Dear reader, Barrel House was such a fun time and very easy to enjoy. I stopped in for drinks and ended up loving the whole vibe. My espresso martini was excellent and easily one of the highlights of the night. The bartender was really friendly, which always makes a place stand out more, and the energy in there was good from start to finish. Then I realized the DJ was playing an all-Britney Spears mix, and that really sealed it for me. Excellent vibes all around. What I also liked is that Barrel House feels like more than just a basic bar stop. It has a warm, lively atmosphere, great service, and great drinks, and the DJs and other live entertainment make the whole place feel a little more special. It has a fun, stylish feel without being pretentious, which is a balance not every place manages to strike. Overall, this is the kind of spot that knows how to keep things interesting and make people want to stay for another round. I would gladly be back. read more

Came for a DC Gals event on a weeknight evening. The inside is beautiful and the service is fast and friendly. The fries were pretty good, but the empanadas are more crust than filling. Also of the 3 sodas we tried, all of them were flat and that was really disappointing. Sometimes you just need a crisp bubbly on a 90+ degree day lol and they didn't deliver on that front. I came for their brunch/cafe, and it was ok. Their brunch food menu is limited, and they get their pastries from another vendor. I got a honey oat matcha latte, and croque madame. The latte was decent, and the croque madame was also decent. It took awhile for the food to come out, and the staff were busy so I saw my food sitting on the counter for several minutes before she finally gave it to me. The location itself is great though. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and they often host events. When I came, they had local small businesses outside selling clothes, plants, and more. read more

The adventure here starts by walking through the classic barrel doorway that they salvaged from the old liquor store that occupied the space for so many years. A fun start. Once inside, I was blown away by the transformation. It's all art deco chic, greens and golds, and a disco ball above the door. If you sit inside, you order with a QR code, thank god. Way too many places have abandoned the codes, but it makes ordering and closing out such a breeze. Thank you, Barrel House! We just came for drinks, but they do offer food, so something to return for. If the weather permits, they have done an amazing job with an outdoor space in back, a separate outdoor covered patio, and the inside - so three separate spaces of fun. It's much bigger than you might think. We were just here for one round, but based on the limited experience, it was easily 5/5. My woodford old fashioned was top notch, and my wife had a grand marnier, a simple classic. Bonus points for the free ice water dispenser on the bar, with water swimming in citrus. I went back and forth about writing this, but here we are. We picked Barrel House for a parade day because we've been several times and genuinely love it. What we didn't know was that a company had bought out the event space that day. I get it, business is business. But it definitely affected those of us who just showed up as regular customers. We were pointed to porta potties instead of the actual restrooms inside. That one stung a little. Then there was the outdoor bar situation. The lady working it, Nadia, had an attitude that was completely uncalled for. No reason, no apology, nothing. She should have stayed home that day. Honestly, if she had just shown a little grace about it I probably wouldn't even be writing this. On the flip side, Cole was awesome. Friendly, attentive, just great energy. That's the Barrel House experience I know and that's what keeps us coming back. To top it off, part of our food got given to the wrong table and somehow we ended up being made to feel like it was our fault. And the wings?!?!? Not being served that day, which was actually one of the main reasons we came. Look, I really do think this was just an off day. We'll be back because this place has earned that from us. But I'd be doing them a disservice by not saying something. Hopefully management sees this and makes some adjustments. read more

Would not recommend the charcuterie plate as what I saw was pretty bleak. Their fries come with an assortment of sauces and they are really good. Be ready that their mustard is spicy. Service: Funny and helpful staff. One day we noticed there was no water pitcher and they were so fast at getting one out for us. They participate in the events and really helpful with anything that you might need. Ambiance: They have a number of different popups throughout the year based on what events are going on. A block from The Studio, this is a perfect pre-show brunch spot! We stopped into The Barrel House before a show and it absolutely set the tone for the day. The atmosphere was warm and lively and the timing was perfect for a relaxed brunch. Huge shoutout to Linda, who was incredibly friendly and helpful--she made us feel welcome right away and had great recommendations. This is absolutely ridiculous. It is 90 degrees and we cannot use the establishment's restrooms while actively spending money on beverages. Do not go here. Let me start by saying that I have never written a review in my life, but I felt compelled to comment on the soda situation at Barrel House. I've been there a handful of times and have always enjoyed sitting on their patio, which is a lovely space. Like most people, I enjoy a crisp, carbonated soda on a hot day, but I have been repeatedly disappointed by the soda served here. It is never carbonated. Ever. What arrives is essentially glorified syrup and water. Yesterday, I visited with a group of friends, and a staff member came over to let us know that our sodas would be slightly delayed because they were changing the carbonation in the machine. I thought, "Finally! Maybe today we'll get a drinkable soda." Unfortunately, I was wrong. The sodas arrived exactly as I feared: flat sugar water. I genuinely cannot believe this is being served to customers, especially after we were told the carbonation system was actively being replaced. In an economy where a single soda costs around $4, the beverage should at least be drinkable. Barrel House, please do better. Your patio deserves better, and so do your customers. read more
