During class, they also dole out individual attention and take the time to be encouraging with a gentle nudge toward better form or a compliment. I enjoy the mix of barre, yoga and HIIT classes. Every instructor varies her class each time, so it's never the same workout twice. In a strange surreal year, Straightline has been amazing and a consistent source of inspiration.

I found them because I asked a friend who loves dance where the best place was for beginner level hip hop and then grabbed an unlimited membership during a deal. Best choice I've made for my health in 2019. Straightline is a great place to meet new friends, and I do exactly that almost every single time I attend a class. Every class I take is challenging but modifiable. The variety is great. Even though I came for hip hop, I love 305 Fitness (think cardio clubbing), yoga, piloxing (pilates and boxing!!!!!), pilates and barre, YOU NAME IT. The app to sign up the classes is super easy to navigate and gives you an option to add the appointment to your calendar when you sign up. Love that. The studio is also very active on social media and responds to any questions in a timely manner. I am here at least 3 times a week and tell anyone I can how great it is. Join their email list to be in the know for their events and special offerings - worth it even without a 'deal!' This community gives me something to look forward to throughout the day when normally in the winter I'd stay home, holed up in the dark. I'm not saying Straightline is curing my seasonal depression (hello Minnesota winter) but it certainly helps!! The two things that I'd change: the bathrooms are downstairs and there's nowhere to shower after a sweaty class. Literally the only two downfalls of this studio. If you're still reading this review, CHECK THEM OUT! I can't recommend Straightline Dance Fitness enough.

There is a strong sense of community community at Fly Freak - students and staff both are so accepting and encouraging. I love how everybody cheers when someone does a trick for the first time! I love chair dance (shout out to Kit!), aerial yoga (all the teachers for this are phenomenal) and Sling (my go to teachers are Clara, Christy and Hayley, but I've never had a instructor I didn't like!). I also love the workshops and special events - self defense classes, guardian and kiddo classes, sound baths and my personal favorite, photo shoots! If you're looking for a new obsession or even just want to try something different, you won't regret going to Fly Freak.

The instructors she had were really encouraging, which made a big difference for my soft-spoken kiddo. I noticed that on days she went to class, she slept better and her overall mood improved. Since a lot of sports and physical activities for kids tend to be competitive, which isn't really her thing, Fly Freak has been a great alternative. If you're looking for a way for your child to move around that also helps with regulation, I definitely recommend giving Fly Freak a try!

Barre fitness at it's core is a combination of yoga, pilates, and strength training that utilizes the ballet barre to assist with alignment as you sculpt and tone your entire body. An amazing workout that is accessible to people of all ability levels! I'm obsessed. Now on to the specifics that make Balanced Barre so special. It was recently opened last November by Tina, who has been teaching pilates for a long time and has wanted to have her own place for a very long time. Tina is one of the best fitness instructors I have ever had and that means a lot considering I have taken classes from upwards of 50 different instructors. The seriousness with which she approaches each class is so impressive, and she takes time to do adjustments on each student to make sure we are doing all of the postures right. Her taste in music is great and she does all of the reps along with us for the entire class, which is something you learn to deeply appreciate once you have either (a) taught a fitness class yourself or (b) taken class from an instructor that consistently sits there and guides, but doesn't actually do the moves. PLEASE do yourself a favor and try this style of movement and this particular studio. You'll be hooked - I promise!

The cardio class was defiantly harder but they both really push you. It was nice to go to a class that was different than the standard yoga or gym strength training. I shake every time so I know it is working. The atmosphere is great as well. All of the instructors keep the class upbeat and have great music pumping. The classes are never too crowded and there is no judgment. Scheduling is amazing with BB. Buying packages and signing up for classes is extremely convenient and easy. I've even been able to bring some friends and have them use some of my sessions. Overall I do think the classes are pretty affordable and the packages make it even more affordable. Give Balanced Barre a shot and you won't be upset! The only difficult part is getting to class on time. I can never make it to the 5:45 sessions so I stick to the weekends.

Now that I'm a member, I typically go to the Roseville location but I occasionally go to different studios depending on which classes I want to take and my schedule. All the studios are super clean and tidy. Sandy owns the YogaFit Roseville location and she is awesome! She is very welcoming and quickly helps out with any questions or issues that may come up. The Roseville location is typically less crowded than the Northeast and Loring Park locations (I've never been to the Linden Hills location) and also has a free parking lot right out front. There are basically six types of classes currently offered - Burn, Barre, HIIT, Flow 1, Flow 2 and Restore. Burn, Barre and HIIT are more cardio and strength training classes (utilizing weights, resistance bands, Pilates balls, etc) but with a yoga-based warm-up and cool-down. Some of the classes are heated and some are unheated which is indicated on the schedule. The Burn, Barre and HIIT classes are challenging and I always feel stronger after taking them and I see changes in my body if I consistently attend classes. Flow 1, Flow 2 and Restore are what you would expect from the average yoga class. All the instructors are very friendly, fun and have great taste in their music selections. The essential oils and wet lavender washcloths are a wonderful addition to the cool-down portion of some of the classes. Things to know for new members: -Free one week trial for non-members -Each studio has mats you can borrow in case you didn't bring your own -Each location is open 24/7 so members can stop by and get a workout in via a video during non-class hours -You can do a monthly membership, buy a package with a fixed number of classes or do drop-in classes. YogaFit occasionally offers specials for various types of seasonable memberships -No lockers available but cubbies and shoe racks are out front and your belongings are safe since the outside door locks when someone isn't at the front desk .. you can use your keycard to unlock the outside door too -YogaFit is an active within the community and instructors typically let the class know of events taking place within and outside of the studio I'm so glad I was introduced to YogaFit! I always look forward to taking classes here :)

Last week, they had iced tea for free in the little sit down area after class. Nice touch. They've been doing this for years I think. You really improve with flexibility with the heat, and that is great if you aren't hyper mobile, which I. am. not. (Thankfully!) MOV does a great job making sure everything is clean and there is no mold smell anywhere in the building, etc! I unfortunately will not join up again because it is too far from my home, and I wheeze and get a headache when around moldy smells from some men's mats or clothes (Sorry men, it is never women!... yet). Then they (some, not all men) cover the moldy smell with some good and smelly detergent or fabric softener, making me wheeze from the chemicals. Just so you know, I love men, but their system is less sensitive to mold, and well, then they don't know they smell (or they think they covered it up, dang less sensitive to mold men!). :( My last free class I had to move, and pissed off an angry yogi. C'est la vie, get over it, and I gotta do what I gotta do. I only slid my mat back to an open spot to get away from the smell, and breathe! Said thank you and sorry and got a dirty look. She had space to move from me as she wanted space on both sides of her, I guess. Hey, I got a free smoothie on my birthday too! Very generous of them! And Dave gave me a copy of his book! Thanks so much Mov and Dave! I hope you are around for a good long while. If my system gets stronger, I'll probably join sometime, at least for a month like January!
