of crappy ones as well. Thus, I'm VERY particular with who I choose as my instructor. Being a future physical therapist who suffers from plenty of joint pain (and multiple operations), one of of my criteria in choosing a studio/instructor is whether I'd feel comfortable enough to send a patient there without the risk of the instructor injuring/killing them. I've definitely found a winner with Dawn at ESP. She's a wonderful instructor who actually listens to her clients. She's great at cueing students on what the particular exercise entails. Despite being classically trained, she's open to mixing things up a bit to keep me challenged and interested. I've taken lessons in the past by the annoying "classical purists/snobs" who refuse to change their routine - constantly name dropping and stating that "Joe" (as in Joe Pilates) did it a certain way and that's the ONLY right way. I guess they would be correct if we were still in the 19th century, but anatomy, orthopedics and biomechanics have evolved since then. Back on topic of Dawn, I have yet to take one of her classes, but plan on doing so soon. I know that she'll be equally as great teaching a group as she does a private lesson. The studio does offer group lessons at an affordable price, at least in comparison to studios in LA or NY. The variety includes reformed, tower, mat, jump board, and barre classes, and I believe classes are taught everyday. Classes run from around $15 to $25, and privates are $60/55 minute session. Packages are available, which can bring the prices down quite a bit. And for all you newbies to the studio, they offer fantastic introductory packages. I purchased an introductory three-pack for $160. In any case, East Side Pilates gets my seal of approval. I'm already looking forward to returning for my next lesson.....a very good sign that I found a winner indeed! Tip (an addendum): If you're a complete newbie or have an orthopedic/neurological condition, I HIGHLY recommend talking to Ann (the owner - who's awesome with coordinating lessons and communicating) and setting up a few privates prior to taking classes. Some of the moves can put your body into compromising positions with certain conditions, so it's better to err on the cautious side!

I was among roughly 20 others who all let our stress, and as a master percussionist filled the room with sounds that washed over us. Whether you know yoga well or are a beginner, this studio is beautifully set up. It has classes for all levels, and the website states: Choose a class, Pay for the class ($25 is the current price), sign the release form online, bring a mat, and show up. Diane is kind and accommodating. She is quick to respond. I am hoping to take this special class again, but in the meantime, I am also happy to encourage everyone to step inside and find your peace. This review is specifically for Tamar, whose class I took today. Overall a disappointing experience. The class was advertised as "mixed level" so I brought my mom, who is a beginner. Tamar offered several one or two modifications, but aside from that the class was anything but mixed level. My mom was discouraged and pretty disoriented. The instructor's cues were confusing and she didn't articulate any anatomical alignment points. No adjustments, and a pretty listless sequence, with the instructor forgetting the entire hip sequence on the left side. I understand these things can happen to anyone, and perhaps the instructor just had a bad day. But what I found most disappointing is the apathy toward her beginner student. She didn't follow up with my mom after class, nor did she ask her a single question, although it was pretty apparent my mom had struggled the entire time and left a bit disenchanted. As a yoga instructor myself, I would never leave a student unattended in this manner. I do have to say that the other instructors at this studio presented a much higher level, however, and I will continue to explore and encourage my mom to return to see others as well.

I've also had classes w/the owner and they were quite challenging and inspiring. This was an incredible experience and I felt safe the entire time. It's a bit of a workout but remember to use your legs. I started out nervous and quickly grew my confidence as we learned 4-5 poses and foot locks. By the end, the instructor recorded each of us to capture what we learned. I felt beautiful, feminine, and confident. There was such joy seeing the end result after just one hour of class. I hoped there were more time options to further my practice and make this a hobby but they have limited time and space. Maybe one day!
