Daily morning allergy meds year round with quarterly cytopoint shots. No food allergies but keep him on single protein diet with no garbage fillers. Daily probiotic to help his gut issues. Since Aug '20 he's been suffering with perianal fistulas (confirmed), common with Shepherds. It's been hell to deal with as there's no cure and meds are $400/month. He's miserable and losing weight but still eating. Vets are just not familiar with this disease and it's so hard to find a good honest vet these days. He has to be sedated anytime he goes in which I just hate but is necessary. Love these dogs but this disease is testing me to avoid the breed.

I was shocked when the vet called back within minutes and said that someone would meet me at the clinic and that although she was almost home, that she would turn around and go back. Both were so incredible in their compassion, attention to detail and all bodily systems that could be affected. All aspects were openly discussed at a level that I understood and respectful of my almost 30 years of people medicine (complete with education of the differences between people and dog pathophysiology). I've thought about it for several days because I don't like criticizing people, but the more I replay the appointment in my head, the more it honestly upsets me. We were discussing my dog's ear infection when, completely out of nowhere, the current veterinarian asked if I had broken my bulldog's tail. My dog's tail has been bent since he was a puppy--it's a congenital deformity that's fairly common in bulldogs. I honestly just sat there thinking, "Yeah... I accidentally stepped on it one day?" It was such a bizarre question that it completely caught me off guard. If you're trying to understand a medical issue, why not simply ask what happened to his tail instead? The whole interaction made me uncomfortable. I also couldn't help but notice she smiled through the entire conversation. Maybe that's just her personality, but I've honestly never met someone who smiled that much during a conversation like that. It made the whole appointment feel even more awkward. More than anything, the interaction made me lose confidence. It left me wondering what other conclusions might be jumped to in future appointments, and that isn't how I want to feel when someone is caring for my dogs. The veterinary assistants are still incredible. They are gentle, compassionate, and one of the main reasons we stayed with this clinic for so many years. We even drove nearly two hours when we lived in Minnesota because we trusted this clinic. My concerns are specifically with my experience with the current veterinarian. This isn't the first bad experience I had here. It's just the one that broke the tipping point.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this office. My dog Charlie has been having symptoms for about 6…read moremonths that, by my very novice googling, I could pretty clearly see had something to do with his adrenal glands and cortisol levels. I couldn't be farther from a vet, but I could figure that out. When we brought him in in March we were told he is "perfectly healthy" and our concerns were largely ignored. We brought him again in June and once again the care was minimal, they kind of put a bandaid on the situation. After he was progressively getting worse we, yet again, brought him here on Monday the 24th. He was then diagnosed with heart failure and we were told there was nothing we can do and he may only have a week to live. It was an odd turn of events given the prior history and it didn't sit right with me so I had enough and brought him to AERC in Oakdale (highly recommend, by the way.) As it turns out, he was completely misdiagnosed and he has end stage cancer of, you guessed it, the adrenal glands. Had this office have caught the cancer in March when we originally brought him, the new vet let me know that the adrenal glands are pretty easily removed so that may have been an option. Now, unfortunately, the cancer is spread too far. Our Charlie is only 12 and could have had a good 4-5 years left with us but due to negligence his life has been cut short. I know it can be expensive to bring your furry friends to the cities but if you can afford it, I've found you'll get MUCH better care. I know not everyone can and I 100% understand that as well, so no pressure. I guess all I'm saying is sadly, you get what you pay for, with veterinary care. I also understand that with his minimal symptoms in March many people would not have been eager to spend $700 on a radiology exam, but this office didn't even give us this option. They mislead us that he was perfectly healthy. I wish they had said, "hey, so his bloodwork is normal but given the symptoms related to his cortisol levels it's possible something else could be happening to his adrenal glands. We don't have to right testing tools here so if you want to take him to AERC you have that option." Instead, they kind of mislead us and assumed we wouldn't want to spend the money to do that. Shouldn't that be our call to make? If you want to keep costs relatively low, and you think the issues with your furry friend are minor, this place may be a good option. But if your gut is ever telling you it's something more serious, my recommendation is to go elsewhere where you'll be taken seriously and given all the options. I wish you and your pets lots of love and health!! Hopefully their prognosis will be better than our Charlie's.

I brought my best friend Yeti in, my beloved German Shepherd, to be checked because of a few concerns that came up quickly, never in a million years expecting to find out he had cancer throughout his body and a very short time to live. Needless to say, I was devastated. From that first appointment to 4 days later when I had to say goodbye to him, the loving support and comfort the entire staff showed both me and Yeti truly made a difference to us and it's something I will NEVER forget. I am switching my other animals to Spooner Veterinary Hospital as well. I wouldn't even think about bringing them anywhere else, now. If you love your animals as deeply as I do, you will want to bring them here for care. They are absolutely WONDERFUL!

We were on vacation when our Golden Retriever hurt her nail. It was bleeding and she was unable to…read morewalk on it. We called the vet nearest us in Danbury and they would not work us in to their schedule. We called Spooner and they told us to come and they would work us in. When we arrived we were greeted with friendly smiles. They put us in a room where our Golden could be examined by the vet and his assistant. They determined that they needed to take the whole nail put and said it would take about 45 minutes. It took exactly that. Everything went well and our Golden's urgent situation was resolved. We really appreciate the prompt and professional attention we received. We aren't a regular patient because we live in Illinois, but they reacted to our need for help and we are so grateful!!!
