The classes are challenging and vary from cardio to strength conditioning, focusing on different body parts for specific lengths of time (arms, core, thigh), giving you the full body workout. There is a parking lot that I could see getting filled up at crowded times but I had no issues. The layout of the studio is a little strange at an angle an the sun beams on the one corner, but I love the floor to ceiling windows. During COVID, they have sold some equipment for at home workouts. I was able to purchase the sliding discs and the squishy ball and both have kepy up really well! read more

I've been coming to this studio since 2019 (with a break for COVID where I took advantage of their online streaming classes and outdoor classes). The staff, instructors and community here are so welcoming. And the classes are great. I really feel a difference after getting into a groove with regular classes. They have expanded their class offerings to include more strength and cardio focuses. My favorite is the full body workout of the Signature classes. barre3 classroom experience during opening week was a good one! It's definitely a strenuous workout, no question. barre3 is a studio barre program with 1 hour classes in which you use a floor mat, rubber ball, ballet barre, and light hand weights (all equipment provided). with an instructor and music playing. If you are familiar with any type of group aerobic classes and/or yoga, you'll recognize some movements in these classes. The classes combine aerobic exercise (squat tap from side to side, tap and reach) with strength training ("hold and pulse"). It may sound easy to hold a lunge and then go up and down 1 inch...but you feel the burn! Reservation policy: sign up online for a class, and if classes are full, you can be waitlisted and show up and hope there is room. Facility description: Parking is with public lot and street parking. The parking lot is tight: this lot was often full before this studio opened, so don't be surprised if there are no lot spaces. Unlocked to hold your personal belongings 1 changing room, 1 unisex restroom. Small handtowels are available to all. Water cooler One small downside is that the area for your personal belongings is part of the small lobby. So, I'm not usually into new fangled workout regimes, as they usually fall by the wayside, but Barre feels like the real deal, and I am so glad Barre3 was the company to introduce it to me! The space is small, but beautiful and ridiculously well maintained. Classes are a serious challenge and I leave feeling sore and as though new muscles were created, but the burn is sweet too. What I really like is instructors are very hands on, and give modifications if your body can't handle particular moves. The staff is warm and inviting. Each class I've attended, if the instructor hasn't met me, they've gone out of their way to introduce themselves and make me feel welcome. I flipping. LOVE. this place. When I first moved back to Madison, one of the hardest things for me to leave back in NY was my twice-a-week Barre class. My body had never been so fit--for the first time in my life, I had those coveted lower back dimples, and an ever-so-slight valley running the length of each thigh. My arms were long and lean, and my core was pretty rockin'. Leaving a fitness class with a teacher you trust infinitely is really hard! I am SO GLAD I was able to try Barre3 Madison out. I've heard not-so-great stories about Barre studios with teachers and students who are all current or ex-ballet dancers--skinny things with arms like Madonna circa Ray of Light, 1998--women with a prejudice against those of us who are more... well... corn-fed. lol Not so, here! The teachers are fantastic (I've been to two classes now, with Patti and Missy). There is no body shaming here. There's only support and a genuine interest in our wellbeing. Before class each time, I was asked if I had any problem areas that I might need to modify the moves for, and reassured that there would always be 1-3 modifications if I needed them (these were offered during each exercise without missing a beat, btw). Part of the reason this form of exercise is so effective is the mindfulness aspect--you're not just going through the motions. The instructor walks you through each movement, reminding you to feel every little constriction, stretch, etc. This makes a huge difference in results. Trust me. When I leave Barre, I feel stronger, more centered... even taller. I can feel muscles waking back up that I haven't used in awhile. My four pack's been in the cooler for a few years now, but I'm feeling alright about that. This place makes me want to come back every day and get back to the shining, strong body that I had. I'm extra excited to be able to try out the accompanying membership website that Barre3 has to offer. Whole food recipes, daily workouts for those on-the-go, and a community of encouragement--what's not to love? I'll never be skinny. But with a little help from Patti and Co., I'm well on my way back to being the strong, centered Amazon that's been hiding for too long. **NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL STUFF** Bathroom: It's a one-holer, but it's crazy clean and feels like a mini spa. Herbal deodorant, lotion, and dry shampoo are provided, as well as clean washcloths. Very nice. Changing: There's a changing room next to the cubbies in case you need it. Personal effects are stored in cubbies in the lobby, but don't worry--there's someone attending the desk all through class. Parking: Parking can suck a little, but they have an arrangement with Steinhauer Eye Clinic just up the street. Park here and walk--you're going to a fitness class, for heaven's sake--you don't need to be right next to the place. Just try this place out. Have fun. Enjoy all the little levers you'll feel whirring and churning in your body when you walk out of that class. I was lucky enough to get into one of the free classes the first week they opened and I'm so glad I did! The class itself is definitely a butt-kicker--I had to pause several times because I for sure felt my "barre3 shakes!" Their method is to increase your heart rate with cardio and target specific muscle groups with a one-inch movement. So imagine holding a squat and then pulsing up and down but just an inch. One thing I really appreciated was that as soon as you walk into the studio the instructor asks if you're new to class and if you have any previous injuries. You warm up with a lot of aerobic movement, and then immediately get to work. I really liked the leg work we did with the barre3 ball, like leg raises with the ball under you or clenching the ball between your knees when doing standing work to get a deeper workout. In the entrance there is a coat rack (key for WI winters) and cubbies to put your shoes and belonging. I am a student and brought a giant backpack and had no issues fitting it in the cubbies--which sometimes I do in the lockers at the UW rec centers. Barre3 also has an online component, but you really can't beat the in-class experience. All in all, I'm really happy that I went, and I'm really happy that it's conveniently less than a mile away from my office. If you haven't gone yet, I encourage you to check it out!! read more

Following a Yelp Elite Event, I attended 3 classes. I am super impressed with this place. The staff are extremely enthusiastic, supportive, and personable. They make a huge effort to learn your name and check-in with you when you arrive. There are quite a few instructors and I noticed each one approached me prior to class and asked if there were any limitations (I have several since I'm pregnant). They then monitor you throughout the class and if you're struggling, they will help you make modifications. What I love about barre3 is that it is the "right" kind of burn. In other words, I get a really good work-out, but my body doesn't feel wrecked the next day. Finally, their prices are pretty reasonable and there are quite a few options (e.g., 10-pack, 20-pack, and monthly membership). I would highly recommend barre3. I am kind of a cardio-junkie when it comes to my group fitness routine so I had been looking for a place to focus on strength training while maintaining the group fitness style. I truly enjoy the community feel of working out in a class format. barre3 definitely delivered exactly what I was looking for. The class will help you build strength through their three-step method (begin with a hold, pulse just an inch, then go large scale to flush out the muscles). You will find new muscle groups in your legs, core, arms, and booty! And don't fear the shakes and quakes, they are supposed to happen. All of the staff are welcoming and helpful. Every instructor offers modifications throughout the class. They also are sure to ask new students whether or not they have any prior injuries. Each instructor has a little different style so I encourage you to try classes with all the ladies of barre3. Show up early to make sure you can find parking whether in the lot or on the street. My experience here was the free community class they offer (once a week?) Parking here is very hard to find, and I got a parking ticket as a result. The instructor and check in person were friendly enough, but the class was very crowded and I feel like they could have limited the number of attendees to prevent that. I didn't feel very challenged by the work out, and the fact that they are all the way on the other side of town doesn't encourage me to come back. Too much inconsistency among the instructors! If you can get Olivia, you'll enjoy the class. Unfortunately Grace teaches at most of the times when I'm available, and I find her classes frustrating. I usually leave angry. Now I've stopped going. Grace lacks the mindfulness I learned is inherent to the Barre 3 vision. She shows a disregard for individual limitations and appropriate pacing. She skips over the essential steps of establishing a solid platform and isolating the correct muscle groups in a safe way. She impatiently accelerates from zero to sixty, skipping the more intermediate stages of each exercise to get to the most difficult, exhausting, and potentially injury-causing activities. Worst of all, she thinks it's motivating to yell at us. If I wanted a boot camp class, I would have gone to one. read more

If you're looking for a challenging, targeted (and FUN!!) workout, barre3 is your jam. This studio hosts super friendly staff and clients that are both genuinely excited to spend their time there. You can take every workout to a different level, and the instructors are there to challenge you, encourage and help you get deeper into the muscles you'd like the strengthen. I'm a little biased as I've been doing barre for years. I've tried just about every kind of barre out there and I always find myself the most comfortable at Barre3. The instructors are always friendly and non-judgmental. Barre3 in particular encourages everyone to "make it your own" so you can tailor the workout to however you feel that day. They don't threaten you if you take a break, and they want you to work hard and see progress, but not kill yourself. This studio in particular always offers great hands-on adjustments as well, much better than anywhere else I have been. I'm addicted! I've been barre-hopping between here and PureBarre for about 4 months, and I really prefer Barre3. The instructors are friendly and super helpful. They push you to your limit safely, I always leave feeling sore but without injury or pain that I shouldn't have. They also very much promote body-concsciousness, Olivia and Anne are best at this in my opinion, but all instructors do so. They explain the movements and help you to think about getting the most out of them, the results from this really show! The classes range from small to crowded, and people of all ages, sizes, and genders show up. It feels more diverse and welcoming than the Madison PureBarre atmosphere to me. My only complaints: the parking is a little tight- I've always been able to find a spot within a block, but some days it takes more effort than others; the merchandise is cute but super expensive, I would totally buy a tank or some yoga pants if I could afford them- but I understand the franchise sets the prices. Although I'm still working toward my ideal shape, I am noticeably more toned and have better posture after 1-4 sessions per week at Barre3. I will continue going here as long as I am in Madison! read more

I signed up for the "founding members" special, which made joining much more affordable than the other barre places in Madison. I really like this kind of intense but non-impact exercise and found that even after my first class I could feel the difference (tighter, stronger) throughout my body. I think that if you want to lose weight you would need to add some cardio to your exercise routine, but this is a real workout that will strengthen and lengthen those key muscles. I've taken several classes from two different instructors who were both personable and easy to follow. I do hope that the instructors start adding some more variation to what we do--oftentimes the class is the same each time, which can get a little boring / predictable. Also, keep mixing up that music. The facility is really nice. As others have noted, it is a little cramped in the entrance, especially with everyone getting their winter gear on / off. I had been hoping there would be shower, but there's only a small changing room--makes it so I can't take a class before work because I do get moderately sweaty. Also, it would be nice if there were some cubbies with locks. You can sign up for classes online, which is really easy. I haven't had trouble getting a class yet. Also, I should add that I feel comfortable in the class--people who attend are pretty mellow and nice and I don't feel like I'm being judged or anything (I've taken barre classes elsewhere that felt really clique-y). read more

As a first time barre student, and avid runner, I was a little skeptical as to whether I would actually enjoy my workout at barre3. Much to my surprise, my experience was absolutely wonderful. Not only is the studio extremely clean and welcoming, but the instructors are very personable and friendly! By the end of the workout, my legs felt like jelly, but I knew I would be coming back for another class. I loved how although everyone was doing the same exercises, the instructor did a great job at encouraging everyone to make it their own workout. I just completed my first three classes at Madison Barre 3 and absolutely love it! Excellent core workout with encouraging teaches and awesome music. More pilates than ballet. But don't be intimitated-- the teachers give lots of adjustments and you can work at your own pace. All ages and shapes.
